Membership

MEMBERSHIP As a current full-time student, faculty, or staff member, you already have access to the Rec Sports Center! We offer nonstudent memberships for SHSU Alumni, retired Faculty/Staff, and Spouses/Domestic Partners of current members. To enter the RSC, a valid Bearkat OneCard or Membership ID is required. For more information, please visit shsu.edu/membership

Attire Guidelines You must have a towel larger than 6� x 6� with you in the weight room. Please wear attire that covers your torso. Closed-toed sports/tennis shoes are required. Please, no bare midriffs, open-armed tank tops, jeans, or shorts with rivets.

Guest Passes Students, Faculty/Staff, and all SHSU Rec Sports facility members may sponsor two (2) guests per day by purchasing daily passes ($7 each). Guests must be accompanied by the sponsor and have a valid ID on hand.

LOCKER ROOMS

Quarter lockers found near the RSC Weight Room and changing rooms are available for day use and are cleared at closing.

Day use lockers are available for you to keep your items secure and off the floor. Bring your own lock and clear it daily. General use cubbies with no doors are also available at your own risk and are cleared daily.

Lockers are free to use; patrons must provide their own locks. Once a year they must be cleared. Signs are posted prior to cleanout.

Fitness & Wellness

FITNESS & WELLNESS The Fitness Program offers comprehensive activities for the Bearkat Community. Programs include GroupX Classes, Personal Training, Instructional Classes, Fitness Workshops, Certifications, Weight Room Orientations and more.

Custom GroupX Classes Looking for something fun to do with your friends, your organization, or your department? Try a custom group fitness class! Priced starting at $1 per minute, it is a great way to team-build and do something different, all while getting fit. Schedule some stress relieving yoga for your staff members, bring your friends and try one of our black light cycling classes, or take out some aggression with a Hit Fit class. Don’t want to come to the RSC for your event? We’ll come to you! Classes can be scheduled in the RSC or at another campus location.

Weight Room Orientations

$5 / Mondays 5:15 PM Ever wonder if you’re using the weight room correctly? Let one of our certified personal trainers be your guide. Learn how to adjust the weight equipment, get help with your form, and practice proper etiquette. Register online at rsconnect.shsu.edu.

Trainer Tip Tuesdays Every Tuesday

Join us on Social Media and let our personal trainers teach you a new exercise every Tuesday. You will learn the correct form and technique for many popular and innovative exercises, as well how you can modify it for any level of ability.


Piney Woods Yoga Tuesdays / 7:00 - 8:00 PM Sept 5, Oct 3, Nov 7, Dec 5 Bring a mat or towel and join us in the courtyard of the new Piney Woods Hall for an evening of yoga and relaxation. Held the first Tuesday of every month, classes are free for everyone.

Yoga Rocks! Mondays / 7:00 - 9:00 PM Sept 18, Oct 16, Nov 13 Rock climbing = Strength+endurance+ flexibility+mindful = Yoga. Two methods combined for the same goal. Free for Group X and Climbing Wall pass holders. Space is limited. Register online at rsconnect.shsu.edu.

Sunset Yoga Tuesday, Sept 19 / 7:30 - 9:00 PM Meet in RSC Lobby Come get a breath of fresh air during our sunset yoga class. This class is everything you love about yoga combined with the relaxing view of the setting sun. Free for everyone!

Fitness Assessments $15 per session / Included with personal training packages of 5+ Learn where you are, so you’ll know where to go! Essential for anyone wanting to make a plan for their future fitness goals, fitness assessments include an evaluation of the major fitness components including body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, estimated body age, and core strength.

Hit Fit (2.0 - Session II) Tuesdays / 7:30 - 8:30 PM / MP1 Release your everyday tensions in this upbeat class. You will utilize gloves, focus pads, and bags to learn the basics of kickboxing and mixed martial arts. No experience is necessary. Progress even further with our 2.0 class during second session.

Women on Weights Thursdays / 5:30 - 6:30 PM / RB1 Not sure where to start in the weight room? Join us in RB1 for a class designed for women. Learn how to properly perform strength exercises, what works best for the female body, as well as how to develop your own personal strength program.

Fitness Can Challenge Food Drive Month of November

Our personal trainers and group exercise instructors put you through workouts all semester, now it is your turn! Donate cans and non-perishable food items at the RSC to challenge your instructor or trainer. One can equals one rep of an exercise of your choice. Barre

Hip Hop

Meet us at the barre and experience a fun full body workout that incorporates ballet, yoga, and Pilates to strengthen, tone, and stretch.

Whether you enjoy dancing or just want to do something fun for your workout, hip hop is for you! This class will keep your heart rate up, while giving you a great cardio and core workout. Have fun while working out!

CIZE

Tired of traditional cardio? ExerCIZE with this dance based format and enjoy your workout. Perform these pulse-pounding workouts while working on cardio, core, and overall muscle toning – all at once!

Cycle Fit This indoor cycling class consists of varying speeds, resistance levels and intensities targeted at raising your heart rate and strengthening your lower body while taking you through a variety of sprints and hills.

