LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN Good Evening, Familia!
Welcome to the 2023 Gala Event of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey!
W
e’re delighted to have you all here today to celebrate the holiday season and our community’s entrepreneurial spirit.
This event is the perfect opportunity to connect with SHCCNJ members and supporters, share our culture, and strengthen our professional networks. We’re confident these relationships will evolve into long-lasting partnerships and friendships extending well beyond the new year. As we gather for a special evening of celebration, we must also reflect on the lessons we’ve learned over the past years. We have been called to adapt to unexpected changes and challenges. Still, we’ve persevered and used our experiences to create powerful, actionable best practices that will help us continue to grow our businesses and support our families. It’s been inspirational to witness our community’s consistent ability to turn challenges into opportunities, and we’re incredibly proud of your accomplishments. We’re also thrilled to be a part of such a vibrant, community-building chamber of small businesses! As the reliable advocate and support system for those seeking guidance and assistance, SHCCNJ expanded our offerings in 2023 thanks to new partnerships. These ensured small businesses had the resources and know-how to apply for federal, state, and local grant programs.
We remain committed to promoting the growth and development of New Jersey businesses.
Know that the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey continually works to empower you with the tools and resources you need to prosper. In that spirit, we invite you to apply to our programs, including the upcoming Hispanic Entrepreneurship Training Program, which provides free culturally and linguistically appropriate business education and mentorship services to Hispanic small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Last, we sincerely appreciate the continuous dedication and commitment from our members, board members, volunteers, staff, partners, and everyone who has contributed to our collective achievements over the past year. Join us in a toast wishing all of you – our peers, friends, and family – a healthy and prosperous New Year 2024, filled with opportunities for growth and harmony. Let’s celebrate the resilience of the Hispanic business community and recognize that we are exceptional role models of the American Dream. When we work hard, we can reap the fruits of our labor or, as we say in Colombia,
“Quien lo vive es quien lo goza.”

A NOTE FROM OUR
PRESIDENT AND CEO
The U.S.Latino economy continues to grow –at an impressive level that solidifies our economic impact in the country.
I
t reached $3.2 trillion in 2021, up from $2.8 trillion the year prior, according to a report by the Latino Donor Collaborative in partnership with Wells Fargo. The study reveals an inspiring fact: if Latinos were an independent country, our economy would be the fifth largest in the world, outpacing heavyweights like the United Kingdom, India, and France. These numbers underscore our economic power and must incentivize major brands to invest in leadership and procurement contracts that align with our numbers. We invite our members and business partners to join us in a strategic call to action to significantly increase procurement opportunities and the inclusion of Hispanic members on corporate boards in 2024. You can depend on our community’s strong work ethic, increasing lifespan, and growing human capital to continually amplify our achievements beyond our current success. The numbers show this year after year. As employers, we generate employment opportunities that contribute to tax revenues, fueling federal, state, and local services and social programs – crucial for the well-being of our employees and their families in New Jersey. Moreover, our growing population and increasing impact on large organizations’ revenue streams translate into innovative opportunities for small business owners. We can create authentic multicultural marketing or healthcare services targeted to population segments based on our lived experiences and the know-how representing our values, traditions, and culture. Yes, we are the target market! By partnering with Latino-owned small businesses, large organizations support local economies and enhance their return on investment through more targeted engagement in their markets.
In 2024, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ) will continue to deliver on our mission to secure a pathway of sustainable growth for our members to participate in a profitable supply chain that expands beyond our local community to our state’s border. We will expand upon the successes of 2023 with our free entrepreneurial training programs, such as the Latina Entrepreneurship Training Series and the Hispanic Entrepreneurship Training Program. We will continue to facilitate corporate networks, offer informational events, and assist our members in securing state and federal grants, bank loans, and business opportunities. We will also fervently champion the appointment of Latino talent to corporate board memberships, ensuring that Latinas secure influential roles in C-Suite positions where they can lead with substantial impact.
As your president and fellow Hispanic, I am moved by the humility and tenacity of our familia of businesses. Let’s celebrate our collective achievements and individual successes knowing that we are set on a path toward broader inclusivity. Join us in driving our business community’s influence across all sectors and corporate boards as we move forward in 2024!

“It was a great experience, gained a great deal of knowledge and networking opportunities, Barbara Mosquera (HETP Graduate) Once again, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ) has much to be grateful for and proud of this year! We extend our gratitude to our leadership, program instructors, participants, and supporters for making us the most prominent Hispanic chamber in the country. Our focus on fostering impactful business partnerships, innovative training models, and empowering financial literacy initiatives continues to amplify the economic progress of Hispanic entrepreneurs in New Jersey.
AWARDS GALA MAGAZINE / EDITION 6 PAGE 18
Here are some of SHCCNJ’s Highlights. HETP & LETS TRAINING HAS 90% GRADUATION RATE We are proud that 92 entrepreneurs and business owners graduated from SHCCNJ-led training - 50 from the Hispanic Entrepreneurship Training Program (HETP) and 42 from the Latina Entrepreneurship Training Series (LETS)! Our hybrid training model offered our dynamic and busy entrepreneurs the flexibility and ease to partake in over 40 instructional sessions led by Jairo Borja, Reina Valenzuela, Tatiana Orozco, and Daniela Velez, enabling participants to acquire actionable tools and knowledge for respective certifications. We also matched individual students who graduated from HETP and LETS with coaches/mentors who provided personal guidance in their areas of need. With a graduation rate of 90% for HETP and LETS, we continue to buck the trend by offering free, accessible, and leverageable programming to our business familia. It is a notable achievement, given that the drop-off rate for free programs is 30% to 50%.
SBA FUNDING, NJEDA LOANS, GRANTS, AND UCEDC FUNDING OPTIONS REFLECTING NEEDS As a data-driven organization, we are committed to responding to your most pressing concerns. In a survey of HETP and LETS participants, 50% of respondents claimed they applied for some form of financial help. We helped business owners take charge of their finances and grow their businesses with the fundamental drivers for success - access to capital and financial literacy. We provided numerous online classes, expert panels, and individual guidance to ensure members understand funding options.
We assisted members in applying for SBA funding, NJEDA loans, and grants while providing insights into UCEDC funding options. Additionally, our organization established connections between members and financial institutions, offering a range of financing options: · Capital Access · Business Credit Cards · Business loans and · Lines of Credit
EXPANDED CORE PROGRAMS TO NEW PARTNERSHIPS In addition to our core programs, we introduced new partnership programs tailored to the specific needs of our entrepreneurial community.
