Hello and welcome to Dronfield for today’s Evo-Stik Integro League Cup game between Sheffield FC and Stocksbridge Park Steels.
We hope our guests enjoy their stay at The Home of Football Stadium, and that they have a pleasant and safe journey back after the game. It was a good performance against Gresley at the weekend, I thought we played some good football and created plenty of good chances to have scored more than the four goals we got. We controlled the game for 80 mins, then we stopped doing what we had done for the majority of the game, and that allowed Gresley to score a goal.
I'm very disappointed to have conceded a goal in the manner we did, but on the plus side we got the win. Tonight we will get a chance to get a bit of pay back for the loss we had at Stocksbridge on Bank Holiday Monday, and it will also give us the opportunity to see how much we have improved since then. Stocksbridge Park Steels were formed in 1986 from a merger of local sides Oxley Park Sports and Stocksbridge Works. The latter club had competed in the Sheffield Association League, Yorkshire League and latterly the Northern Counties League. They won the Yorkshire League an amazing 7 times from 1952 to 1963, also winning the Division 2 and 3 titles twice apiece, and reached the final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup on 6 occasions, winning that competition twice, in both 1952 and 1964.
When Park Steels joined Division 2 of the NCEL in 1986 they achieved a string of midtable finishes before a restructure of the league placed them in Division 1 for 1991/92, which they promptly won to gain promotion to the Premier Division. Although ‘92/93 proved a struggle in the league they did lift the Senior Cup trophy when they beat Worksop Town 5-3 on aggregate over a two legged final. The following season they won the NCEL Premier, ahead of Thackley on aggregate, but were denied promotion due to issues with their Bracken Moor ground. Undeterred by that setback they finished 3rd the following season before gaining promotion, as runners-up, in 1996 to find themselves in the NPL Division 1. That year also saw them lift the Senior Cup once again, a trophy they also won for a third time in 1999. Life at the higher level started well with an initial finish of 6th place and, after a trio of mid -table finishes, came an impressive 4th in the first full season after the turn of the century. Once again they couldn’t maintain that level of achievement and struggled over the next few years before bouncing back to 6th place finishes in both 2006 & 2007. After this time the NPL restructured and the Steels found themselves in Division 1 South, along with newly promoted Sheffield. During this time the two clubs dominated the Senior Cup competition with Club taking wins in 2005, ‘06, ‘08 & ‘10 whilst Stocksbridge emerged victorious in ’07, ’09 and ’11. Both sides reached the playoffs in the inaugural Division 1 South campaign and they met in the semi -final where Sheffield took a convincing 4-1 victory. Steels responded best to that disappointment though by once again reaching the end of season play-offs and this time defeating Carlton and then Belper to confirm their promotion to the higher level of the NPL. After a couple of solid NPL Premier seasons they fell down the standings before being relegated in 2014. Back in Division 1 South they finished 17th in 2015 but improved hugely to just miss out on the play-offs the following season. They ended the following April in 4th place, losing narrowly in the play-off Semi Final and finished just in the top half of the table, ending in 11th place of the 22 sides, in 2017/18. So far this season they have had a mixed set of results, beginning with a defeat at home to Stamford, a draw at Gresley and a disappointing FA Cup exit at home to Bamber Bridge. They picked up their first 3 points of the season by beating Sheffield 3-2 on August Bank Holiday Monday but couldn’t maintain any positive mood with defeats away to Lincoln and Pontefract in the following games. Last Tuesday night a late Ben Rhodes goal sealed a win against Carlton and on Saturday they won against AFC Mansfield, leaving them 11th in the table as we prepare to square up in this evening’s League Cup clash. Tom Charlesworth A product of both Manchester United and Sheffi eld United's youth system, he signed for Stocksbridge at the start of the 2017/18 season. Alex Wiles Signed from National League north side Gainsborough Trinity at the start of the 2017/18 season a quality midfielder who started his career with Rotherham United before moving on to Evo-Stik Premier League side Buxton. Richard Stirrup An experienced midfielder who started his career with Sheffield Wednesday before moving to Stocksbridge. he then moved on to Sheffi eld FC where he was club captain and eventually move back to the Steels. Jack Poulton Into his third full season , a left-hand side player who started his career with Sheffield Wednesday before moving to Sheffi eld FC and eventually to Handsworth Parramore. Ben Rhodes Into his forth full season, a right sided player comfortable in midfield or defence. A product of our youth set up Scott Ruthven Signed from Lincoln United, Scott is a natural goalscorer who has been prolific at every club he's played for. Luke Mangham One of manager Chris Hilton's long-term targets eventually signed from Frickley Athletic at the start of the 2017/18 season. Aaron Moxam Steels first signing of the 2018/19 season, a prolific striker in The Northern Counties East league for both Pontefract Collieries and Handsworth Parramore. The