Crop Top: How did it become one of our favorite pieces of clothing? If we look at our closet, we can assure that almost all of us have one - or several - of these. And how not to do it? Although it is a controversial garment that has been generating conversation for years, it is also one of the essential basics to turn any outfit into an unforgettable look. In addition, their versatility keeps us delighted: we can get them in all styles; long sleeves, short sleeves, strips and all the colors that we can imagine. But… how did this garment become so iconic that now we cannot imagine our closet without at least one of them? Let’s start at the beginning, although the Crop Top has become a very popular garment since the mid-2010s, its origin dates back to the 1940s, just two decades after the creation of the “Little Black Dress”. Although today it is very common to see several girls wearing a crop top in the streets, in 1945 it was quite a scandal. Don’t you believe us? You can ask Elise White: the woman who was fined in New York for wearing a crop top without being near a swimming spot (the only valid excuse to wear a crop top back then). That is the first trace of this garment in history. Sure, they were still conservative years where women’s clothing was governed by the precepts of morality, good customs and - let’s not lie to ourselves - the male gaze. Daring to wear a top that exposed the navel was something that just wasn’t socially cool, for now. As times changed and great fashion icons adopted this trend honorable mention to our dearest Marilyn Monroe - society began to calm down regarding the female body and slightly shorter garments. It was about time! Don’t you think?

But the true heyday of the crop top only came in the 80s - almost 90s - and it was not so far removed from the conservative vision of New York in the 50’s: it was a garment widely used in sports. Yessss! On the sport. Of course, we cannot deny that there are many fashionista outfits with a sporty theme, and the 80s represented it very well. Great moments in pop culture were marked by this use of the crop top: movies and series adopted it as part of their costume design - Fame, Flashdance, the Prince of Rap and even the famous actor Johnny Depp - and great music icons pop like Madonna and Sporty Spice made it a frequent part of their outfits. It is the time of his return. We are no longer the women of the 1940s who could be fined just for dressing the way they wanted to, nor are we the women of the 80s who did, however they still had some misgivings. We are the women who wear the crop top because they own their body, their autonomy and who dare to look sensual, feminine and romantic without thinking about what they will say. That is why it seemed so important to us to tell you this story that today belongs to all of us.

By Leslie de Rosas IN OR OUT

In or out: these are the best and worst looks of our favorite celebs Who among us hasn’t tried to replicate at least one of our favorite celeb looks? And there are some of them whose style goes beyond the screen, stages and catwalks. The problem is when our favorite stars prefer to leave the style aside and have given us perhaps some of the worst outfits of all. Here are some looks that will make you say “yay or nay”. OUT

13

IN THE BEST LOOKS FROM YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS!

IN OR OUT? : IN

...

Taylor Swift: Our Fearless girl is one of the singers with the best style when it comes to going out for a walk through the streets of a city. Her romantic style, with touches of elegance, simplicity and that characteristic red lipstick offers us dreamy looks, which convey sweetness. The clear example that less is more. In the photo we can see her wearing a loose floral dress, very ad hoc for hot seasons, which she accentuated with high velvet boots with embedded details on the heels; joining two garments of heat and cold and creating a look that without a doubt, many of us already want to replicate! As a final touch, she pulled out a burgundy chain bag that she accessorized.

Dua Lipa: Dua Lipa is one of the singers of the moment, not for nothing apart from the stage, she has also been on the catwalks of Versace and has been the muse of Mugler (the brand that made one of the looks that accompany her on her world tour ) Her style transcends all this, and she is one of those who have known how to make a name for herself among the tops of the best street style looks. In this photo, the “Don’t Start Now” singer wears a perfect outfit for cold seasons, but very chic. With a pink furry crop sweater from the GCDS brand, accompanied by black belted mom jeans and black military-style boots. As accessories, she added a small green bag, black glasses as well as silver rings and earrings.

...

...

