FROM THE DESK OF THE G.M. BY GIL COTE, GENERAL MANAGER

Hello Carrollwood Members! What a rollercoaster the last 2 month have been! We have gone from the possible acquisition by ClubCorp to one of the best Independence Day Celebration’s at Carrollwood to date. The fun mid-way, the food and of course the spectacular fireworks made for great show and a great time for our over 4,000 attendees. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff for a job well done! The Independence Day Celebration takes months of preparation and a lot of hard work, so please share your gratitude with our fantastic team. As we move into the hotter months of the summer, play on the course slows a bit. This gives Chuck and his team an opportunity to focus a little more time on some of the detail work around the course. If you have noticed they have begun the tree removal initiative. We have several areas around the course with storm damaged, ageing out or disease that need to be replaced for the safety of our members and their guest. This process began in late June and will continue throughout the summer. Chuck has also begun a planting program around the course to add some beatification to our already amazing golf course. He began this process several months ago slowly introducing the beautifully colored Lilies to the Cypress nine. Chuck and his team have developed a propagation system and these have been harvested from just a few plants. Chuck has further plans to continue landscaping additional holes on both the Meadow and Cypress nines. We are proud to announce that we have signed a contract for the beginning stages of bunker renovation. We recognize the drainage issues and the contamination that seriously effect play and have formulated a plan to renovate beginning with the Pine 9. Each bunkers drainage system will be assessed and repaired accordingly. The bunkers will also be refilled with G-Angle sand which is pressed and allows for better flow and drainage. Keep an eye out for further announcements as more capital projects develop throughout the club. The 2018 year continues to be another very good year for Carrollwood Country Club. The MSM Program has added over 57 members just in the last few months and we are looking forward to continued growth with a fun and exciting family oriented atmosphere here at Carrollwood. As we have stated many times in the past, our success relies on the support of you, our members. I would like to thank you for your continued support and we will continue to improve, invest and work hard at maintaining the facility that you and your family deserves. As always, my door is open for any feedback and I look forward to seeing each of you around the club.

BY RENEE CONSTANTINE, DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP SALES

Hello CCC Members!!!! OK Carrollwood Country Club Members, Summer is Definitely Here… The warm weather is now upon us, so now is a perfect time to make use of our Junior Olympic-Size Swimming Pool, kids Splash Pad and Wet Slide. We have Summer Camps that include Golf, Tennis and Swimming, so if you haven’t signed the kiddos up yet, there are still spots available. Also, don’t forget about Kids Club every Friday night from 6pm to 9pm. The ages are 3 years old (potty trained) to 12 years of age, and you must register the Thursday before by 2pm. It’s a great time for the kids to connect and make new friends and gives a little down time for the adults. A lot of you always ask me, how is the Membership here? And I must tell you, Carrollwood Country Club is truly doing great. The Membership is constantly growing with new Members every month. Some new to the area and some not, but all looking to make new connections. Therefore, we will be planning our 3rd New Member Mixer. Over the last two months we have added 40 new Members to the CCC Membership, so our next mixer should be a good one. Keep an eye out for the exact date, which will be announced shortly. It’s a great time to come out and enjoy some good food, have some drinks and get to know your fellow CCC Members. Now speaking of Membership, I always try to keep you informed of our latest promotions, and I believe our current promotion is one of the best yet…our MSM Program, Members Sponsoring Members. If you are not aware, listen up… If you sponsor a new Member, same category, you will lower your monthly dues for the life of your Membership. The new Member coming in will have lowered dues for their first 2 years and if they bring in someone during their first 2 years, their dues will also go down for life. You must give me their name and information prior to them joining. It’s exciting and I have all the details so if you have any questions or potential Members, please feel free to contact me. It’s Summer, it’s hot, it’s muggy, so stay cool, stay hydrated, wear your sunscreen, be safe and have a great Summer. Looking forward to seeing you at the Club! Best Regards,

