Hi folks, Many of you are asking how to find George, so heres a clue, within the mag is a small cartoon yorkie, he is not large and mishapen or hidden in ads. just a simple very small cartoon. last month he was on page 49 so if you have the mag check it out. Last Issue found two new entrant’s Daniel Gee of SG Transport 10 points, Simones hairdressers in Alhaurin 8, Mr Bell, Grande 6. Avril, celebrations Fuengirola 4. so things are hotting up

If like me you left the UK because you were fed up of all the bull and political correctness there is one piece of advice for you before you decide who you vote for. It is a famous proverb. “it doesn’t matter who you vote for, the government alway’s gets in” Enjoy the May Issue, Join us on Facebook Kevin, Karen , Dan & Ben

With the season just starting many of you will be disappointed by the fact that the econmy is down, the recession is biting deep, it keeps raining like a monsoon and just when you think it can’t get worse a flipping volcano erupts causing chaos. To add insult to injury its election time so you have these grown men passing cynical comments to each other hoping to get your vote.

Reasons to Advertise: 1. Customers Forget We the customer forget without constant reminders. Each day a customer doesn't hear about your company is one more day they start hearing about your competitor. 2. Name Recognition When a customer thinks of a product whom do you want them to think of? It's pretty hard for them to immediately think of you if they don't see your name anywhere. 3. People often take their time when buying iI often use a laptop when I travel and the time is coming for a new one. So I'll be shopping for that. Am I going out to buy it tomorrow? Probably not. I'll start watching the ads studying the available brands and assembling the features I need. I may not make the purchase for several months but when I do I will probably have a dealer in mind and they will get a shot at my business. 4. Customers move Studies show that 25% of your customers will

move each year. 5. A portion of the market is always shopping. Did you notice the tyre ads in the paper today?

If you need tyres you did. If not you probably didn't give them a second glance. Not everyone is your customer every day. But each and every day there is a portion of the population that is looking for your product. And you need to be there when they are ready to start looking for that product

Recession Advertising: Companies willing to raise their voices and continue advertising their wares in a depressed economy “will not only consolidate their existing position but will likely achieve a degree of dominance when the marketplace makes its inevitable recovery”. While consumers may stop buying during a recession, it doesn’t mean they stop listening. But if you keep your cool and maintain your advertising presence, when your competitors withdraw their voices from the marketplace your voice will be heard all the louder. Player finds tooth stuck in head An Australian rugby league player competed for more than four months with an opponent's tooth buried in his head. Former NRL prop Ben Czislowski needed stitches above his left eye after clashing heads with a rival on 1 April. But Czislowski later suffered an eye infection and shooting pains until a doctor discovered the cause last week, reports the BBC. "I can laugh about it now but the doctor told me it could have been serious," said the 24-year-old, who now keeps the tooth on his bedside table. Czislowski, who was playing for Brisbane team Wynnum when he clashed heads with Matt Austin, said he was prepared to mail the tooth back to its rightful owner but was holding onto it until then as proof of his bizarre injury. Tweed Heads forward Austin lost several teeth in the incident and broke his jaw

Nappies for donkeys Donkey owners in a Kenyan town are up in arms after officials ordered their animals to wear nappies. The local council in Limuru said the measure was needed to keep the town's streets clean. But adverse press coverage and outrage from the town's residents has led the authority to put its plans on hold. "If we have to put nappies on our donkeys, soon they will say our cows need them too," one donkey owner said. Another donkey owner, Kimani Gathugu, says: "Donkeys are very important. Not many people have cars in the area and the donkeys serve as a mode of transport." And water trader Simon Kamau, who uses donkeys to transport water to his clients, added: "The problem is that the donkey can give you a fatal kick. I was once kicked by a donkey and it broke my leg. "What the council should do is come to us traders and show us how to tie the nappies on the donkeys." But Limuru's mayor, James Kuria, seems determined to push on with his plan. "I have heard that in some areas where they keep donkeys, they also have nappies," he said. "We will go to these areas and see how they do it and come back and show our people how to do it. We want the people to earn a living but at the same time we must keep our town clean."

Man claps as loud as helicopter din A Chinese man whose clapping hands are nearly as loud as the roar of a helicopter is hoping to get into the record books. Zhang Quan, 70, of Chongqing city, had his clapping monitored by local environmental protection officials, reports Chongqing Business News. His claps measured 107 decibels - only slightly lower than helicopter blades which measure 110 decibels. "When I am clapping, even my own ears feels painful, no mentioning of others. That's why I usually don't clap," says Zhang. Workers from the environmental protection bureau confirmed that technically Zhang could face arrest for noise pollution if he clapped too often.