much sought after striker was persuaded by manager Chris Hilton The Look Local Stadium was the place to be. Brad Beatson A former Sheffield Wednesday trainee, Brad spent two seasons playing in the National League North at Gainsborough before a move across Lincolnshire to Boston United, he is capable of playing centre-half or left back. Kurtis Turner The former Barnsley and Mansfield midfielder has joined Stocksbridge for a second spell, an excellent passer of the ball, Kurtis has impressed in pre-season. An ever present in the Yorkshire squad. Todd Jordan Into his second season with Stocksbridge, a vastly experienced defender/ midfielder who has previously played for Sheffi eld Wednesday, Lincoln City and in the National League for Stalybridge Celtic and Alfreton Town. Kane Swinburn Product of the Barnsley youth setup, an exciting midfielder who is capable of some spectacular goals. Signed during the summer break Tyler Williams An exciting winger who signed from Shaw Lane, he has also had Evo-Stik league experience with Frickley Athletic. Lewis Whitham Sixteen year old striker Lewis has come through our junior setup and is definitely one for the future. Chris Hilton Steels Manager, Chris recently signed a new contract to keep him at Stocksbridge for the next season, following a successful four seasons. He was previously manager at Worsbrough Bridge. As a player he represented the Steels, Sheffield FC, Frickley Athletic and Belper Town after starting his career with Rotherham United. Lee Thompson Assistant Manager, an experienced midfielder who started his career with Sheffield United before moving to Boston United, after a short loan spell, where he made over 90 appearances in division two. A move to conference national team Kidderminster Harriers followed he has also played for Worksop Town, Retford United, and Worksop Parramore. Ryan Laight First Team Coach, Ryan started his career with Barnsley before moving to conference side Tamworth, he has also represented Matlock Town, Ossett Town and Worsborough Bridge amongst others. Shaun Handisides Experienced Physio, who has been with the Steels for five seasons, previously with Chris Hilton at Worsbrough. Nigel Hanks Goalkeeping Coach - A respected coach with years of experience, Nigel is a well known character in local football and is part of the Sheffi eld United setup.

History Corner With Andy Dixon
Although the club was only formed in 1986, it was from a merger between Oxley Park and Stocksbridge Works, our history with the latter stretching back to the Sheffield Association League. In fact, there are earlier meetings in the archive against Stocksbridge based sides – Stocksbridge Church in 1896, Stocksbridge Forresters in 1900 & 1909 and Stocksbridge & District in 1922. The first meetings against Stocksbridge Works, that we know of, come in 1948, the games played in the Sheffield Association League. The away game was a 1-1 draw with the return seeing Sheffield winning narrowly, 3-2. A 1952 Senior Cup tie was a good one for Stocksbridge where, despite a goal from the prolific Geoff Robinson for Club, they sent their home support away happy after progressing by a 6-1 score, before going on to win the trophy for the first time in their history. Sheffield were back to winning ways in the next recorded meeting with Derek Ward scoring a hat-trick in an away victory in the 1953 Yorkshire League. The following season saw an epic FA Cup tie played out over 4 games in an 11-day period. After 2-2, 0-0 and 1-1 draws, with the next round date approaching rapidly, the sides met the evening after the last match and Sheffield eventually came out victorious thanks to a 3 -1 win! After this followed a period of dominance for Stocksbridge with 8 wins and 4 draws over the next 12 meetings, the last of those games an incredible 5-5 draw in 1958. To the end of the Yorkshire League years Club gained the upper hand, Frank Parker scoring in a pair of wins in 1959, although games were generally close between the teams. The last meetings were a home draw in the 1980/81 Senior Cup before Club progressed in the replay at Stocksbridge when they won 2-0. The sides would not meet immediately following the formation of the NCEL in 1982 until the current ‘Park Steels’ club joined Division 2 of the competition. They promptly met in the Senior Cup, in November ’86, with the ‘new’ boys coming out on top 3-1. In 1991/92 a League Cup tie saw Club gain some revenge thanks to a pair of Rob Spotswood strikes and the campaign ended with Stocksbridge claiming the Division 1 title to join Sheffield in the NCEL Premier. The following 4 seasons would see Park Steels overtake Sheffield in the standings, ending with promotion to the NPL for today ’s visitors in ’96. The shift in power shows in the results too as Sheffield won the first 4 league fixtures, although The Steels won a 1992 Senior Cup match, before Club then failed to win in the subsequent 4 meetings. There was a 12 year break in league games while Sheffield battled for promotion to the NPL, which eventually came in 2007. In between times there was just a single meeting, in the Senior Cup Quarter Final with goals from Richard Carrington and Rob Ward settling it 2-1 in Sheffield’s favour. Club won the trophy in that season and the two sides dominated the competition over the next several years with 7 straight wins between them; Stocksbridge won a 2008 Round 2 game between the teams and Club a Quarter Final tie in 2010 during that time although oddly they never met in a final. Once Club reached the NPL it was a story of so near, so far before