Gigi Hadid: One of our favorite models knows how to look incredible on and off the catwalks and we have seen her wearing incredible outfits countless times, and this was not for less, because her style is something that has been in her blood since her mother Yolanda Hadid and her sister Bella Hadid. I could describe hundreds of outfits on her, but this time she decided on one that adapts to the hot season and that can be replicated in a very simple way. In the photograph we can see the model wearing a short peasant-style top with long sleeves with transparencies and ruffles, straight-cut jeans in a light tone; added some orange stiletto shoes with crossed bracelets. She used gold earrings and a yellow bag as accessories.

14

IN OR OUT? OUT

Miley Cyrus: Miley Cyrus is perhaps one of the singers who has given us the best looks when she is on stage, and her fresh, youthful and grunge style is very well defined when she is not giving a show. This time she was the exception when she was caught after leaving a TV show in this look, which makes us wonder what went through our favorite singer’s head when choosing this outfit.

...

She wears bunny ears, with a green, red, and yellow sweatshirt with a bunny figure on the front, she added metallic pink shorts and sneakers. Miley, you are so much more than this look!

...

Justin Bieber: JB has shown on different occasions that he is not very concerned about what people will say about how he looks off stage, today we can say that we are fans of his songs but not so much of his style when it comes to going out. Here we can see Justin Bieber wearing a beige denim jacket with a gray round neck tank top, gray and red plaid pants that remind us a lot of pajamas, sandals and white socks. Possibly this is one of the most careless looks of the singer.

Nicki Minaj: The singer Nicki Minaj is distinguished by her extravagance when it comes to dressing, and of course, the pink color in everything she wears. Unfortunately, this time she completely messed up her outfit, adding too many elements that could be too much in the eyes of some else. In the photograph we can see her look when leaving the airport. Composed of leggings with a star print, a white blouse with a teddy bear figure in the center and a green pleated edge with a dot print, plus black sunglasses. Too much, don’t you think?

INTERVIEW

LESLIE CRUZ A COURAGEOUS, PERSEVERING AND DETERMINED MODEL

By Sara Quiroz Leslie Cruz is a young Mexican model who loves her profession. She has worked for well-known brands and has appeared on the pages of magazines such as Grazia MX, Marie Claire Mexico and Elle Mexico. Thanks to her career, which has had ups and downs, she learned to be brave and persistent to achieve her goals and fulfill her dreams. Leslie knows herself and knows where she’s going. We talked with Leslie about her career and her goals.

16

LESLIE Describe yourself in five words. Brave, loyal, empathetic, funny and with determination. What is your philosophy of life? “First human, before model”. What do you think makes you different from others? Physically, my features. That I am super mexa and I don’t look like one until I open my mouth haha, I always show myself as I am. Plus, I think we’re all different and we shine in what we’re good at and in what we love to do. What do you like the most about yourself ? What makes you proud of yourself ? That I’m brave and risky. I am proud to persist and I didn´t allow that my fears y failures stopped me oft trusting in myself. Did you always want to be a model? When did you know you wanted to do this? I always wanted to be. I tried to do it, in my first session I was highly praised and motivated, that was the moment I really made it happen. I knew that I wanted to do modeling when I started to believe that I was good at it, that I actually was enjoy modeling and that I didn’t see it as a job. It’s hard to find your Avila con 26 años, en su faceta de actriz vocation and really like what you do. At first it wasn’t easy, then things got better.

aún tiene mucho camino por recorrer, cuando le preguntamos si le gustaría apaWhen did you know it was real? recer en when una película nos contestó When I saw myself in my first magazine and read my name in the credits, also I received my firstmuy animada “¡por supuesto que sí!”

payment. I realized I was working on something I like and fulfilling dreams that were “absurd” according to some people. The feeling that you are achieving your goals it’s indescribable

Tell us about your process to become a model. Pfff, I wanted give up so many times. For many people, to say “I want to be a model” is a joke, it’s cruel to make fun of other people’s dreams. I started at the age of 18 doing local things in my city, Veracruz, and for five to six years I collaborated with designers from the region, sometimes working with very low budgets or with calls of many hours. Just two years ago I took the courage to do it professionally, I came to Mexico City with the first agency that trusted me, I did my first national campaign and that work connected me with people in the industry. I kept working a lot and because of problems with that agency I changed to the current one, it is one of the best decisions of my life.