Renee Constantine Director of Membership

DANNY BLACK, FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER

We’re almost half-way through Summer now, and we have really enjoyed the first half. With our Independence Day Celebration closing out the month of June, it was a blast! Thank you for all who came out to celebrate our Country’s Independence with us. Making this year bigger and better than years passed. We will now to start planning for next year to make it even better! Our Member Events are always a lot of fun! We encourage the continued support of our great Members to keep the fun rolling. These events are designed for you, so get to the Club and mingle with fellow Members, make new lasting friendships and help keep your Club thriving and active. So, please come out and support your Club and be involved with the culture that is Carrollwood Country Club. The upcoming months of July and August should be great! We have a few events lined up that are always crowd favorites. Starting off in July we will be hosting our Annual Hot Night in Havana Dinner Dance which includes a plated, four-course, Latin influenced dinner and complimentary glass of Sangria. DJ Felix will be here playing the best Latin style dance music and anything you request. Come and dance the night away at one of our favorite Traditions Dinner Dances of the year. August’s Member Event will be our Murder Mystery Dinner that was rescheduled from May. With a new theme from last year, and great food, we will be having a ton of fun while exercising your keen sense of deductive reasoning. But mostly having fun. Haha! Our Beer Dinners have been growing month to month. We have changed the menu style to be more “pub-friendly”, and the new menus have really been a huge hit with everyone. For July and August, the food and beer pairings are looking fantastic. Each Beer Dinner hosts a different Local Brewery that will feature 4 of their craft brews that are paired with 4 incredible food selections by our Chef. Also, the brew master or one of their top brewers will be here to discuss the beer selections with you. We will be continuing the Bacchus Wine Dinners as well. Our Wine Dinners feature 5 varietal wines from around the world and 5 unique food pairings to satiate any palate. For every Wine Dinner we also have a representative from the Vintner or a Master Sommelier to come and give you the in-depth information of each wine pairing. Our dining room has been constantly evolving. From our new menus and upgraded meats to introducing a new liquor program with many new and improved wine varieties to choose from. We have upgraded our service standards within the restaurant as well. Holding numerous training sessions for the service staff to improve our quality of service is something that is just as important as improving the quality of food. We have a special every day of the week for you to enjoy. Tuesday’s lunch special is BOGO sandwiches until 3pm, then in the evening we have our Kids’ Night. Starting at 5pm, kids eat free for each adult entrée purchased. On Wednesday nights we will continue our Wine Down Wednesday. Also known as “Pasta Night”. The all-you-can-eat, chef prepared pasta station includes garlic bread, choice of garden or Caesar salad and complimentary glass of house wine. This special is only $12.95 for one adult dinner or 2 for $22. On Thursdays, we will still have our Prime Rib Night. Two choices of cuts, Queen cut and King cut Prime Rib served with Chef ’s choice veggie and baked potato the way you like it. On Fridays our live music performances will keep you entertained on the Terrace. Saturdays new special will be our Southern Style Seafood Saturdays. Each week we will feature a different Southern Style Seafood Special for the night. Shrimp Etouffee, Gumbo, Shrimp and Grits. Who knows?? We have a ton of ideas for your Southern style food fans to enjoy. Sundays will remain Suds Sippin Sundays with half priced drafts all day long!! I’m looking forward to seeing all of you here at your Club. My door is always open and if you have any comments or recommendations of what we can do for you here to improve your experience, please let me know. Danny Black

news

From the Golf Shop

Carrollwood Country Club Members, Wow, this year is flying by. Hard to believe it’s already July. Aside from the rainy start to our Summer of 2018, the Club is looking forward to seeing the course spruce up nicely. As most of you know we are in the aerification season and things are progressing. We are trying our best impact your play as little as possible. However, during this period it is imperative that you call the Golf Shop and get your tee times as we are limited on times during this process. Moving forward through Summer, as the process changes, the impact on tee times will decrease. I would like to thank you for your understanding during this time. Our Summer Junior Golf Camps are in full swing with camps available for all levels of golfers. Our Beginner Golf Camps are instructed by Hannah Espy, Assistant Golf Professional and run Tuesday through Friday from 9:00am to 11:30am. These camps cover the fundamentals of golf and prepare kids to start playing. For our advanced Junior Golfers (a junior golfer has been playing for two or more years) we offer an advanced camp taught by Mike Durant, PGA Director of Instruction. These camps also run Tuesday through Friday from 9:00am to 1:00pm with lunch included. These camps cover full swing and short game instruction as well as on course instruction each day. If you have any questions, or would like to sign up for one of these camps, please call the Golf Shop at (813) 961-1369. Our Women’s Golf Association has just concluded another fun, competitive season. Our women still play on Thursday and Saturdays and are always looking for new players. If you have any interest in playing with our women or more information about the WGA please contact the Golf Shop and we will direct you through the process.