Stocksbridge showing how it should be done the following year. 2007/08 had a 4-3 home success for Club on Boxing Day when they took, lost, regained and lost the lead in a first half that ended 3-3 before a winner around 10 minutes from the end, when Asa Ingall headed home. A March return saw an emphatic 4-1 win for the Steels as both sides chased a play-off spot and a 3rd meeting, sides playing each other 3 times that season, ended 1-1 at the end of April which, as it turned out, meant a 4th meeting in the play-off semi-final just 6 days later! Vill Powell and Stewart Copnell scored two goals apiece as Sheffield took full advantage of the home game to put themselves one game away from promotion, where sadly they lost a penalty shootout at Nantwich. The following campaign was a disappointing one for Club, who finished in the bottom half of the table, but a great one for Stocksbridge who won the play -offs to clinch promotion. The games between the teams ended with a 1-1 draw at Bracken Moor and a fine 5-3 success for the Steels in Dronfield. In 2010 two late Ashley Longstaff goals helped Club complete an incredible 5-4 Senior Cup win, after trailing 1-4 to a Jamie Vardy inspired Steels side. Club won two and drew one, including an FA Trophy game, in 2014/15 before both sides won away from home the following season. In 2016/17 Sheffield lost both clashes by a 2-1 score, despite taking the lead at Stocksbridge in August and looking the better side in the April return as Park Steels won an important 3 points in their progress to the play-offs. Last season saw an improved pair of results for Sheffield with goals from Jack Mawson and Mohammed Tijani helping them come from behind twice to rescue a point here before Luke Francis and Adam Chapman strikes helped Club win at Bracken Moor, again after trailing. Of course, we’ve already met this season with Park Steels claiming first blood by taking a relatively comfortable win, despite a late penalty for Sheffield making it a more respectable 3-2 score at the death.

Club in Action
Free-scoring Sheffield FC moved up to ninth spot with a convincing 4-1 win over Gresley , writes Stuart James, with top-scorer Marc Newsham the man gabbing the headlines with a hat-trick to add to his tally. The home side always looked the more positive from the off, with Jamie Kay the first to try his luck from distance, making the keeper make an awkward stop. Club took the lead on 14 minutes and never looked back, as Mitchell Dunne burst down the right to fizz a tremendous ball into the middle, with the league’s top scorer Marc Newsham getting on the end to steer home. Sheffield continued to press and look dangerous, and Mitchell Dunne went close by hitting the bar, with Leon Osborne forcing a save moments later. Photo © Ian Manewell
The second came just on half time and took the stuffing out of Gresley, as Dunne once again made room to put another excellent cross in, with Newsham stooping to nod into the net. After the restart Sheffield kept on the pressure, with Charlie Wakefield playing a superb ball to Osborne, and the end shot not far off the target. Shortly after the hosts were denied by the post, a good corner routine started by Jamie Yates, picking out Mitch Dunne who struck the foot of the post. Just after the hour Sheffield wrapped things up, James Kay showing great pace on the left to put another killer cross, once more Newsham was there to tap in for his hat-trick.

Steadman to get behind the defence, only to be denied Subs: Lee, Morgan, Steele, by Ross Durrant's fine save, and Daz Winter clearing McIntosh, Evans. off the line. Exit the M1 at Junction 23 and turn towards Loughborough (A512). At the First set of traffic lights turn right on to Snells Nook Lane, then at the crossroads (the Priory pub is on your left) turn left on to Nanpantan Road. Turn into the right after 0.5 miles on to Watermead Lane. The ground is at the bottom of the lane, with the pay gate just after the gates on the left. A bit of the lane down to the ground is used for parking, if you get there early you can use that, if you are a bit late or the attendance is a bit on the big size - there is still a sizeable car-park as you come onto the complex.
From Home of Football : 1 hour - From Sheffield Centre: 1 hour 10 mins
By Public Transport Nearest Station: Loughborough 3m. Kinchbus 11 from Loughborough (High Street) to Loughborough (Forest Road at Valley Road); half hourly, takes 10 mins. Continue away from town centre on Forest Road which becomes Nanpantan Road, left into Watermead Lane and ground is at end (½m). Bus back into Loughborough is Kinchbus 12.
What to Expect Our regular travelling fans should be used to this one by now - but to be fair it has come a right old way to get to where it is today. More or less it is a railed off pitch, with the stand created by seating in front of the clubhouse / bar and a kind of “awning” giving shelter. Elsewhere there is cover in the shape of a bus-shelter! A first defeat for Stamford AFC leaves newly-merged Ossett United as the only team yet to be beaten in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One East after Saturday's matches, writes Steve Whitney. The Daniels were beaten 2-1 at the Zeeco Stadium on newcomers Morpeth Town's first-ever visit. Joe Walton's penalty (left) on the half-hour mark and Jeff Henderson on 58 minutes had the former Northern League side two-up, and they held on, despite Sam Grouse's 67th minute reply. Ossett won 1-0 at Yorkshire rivals Tadcaster Albion, courtesy of a 74th minute goal from Gibraltar international Adam Priestley.
