Ian Doubtfire, managing Director of Jet2.com, commented: “What better way to celebrate the launch of five new Spanish sunshine routes than creating our own unique version of the famous paella – fusing two iconic national dishes to give people a flavour of these new routes to Glasgow now available from their local airport” Jet2.com’s new flights from Barcelona, Lanzarote, Malaga and Murcia will depart from March 2012. Flights will depart as follows: • Barcelona- Glasgow: three times a week with prices starting from 26,49€ one way inc taxes • Lanzarote-Glasgow: weekly flights start from 48,49€, one way inc taxes • Malaga-Glasgow: four times a week, with prices starting from 26,49€, one way including taxes • Murcia-Glasgow: twice weekly, with prices starting from 26,49€, one way including taxes From May 2012 passengers will be able to fly from Ibiza to Glasgow. Ian Doubtfire continued: “This is an exciting time for us regarding flights to Glasgow. In just two months since we started flights to our newest base we have launched

five new routes from Spain and also increased capacity from others – this further demonstrates the importance of the Spanish market and the need for connections to and from Glasgow and Scotland. These routes of course are perfect for holiday makers from Scotland but are also very well received by our customers living in Spain. We hope this will appeal to both ex pats who wish to get back to Scotland to visit friends and family and also to Spanish passengers who want to try a short break in a fantastic city” Glasgow is a fantastic city which has undergone a transformation over the years and now offers an exciting mix of buzzing Scottish city life, Mackintosh architecture and the arts. Denise Hill, VisitScotland’s Head of International Marketing, said: “These new Jet2.com routes from Spain to Glasgow present fantastic opportunities both for short breaks in this wonderful city but also provide a gateway for longer touring holidays throughout Scotland that incorporate some of our iconic scenery in locations such as the Trossachs and the Highlands. The special haggis paella was made by head chef Alberto Juarez Castillo and combined haggis with paella rice, chopped tomatoes, peppers and onions, plus saffron and seasoning. The paella was taste tested by Jet2.com Glasgow team members Lesley-Ann Ferguson, Andrew Marshall and Paul O’Hara. Lesley said: “I thought haggis and paella was a bit of an unusual combination but when I had some it tasted great – the mild spices in the haggis really complemented the flavours in the paella.”

Legal Advice Law firm Ilagoson answers readers’ queries

Is it wrong to use my children to force my husband to pay maintenance? Ref. O.E.E My ex-husband does not pay the alimony to which he was sentenced, or pays it by instalments when he says he has some money. When he doesn’t pay I do not allow him to take our children, because he is not fulfilling the sentence that the judge pronounced, and my refusal always provokes him to go to the Guardia Civil to report me. I do not really want to prevent him from seeing the children, and I do not certainly want to get into more trouble, but I just want to make him fulfil his part of the “agreement”. I know he does not pay because he simply does not want to, as I know that he has the money. What can I do in this case? You can ask for the execution of the sentence to the Family Court that issued the judgement, asking for the seizure of the assets and income that your ex-husband has. You could also go to the Criminal Court for family abandonment, although this last option is not likely to be successful, as you would

have to totally prove that he does not pay because he does not really want to, and not because he has financial problems. Nevertheless, in any case, we recommend you not to prevent your ex-husband from taking your children in the periods that the judge allowed, as according to law his nonpayment of alimony is not a reason for forbidding a father to see his children, and therefore he has the right to report you to the Guardia Civil. You must be extremely careful with this, as these reports lead to trials at Court, and you could eventually lose be custody of the children if you repeatedly refuse to let the children see him

Nevertheless, we have almost taken the decision to marry, as we want to give a more official status to our relationship. We would like to know if legally there is any difference to a heterosexual couple. Homosexual couples have exactly the same rights as heterosexual. N THE eve of D-Day King George VI penned a note to wartime prime minister Winston Churchill. In his looping handwriting under the royal crest, the monarch told Churchill he had been thinking over their recent conversation and had decided it would not be a good idea for either of the men to be present at the Normandy landings. King George pertinently pointed out that it would not help the British war effort if either the king or prime minister were to step on a mine or be hit by a bomb. In our sound bite era when politicians are helicoptered into a war zone for a quick handshake and publicity picture and then

But then walking round the Churchill War Rooms in London is full of surprises. A branch of the Imperial War Museum opened to the public in 1984, the complex is made up of the underground Cabinet War

Rooms where top level decisions for fighting the Nazis took place and a Churchill museum crammed full of artefacts, maps and documents. This interconnecting series of subterranean passageways formed a base for the British government between 1939 and 1945.

