CELEBRATING 2 YEARS!

Military Tactical Law, Inc opened its doors in May of 2021. Sean Wickerham is an avid collector of everything having to do with the military. It’s his way of preserving History; as Sean likes to say, “One relic at a time.” He is interested in all wars, all countries, and all conflicts. If you have something that is military related and you are thinking of throwing it away Sean asks that you “please” bring it to him and he will let you know what it is worth and possibly buy it from you. It’s all about preserving history. Currently some people in our country look at wars and veterans as something terrible when in truth good men and women chose to go to war to preserve our current freedoms and rights and also to protect our nation. Sean wants to establish a safe place where all Veterans will be honored and appreciated and garner the respect they deserve for their service rather it be military, police or a first responder.

Sean grew up in a military based home, his Dad was a Vietnam war hero and Sean grew up with a love of God, Freedom and Veterans. Sean spent 10 years in the Army, 7 years as a police officer and also worked as a Correctional officer. He has always had a desire to serve the public and still does. He

has also enjoyed collecting firearms and all other Military related Items.

Military Tactical Law, Inc. isn’t only a place to buy guns and ammo and other related items but it’s a meeting place for veterans and other collectors. On the second Sunday of each month they have a

RESCUE

SHOP that meets at 9:30am for Veterans to meet with other veterans. Military Tactical Law, Inc is one of the many sponsors of the Fun Run Ride on Saturday, June 24th the will benefit the disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Perry and Juniata Counties. See the Fun Run Ride for details.

Sean is looking to become a fixture in Perry County where Veterans and all people interested in our Military History can gather together and learn and help one another. He’s looking forward to sponsoring many other events in the future. Stop in at Military Tactical Law Inc and see all that Sean has to offer.

THIS REFRESHING SALAD CAN

MAKES A MEAL

Salads are best during the midsummer when they can be comprised of fresh and ripe ingredients plucked right from the garden. What’s more, salad can be a side dish or even the main meal if fortified with a little protein and some bread. This recipe for “Authentic Greek Salad” from “Clueless in the Kitchen: Cooking for Beginners” (Firefly Books) by Evelyn Raab is ideal.

AUTHENTIC GREEK SALAD:

Serves 4 to 6

4 medium tomatoes, cut into 1⁄2-inch chunks

1 seedless English cucumber, cut into 1⁄2-inch chunks

1 small red onion, diced

1⁄3 cup Zorba the Greek Dressing (see below)

4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled (about 1 cup)

June 30the thru July 3, 2023.

4629 Raccoon Valley Rd., Millierstown, PA 17062

1⁄2 cup black olives (kalamata or other brine-cured ones are best) Salt & black pepper, to taste

In a large bowl, toss together the tomatoes, cucumber and onion. Add the dressing and toss to mix. Sprinkle in the feta cheese and olives, and toss gently.

Taste the salad, adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if you think it needs it and serve immediately.

Zorba the Greek Dressing:

1⁄2 cup olive oil

3 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon crumbled dried oregano

1⁄2 teaspoon salt

1⁄4 teaspoon black pepper

In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients until combined. Makes 3⁄4 cup dressing — enough for a couple of bowls of Greek salad.

10 FACTS ABOUT TRADE SCHOOL

Vocational programs attract students who do not want to attend a traditional college or university. Prospective trade school students can keep this information in mind as they

consider if a career in the trades is right for them.

1. Students can often learn a trade and enter a related profession within 10 to 24 months of enrolling in trade school.

2. Schools focused on specific trades have strong job placement rates that often exceed those of schools where students pursue four-year degrees, according to the Philadelphia Technician Training School.

3. Qualified instructors and trade industry experts tend to be on staff at vocational schools. The instructors bring years of on-the-job experience to the classroom.

4. Many trade school programs offer accelerated formats that lean heavily on specialized training for specific career goals.

5. Trade schools tend to merge instruction in a traditional classroom setting with hands-on training in real-world situations. That means those studying electrical trades may work in laboratories that mimic both home and business settings.

6. Forbes reports that students in trade school often take part in a paid apprenticeship where they earn money while learning on the job. Statistics from the United States government state 92 percent of apprentices who complete their programs retain employment and go on to earn a salary.

7. Many trades are quite lucrative and in-demand. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, carpenters earn a median wage of $54,000 while an elevator and escalator installer and repair person earns an average of $86,000 per year.

8. Many trade schools offer industry support and career services, just like traditional colleges. These departments can assist students in funding tuition through federal aid and scholarships and help them find jobs.

9. Students enrolled in accredited vocational schools could be eligible for federal student aid. That’s particularly true for students enrolled in programs that last longer than 15 weeks, according to The Balance, a financial resource. Individuals living in the U.S. can file the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if they’re eligible for assistance.

10. Apart from elevator installers and repair people, dental hygienists and radiation therapists tend to earn the highest salaries in the trades.

Students interested in trade education can speak with school guidance counselors or reach out to accredited trade schools to learn more about opportunities near them.

Did you know?

According to the National Weather Service, the summer solstice, which marks the official beginning of summer, occurs at the moment the earth’s tilt toward the sun is at a maximum. As a result, on the day of the summer solstice, which in 2023 occurs on Wednesday, June 21, the sun appears at its highest elevation with a noontime position. The precise moment the solstice occurs is when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer. This year the sun will reach that point at 10:57 a.m. Though it’s not always sunny on the summer solstice, when the sun is out throughout the solstice people in the Northern Hemisphere can expect more hours of sunlight than any other day of the year. That provides yet another reason to welcome the official arrival of summer.