Cleethorpes Town got themselves off the mark, thanks to a 5-1 hammering of Belper Town, leaving the Nailers bottom of the table. The impressive Clee scored through Scott Vernon (2), Brody Robertson, Paul Walker and Lewis Collins, with Danny Gordon having given the Nailers a 19th minute lead. Managerless Spalding United though are the only side yet to win after a 0-0 draw at the Sir Halley Stewart Fields against second-bottom Pickering Town. It could have been worse for the Tulips though had Michael Duggan not saved a first half Ryan Blott penalty. Spalding's neighbours Wisbech Town won 3-1 at home to fellow new boys Marske United, whose Craig Gott put them in front from the spot near the end of the first half. Sam Gaughan, Ryan Harnwell and Sam Murphy turned it round for the Fenmen. Stocksbridge Park Steels were 2-1 Bracken Moor winners against another of the newcomers, AFC Mansfield, Kane Swinburn and Rory Coleman outgunning a Liam McFadyen own goal, while Marc Newsham netted a hat-trick for Steels' neighbours Sheffield FC. They won 4-1 at the Coach & Horses against Gresley FC, with Leon Osborne adding the other for Club and Alex Steadman replying for Gresley. Jameel Ible after 42 minutes and Gavin Allott 12 minutes from time turned the game at Carlton Town in Frickley Athletic's favour after Ben Hutchinson's penalty on the half-hour mark had given the home side the lead. Connor Smythe earned new boys Pontefract Collieries three points at Yorkshire rivals Brighouse Town with a 72nd minute goal, while Lincoln United came back from Ryan Robbins and Karl Demidh goals down in the first half to draw 2-2 at Ashby Avenue, thanks to new signing Andy Hutchinson on 49 minutes and James Blunden 7 minutes later.

Following on from the recent article about mindfulness, it got me thinking about other things that grab our attention, a major one being mobile/ smart phones…..pause to check my Facebook! According to recent surveys: 85% of UK citizens use smartphones! More than half (53%) of 16-75-year-olds in the UK use their smartphones while walking! More than 4.5 million people admit to using their smartphones while crossing the road! Smartphone adoption among 55-75-year olds in the UK has now reached 71%!
So, how many of us: Look at their smartphones within five minutes of waking, within the last hour before going to sleep, even take our phones to the toilet? It seems that many of us can appear be glued to our smartphones, so should we acknowledge that these devices are increasingly the glue that is binding society together, and will soon become the primary way to communicate, interact and transact with customers and fellow citizens? Although they are very good at helping us communicate, they can also decrease our social interaction, and we stop relating to each other in a personal way, preferring to ‘message’ each other, or live virtually in an on-line capacity. I came across an article about smartphone addiction and it was scary to see the symptoms and psychological/physical effects of such a condition, it also listed 15 examples to check if I was addicted, I can happily say that although some of them did apply, most didn’t. So, if you are now looking at your phone and not the game, you might be missing another goal feast, or something else important? If, however you think that you might be addicted to your phone, feel free to message me, only joking, better to talk to me, or call me! Got to go, my phone has just told me that I need to do something………. Enjoy the game.

With the kick off of the National Futsal League at the weekend, Sheffield Futsal Club have began preparation for the beginning of a new era for the club. Last season perhaps didn’t go as hoped. With the arrival of some new additions, along with the core members of the squad opting to stay on, this season there’s a real buzz around the place. The togetherness within the squad is there for all to see, on and off the court.