17

How do you take care of your health in this industry? At first I didn’t take care of myself, then circumstances forced me to do it. Now I exercise, I am in a diet and I take more care of my skin, although I don’t do any of those things in an exaggerated way. In your modeling career, what has been the most memorable and satisfying experience you’ve ever had? Do you remember any bad moment? It’s very satisfying to be in a production where you don’t know the team, but they admire you and your work. I have many bad experiences, one unpleasant was to go to a call where I was mistaken for the maid; that did not offend me, what bothered me was the mistreatment. What do you think of the fashion industry in Latin America? How do you see it in the future? It is undervalued, it is not the same to do fashion in Mexico as abroad. It is wrong that someone gets bothered because of the cost of a Mexican designer’s work, the paument of a photographer or producer, or the hourly budget of a model; but accept without doubt the same price outside the country. It is an extensive and controversial subject. What was the concept you worked with that you liked the most? Which other would you try? I like and I consider that I am better at editorial work, when they ask for strong poses and imposing attitude, or when the brand risks and make me pose in the air with harnesses or jumpers, I like the complicated when the results are worth it. I want to try something that is also editorial, but with more artistic tints or underwater.

What else would you do and why? Psychology, I’m interested in the idea of studying the human mind. What does fashion mean to you? It is a wrapper that defines us and helps us to express ourselves, is to want to reflect your personality in clothes. What do you think is the most important thing in your profession? Be sure of yourself because if you are not you reflect it in the camera. In addition, it is important to know your body and your best angles, and understand what the client asks you to interpret. Bad comments will always exist, not everyone will love you and you must learn not to be affected by it. What do you like most about modeling? Stand in front of a camera and blank my mind, forget the worries of the moment and just concentrate on making it excellent. Also the fact of having met people from the industry, all talking about what we are passionate about. Are there times in your career you’ve thought about leaving it? Many. When I miss my family, when tpeople make bad comments about me, when things get complicated.

IT GIRL TAYO I S H O L A : L E A D I N G W I T H LO V E AND PURPOSE: THE PILLAR IN THE LIFE OF TAYO I S H O L A By Noemí Hernández

An intimate conversation with the social entrepreneur and designer behind Eido Swimwear and the Wonder Woman initiative. For the April issue, SDMAG traveled to Miami to interview Tayo Ishola, Creative Director and Social Entrepreneur. The designer began a career as a model in Lagos, Nigeria, and with that step she ventured into the world of fashion and beauty, which has led her to develop multiple projects where fashion and people’s well-being are pillars.

COVER

WRITTEN BY NOEMÍ HERNÁDEZ

TAYO ISHOLA

Desde México hasta SDMAG

After gaining experience as a swimwear model in Miami, she started her Eido Swimwear brand in 2015, whose suits “are designed for the woman who is inherently aware of who she is.” Its mission is to enhance women through its colorful and daring designs. The designer intends that the suits enliven the power and strength that each one carries within. 21

After hosting “My Beauty and Fashion TV’’ and modeling at New York Fashion Week, DC Fashion Week, and Mercedes Benz Swim Week in Miami, Tayo decided to start the Wonder Woman Initiative. This altruistic project brings together the solidarity and love that guide the life of the entrepreneur; through events, training and subsidies, it helps small business women to develop their potential beyond the difficulties they face in their lives. With regard to her many projects, I spoke with Tayo on a more personal level to find out what makes her resilient, proactive and committed to the development of those around her, as well as what goals she hopes to achieve soon. 22

COVER GIRL Tayo, what motivates you to work for yourself as well as to improve the lives of other women? The culmination of my life’s experiences and journeys is what motivates me to work for myself and other women every day. People are not built in isolation, and I have received so much help on my journey, so this compels me to serve others in whatever capacity I can. . You have managed to use fashion as a means of expression, of empowerment and to work with other women, have you recently doubted your ability to work on all these things?