The Fulani empire ruled the region from the beginning of the 19th century until the British annexed Lagos in 1851 and seized control of the rest of the region by 1886. It formally became the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria in 1914. Honouring those who improve the species.... by accidently removing themselves from it! Oh F##k 2009 .In the late fall and early winter months, snow-covered mountains become infested with hunters. One ambitious pair climbed high up a mountain in search of their quarry. The trail crossed a small glacier that had crusted over. The lead hunter had to stomp a foot-hold in the snow, one step at a time, in order to cross the glacier. Somewhere near the middle of the glacier, his next stomp hit not snow but a rock. The lead hunter lost his footing and fell. Down the crusty glacier he zipped, off the edge and out of sight. Unable to help, his companion watched him slide away. After a while, he shouted out, "Are you OK?" "Yes!" came the answer. Reasoning that it was a quick way off the glacier, the second hunter plopped down and accelerated down the ice, following his friend. There, just over the edge of the glacier, was his friend...holding onto the top of a tree that barely protruded from the snow. There were no other treetops nearby, nothing to grab, nothing but a hundred-foot drop onto the rocks below. As the second hunter shot past the first, he uttered his final epitaph: a single word, which we may not utter lest our mothers soap our mouths. (10 January 2009, Pennsylvania) An embarrassed and seriously injured 17-year-old initially claimed that an explosive had been planted in his backpack by persons unknown. However, police investigators soon extracted the truth from the feckless teen. He found an M-80 explosive at his grandmother's house, took it to his room to examine it, and began to repeatedly light and extinguish the fuse. During one of these cycles the fuse would not go out, so he jammed the red cardboard tube between his thighs and covered it with his hand to muffle the explosion. This plan was less successful than he had hoped. Commonly thought to be a quarter stick of dynamite, M80's (according to pyrouniverse.com) actually contain flash powder rather than TNT, and only 1/50 the amount--just under 3 grams. Used by the U.S. Military to simulate grenade explosions, M80's were outlawed in 1966 under the Child Protection Act. They are not safe enough to be detonated by the average man on the average street, let alone by the average 17-year-old. One loud KABOOM! later, our junior pyrotechnics specialist had lost his right hand, right leg, and--very likely--his right to reproduce, earning him a living Darwin Award.

the top of the cross on the church steeple, where he had to stand on the cross to keep him out of the water.

The Lord will save me During the winter floods a rescue boat was passing a church when at the last minute they noticed the vicar on the lower part of the roof. They hastily sped over to rescue him from the risk of certain death as the floodwaters rose. “Fear not “said the vicar to the crew “the lord will save me, leave me be,” reluctantly the crew left him. The waters rose higher so the vicar had to climb higher to the top of the roof when another boat spotted him and rushed to his aid. “You were lucky vicar, we nearly missed you its pure luck that we saw you”said the crew “Fear not” said the vicar, “have faith the lord will save me leave me be” So again the rescuers reluctantly left him behind. The waters rose higher and higher, so much so that the vicar had to climb onto

By chance a helicopter saw him and dropped a rescuer down to him. “I can’t believe your luck vicar we were blown off course and luckily we spotted you in the water”. Once again the vicar said ” thank you my son but there is no need the lord will save me, leave me be” It was too dangerous for the helicopter to hang around so they had to leave the vicar behind. As the floodwaters rose the vicar inevitably drowned. When he reached the gates of heaven and saw St Peter he angrily demanded to see God. “I have been a faithful servant in your name believing in you why? oh why? didn’t you save me” he asked. God replied “I sent two boats and a helicopter what more do you want...”