Playing a role in the rise of the team spirit is the return of former Sheffield Futsal Club captain, Adam Oldham. Adam, who last wore the red shirt of Sheffield in December 2016, returns in the role of Head Coach. With over 10 years of playing experience, Adam will be looking to pass on his knowledge to his players. “It’s been an interesting start to life as Head Coach of Sheffield Futsal Club. Since I arrived back at the club, there has been quite a few challenges to overcome. It feels like we are moving in the right direction, and as far as I am concerned this is everyone's first year in their new positions. Myself, Ollie and Thomas coaching as well as playing and the players, playing futsal (for the first time). We will build and learn as a team.” One of the first tasks for the new Head Coach was to select a club captain, someone who can lead by example and has a passion for the sport and the city of Sheffield. Step forward Jordan Wildey. We got this following quote from Jordan himself when he was appointed to the role: “I honestly can not wait for this season to start now. We were disappointing last season and there was a lot of contributing factors towards that. We lost a few players and our coach during the season but we have to look at ourselves as individuals first and foremost and overall the remaining players that were there all the way through did not perform consistently to the standards that this club demands. However, since Adam returned to the club the standards have been raised dramatically and we are all improving every single training session. It was an honour to be given the captaincy for the forthcoming season. To represent Sheffield means a lot to me and to have the role of captaincy is a huge privilege, I am following in some big footsteps so I hope I can do it justice. I know we are being tagged as the underdogs this season and that’s fine, as it will make it all the sweeter when we prove them wrong.” Sheffield made a great start to the season on Sunday, with a positive performance and result, beating Liverpool away from home with goals from Hollingsworth, Neath, Didici, Mellor and Gunter. Next up for Sheffield will be a visit to Tranmere Rovers, on Sunday 30th October, with a 12:00 kick off. The first home game of the season is on Sunday 7th October, we will be welcoming Birmingham City University Tigers to Sheffield. 4:30pm kick off, at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. Firstly, a brace for each of Hastings and John Fulford as Fulwood were beaten comfortably. 5 days later Club hit the net 3 more times but also conceded the same number to see the points shared against Dinnington Athletic Reserves. September 12th: SHEFFIELD FC 5 (John Fulford-2, Hastings-2, own goal) Fulwood 2 September 17th: SHEFFIELD FC 3 (Arthur Stanton, ???, ???), Dinnington Athletic Reserves 3 60 years ago In this week in 1958 today’s two rivals faced off against each other, in Division 1 of the Yorkshire League. Sheffield FC Manager and a Club Legend in his own right, Gavin Smith, has been catching up with some other legends of previous seasons - this week we have goal machine, Jack Muldoon...
Gav - What teams did you play for before Sheff Club? Jack - I had two spells with the club, first would have been Brigg Town (I was 18) and second was North Ferriby (when I was 22) Gav - How many appearances did you make for Sheff Club, and how many goals did you score? Jack - roughly 10-15 first time with around 3 goals. Second was about 21 appearances with 15 goals. Gav - What manager/managers did you play under and what was your relationship like with them? Jack - First time - Chris Dolby and Gav was a good relationship, second time, Ian Wit like an Uncle to me and still is. Gav - What is your most memorable game playing for Sheff Club, and what is the most memorable of your career? Jack - Most memorable game for the Club was a game against Retford on New Year’s Day when I was 18 I played centre mid we won 4-3. Most memorable game was playing in the quarter finals of the Fa cup at the Emirates against a strong Arsenal team. Gav - What was the best goal you scored for Sheff Club? (tell us about it please) Jack - Best goal I scored was against Carlton town at home was similar to Thierry Henry when he flicked it up edge of the box and lobbed Fabian Bartez but less of a technique. In my head it was as good though. Gav - Who was the Best player you played with while at the club and why? Jack - Best player would have been Lee Cooksey or Warren Burrell we’re still close mates so could be a biased comment. Gav - What were the best and worst grounds you played at during your career and why? Jack - Worst ground was Frickley, hands down was awful. Best Emirates. Gav - Do you ever come down to watch the Sheff Club or follow their results? Jack - Yes of course if they’re in the area then I’d try to go watch always, and follow them on Twitter I enjoy Andy’s sarcastic and very honest tweets - they eat me every time! Gav - Do you have any lasting memories of the Sheff Club supporters? Jack - not particularly but I do remember one guy don’t know if he’s still there called Roons really old guy think he played couple of games for the Club but never won anything, what a guy. Gav - Are there any funny moments, dressing room banter, training ground incidents that you remember from your time with the club? Jack - not really but couple of tussles in the tunnel, and Gascoigne used to enjoy urinating on people in the shower, but that’s it really. Gav - Where did you go when you left Sheff Club, what have you done since? Jack - After Club I left to go to Worksop Town where we got to the play offs and then I was picked up by Rochdale in League One. Then signed at Lincoln City for two years we won the National League, got to the FA Cup quarters and semi final of fa trophy. Left to play at AFC Fylde where we got to the play offs again, now signed at Harrogate town.

Sheffield FC The Players - 2018/19
Jamie Ingham – Goalkeeper Son of the late great NPL Legend Gary Ingham, 19-year-old Jamie is the first product of Sheffield’s Scholarship Partnership with Maltby Academy, breaking into the first team after impressing with the Under 19s and Under 21s over the past few seasons.