For you, love and having a purpose are key to leading. How do you put those principles into practice every day?

Doubt is part of the growth process, and before any major steps of faith are taken, doubt shows up to test your convictions. My ability to remain creative is powered by faith, and despite the suggestions of doubt that creep in, I can look back at the stories of victory that I have encountered and keep it moving.

I believe love is the greatest force, and it is the pulse of all creation. I realized that love and having a purpose are key ingredients for leadership when I started to recognize a pattern of hatred in the world that preceded issues of aggression, racism, terrorism and war. I let love rule over my mind in the decisions I make on a daily basis. Not love as an emotion that is often portrayed in mass media, but love as the quality of foundational principles that guide individuals to a place of peace that isn’t dependent on materialism.

The mission of your brand Eido Swimwear is “to stir up and enliven the power within the woman, to reinforce it, and to make it apparent”, how do you manage to materialize the mission in your designs?

I

represent intrinsic power in my designs by being consistent with structures and patterns that stand out gracefully. When a woman knows who she is deeply, she pulls her confidence from that ‘knowing’, and I create with the intention to physically amplify the quality of her confident state of being. I also love to use bold colors, because it takes confidence to wear them. The designs (of Eido Swimwear) are vibrant and embrace the diversity of the human body, what does this mean to you? The human race is beautifully diverse. I grew up immersed in rich culture and diversity, and these are the lenses through which I have viewed the world. It therefore is my natural inclination to create with diversity in mind. 24

Your Wonder Woman initiative supports and makes visible the talent, strength and intelligence of women. What are the challenges in seeking synergy with other people? The challenges are minor next to the victories, because women are ready for greatness. The challenges I have faced in seeking synergy with other people have been mission/vision related. Sometimes, people get distracted by the noise of self-gratification and forget that this is a collective journey. Other times, the pain that they have experienced in the past impedes their ability to approach a new mission without defensiveness or resistance. That being said, we are all learning on this journey and hopefully even the storms bring us the transformation we seek.

TAYO What advice can you give to those women who are going through adversity situations and don’t know how to face them? The realization that what they are going through is difficult is the first place to begin. The limitations of our humanity by design requires that we seek help for our areas of difficulty or weakness. I want them to know they don’t have to face it alone, and that they should be willing to seek the help they need. I also believe that faith and Hope are catalysts for miracles, so I want them to believe that these times too shall pass.

30

YOU HELP WOMEN TO RECOGNIZE THEIR POTENTIAL, IN THIS WAY THEY ACHIEVE GREAT RESULTS. HOW IMPORTANT ARE PARTNERSHIPS TO YOU? Partnerships can make or break us. The right partnerships amplify the strengths of all involved, and the wrong partnerships are catalysts for weak decisions and actions. Partnerships have the potential to lead us to or away from our destinies, and I believe it is important to discern synergy and choose wisely.

... It’s clear that you work to recognize and promote the talent of other people, can you tell me about your future projects? The Wonder Woman Initiative has an amazing show planned for Miami Swim Week this year. We will be honoring female leaders and showcasing female-led brands, with the theme for this year focusing on the power of mental transformation. The show will be held on July 16th at the Kimpton Angler’s Hotel in South Beach.

Regarding the power of mental transformation, what relationship do you think exists between it and the success of a project? The execution of successful projects rarely happens without the surmounting of challenges. Positive mental transformation allows people to look beyond challenges and creatively find solutions that keep things afloat. Also, the ability to go beyond the limitations of subjective perception when creating impactful projects is preceded by mental transformation.