Go Go Go, Joseph (behind the scenes) It is a rare occasion for me to go to the theatre. Well OK, I have never gone before, although when in England Karen and I always talked about it, even when we arrived in Spain last year, family & friends suggested we go to see a show at the theatre in Fuengirola. “ OK” we said, just to fob them off really. Amateur shows can't be that good can they? I visited the theatre to see what auditions were coming up mainly to get something for our son Benjamin to perhaps take an interest in, to meet new friends, at 18 he needed that. So I decided to ask? The nice chaps in the theatre said. “oh yes just check the notice board there are auditions all the time, I looked, told them about Ben, gave them a copy of The magazine and left, no mention of Joseph at all. When I got home Karen told me excitedly “Ben's got an audition for a part of Joseph”. “ Fantastic, do you know the songs” I asked Ben? “ not at all” he replied. “When s the audition” I asked “ tonight” was the reply, “when the show ?”“in 6 weeks time” . We hastily found the songs on the internet so he could at least hear them before the audition and off we set to meet Peter Mitchell at the theatre. A nervous Ben had a go at it with this total stranger passing a critical eye over his performance, He said that he would like the musical director of the show to hear him to see what she thought, tomorrow night, Ben took the soundtrack with him to college learn a bit more before the second audition. That evening we met Sylvia Griffith s she listened to him and after some deliberation they offered Ben the part. When we sat there I was stunned, as were the others when Ben asked to think about it. What? I thought and hastily intervened, after a moment alone with us Ben agreed to take the part

I always knew that it took a lot of hard work for these shows but the dedication that they all put in is incredible we took him almost every night for rehearsals 2 weeks in he started coughing after another week it was obvious that it was more than a cold , we took him to the doctor, chronic bronchitis “ he must rest”, “he can't, he has rehearsals” “ well rest as much as he can” said the doctor. Two days before the show his throat swelled up , he could hardly swallow, back to the doctor, He has a yeast infection due to the antibiotics, Opening night, he had just about every soothing product available, we held hands in the audience just hoping he could get through not worrying how it would sound. He smashed it, they all did, a fantastic performance. The next morning he couldn't even speak the pain in his throat was excruciating, he wanted to pull out, we told him to wait and see if it improved during the day the medicine should help,no joy so we took him to the hospital for a second opinion. Chronic Tonsillitis was diagnosed, he must rest. We explained to the doctor about the play he gave him a steroid injection to help and more antibiotics but really rest was the best. We dropped him off, went home and prayed he would be OK , another standing ovation. Next day the injection wore off, Ben used pen & paper to talk, by Wednesday he was in agony but refused to pull out, we went to the show; standing ovation. It is hard to believe but he was only over the pain by the last night, word had spread about the show so we had to have a special reserved seats for the last night, people were turned away at the door, the theatre could have done another two nights with the requests for tickets

I have to thank the cast and direction team for putting on a fantastic show & to all those people who commented on Ben's performance most of you didn't know what goes on behind the scenes to produce a show worthy of the west end itself. Well done to all, I cant wait for the next show they are that good.

This Months Guest comedian Michael Mcintyre My wife and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. It gets harder every year to know what to say in the card. So this year I just wrote; “I still love you, see last years card for full details”

Designs of Asia, retailers and wholesalers of beautiful Indian and Indonesian furniture have been established on the Poligono Industrial la rosa for the past seven years.

I had a neck, shoulder and head massage in the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. She did my neck and shoulders but then stopped, so I ask; “ don't you do head?”. I didn't know they had a panic button

They have now set up CENTRO LA ROSA which is a retail centre comprising of rental retail spaces costing from as little as €9 per day including advertising. This has enabled many smaller retail businesses that are finding it a struggle in these economic times, to remain trading by cutting overheads.

My wife and I were trying for a baby for 15 months. At the end of every month she would say “Go to boots and get me a pregnancy test, I need to know either way”. The test is £13.99 and she would make me get it every month. I could have had broadband.

We advertise under one name, CENTRO LA ROSA, this makes it affordable to do more advertising, as it incorporates all the different retailers under one name. Our premises are based on the poligono La rosa in Alhaurin El Grande.

I bought my wife a beautiful diamond ring and even had it engraved – with the price. My wife said randomly one day that, just for fun, we could make a list of five people we would like to have sex with from outside of the marriage. Hers was predictable really. 1. George Clooney, 2. Brad Pitt. 3. Justin Timberlake. All the typical female choices. Mine simply read: 1. Your sister. Aaron is the worst name ever. Its the first name in the Baby Name Book. How lazy can your parents be? I was in Starbucks one afternoon and the person in front of me said “ Can I have a tall, skinny, black Americano please” I asked “ Are you ordering coffee or voting in the US elections?” Who's phoning radio stations to warn of traffic jams? Who in their right mind gets stuck and thinks “Get me the phone – I must warn the others. It's too late for me” “They had to ask spain I think, they’ve had to say to Spain, can you lend us some stuff for the roads, and it’s Gordon Brown phoning up going ‘pass the salt’ “I’ve got a little baby, I made him…He doesn’t speak, he’s 2…He’s a slow learner, he’s only got 2 words…car and map…I’m slightly worried he’s trying to escape. If his next word is passport we are in serious trouble!