Joshua Turton – Goalkeeper Josh was highly sought-after before signing with Sheffield FC. The young goalkeeper enjoyed a fantastic campaign in 2017/18, furthering his development with Teversal Football Club, also impressing in pre-season trials. Alfie Eagle – Defender 17-year-old Alfie committed to Sheffield FC in August, having been picked out as one for the future by Rotherham United manager Paul Warne, and given a two-week trial with the Millers. A product of SFC’s Under 18s and 19s teams. James Kay – Defender James is a 29-year-old left back who joined the club for his second spell in June 2018 having played for Maltby Main, Goole AFC and Frickley Athletic after leaving the club in 2013. He was originally a trainee at Sheffield Wednesday. Julian Lawrence – Defender 25-year-old central defender joined Sheffield at the end of October, having played for Frickley Athletic, Worksop Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Hallam FC and Goole. Very vocal at the back and not shy at attacking either. Damian Magee – Defender Experienced and extremely reliable centre back who has had spells with Glapwell, Rainworth Miners Welfare Staveley Miners Welfare, Grantham Town and Clipstone amongst others. Ben Turner – Defender Chesterfield-born defender who returns to the World’s First after leaving in 2014 after previously being involved with Matlock Town, Goole and Belper Town. Highly dependable at right-back, comfortable at both defending and on the overlap. Daryl Winter – Defender Daz returned to Sheffield FC‘s First Team after a seven year gap, jumping at the opportunity to come out of retirement to help Club avoid relegation, with his typical brand of no-nonsense football and ferocious leadership. Adam Chapman – Midfield Experienced midfielder Chapman joined Club in November 2017. The former Sheffield United youngster had previously played at Oxford United, Newport County and Mansfield Town where he amassed over 150 Football League appearances. Moved to Gainsborough Trinity in 2015, before starting 2017 at Boston United. Also represented Northern Ireland at Under 21 level. Andrew Gascoigne – Midfielder Gazza returns to the World’s First after a period away with Goole AFC, Harrogate Town and Shaw Lane. Started with Sheffield Reserves and Under 19s before making his memorable breakthrough to the First Team.
James Gregory – Midfield “Jinky” is an exciting wide-man with a blistering turn of pace, returned for another spell having spent time in USA in 2013, and made his impact with some outstanding performances in the following two seasons and earning the accolade of Player of the Season in 2014-15. James Hastings – Midfield “Hasto” is yet another who has developed through the Sheffield FC Foundation Scholarship programmes, as well as performing in the WVH North Midlands League last season. Classy on the ball, and dangerous from the dead-ball. Anthony Mackie – Midfield Anthony was at Barnsley Academy and gained plenty of experience at Evo-Stik league football in spells at Goole AFC and latterly at Ossett Town. Capable of scoring goals, Anthony can play several positions and has resisted other offers to make the move to The Club. Ehsan Mohammed – Midfield Ehsan is an 18-year-old attacking midfielder who has shown he is no slouch when it comes to mixing it at first team level, having shown himself to be a star in last season's Under 18s and 19s sides. Matt Roney – Midfield The on-field Mr Sheffield FC if ever there is one, having served the World’s First Football Club in nearly 500 appearances, since joining Club as a fresh-faced youngster from local rivals Hallam FC. Still able to turn a game and has been known to chip in with the odd goal now and again. Nenad Smiljanić – Midfield Tall athletic midfielder Nen joined us in September from AFC Mansfield, having formerly played for Georgia State University in USA, and being a product of Barnsley junior football. Sam Wright – Midfield Central midfielder Sam also joined us from Ossett Town, and we are looking forward to seeing him in the thick of the action next season breaking up opposition play and setting up chances for our own strikers. Jamie Yates – Midfield Jamie is a lively, tricky winger whose former clubs include Rotherham United, Boston United, Gainsborough Trinity and Matlock Town. Jamie can play on either wing and worked his way through the Rotherham United youth setup before playing 34 league games for the club. Michell Dunne – Forward Signed in close season from Hallam FC, having impressed in the annual World’s Oldest Derby match for the Blues, Mitch is a goal-scoring predator who can strike from anywhere around the area. Still young, and destined for a big future. Waide Fairhurst – Forward Fairhurst is a well-travelled energetic, creative forward, who is just as effective with either foot and he is a versatile attacker, capable of playing anywhere along the front line, as a striker, supporting forward, or even as a winger. Marc Newsham – Forward Former Rotherham United, Boston United and Matlock Town striker returns to The Club 13 years after making appearances on loan whilst on professional terms with the Millers. Marc scored 110 goals in 209 appearances for Boston United before joining Evo-Stik Premier Division Matlock Town two seasons ago. Leon Osborne – Forward Well travelled forward who started his career at Bradford City, before moving on to Southport, Harrogate Town, Stalybridge Celtic, Buxton, Goole, Frickley Athletic, Matlock Town, Rainworth Miners Welfare, Farsley Celtic, Long Eaton United, Bradford Park Avenue, Brighouse Town, Hyde United and Scarborough Athletic. EARLY FOOTBALL Versions of football evolved in many early civilisations, example of these can be found in ancient China, Greece and Rome. In England the original games were played between villages in fields and streets. This ‘Mob Football’ involved hundreds of players and was little more than prolonged and violent street battles. During the 19th century a more refined version of the game grew in popularity within the public schools and universities, each playing to their own sets of rules. THE BIRTH OF SHEFFIELD FOOT