MarinaLive! STYLE AND THE MARINA

Spring edition | APRIL/MAY 2011

How to stay cool on board ON-BOARD style images range from Pirates of the Caribbean to celebs in St Tropez. Geek or chic, style is all about location and craft, for example, you can still look great on an ice- breaker but not By EYLEEN SHEIL in heels and a bikini! Style and the Marina is aimed at making sure that you look good both on location and aboard, starting this month with tips about Style On-board a Yacht. Top tip! Whilst the temptation on that fabulous warm sunny day is to strip off for some serious sun bathing, beware, the sun can be very harmful and there is nothing attractive about sunburn, premature ageing or the risk of skin cancer. Cover all body parts which are directly exposed to the sun with a sun cream of no less than factor 15, and re-apply it every 2 hours. Sensitive skins should consider wearing factor 50 on face, shoulders and breasts, most swimsuits offer little protection from the sun and breast skin tissue is particularly sensitive. A secondary effect of the direct sun is dehydration. It is easy to ignore or even not notice the effects of drying, until symptoms become too obvious, parched mouth and a

muzzy headache. The best cure is prevention so make sure that you drink enough. Now let’s turn to the absolute core items for the boating fashionista’s wardrobe: • Classy swimwear, for basking on a sun lounger, swimming or simply posing! • Comfortable sundress, for days ashore or on-board. • Hot shorts, for showing off bronzed pins while strutting around the marina. • Fab boob tube, teamed with the shorts, perfect for no tan lines. • Soft cotton top to cover upper body, remember too much sun is not good. • Knock them dead when you get ashore dress! (no explanation required!) Ditch the heels, boat shoes, sandals, “flip flops” or barefoot is the norm. Of course we all love a bit of bling when cruising, but best to avoid bringing the ‘family jewels’. Sunscreen, partying and swimming will take their toll on gems even if you manage not to lose them over board. Consider costume jewellery; get the look you want, without the worry. Lastly, protect your hair with regular intensive conditioning treatments as humidity, sun, seasalt and wind damage are not the best of friends.

Las Vegas comes to the Med THIS summer will see the first Millionaires’ White Summer Party to be held in Marbella. This dusk ‘til dawn event, run in conjunction with exclusive jewellers Chopard, will bring the glamour and music of Las Vegas to the Spanish resort and is sure to become an important annual fixture on its social calendar. The glamorous event will take place in the exquisite, jasmine-scented gardens of the privately owned Finca la Concepción, just off the Golden Mile, on Saturday July 30. If tickets are purchased before the end of May, guests will be entered into a fabulous prize draw. An Evening from Las Vegas will pay homage to the glitz, glamour and incredible music of Las Vegas in its heyday. The organizers are flying over three exceptional musical performers, a 22 piece “Count Basie” style Big Band Orchestra and dancers straight from Vegas for a night full of music and excitement. The event will also be supporting the Red Cross’ Japan Tsunami Appeal by raffling a number of fantastic prizes, including two watches from sponsor Chopard. The amazing Maxine Barrie will open the show singing the powerful songs of Shirley Bassey accompanied by a full orchestra. A troupe of Vegas showgirls will then perform for the guests. They will be followed by an incredible singer, Stephen Triffitt, who is acknowledged to be the world’s best Sinatra performer. He will be singing all the classic songs with the backing of a 22-piece orchestra, under the stars! The second half of the evening will be more up-tempo, with American singer