Cycle Toning This all-encompassing class will use cycle to build your cardio, and a strength workout to tone your muscles. You’ll experience intervals of cycling followed by body sculpting strength activities.

Foam Roll

Everyone needs a little R&R. Foam rolling will help you get those hard to stretch muscles while improving your flexibility. Pair this class with your own workout or any one of our group fitness classes.

HardCORE This short workout is designed to strengthen and sculpt your core muscles! A great addition to any cardio or strength class, or after your own personal workout.

Insanity

Made famous by Shaun T., Insanity will push you past your limits with plyometric drills on top of nonstop intervals involving strength, cardio, and core movements. This class is sure to get your heart pumping!

KatFit What is your workout of the day? This team environment class will utilize a variety of strength equipment including barbells, kettlebells, TRX, and more.

Kettlebells A functional training workout using a castiron weight with a handle. You’ll perform ballistic exercises combining cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training.

Pilates

This class will increase your flexibility while strengthening muscles that help with balance and coordination while using only your body weight and minimal equipment.

Pop Pilates This total body Pilates workout sculpts a rock solid core and strong, lean muscles by challenging you to flow from one exercise to the next to the beat of the music.


Fit Campus This circuit-based class involves traveling around campus and utilizing various equipment and different locations to get a full body workout in. Come check out this creative way to improve muscle strength, endurance, and agility!

Total Body Toning This full body workout increases muscular strength and endurance, targeting all the main muscle groups utilizing a variety of strength equipment including barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells and more.

STRONG by Zumba ™ This class has a combination of HIIT, body weight exercises and strength conditioning lead by the music. This is not a dance-fitness program, but like Zumba®, the music is part of the foundation.

Tabata

This high intensity interval routine will give you a full body workout using body weight exercises and weighted equipment.

TRX Body Sculpt Your typical hardcore class with a twist. Utilizing TRX suspension trainers and other core techniques, this routine is sure to be a great addition to your personal workout.

Yoga This mind-body class does more than improve flexibility. Gain balance, core strength, muscular strength and endurance, and leave feeling relaxed and ready.

Zumba ™

The fitness craze that fuses Latin-based rhythms with motivating music, unique moves, and challenging combinations. Ditch the workout and join the party!

Booty Blast This class incorporates movements targeting your lower body using both body weight exercises and strength equipment.

FACILITIES & RESERVATIONS About our Facilities Recreational Sports is responsible for the management and general operation of nine recreational facilities across the SHSU campus. Each of our facilities is available for reservation and/or rental to the SHSU community. To learn more about reserving and/or renting any of our facilities, please visit recsports.shsu.edu (Facilities) to fill out the reservation request form.

University Camp University Camp is a one-of-a-kind recreation and retreat facility that offers the university community an ever increasing range of facilities. Open for day and limited overnight use, it’s an ideal spot for a variety of functions. Meeting lodges, a dining hall, barbeque pits, a fishing pier, picnic areas and more are available.

Challenge Course Price Range [ $10 - $20 / Person ] The Challenge Course at University Camp offers a unique, multi-participant high ropes course and an expansive series of low elements all in a beautiful natural setting. With the help of our thoughtful and well-trained staff, the programs offered can be designed to meet any number of educational, developmental and recreational goals.

Aquatics

AQUATICS Take a swim in our seasonally-heated pool. We have four 25-yard lap lanes and a leisure area which can be used for water volleyball, water basketball or intramural and special events. Additional amenities include a tanning area, lounge chairs and covered tables.

Private Swim Instruction Reach your swimming goals with tailored coaching from a certified Water Safety Instructor. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Southland Conference Swim Challenge Sept 5 - Nov 19 [ FREE ] Join us in the pool for this fun FREE incentive program. Swim or water-walk the distances to each school and earn prizes along the way. Stay motivated by obtaining a tracking sheet in the pool office.

Want to get back into the swim of things? Get a great workout while improving your endurance and speed. This coached swim workout will challenge any level of swimmer. Intramural Sports

INTRAMURAL SPORTS The Intramural Sports program provides you the opportunity to compete and have fun in various team and individual sports. Leagues and tournaments are organized into different skill levels so you can play against other participants with comparable abilities in a relaxed, recreational atmosphere. Flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, racquetball, golf, and tennis are just a few of the sports offered throughout the year.

Become an Official Have fun officiating a variety of sports and pad your resumé with words like “quick decision making, problem solving, judgement, and leadership” by becoming an Intramural Official. The best officials will have the opportunity to referee regional and national tournaments held throughout the year.

Set Your Summits Climbing Challenge Semester Pass [ Required ] Aug 21 - Dec 2 From Wheeler Peak in New Mexico to Mount Everest in Nepal, set a summit and climb that elevation on our climbing wall. Track your progress every time you climb and awards will be given to the top summiters at the end of the semester.

Chalk up on some real Texas limestone as we journey to Austin, TX for a weekend on the crag. We will camp in the Pace Bend Park overlooking beautiful Lake Travis, and climb out at Reimer’s Ranch. First time climber? Not a problem! There are plenty of fun and challenging routes for all skill levels.