Centro La ROSA started with an idea which evolved because of the present economic climate, high rentals, and high overheads with low returns. Jerry and Michelle who own Designs of Asia in Alhaurin El Grande felt that because their were so many other companies trying to keep afloat, it would be advantageous to all, if we got together under one shield of solidarity to help stave off the present economic climate If you are one of the many businesses who are finding it a struggle at the moment and would like to remain in business but cut your overheads, contact Jerry or Michelle on 653042683 or 654833356 at anytime’. Second time The latest addition is for bargain clothing. A large range of new and second hand clothing at fantastically low prices , a must for all in the current economic climate. call 666 846 159 for details

Jewellery/Fashion Corner by Ann French of WeDoBling.com It’s Feria season and what better time to delve into the origins of beautiful flamenco dresses. The flamenco dress dates back to the nineteenth century and work dresses worn by Andalucian women who accompanied the livestock traders who gathered at the Prado de San Sebastian, for Seville’s Feria de Abril from 1847 onwards. Over time the Feria de Ganado (a livestock fair) changed to simply become a Feria that was a celebration of those original outfits. Around 1929 there was an acceptance of flamenco as a professional art form and this consecrated the traditional Andalucian dress as de rigueur on stage. The materials became richer as did the adornments and complements:lacing, embroidered ribbons, flowers, costume jewellery, silk shawls and ladies fans. During the 20th century the dress varied according to fashion and economic situation. During the forties the dresses were long, frilled, straight and spotted, austere fabrics and hidden money pockets. In the fifties calico continued to be the main clothe enriched with stitched lace or belts. The dress was shortened so that footwear was visible. In the 60’s and 70’s it was shortened to halfway up the calf or to the knee. In the eighties the dress went through a baroque decade of lacing and satin ribbons. In the nineties it underwent a metamorphosis, shedding it’s embellishments and rigidity to become light, airy and sensual. The materials were silky smooth, plain colours and spotted. The dresses showed off women’s contours, drawing in the waist and flounces. During the last decade the style drew inspiration, once again, from the past. Poplin has been brought back, the dress divided into a two-piece outfit and the spots grew. This continuous reinvention, like everyday fashion, keeps everyone focused, looking for the next direction whether it be born at the sewing machine of a flamenco seamstress or in the chains of the better-known firms dedicated to tailoring this unique attire. In fact, the annual turnover in this sector is more than 120 million euros according to the Asociacion de Empresarios de la Moda Flamenca, a body which oversees the flamenco fashion industry.

The Octopus is this month amazing animal Octopuses are characterized by their eight arms, usually bearing suction cups. The arms of octopuses are often distinguished from the pair of feeding tentacles found in squid and cuttlefish. Both types of limbs are muscular hydrostats. Unlike most other cephalopods, the majority of octopuses – those in the suborder most commonly known, Incirrina – have almost entirely soft bodies with no internal skeleton. They have neither a protective outer shell like the nautilus, nor any vestige of an internal shell or bones, like cuttlefish or squid. A beak, similar in shape to a parrot's beak, is the only hard part of their body. This enables them to squeeze through very narrow slits between underwater rocks, which is very helpful when they are fleeing from predatory fish. Lifespan Octopuses have a relatively short life expectancy, some species live for as little as six months. Larger species, such as the North Pacific Giant Octopus, may live for up to five years under suitable circumstances. However, reproduction is a cause of death: males can only live for a few months after mating, and females die shortly after their eggs hatch. They neglect to eat during the (roughly) one month period spent taking care of their unhatched eggs, but they don't die of starvation. Endocrine secretions from the two optic glands are the cause of genetically-programmed death. Octopuses have three hearts. Two pump blood through each of the two gills, while the third pumps blood through the body. Octopus blood contains the copper-rich protein hemocyanin for transporting oxygen. Although less efficient under normal conditions than the iron-rich hemaglobin of vertebrates, in cold conditions with low oxygen pressure, hemocyanin oxygen transportation is more efficient than hemoglobin oxygen transportation. The hemocyanin is dissolved in the plasma instead of being carried within red blood cells and gives the blood a blue colour. Octopuses draw water into their mantle cavity where it passes through its gills. As molluscs, octopuses have gills that are finely divided and secularized outgrowths of either the outer or the iinner body surface Reproduction When octopuses reproduce, males use a specialized arm called a hectocotylus to insert spermatophores (packets of sperm) into the female's mantle cavity. The hectocotylus is usually the third right arm. Males die within a few months

