brother LM, P. Colin contributed to the legacy of this family through his own hard work and determination, as he took pride in his job as a young boy delivering newspapers. And that work ethic, instilled in him by his parents, was an enduring hallmark of his professional
P. Colin was an astute person that very early on in his life recognised the invaluable lessons that were to be learnt from the life and experiences of his elders, and accordingly he always had a special relationship with these individuals in his life. From the nightly delivery of meals to his Uncle Harry, which earned him a consistent twopence (known as tuppence); to the constant sitting at the feet of his grandfather, Caleb Gibson who was referred to as ‘Dadda’, to learn of his experiences including his relationships with Marcus Garvey; to the lifelong bond with his Uncle Will that started with his cleaning up after the regular haircuts, P. Colin remained a student of his elders, absorbing all the knowledge and experience that he could, including the mischievous
P. Colin was as much the academic as he was the
on street smarts, P. Colin also had unbreakable friendships with peers in the community, including a particular quintet of friends, and his swimming mates.
These friendships, and the lifelong bond with his older brother LM, were forged and strengthened through all of the activities that these young boys would get up to, including all of the traditional trouble and mischief that boys are known for. Some of these activities had life defining moments, such as a near drowning during one (1) of the swimming escapades over to Hog Island (now Paradise Island) as P. Colin got caught in the current of a blue hole and had to be pulled to safety by his brother and dear friends. As opposed to this experience leading to a fear of the seas, it led to a love of, and more importantly respect for, the seas. This love and respect influenced the life of P. Colin, as: he believed that every Bahamian should
language leading to his determination to be fluent in order to garner the attention and affection of this teacher; and that relationship survived, albeit platonically, their lifetimes and led to his love of the language.
P. Colin graduated high school and immediately commenced apprenticing in land surveying with Norman Aranha and Leonard Chee-A-Tow, becoming a qualified land surveyor with the firm, Aranha & Chee-A-Tow. The brothers, P. Colin and LM, continued their bond into professional careers, and unbeknownst to most, they complemented one another as where one may have been weaker the other was strong, and vice versa. His career as a land surveyor provided P. Colin the priceless opportunity to travel the complete archipelago of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas (The Bahamas) and contribute to national development through his role in the infrastructure development
P. Colin was proud of his contributions to infrastructure development in The Bahamas, and affectionately would recall his role in the construction of the original bridge to Paradise Island, and the Pilot House Hotel and adjoining property development. He was especially proud of his role, both as land surveyor and subcontractor, of the building of the compound of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (known more commonly known as ZNS) on Harcourt (Rusty) Bethel Drive. He held a special fondness for this compound and the role that ZNS was to play in national development, and this led to new friendships with various well-known journalists that began their careers with ZNS.
Upon recognising that the tourism transportation business of his father Bowetie required support, P. Colin joined what became the family business, which went through various name
going to the graves with all involved. In addition to joining the business, P. Colin became an active and vocal member of the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union, following in the footsteps of his father. Although a challenging business, physically and financially, the Bowe men took pride in participating in the number one (1) industry in The Bahamas, tourism, and P. Colin particularly cherished the interactions with international guests as it provided him the opportunity to practice different languages and to expand his knowledge of the global environment. These interactions too led to friendships with persons from around the world. P. Colin continued in the transportation business and tourism almost literally until, as the saying goes, “the wheels fell off”.
Always the student, P. Colin was passionate about the politics of The Bahamas and participated in the process albeit largely in the shadows, as he supported the efforts of his father Bowetie and his adored Uncle Will, both soldiers for advancement of political equity in The Bahamas. The closest P. Colin got to frontline politics however, was as a master of ceremonies at political rallies, but he had strong relationships with those brave men that stood on the frontline and offered his support in all areas where he could make a positive contribution. If nothing else, P. Colin was a patriot of his beloved Bahamaland, so much so that he was often teased that
he was not willing to leave its shores for longer than a few days when he travelled internationally.
The interests of P. Colin were wide and varied. His love for foreign languages, in particular Spanish, was well known and following his studies in high school he continued to develop his linguistic skills through sitting on the docks of incoming cruise ships and conversing with the crew, who often came from Cuba and the Dominican Republic. And he continued his love for Spanish by requesting his close friends and family that he knew were visiting Cuba to bring him copies of the local newspaper, Granma. While Spanish was always his focus, P. Colin also became fluent in Haitian Creole, as a result of his days in land surveying and construction and while non-Creole speakers may not have understood what was being said, his animation left very little doubt as to what he was saying when giving instructions or critiquing the work done. Additionally, he thoroughly enjoyed his times around the horses at the Hobby Horse Hall Race Track, which he tenderly reflected on when reminiscing.
deck just as long as those utilising the oxygen tank apparatuses. This interest of his led to him meeting his future bride.
