MEMBERSHIP As a current full-time student, faculty, or staff, you already have access to the Rec Sports Center! We offer non-student memberships for SHSU Alumni, retired Faculty/Staff, and Spouse/Domestic Partners of current members. To enter the RSC, a valid Bearkat OneCard or Membership ID is required. For more information, please visit recsports.shsu.edu

Attire Guidelines You must have a towel larger than 6� x 6� with you in the weight room. Please wear attire that covers your torso. Closed-toed sports/tennis shoes are required. Please, no midriffs, open-armed tank tops, jeans or shorts with rivets.

Guest Passes Students, Faculty/Staff, and all SHSU Rec Sports facility members may sponsor two (2) guests per day by purchasing daily passes ($7 each). Guests must be accompanied by the sponsor and have a valid ID on hand.

Quarter lockers found near the RSC Weight Room and changing rooms are available for day use and are cleared at closing.

Day use lockers are available for you to keep your items secure and off the floor. Bring your own lock and clear it daily. General use cubbies with no doors are also available at your own risk and are cleared daily.

Lockers are free to use; patrons must provide their own locks. Once a year they must be cleared. Signs are posted prior to cleanout.

Hit Fit

Mondays / 7:30 - 8:30 PM Release your everyday tensions in this upbeat class. You will utilize gloves, focus pads, and bags to learn the basics of kickboxing and mixed martial arts. No experience is necessary. Progress even further with our 2.0 class during second session.

Women on Weights Tuesdays / 5:00 - 6:00 PM (S1 Only) Wednesdays / 6:30 - 7:30 PM Not sure where to start in the weight room? Join this class designed for women. Learn how to properly perform strength exercises, what works best for the female body, as well as how to develop your own personal strength program. Progress even further with our 2.0 class during second session.

Women on Weights 2.0 Tuesdays / 5:00 - 6:00 PM (S2 Only) Need something more advanced? This course builds upon the skills learned in our Women on Weights class or the skills you already know. Master major lifts and understand how to improve your strength training in a fun and supportive environment.

Did you know that taking only 4 group fitness classes per week means you will reach the recommendations for exercise for the entire semester? Consider yourself challenged! The Bearkat Fitness Team invites you to increase your fitness this semester and earn prizes.

Priced starting at $1 per minute, it is a great way to team-build and do something different, all while getting fit. Schedule some stress relieving yoga for your staff members, bring your friends and try one of our black light cycling classes, or take out some aggression with a Hit Fit class. FACILITIES & RESERVATIONS

About our Facilities Recreational Sports is responsible for the management and general operation of nine recreational facilities across the SHSU campus. Each of our facilities is available for reservation and/or rental to the SHSU community. To learn more about reserving and/or renting any of our facilities, please visit recsports.shsu.edu (Facilities) to fill out the reservation request form.

University Camp University Camp is a one of a kind recreation and retreat facility that offers the university community an ever increasing range of facilities. Open for day and limited overnight use, it’s an ideal spot for a variety of functions. Meeting lodges, a dining hall, barbeque pits, a fishing pier, picnic areas and more are available.

Challenge Course Price Range [ $10 - $20 / Person ] The Challenge Course at University Camp offers a unique, multi-participant high ropes course and an expansive series of low elements all in a beautiful natural setting. With the help of our thoughtful and well-trained staff, the programs offered can be designed to meet any number of educational, developmental and recreational goals.

ACE Personal Trainer Prep Course February 1 - March 29 (no class Mar. 15) Wednesdays [ 3 - 5 PM ] Students: [ $75 ] Non-Students: [ $85 ] This course will provide you with the basic tools to be come a personal trainer as well as help to prepare you for the ACE Personal Trainer Examination. Fee includes: study materials, a 20% discount on books, $150 discount off the exam, practice exam, testing tips, and a complimentary fitness assessment. Participants are encouraged to apply to be a Rec Sports Personal Trainer at the conclusion of the course. Exam fee is not included. Register online at shsu.edu/fitness.

Aquatics

AQUATICS Jump in for a swim in our seasonally-heated pool. We have four 25-yard lap lanes and a leisure area which can be used for water volleyball, water basketball, intramural and special events. Additional amenities include a tanning area, lounge chairs and covered tables.

Private Swim Instruction Reach your swimming goals with tailored coaching from a certified Water Safety Instructor. Participants must be at least 16 years old. This American Red Cross training teaches the skills necessary to guard at an aquatic facility. Successful participants will receive CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguarding and First Aid Training certifications. Students must attend all classes in order to receive the certifications. Participants must complete the Lifeguarding Training Prerequisites on the first day of class.

Just want to get back into the swim of things? Get a great workout while improving your endurance and speed. This coached swim workout will challenge any level of swimmer. Whether you are looking to improve on your technique or expand your cardio this class is for you! You must be able to swim 25 yards (1 pool length) proficiently to participate. CLUB SPORTS The Club Sports Program consists of recognized student organizations that are established to promote common sport and recreation interests. Each club has been founded and maintained by volunteer student leaders. Club members are actively involved in the leadership and decision making process of club activities.

In September, Quidditch hosted their annual Breakfast Taco Tournament, hosting over 500 participants from 25 teams across the region.

Club Powerlifting competed in the Longhorn Invitational held in Austin on Nov. 19. Both the men’s and women’s teams won their division and each of their lifters placed either 1st or 2nd in their respective weight classes.

Men’s Rugby played SFA on October 1 at a neutral site in the Woodlands. They won handily, defeating the Lumberjacks 46-10.

09 Intramural Sports

INTRAMURAL SPORTS The Intramural Sports program provides you the opportunity to compete and have fun in various team and individual sports. Leagues and tournaments are organized into different skill levels so you can play against other participants with comparable abilities in a relaxed, recreational atmosphere. Flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, racquetball, golf, and tennis are just a few of the sports offered.

Become an Official Have fun officiating a variety of sports and pad your resumé with words like “quick decision making, problem solving, judgement, and leadership” by becoming an Intramural Official. The best officials will have the opportunity to referee regional and national tournaments held throughout the year.
