In a design scheme where colors are minimum, textures play an important role in elevating the design from boring to a minimalistic delight. Wood is one of the major materials used in the design.
Accent pieces are the ones which gives personality to the design. Majority of the accent pieces selected for this design are simple yet elegant pieces.

The main concern of the project was not to, in any way, be alien to the design of Mies Van de Rohe. That meant lesser divisions of rooms, flexible spaces and minimalistic yet meaningful design.
10
The plan is a simple one. There are very no barriers except, of course , for the washrooms. Spaces are visuallt divided based on the flooring. Also, there is scope for the change in the functionality of the spaces. The existing wooden flooring has been kept intact. Major change to the existing design is the addition of another washroom

The existing plan had all the provisions set for a kitchen. Since the clients are not extensive users of the kitchen, no barrier was required. ALso, on the right is a storage/showcase. The accent piece has LED profile lighting.

The design of the kitchen is simple with a single type of tiling. It goes well with the white in the walls and shelves. Also, there are copper coloured accents scattered all across the house. It can be visible in both the wallpapers, the stove and sink

The only interior wall group in the entire plan. The space is a transistion point from the snug entrance to an open living area and sleeping space. The accent pieces here, are the scandinavian styled sideboard and bookshelf.

The living area is probably the best space in the apartment. With an outstanding view and open space, it gives comfort to it’s users. The flexibilty of this space is also an important design feature. The centre table can be slid aside to provide space for more people and it has a storage space as well. One of the corners can be transformed into

Providing seperate sleeping areas and working areas requires lot of area. Honestly, that space is simply a burden until it is used if the traditional bifurcation technique is used. So, this custom bunk bed style module houses both the sleeping and working spaces under a small footprint. The Frame is Plywood reinforced with MS framework

One of the client’s main requirement was basically to have more space with the given space. The only viable option available was the concept of flexibility of spaces. The option of that enhanced that space opening up poosibilities which the current building didn’t offer. Like providing a balcony without having to sacrifice space. The functionality of the design was more important than the aesthetics. But, I believe, there is a nice balance between functionality and aesthetics. That is the ultimate goal after all. Creating a beautiful, functional space.