While a tough talking character, P. Colin had a love for animals, in particular dogs. This love led to him getting a full breed German Shepherd puppy, the famous Nero, that was treated like one (1) of his children. Upon arrival at the airport, all papers were not deemed in order for Nero, but P. Colin in his typical dominant style, not so politely advised the authorities that the puppy was leaving with him and they would have to send the Prime Minister of the day to his home to collect it if they could not figure out the paperwork; the rest is history. Nero was trained by the K-9 unit of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, and friends of Colin vividly recall this dog travelling with him in the tour buses, being walked by his son who was smaller than Nero, and mischievously being instructed to hold friends at bay just for P. Colin’s own entertainment.
From a personal perspective, P. Colin fathered five (5) children, comprising four (4) sons, Scott W.D., P. Stephen L., Erik A.R, and Gowon N.G. Bowe; and
point of virtually behaving like he was the only person with any input, albeit warmly and using his charm to influence the final choices. In addition to his children, P. Colin gladly played the role of mentor, father figure and big brother to many of his baby siblings, nieces and nephews, and younger cousins.
Following the destined encounter during scuba diving in 1969 and years of courtship, P. Colin married Pamela E. Bowe, nee Watts, a teacher from England, the United Kingdom who came to The Bahamas and once getting sand in her shoes and meeting the love of her life, became a full blown citizen and productive member of The Bahamas. There were few, if any, nieces, nephews and cousins of P. Colin that did not receive tutoring in some form or other from ‘Auntie Pam.’ The union produced Gowon and Nadya.
Although one that showed very little emotion, P. Colin softened as he aged and adoringly inquired about his grandchildren, and always implored his children to provide him pictures of them for him to reflect on. He was heartened each and every time he was apprised of the developmental activities of his grandchildren, and looked forward to any opportunity to spend time with them, notwithstanding distance proving challenging.
For P. Colin, he always considered himself to be invincible, and struggled at times with aging and the reduction in physical strength. However, he compensated for this by ensuring that his mental strength did not diminish and he would read daily – books, newspapers and practically any written material about the history of nations. He was especially pleased and beamed with pride when members of his family were captured in the media, locally or internationally, and would fondly make an outreach to let the respective parties know that he had seen them. Additionally, he comfortably became the sage of the family, a role he shared true to form in part with his brother LM, often schooling his
children, family, friends and general acquaintances on all that was The Bahamas and its politics, international history and general life lessons. When answering a telephone call from P. Colin, the receiving party had best be prepared for at least thirty (30) minutes, and given the state of his ‘bubbler’ in recent years, it is anyone’s guess how the mobile phone lasted that long.
As the hands of time passed, P. Colin was the beneficiary of the tender loving care of his baby sister, Antoinette ‘Toni’ Bowe and her family, particularly his nephew Sidney Sawyer II, as he moved back to the family homestead. It was especially interesting to observe the cycle of life, as P. Colin fulfilled the role his mother once had in the neighbourhood – sitting on the porch of the homestead and not missing a single happening in “the road”.
P. Colin would use this time on the porch to reminisce and as he reflected on his full life of ups and downs, saint and sinner, development and sheer mischief, he always put his faith in his Lord and Saviour and as long as health permitted, would worship at his revered St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. As he would say, his birth was recorded in “the book” of St. Matthew’s and now fittingly, so will his passing. He would also counsel his loved ones to pause, and take the time to enjoy time with family and friends, and expressed great concern when he believed that this was not happening.
He was a giant among the masses, both in physical size and presence, and he will missed by all who knew him.
May his soul rest in peace.

ORDER OF SERVICE
RECEPTION OF THE CREMAINS
The Celebrant meets the body and says: With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the Cremains of our brother Colin for burial. Our brother Colin was washed in Holy Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore, with confidence, pray to God our Heavenly Father, the Giver of Life, that He will raise him to perfection in the company of the Saints.
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
Congregation: And also with you.
Celebrant: Let us pray.
O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our brother Colin. We thank you for giving him to us, his family and friends, to know and love as a companion on his earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The following sentences are read:
Jesus said, I am the resurrection, and I am the life. He who believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and who ever lives and believes in me shall never die. (John 11:25-26)
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His compassion never fails; every morning they are renewed. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Jesus said, let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1)
I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Roman 8:38-39)
If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s for to this end Christ died and lived again. That he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. (Romans 14:8-9)
We brought nothing into the world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21)
The eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27)

Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave, Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea!