BALL CLUB. During the 1850s the enthusiasm and influence of ex-public school and university students spread the popularity of the game around Sheffield. In the summer of 1857 William Prest and Nathaniel Creswick agreed that the game would be a splendid candidate for organised sport during the winter months. The pair wrote to the Public Schools for information, regarding their varying rules, with the aim of drawing up a set of laws embodying the best points from each. On October 24th, 1857, the world’s first football club was born in a greenhouse, at the home of Harry Chambers. Chambers went on to become one of the club’s greatest players, and Secretary, in a career that spanned over 40 years. Among the first rules drawn up were laws asserting that “no hacking or tripping up is fair under any circumstances”, “no player may be held or pulled over” and “it is not lawful to take the ball off the ground [using hands]”. Upon the formation of the Football Association in 1863, Sheffield Club’s insistence on these laws began the evolution into the game we recognise globally today. Heading, solid crossbars, corner kicks, free-kicks for fouls, throw-ins, a half-time change of ends and floodlit matches can all be traced to the innovators of Sheffield F.C.! EARLY YEARS Initially early matches, such as Married men v Unmarried, had to be played between Club members. Records also show games against local army sides. Following victory over the 58 th Army Regiment in 1860 a local report stated that, “most of the officers were adepts at the game, having, in their younger days, played in the public school matches, and the victory of the civilians was quite unexpected.” Following the birth of Hallam F.C., the world’s first inter-club game took place on Boxing Day in 1860. The match “was conducted with good temper and in a friendly spirit”, concluding in a 2-0 win for Sheffield. For several years all matches were played locally, against a rising number of new sides, before the first ‘out of town’ match was played in Nottinghamshire in 1865. In 1866 the first game limited to a length of 90 minutes was played at Battersea Park against London. The FA Cup was founded in 1871 and in its third season Sheffield became the first northern side to take part. They succeeded in reaching the quarter finals in this and two further seasons also, 1876 and 1878. 1872 saw the first international game, between England and Scotland in Glasgow, with Sheffield’s Charles Clegg playing for the England side. Clegg would later go on to be Chairman, and President, of the FA and receive a knighthood for his services to the game.

From the 1880s onwards the rise of professionalism and Sheffield Club’s firm insistence of retaining their amateur status saw them overtaken and overshadowed by other sides in the area. During these years the very survival of the club owed much to the leadership of former players Harry Chambers and Harry Broughton Willey. After the death of the latter in 1933 the minutes stated that “Mr H.B. Willey for years had carried the Club on his back, administratively and financially, making up a yearly deficit from his own pocket.” It wasn’t all doom and gloom though! In fact Sheffield enjoyed possibly their greatest hour in 1904 when they won the Amateur Cup, beating Ealing 3-1 at Valley Parade, Bradford. YORKSHIRE LEAGUE 1949 brought admission to the Yorkshire League and a resurgence, which saw the side promoted to Division One in their third season and reach the League Cup final in 1953. In 1957 they celebrated their Centenary year and reached their first Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Cup final in 1962. The 1950s also saw the emergence of the Club’s greatest legend with forward Geoff Robinson (above) scoring 232 goals over 216 appearances. After a period of yo-yoing between divisions the 1977 side were crowned Division Two Champions and reached that season’s FA Vase final at Wembley. They established themselves as a top division side in the Yorkshire League, lifting the League Cup in 1978, before joining the newly founded Northern Counties East League in 1982. NORTHERN COUNTIES LEAGUE The Division One title was won in both 1989 and 1991 and a first Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Cup win came in 1994. In 2001 the club acquired a permanent ground, for the first time, when moving to its current home. After the turn of the century the side began to consistently challenge for promotion, winning both the League Cup and Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Cup on two occasions. The 2006/07 season ended with a 2 nd place finish and promotion to the Northern Premier League. NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE The side made an instant impact in reaching the 2008 play-off final, narrowly losing only on penalties. That first season also saw games against Inter Milan and Ajax at Bramall Lane, as part of the 150th birthday celebrations, and a few years later a win at Hallam’s Sandygate ground to mark the anniversary of the first inter-club match. Sheffield have twice more been involved in the season ending play-offs and lifted the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Cup on two further occasions also. Manager Gavin Smith took over in May 2018, and hopes are high for 2018/19 of making good progress from last season’s disappointing 17th place finish. In addition the SFC Ladies’ team have now risen from the lowest rung of women’s football, to play alongside the elite of the game in the FA Women’s National League. Sheffield Futsal Club were again amongst the country’s leading sides, the Under 19s won the League Cup and the newly formed Sheffield FC Veterans (with Jim Fern scoring, right) went to the San Siro Stadium in Milan to win the ACLI Invitational Trophy as the club continues to go from strength to strength in the grass roots game in its 161st season. Ground Regulations 2018-19 Notice: Entry to the Ground is expressly subject to acceptance by the visitor of these Ground Regulations and the rules and regulations of the Football Association and the Northern Premier/Evo-Stik League in respect of the relevant match. Entry to the Ground shall constitute acceptance of the Ground Regulations. "Ground" means The Home of Football Stadium and all locations owned, occupied or utilised by Sheffield Football Club. "Event" means any event taking place at the Ground “SFC” means Sheffield Football Club. 1. Permission to enter or to remain within the Ground (notwithstanding possession of any ticket) is at the absolute discretion of SFC, any police officer or authorised steward. On no account will admission to any Event be granted to any person not in possession of a valid ticket. On no account will admission to a football match be granted to a person who is the subject of a current Banning Order. 