WHY WORK AT THE REC? by Yasmine Banks
W
orking at the Rec has been one of the best jobs I've had. Being part of the marketing team allowed me
to get outside my comfort zone while doing something I love. It's a good feeling to know that I'm working in the field I want to pursue after graduation. Although I was hired as a graphic designer I've branched into photography and social media as well. The best part is having very flexible hours so I can still maintain good grades and a social life. I recommend working at the Rec because I think there's something for everyone. Each department is so incredibly different and has such a fun mix of personalities. Working at the Rec allows you to build skill sets that will be transferable in the real world. It's not only a beneficial experience but an enjoyable one.
25
OUTDOOR RECREATION The trips and workshops offered by the Outdoor Recreation Program are open to anyone who wants a truly unique experience. Trips can vary in difficulty from easy to strenuous and range from an afternoon in a canoe to a week in the backcountry. This is your chance to get outside, try something different, and live the life less ordinary. No experience is necessary! Trip costs include: transportation, equipment, food (except any meals on the road), permits and fees, lodging or camping, instruction, and guides. Registrations open August 21.
“
As a trip leader, I see a lot of people take the experiences we give them and turn them into life-long memories and future experiences. The outdoors is broad, so there’s always something for everyone.