Our Men’s Golf Association is in full swing as we just completed our sixth event “Tough Day”, in June. Our next event is the “Red, White and Blue Tee Tournament” on July 14th. The sign-up sheet is available in the Golf Shop for this event. If you would like more information on how to join the MGA and participate in these events, please call the Golf Shop. We also have several men’s games throughout the week. On Tuesdays we have an 8:30 and 12:00 “Skins Game” (same game, different tee time blocks). On Thursdays, we have the “Thursday Night Shootout”. This is a 9-hole quota game that starts at 5:30pm and runs through the end of September. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays we have a quota game. Friday tee times begin at 12:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday tee times start at 9:00am. Feel free to contact Aaron in the Golf Shop and he can answer any questions you may have. In the Golf Shop, we are fully stocked with the latest apparel from Footjoy, Under Armor, Travis Mathew and more. We have the latest rangefinders from Bushnell offering the slope feature, and we have received the latest from Callaway in the Rouge Series with demos available. We also have the latest in the Titleist SM7 Vokey wedges, Scotty Cameron and the new Odyssey O’Works putters. Again, I would like to thank all of you for your understanding of the maintenance process through the Summer and your continued support of Carrollwood Country Club. I look forward to seeing you around the Club, and remember, when its breezy swing easy and great golfing to all of you. Sincerely,

Golf Staff

From the Golf Course Superintendent From the entire maintenance staff we hope you all enjoyed the Independence Day Celebration. It is a great event for everyone and the fireworks are always amazing! As we move further into the Summer, and our aerification schedule continues, I would like to inform you about the benefits of our aerifications, and why these procedures are necessary. Our course has Champion Dwarf Bermuda grass greens. This turf requires intensive cultural management to perform at its best. Champion turf gives us the capability of producing excellent putting surfaces under the right conditions. However, in order to provide you with excellent putting surfaces, we must perform an array of cultural programs including verticutting, topdressing, precise nutrient management, soil chemistry management and moisture management. One of the most important practices that we perform is the aerification of our greens. Aerification of our greens provides many benefits: • Creation of voids in the turf where new plants can grow providing enhanced vigor and helps combat grain. • Creation of sand filled channels which restore infiltration in the root zone. • Removal and dilution of thatch and organic material that would otherwise lead to thatch buildup and high organic matter. • Introduction of oxygen into the root zone thus releasing carbon monoxide from the rootzone. • Alleviates soil compaction. Our soil profile in our greens is layered meaning there are layers of high organic material and thatch buildup within the soil profile. Ideally it should be mostly sand with slight matting on the top couple inches of the soil. This layering within our soil profile inhibits drainage that can create anaerobic conditions, which impedes root development and nutrient uptake. The management team here at Carrollwood does not decide when we are going to aerify three times a year; our aerification schedule comes directly from the breeders of Champion Turf based on our soil tests. Our greens are one of the most important assets we have here at the Country Club. If we fail to take proper care of our greens based on the growers recommendations, we are allowing our most important asset to potentially lose its value. If we did not perform the proper maintenance practices for the greens we would not notice the effects immediately but long term damage would be done. This is similar to not changing the oil in your car at the proper time. The car does not drive any differently yet, the lifespan of your car would be diminished. By selecting the champion cultivar, we have selected a grass that should give us pure greens that will perform well…but only if we take care of them properly. If you would like to discuss this procedure or about any other agronomic practices that we perform my office door is always open.