31

What do you hope to achieve in the future with Eido Swimwear, the Wonder Woman Initiative and your talent agency? I hope to provide a pathway through which people can reconcile with their core purpose and thrive in life. I also intend to keep using each endeavor as vehicles for positive change in society. What lessons have your different projects taught you? Do you rescue any learning in particular? My different projects have taught me the power of preparedness. Sometimes, our good intentions are not enough if we are inadequately informed about how to thrive through the mission we are embarking on. We have to be deeply clear about what motivates us, and we need to go forward with conviction and faith despite the challenges. “We have to be deeply clear about what motivates us, and we need to go forward with conviction and faith despite the challenges.”

32

What are you excited to accomplish with this? I love that these projects are tools for transformation and help address social problems in a non-traditional way. To finish: I know it’s important for you to have a purpose in life, do you have any advice for those who haven’t found it yet? Purpose is within everyone, and I believe we find it when we start to pay attention. My advice to someone who hasn’t yet found their purpose is to start seeking for the answers within. Our life’s journey beautifully tells a story of where we’re going, and as we pay attention to the patterns, we begin to see what role we ought to play. There is no doubt that Tayo Ishola found in fashion a way to develop her life purpose, while at the same time empowering other women and helping them exploit their potential through their own businesses. “Our life’s journey beautifully tells a story of where we’re going, and as we pay attention to the patterns, we begin to see what role we ought to play.” - Tayo Ishola 33

is the future of fashioin

CLOSER THAN we think? By LESLIE DE ROSAS Have you ever wondered if the fashion industry could have change or evolu-

tion? I tell you yes, it’s possible. We have already seen the first digital models, events within the Metaverse, creation of looks and special collections for video games and even digital fitting rooms, but don’t worry if you missed any of this, here I explain everything you need to know. THE MOVE TO DIGITAL HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVE BUT WITH FIRM STEPS THAT ANY FASHION LOVER WOULD FALL IN LOVE WITH AND THE BEST THING ABOUT ALL THIS IS THAT IN SOME WAY IT BECOMES SOMETHING MORE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC WHEN IT COMES TO BEING ABLE TO EXPERIENCE AND APPROACH TO THE SECTOR.

The possibility that the digital industry is a key piece for the permanence and popularity of fashion is enormous and that is where all the theories about how the fashionista sector will develop in this area lie, something that many of us cannot wait to witness. Video games are possibly one of the first fashion approaches to digital, turning their campaigns and collections into success stories. An example of this is the famous game League of Legends and its collaboration with Louis Vuitton where they created a capsule collection; Gucci alongside Roblox, where users could visit the Gucci Garden and learn about the brand’s vision. Balenciaga X Fortnite created a collection for the most famous characters and also launched the clothes for sale in physical format and Burberry in alliance with Honor Kings created two looks for one of the video game characters. 34

For is part ELLE Spain magazine in its April 2022

edition surprised us all with its first meta-beauty production using digital supermodels Shudu and Dagny. All this was possible with the help of the first digital modeling agency “The Diigitals”, finally, the make-up was in charge of the make-up artist José Belmonte who was in charge of making the make-up sketches for each of the protagonists. Finally, the reason why we are here and why the debate begins is the celebration of the

Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW),

which took place from March 24 to 27, since more than 60 brands came together to exhibit collections to Decentraland users for free as long as they have a registered account. Brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci,

Estèe Lauder, PUMA, Forever 21, Tommy Hilfiger, Etro, Dundas, Hugo Boss, Philipp Plein, Hogan and Balenciaga, just to mention a few, were presented there. When Mark Zuckerberg presented the

Metaverse, we were still not very clear about the

magnitudes to which it could reach, but the surprise of its importance was such that fashion has been relying on it, already having some plots with brands such as Adidas, Nike, H&M, Zara and Mango.

