Following a hugely busy and inspiring Lent term programme of musical events, we are delighted to bring you our Trinity Term Music Diary.
I encourage you to join us at those events which are public; from Friday lunchtime concerts to our Cheap Street Church recitals and some of our evening events. We are excited about the quality and breadth of our music and are keen to share it! Music is life, in our very souls. Please join us in celebrating and encouraging our amazing young
people as they enhance our lives with the joy of music.
I think Daniel Barenboim summed up the place of music in our lives beautifully when he said:
‘I maintain music is not only here to make us forget about life. It’s also here to teach us about life: the fact that everything starts and ends, the fact that every sound is in danger of disappearing, the fact that everything is connected – the fact that we live and die’
Mark Cracknell Director of Music

HARRIET TORY TRUST MASTERCLASS AND CONCERT
The Merritt Centre | Sherborne Girls | Bradford Road | DT9 3QN
Masterclass 2 – 5pm | Concert 7pm
The Julian Joseph Trio
Julian Joseph has made ground-breaking advances for jazz in the UK. He was the first Black British jazz musician to host a series at London’s Wigmore Hall, and the first to headline a late-night concert at the BBC Proms with his All Star Big Band. We welcome the Julian Joseph Trio to Sherborne Girls for this year ’ s Harriet Tory Trust Masterclass and Concert.
Performers
Julian Joseph piano
Mark Mondesir drums
Mark Hodgson acoustic bass
“The most significant jazz musician this country has produced for many years, perhaps ever ” .
Peter Hepple
The Harriet Tory Masterclass Trust was established in 2008 in memory of Harriet Tory (Aylmar ’86), who was tragically killed in an accident in 2005. A memorial fund was set up in her name, which has been used to support the establishment of an annual masterclass and concert at school. Given Harriet’s life-long love of music and the personal support she gave to many friends to help them pursue their musical passions, we believe this is a fitting tribute to her very full and selfless life.
