SHERBORNE GIRLS SCHOLARSHIPS
Sherborne Girls is a school where each pupil is celebrated for their unique merits, strengths and talents. Our dedicated, professional staff ensure that every pupil under our care flourishes in all areas of school.
With exceptional academic, pastoral and co-curricular provision, from the moment a pupil joins us, they are encouraged to explore new subjects, think freely, broaden their horizons, step outside of their comfort zone and immerse themselves in clubs, societies and activities, music and sports to foster proactive global citizenship.
We welcome Scholarship applications from any pupil who possesses a passion for learning, a desire to challenge and be challenged, a keenness to share knowledge as well as develop their own, and who are unafraid of expressing their individuality, standing for their beliefs, while appreciating the importance of humility, listening and reflection.
DR
RUTH SULLIVAN HEAD
“I feel extremely honoured to be a Scholar at Sherborne Girls, and it helps me understand my role and how I contribute to the community. I really enjoyed the Girls Go Gold event and the sports webinars with famous athletes.”
SERAPHINA, SPORTS SCHOLAR
A SHERBORNE GIRLS SPORTS SCHOLAR
Every pupil at Sherborne Girls is provided with an engaging, enriching and physically active programme that encourages them to develop a lifelong love of movement and fitness, whilst pushing them to fulfil their potential. There are extensive opportunities to engage with a range of sports and other physical activities through the core curriculum, co-curricular clubs, formal and informal competitions and individual coaching.
Our Sports Scholars are those within each year group who show exceptional sporting or athletic ability and potential, and strength and talent in a particular discipline. They have a natural love of sport, a collaborative team spirit, a genuine desire to develop their sporting ability and a commitment to the pursuit of this.
As sport leaders within the School, our Sports Scholars are expected to prioritise their sport in co-curricular activities, developing their skills and representing the School in competitions
and sports fixtures as appropriate. As Scholars they share their passions and interests with the wider community, inspiring others to develop their own sporting aspirations whilst role modelling the benefits of sport within the community. They lead in creating sporting opportunities for others as well as themselves and spend time reflecting upon their personal journey of development, aspirations for the future and next steps towards achieving their performance goals.
“I
have valued the opportunity to learn about how sport helps our mental health and our body, as well as how to prevent injury. I loved doing Strength and Conditioning with L5 (Year 9) and the other Junior Scholars.”
OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU AS A SPORTS SCHOLAR:
As a Sports Scholar, we will provide you with a range of exciting, challenging and thought-provoking opportunities that will require you to think more deeply about the world of sport and your own performance, whilst deepening your knowledge and understanding of how to improve and achieve your potential.

BECOMING A SPORTS SCHOLAR AT SHERBORNE GIRLS
We would be delighted to hear from you if you feel you demonstrate the qualities that we are looking for: a passion for sport, an inquisitive mind, a willingness to listen as well as speak, team spirit, resilience and performance potential.
When applying for a Sports Scholarship, you will be invited to Sherborne Girls for a separate Sport Scholarship Day which will be exciting, rewarding, challenging and fun.
During the Sport Scholarship Day, you will be assessed in two sporting disciplines from a range of Sports the School offers. You will take part in a fitness assessment and be interviewed by a senior member of the Sport Department. You are invited to bring a portfolio of your sporting achievements; photos, certificates and references to discuss during your interview.
All Awards are subject to review by the School and whilst the expectation is that the recipient retains this throughout her time at Sherborne Girls, her performance and conduct will be reassessed at key points. If this should fall below the necessary standard and commitment required of Scholars, the School reserves the right to withdraw the pupil’s Scholarship status and associated benefits.
“For me being a Scholar means that I am a role model to others and I have a responsibility to play and try as hard as I possibly can.”