During the MVFW we could see how fashion and retail firms presented exclusive collections for the Metaverse and even debuted in the NFT’S market such as Mango, which launched 3 works of art inspired by the brand’s garments, “Mango Metagirl”, “Mango Ad Astra” and “Hanna in the Clouds” in collaboration with artist Farkas. Zara did the same and during its stay at the Metaverse Fashion Week, it opened a space that served as a fitting room, where users could take their avatar to try on the different garments to choose which one would look best on them. Other brands with stands at Decentraland were Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Cavalli, Jacob & Co and Dolce & Gabbana. In which, in addition to offering virtual clothing, they also allowed some of the garments presented to be purchased in their physical format. The move of the fashion industry to the digital age is a reflection of what is in store for its future, and it is that the clothes presented in this format are obtaining great success, allowing them to approach a new target and therefore new buyers. Fact that will only increase its importance and popularity.

Solidity and freshness is something that the sector had been looking for during this time and today it is finally having it in a new branch. Although much remains to be seen, the work that they are doing and that they are presenting is causing great surprise. I can only reiterate that we cannot wait to see the surprises that each fashion house prepares for us. 35

:

ADRIANA MARTÍ Meet the talent who captures her passions and ideals in fashion photography By Noemí Hernández For this edition, SDMAG traveled to Spain to talk with Adriana Marti, a fashion photographer whose work stands out for taking risks when capturing an image. She always tries to experiment different perspectives, so that her photos impact whoever sees them. She currently lives in Madrid and focuses on always highlighting the effort, talent, and passion that she and her colleagues put into the fashion industry of the European country. Adriana’s interest in photography arose when she was little. His father, she remembers, used to always take an analog camera to all his trips and family events. That context influenced her passion for capturing moments professionally. She defines herself as a “freelance photographer dedicated mainly to fashion photography” because in this area she found a way to combine her passions as well as her ethical principles. One of her achievements is having photographed the dresses of Emilio Salinas, a famous designer whose atelier is in charge of materializing the dreams of some Spanish actresses, who trust him to stand out on red carpets. Regarding this session, I spoke with the photographer to find out how she experienced this collaboration, as well as to learn 36 more about what motivates her to do her work.

Let’s start, tell me a little about yourself, who is Adriana Marti? How do you define yourself ? I am a photographer, or I try to be because I am visceral and I love what I do. My camera becomes an extension of my hand and so I begin to create. And even without a camera, I still have the viewfinder in my eye. Because I see photographs everywhere I look. And I demand a lot of myself, every day I want to take the best photographs, go beyond my comfort zone, photograph what has never been photographed, experiment, enjoy, get the best out of each scene, of each person, of me. Why did you decide to focus on fashion photography? I like working with fashion firms, especially sustainable fashion since I believe in a more ecological world without waste; more ethical fashion, supporting a design philosophy and sustainability trend, collaborating in some way to create a system that can be supported indefinitely in terms of environmentalism and social responsibility.

“I have been working mainly in this field for years. I think that in Spain there are many designers who are committed to more environmentally responsible fashion and there are very good firms that are benchmarking in the rest of the world.”

Marti likes to work with other Spanish creatives who, like her, strive to make their country a benchmark for fashion and design, as well as social and environmental responsibility. She believes in the potential of her compatriots and, from her area, she is in charge of highlighting the proposals of the designers, as well as the image of the models. To gain more professional experience, Adriana has been proactive in all aspects. Since the beginning of her career, she has tried to collaborate and work on various projects that represent challenges at a professional and personal level. Since she works as a freelancer, a lot is usually required for each of them to materialize a risky, innovative, and impressive proposal. Precisely because she works independently, her photographs have been published in magazines such as FADDY, KAZARJ, SHUBA, and GMARO, as well as in Vogue UK and Vogue Italia.