2. SFC excludes to the maximum extent permitted by law any liability for loss, injury or damage to persons/property in or around the Ground. 3. No guarantees can be given by SFC that an Event will take place at a particular time or on a particular date and SFC reserves the right to reschedule the Event without notice and without any liability whatsoever. 4. In the event of the postponement or abandonment of the Event, refunds (if any) should be claimed in accordance with the relevant Event organiser’s ticket terms and conditions. SFC will have no other liability whatsoever, including (but not limited to) any indirect or consequential loss or damage, such as (but not limited to) loss of enjoyment or travel costs. 5. All persons seeking entrance to the Ground acknowledge SFC's right to search any person whether outside or inside the Ground and to refuse entry to or eject from the Ground any person refusing to submit to such a search. 6. The following articles must not be brought within the Ground - knives, fireworks, smoke canisters, air-horns, flares, weapons, dangerous or hazardous items, laser devices, bottles, glass vessels, cans, poles and any article that might be used as a weapon and/ or compromise public safety. Any person in possession of such items will be refused entry to the Ground. 7. The use of threatening behaviour, foul or abusive language is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the Ground. SFC may impose a ban from the Ground as a result. 7.1 Racial, homophobic or discriminatory abuse, chanting or harassment is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the Ground. SFC may impose a ban from the Ground as a result. The following acts are offences under the Football (Offences) Act 1991, as amended: 7.2.1The throwing of any object within the Ground without lawful authority or excuse. 7.2.2 The chanting of anything of an indecent or racist nature. 7.2.3 The entry onto the playing area or any adjacent area to which spectators are not generally admitted without lawful authority or excuse. Conviction may result in a Banning Order being made. 8. All persons entering the Ground may only occupy the seat/area allocated to them by their ticket and must not move from any one part of the Ground to another without the express permission or instruction of any steward, officer of SFC and/or any police officer. 9. Nobody may stand in any seating area whilst play is in progress. Persistent standing in seated areas whilst play is in progress is strictly forbidden and may result in ejection from the Ground. 10. The obstruction of gangways, access ways, exits and entrances, stairways and like places is strictly forbidden. Nobody entering the Ground shall be permitted to climb any structures within the Ground. 11. Smoking in No-Smoking areas is strictly forbidden. 12. Mobile telephones and other communications devices are permitted within the Ground provided that they are used for personal and private use only. 13. Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer and conviction could result in a Banning Order being made: 13.1 Attempting to enter the Ground or being inside the Ground whilst drunk; 13.2 Being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container and which could cause damage or personal injury, when entering the Ground or in a public area of the Ground from which the event can be directly viewed. 14. Any individual who has entered any part of the Ground designated for the use of any group of supporters to which they do not belong may be ejected from the Ground either for the purposes of their own safety or for any other reason. 15. No person (other than a person who holds an appropriate licence) may bring into the Ground or use within the Ground any equipment which is capable of recording or transmitting (by digital or other means) any audio, visual or audio-visual material or any information or data in relation to the Event or the Ground. Copyright in any unauthorised recording or transmission is assigned (by way of present assignment of future copyright pursuant to section 91 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988) to SFC. 16. No goods (including literature) of any nature may be offered either free or for sale by any person within the Ground without the express written permission of SFC. 17. Tickets are not transferable and may not be offered for sale without the prior written permission of SFC. Any tickets offered for sale may be confiscated by any steward, officer of SFC or any police officer. 18. CCTV cameras are in use around and in the Ground and SFC may itself use, or pass to the police or any Event organiser or other relevant authority, any recordings for use in any proceedings. 19. At all times whilst present in the Ground, persons must comply with any and all instructions of any steward or officer of SFC and/ or any police officer. Failure to comply with any instruction may lead to immediate ejection from the Ground. 20. SFC reserves absolutely the right to eject from the Ground any person failing to comply with any of the Ground Regulations or whose presence within the Ground is, or could, reasonably be construed as constituting a source of danger, nuisance or annoya nce to any other person. This could lead to further action including, but not limited to, a ban from the Ground or proceedings being taken. 21. Entry to the Ground shall constitute acceptance of the Ground Regulations.