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard And hushed their raging at Thy Word, Who walked upon the foaming deep, And calm amidst its rage didst sleep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea!
Celebrant: Let us pray.
Most
Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude, And bid its angry tumult cease, And give, for wild confusion, peace; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power! Our family shield in danger’s hour; From rock and tempest, fire and foe, Protect us wheresoe’er we go; Thus evermore shall rise to Thee Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
Almighty God, we remember before you today your servant Colin and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of larger life you will receive him more and more into your joyful service that, with all who have served you in the past, he may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord; Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
Congregation: Amen.
The congregation sits for the Liturgy of the Word.

READER: THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON | Wisdom 3:1-5,9 | Sidney Sawyer III (Grandnephew)
But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself. Those who trust in Him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with Him in love, because grace and mercy are upon His holy ones, and He watches over His elect.

HYMN | Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not, as thou hast been thou for ever wilt be.
Refrain:
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness; morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above, join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. [Refrain]
Pardon for sin, and a peace that endureth, thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! [Refrain]
| Patrick Colin Bowe 10 HYMN | Eternal Father Strong To Save
READER: THE NEW TESTAMENT LESSON | Barton L. Callender (Surrogate Son)
I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “Sir, you are the one that knows.” Then he said to me, “These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship Him day and night within His temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and He will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed:
Refrain
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: How great thou art! How great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: How great thou art! How great thou art!
And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art!
THE HOLY GOSPEL
-THE SERMON-
At the conclusion of the sermon, the congregation stands, and is led in the Nicene Creed
Celebrant: Let us with confidence and hope confess the faith, into which we were baptised, as we say, Congregation: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Patrick Colin Bowe | 13
On the night that He was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to his disciples and said: “Take this, and eat it; this is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
And after supper He took the cup of wine, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: “Drink this, all of you; This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Celebrant: Therefore, Father, according to the command of your dearly beloved Son Congregation: We remember His death. We proclaim His resurrection. We await His coming in glory.
Celebrant: And we offer you, Father, our sacrifice of thanks and praise. Send your Holy Spirit on these gifts of bread and wine that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son, Jesus, our Lord and Redeemer. COMMUNION HYMN
And Now, O Father, Mindful Of The Love
And now, O Father, mindful of the love that bought us, once for all, on Calvary’s tree, and having with us him that pleads above, we here present, we here spread forth to thee that only offering perfect in thine eyes, the only true, pure, immortal sacrifice.
Look, Father, look on his anointed face, and only look on us as found in him; look not on our misusings of thy grace, our prayer so languid, and our faith so dim; for lo! Between our sins and their reward we set the passion of thy Son our Lord.
And then for those, our dearest and our best, by this prevailing presence we appeal; O fold them closer to thy mercy’s breast, O do thine utmost for their souls’ true weal; from tainting mischief keep them white and clear, and crown thy gifts with strength to persevere.
Lord, enthroned in heavenly splendour, first-begotten from the dead. thou alone, our strong defender, liftest up thy people’s head. Alleluia! alleluia, Jesu, true and living bread.
Here our humblest homage pay we, here in loving reverence bow; here for faith’s discernment pray we, lest we fail to know thee now, Alleluia! alleluia, thou art here, we ask not how.
Paschal Lamb, thine offering, finished once for all when thou wast slain, in its fullness undiminished shall for evermore remain, alleluia, alleluia, cleansing souls from every stain.
Life-imparting heavenly Manna, stricken Rock with streaming side, heaven and earth with loud hosanna worship thee, the Lamb who died, alleluia, alleluia, risen, ascended, glorified
COMMUNION HYMN
Here, O My Lord, I See Thee Face To Face
Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face; here faith would touch and handle things unseen; here grasp with firmer hand the eternal grace, and all my weariness upon thee lean.
Here would I feed upon the bread of God; here drink with thee the royal wine of heaven; here would I lay aside each earthly load; here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven.
I have no help but thine; nor do I need another arm save thine to lean upon: it is enough, my Lord, enough indeed; my strength is in thy might, thy might alone.
COMMUNION HYMN
O Thou, Who At Thy Eucharist Didst Pray
O THOU, Who at Thy Eucharist didst pray That all Thy Church might be for ever one, Grant us at every Eucharist to say With longing heart and soul, “Thy will be done.” Oh, may we all one Bread, one Body be, Through this blest Sacrament of Unity.
