Membership

03 MEMBERSHIP As a current full-time student, faculty, or staff, you already have access to the Rec Sports Center! We offer non-student memberships for SHSU Alumni, retired Faculty/Staff, and Spouse/Domestic Partners of current members. To enter the RSC, a valid Bearkat One Card or Membership ID is required. For more information, visit Recsports.shsu.edu

Guest Passes Students, Faculty/Staff, and all SHSU Rec Sports facility members may sponsor two (2) guests per day by purchasing daily passes. Guests must be accompanied by the sponsor and have a valid ID on hand.

Attire Guidelines You must have a towel larger than 6� x 6� with you in the weight room. Please wear attire that covers your torso. Closed-toed sports/tennis shoes are required. Please, No mid-riffs, open-armed tank tops, jeans or shorts with rivets allowed.

LOCKER ROOMS Lockers are free to use, but patrons must provide their own locks. Once a year they must be cleared. Signs are posted prior to cleanout.

DAY USE LOCKERS Day use lockers are available for you to keep your items secure and off the floor. Bring your own lock and clear it daily. General use cubbies with no doors are available at your own risk and are cleared daily.

Priced starting at $1 per minute, it is a great way to team-build and do something different, all while getting fit. Schedule some stress relieving yoga for your staff members, bring your friends and try one of our black light cycling classes, or take out some aggression with a Hit Fit class. FACILITY RESERVATIONS 05 About our Facilities Recreational Sports is responsible for the management and general operation of eight recreational facilities across the SHSU campus. Each of our facilities is available for reservation and or rental to the SHSU community. University Camp is a one of a kind recreation and retreat facility that offers the university community an ever increasing range of facilities. Open for day and limited overnight use, it’s an ideal spot for a variety of functions. Meeting lodges, a dining hall, barbeque pits, a fishing pier, picnic areas and more are available.

Challenge Course Price Range [ $10 - $20 / Person ] The Challenge Course at the University Camp offers a unique, multi-participant high course and an expansive series of low elements all in a beautiful natural setting. With the help of our thoughtful and well trained staff, the programs offered can be designed to meet any number of educational, developmental and recreational goals.

06 CERTIFICATIONS American Red Cross CPR/AED/FA Training Sundays [ Sept. 25 / Oct. 9 / Nov. 13 Feb. 19 / Mar. 26 / Apr. 30 ] The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. Aspire to be a personal trainer? This course will help prepare you for the ACE Personal Trainer Examination. Fee includes: study materials, discounted books, practice exam, testing tips, exam discount, and fitness assessment. Exam fee is not included. 17

Aquatics

AQUATICS 07 Jump in for a swim in our seasonally-heated pool. We have four 25-yard lap lanes and a leisure area which can be used for water volleyball, water basketball or Intramural and special events. Additional amenities include a tanning area, lounge chairs and covered tables.

Private Swim Instruction Reach your Swimming goals with tailored coaching from a certified Water Safety Instructor. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Southland Conference Swim Challenge Sept. 6 - Nov. 22 [ FREE ] Join us in the pool for this fun free incentive program. Swim or water walk the distances to each school and earn prizes along the way. A great way to stay motivated. To join, you can obtain a tracking sheet at the pool office.

08 CLUB SPORTS The Club Sports Program consists of recognized student organizations that are established to promote common sport and recreation interests. Each club has been founded and maintained by volunteer student leaders. Club members are actively involved in the leadership and decision making process of club activities.

Clubs Team Accolades Quidditch Outstanding Recreational Organization Club Quidditch attended the Division I National Tournament in Columbia, SC, reaching the final 32. Trap and Skeet Jenni Clark was named to the NRA All American Team and placed 1st overall in the Women’s Division as well as winning 5 individual events. Powerlifting Club Powerlifting competed at their National Meet in Providence, RI, placing 5th nationally in their first year competing. Women’s Volleyball Women’s Club Volleyball attended their first national tournament in Louisville, KY.

09 INTRAMURAL SPORTS The Intramural Sports program provides you the opportunity to compete and have fun in various team and individual sports. Leagues and tournaments are organized into different skill levels so you can play against other participants with comparable abilities in a relaxed recreational atmosphere. Flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, racquetball, golf, and tennis are just a few of the sports offered.

Become an Official Have fun officiating a variety of sports and pad your resume with words like “quick decision making, problem solving, judgement, and leadership� by becoming an Intramural Official. Outdoors

10 OUTDOORS The trips and workshops offered by the Outdoor Recreation Program are open to anyone who wants a truly unique experience. Trips can vary in difficulty from easy to strenuous and range from an afternoon in a canoe to a week in the backcountry. This is your chance to get outside, try something different, and live the life less ordinary. No experience is necessary! Trip costs include: transportation, equipment, food (except any meals on the road), permits and fees, lodging or camping, instruction, and guides. Famous for its crystal clear waters, the San Marcos River has something for everyone. The San Marcos is a fun and easy river, with a few exciting rapids along the way.

There are plenty of fun and challenging routes for all skill levels.

Join us as we venture into the caves at Colorado Bend State Park. We’ll be helping out the Texas Speleological Society in their efforts to keep Texas caves user friendly. No experience is needed for this awesome adventure into the world of spelunking!

We will be staying in the Lodge at the Sipapu Ski Resort in beautiful New Mexico. We’ll also be hitting up other popular New Mexico ski resorts such as Santa Fe and Angel Fire. Lead Climbing Clinic SHSU Members [ FREE ] Non-Students [ $7 ] Nov. 17, 2016 [ 5 - 8 PM ] RSC Climbing Wall Advance your climbing skills to the next level with sport climbing. Learn proper techniques, safety, as well as equipment care and maintenance. Must be Top Rope Belay Certified and be able to climb a 5.9 cleanly.

Vertical Happy Hour SHSU Members [ FREE ] Non-Members [ $7 ] Every Thursday [ 6 - 8 PM ] New to climbing or a seasoned pro? Stop by the wall every Thursday night for some free fun on the wall.

Set Your Summits Climbing Challenge Semester Pass [ Required ] Aug. 21 - Dec. 2 From Wheeler Peak in New Mexico to Mount Everest in Nepal, set a summit and climb that elevation on our climbing wall. Track your progress every time you climb and awards will be given to the top summiters at the end of the semester.

Climb On! After Hours Semester Pass [ Required ] Sept. 13, Oct. 12 , Nov. 7 [ 8 - 10 PM ] Join us at the climbing wall for some fun after hours climbing just for passholders.