of mating. In some species, the female octopus can keep the sperm alive inside her for weeks until her eggs are mature. After they have been fertilized, the female lays about 200,000 eggs she hangs these eggs in strings from the ceiling of her lair, or individually attaches them to the substrate depending on the species. The female cares for the eggs, guarding them against predators, and gently blowing currents of water over them so that they get enough oxygen. The female does not hunt during the roughly one-month period spent taking care of the unhatched eggs and may ingest some of her own arms for sustenance. At around the time the eggs hatch, the mother leaves the lair and is too weak to defend herself from predators like cod, often succumbing to their attacks. The young larval octopuses spend a period of time drifting in clouds of plankton, where they feed on copepods, larval crabs and larval starfish until they are ready to descend to the ocean bottom, where the cycle repeats. This is a dangerous time for the larval octopuses; in the plankton cloud they are vulnerable to plankton eaters. In some deeper dwelling species, the young do not go through this period Defence An octopus's main (primary) defence is to hide, either not to be seen at all, or not to be detected as an octopus. Octopuses have several secondary defences (defences they use once they have been seen by a predator). The most common secondary defence is fast escape. Other defences include the use of' an ink sac , and automising limbs. Most octopuses can eject a thick blackish ink in a large cloud to aid in escaping from predators. The main colouring agent of the ink is melanin, which is the same chemical that gives humans their hair and skin colour. This ink cloud is thought to reduce the efficiency of predators that employ smell for hunting, such as sharks. Ink clouds of some species might serve as pseudo morphs, or decoys that the predator attacks instead An octopus's camouflage is aided by certain specialized skin cells which can change the apparent colour, opacity, and reflectiveness of the epidermis. Octopuses can use muscles in the skin to change the texture of their mantle in order to achieve a greater camouflage. In some species the mantle can take on the spiky appearance of seaweed, or the scraggly, bumpy texture of a rock, among other disguises. However in some species skin anatomy is limited to relatively patternless shades of one colour, and limited skin texture

Male or Female? You might not have known this, but a lot of non-living objects are actually either male or female, here are some typical examples: FREEZER BAGS: They are male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them. PHOTOCOPIERS: These are female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again, they are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong Buttons. TYRES: Tyres are male, because they go bald easily and are often over inflated HOT AIR BALLOONS: Also a male object, because to get them to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under their butt.

SPONGES: These are female, because they are soft, squeezable and retain water. WEB PAGES: Female, because they're constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on. TRAINS: Definitely male, because they always use the same old lines for picking up people. EGG TIMERS: Egg timers are female because, over time, all the weight shifts to the bottom. HAMMERS: Male, because in the last 5000 years, they've hardly changed at all, and are occasionally handy to have around. THE REMOTE CONTROL: Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male, but consider this: It easily gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know which buttons to push, he just keeps trying

WOMEN Cigarettes & tampons A man walks into a pharmacy and wanders up & down the aisles. The sales girl notices him and asks him if she can help him. He answers that he is looking for a box of tampons for his wife. She directs him down the correct aisle. A few minutes later, he deposits a huge bag of cotton balls and a ball of string on the counter. She says, confused, 'Sir, I thought you were looking for some tampons for your wife? He answers, 'You see, it's like this, yesterday, I sent my wife to the store to get me a carton of cigarettes, and she came back with a tin of tobacco and some rolling papers; cause it's sooo-ooo-oo-ooo much cheaper. So, I figure if I have to roll my own .......... so does she. Wife v Husband A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, 'Relatives of yours?' 'Yeah,' the wife replied, 'in-laws.' Words A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day---30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife explained, 'The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men...'The husband turned to his wife and asked, 'What?'

Who does what A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, 'You should do it because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee. The husband said, 'You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee.' Wife replies, 'No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee.' Husband replies, 'I can't believe that, show me.' So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says .'HEBREWS' The Silent Treatment A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, 'Please wake me at 5:00 AM.' He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight Furious, he was about to go and ask why his wife hadn't wakened him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.' Men are not equipped for these kinds of contest.