For all Thy Church, O Lord, we intercede; Make Thou our sad divisions soon to cease; Draw us the nearer each to each, we plead, By drawing all to Thee, O Prince of peace; Thus may we all one Bread, one Body be, Through this blest Sacrament of Unity.
We pray Thee too for wanderers from Thy Fold; O bring them back, Good Shepherd of the sheep, Back to the Faith which Saints believed of old, Back to the Church which still that Faith doth keep; Soon may we all one Bread, one Body be, Through this blest Sacrament of Unity.
So, Lord, at length when Sacraments shall cease, May we be one with all thy Church above, One with Thy Saints in one unbroken peace, One with Thy Saints in one unbounded love: More blessèd still, in peace and love to be One with the Trinity in Unity.

Congregation: Almighty God, we thank you that in Your great love You have fed us with the spiritual food and drink of the Body and Blood of Your Son Jesus Christ, and have given us a foretaste of Your heavenly banquet. Grant that this Sacrament may be to us a comfort in affliction, and a pledge of our inheritance in that kingdom, where there is no death, neither sorrow nor crying, but the fullness of joy with your saints; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen
POST COMMUNION HYMN | It Is Finished
There’s a line that is drawn through the ages
On that line stands that old rugged cross
On that cross a battle is raging
For the gain of a man’s soul or it’s loss
Refrain:
It is finished, the battle is over
It is finished, there’ll be no more war
It is finished, the end of the conflict
It is finished, and Jesus is Lord
On one side, march the forces of evil
All the demons and all the devils of hell
On the other the angels of glory
And they meet on Golgotha’s hill. Refrain:
The earth shakes with the force of the conflict
And the sun refuses to shine
There hangs God’s son in the balance
And then through the darkness he cries. Refrain
The entire congregation including the bereaved family is asked to stand for The Commendation.
-THE COMMENDATION-

Congregation: The Saviour and Redeemer of mankind.
Celebrant: Blessed be the Holy Spirit.
Congregation: The Enabler and Sustainer of those who seek for grace.
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
Congregation: And also with you.
Celebrant: Grant us, Lord, the wisdom and the grace to use aright the time that is left to us here on earth. Lead us to repent of our sins. The evil we have done and the good we have failed to do; and strengthen us to follow the steps of your son, in the way that leads to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Congregation: Amen.
Celebrant: Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints.
Congregation: Where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.
Celebrant: You only are immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so did You ordain when You created me, saying, you are dust, and to dust you shall return. All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Congregation: Give rest, O Christ, to Your servant with Your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.
| Patrick Colin Bowe 16 -POST COMMUNION PRAYER-
The Celebrant facing the Cremains says: Let us commend our brother Colin to the mercy of God our Maker and Redeemer. Deliver Your servant Colin, O Sovereign Lord Christ, from all evil, and set him free from every bond, that he may rest with all Your saints in the eternal habitations; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit You live and reign, one God forever and ever.
Congregation: Amen.
Celebrant: Into Your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Colin. Acknowledge; we humbly beseech You, a sheep of Your own fold, a lamb of Your own flock, a sinner of Your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of Your mercy, in the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light.
Congregation: Amen.
Celebrant: Let us go forth in the name of Christ.
Congregation: Thanks be to God.
RECESSIONAL HYMN | In the Resurrection Morning
In the resurrection morning, When the trump of God shall sound, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! Then the saints will come rejoicing And no tears will e’er be found, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise.
Refrain
We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! Amen! We shall rise! Hallelujah! In the resurrection morning, When death’s prison bars are broken, We shall rise, Hallelujah! We shall rise.
In the resurrection morning, What a meeting it will be, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! When our fathers and our mothers, And our loved ones we shall see, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! [Refrain]
In the resurrection morning, Blessèd thought it is to me, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! I shall see my blessèd Savior, Who so freely died for me, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! [Refrain]
In the resurrection morning, We shall meet Him in the air, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! And be carried up to glory, To our home so bright and fair, We shall rise, Hallelujah! we shall rise! [Refrain]
As the Cremains are borne from the church, the following verses are said:
Christ is raised from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tomb.
The Son of Righteousness is gloriously risen, giving light to those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death.
The Lord will guide our feet into the way of peace, having taken away the sin of the world.
Christ will open the kingdom of heaven to all who believe in His name, saying, Come, O blessed of My Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you.
Into paradise may the angels lead you! At your coming may the Martyrs receive you, and bring you into the Holy City, Jerusalem.