In addition, in her portfolio there are photos for brands such as CRUCA, CHARO AZCONA and Inés de la Calzada. She also portrayed Catwalk 17, the last parade of the 2021 edition of the Circular Sustainable Fashion Week in Madrid. True to her ideals and principles, Adriana has tried to collaborate with brands, magazines, and events that contribute to highlighting artisanal, ethical, sustainable, and responsible fashion. You have worked and collaborated for various fashion media, as well as festivals and fashion shows, what do you take away from these experiences? Working with different fashion media, as well as attending fashion shows and catwalks, has given me much more experience, freshness and has been and always is very rewarding because I like my job and I enjoy it a lot. From your perspective, how is the Spanish scene for those who are dedicated to fashion photography? The panorama in Spain, I imagine that the same will happen in another country, for photographers specializing in this field, I suppose it will be just as hard and difficult. You have to work hard and do your best because there are a lot of very good people and there is a lot of competition. This makes one have to try harder and try to be different from others. 37

“You have to work hard and do your best because there are a lot of very good people and there is a lot of competition.” Let’s talk about your photo session in Emilio Salinas’ atelier, how was your experience in this project? For me, working with Emilio Salinas these days in his atelier in Madrid, being able to photograph some of his dresses, has been a very positive experience because he is a very renowned designer since he has dressed many Spanish actresses for the Goya awards.

You had the opportunity to portray Ana Villar, what was it like working with her? Ana is a model with a lot of perspective, and a future journalist. It was a pleasure working with her on this session, as she is very disciplined and a great professional.

Salinas was the designer chosen by actress Rosy Rodríguez and make-up artist Sylvia Imbert in 2019 to dress them at the Goya awards ceremony, awarded by the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences. He is a very kind and downto-earth person and always makes you feel at home.

At a professional level, Marti assures that what she most enjoyed from this experience was collaborating with other Spanish talents, whom she considers professionals in their areas, as well as excellent people. For her, photographing designs made in her country, modeled by a compatriot, shows that fashion in Spain has the potential to stand out on a global level.

How do you see yourself in the long term? What’s coming for you? The truth is that I am full of ideas and projects, and I am confident that I can further develop my work, despite the fact that we are living in very complicated and difficult times, that we are coming from a pandemic that is changing our lives. Moreover, we live in troubled times due to the Russia-Ukraine war, which I trust will end soon and we will return to normality, if possible. Undoubtedly, Adriana Marti enjoys her profession, as it fills her with pride both for the images she captures and for the possibility of living with other creative colleagues. It is interesting to know her perspective of the industry in which she works professionally: the way she expresses herself about her work is a reflection of the passion she feels when doing it.

DON’T GIVE ANY FALSE STEPS: NEW SEASON, NEW TRENDS By Renata González

Meet these shoe designers and give an upgrade to your outfits during this 2022 spring-summer season with their proposal. 40

While we are at this time of the year, the only thing we can think about is enjoying the hot weather as much as we can; feeling fresh and relaxed during hot days can be hard sometimes but the perfect outfit can make the difference in how we feel besides of how we look. These three brands renew summer footwear while reinventing the typical trends of the season.

TRENDS Western Affair There’s nothing hotter than the desert weather and summer love affairs. That’s why this English brand reinvents the season diamond: the mules, and makes a unique fusion with the cowboy style that has taken over the last few seasons. Olivia Pudelko, creative director of Western Affair, gets inspired from the early 2000´s, and between vintage patterns, bridal footwear from the 2K´s, textures and vibrant colors, she creates dreamy shoes that would make you feel you’re the main character of a chic western film. PICTURE OF THE BRAND WESTERN AFFAIR

About the founder: Olivia graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the University of Westminster. “I was always very interested in fashion and living in London only made my fascination worse. During my senior year, my art pieces began to become wearables – it was around this time that stylists and editors approached me and asked me to make pieces for fashion shoots. This led to a lot of posts on social media from people asking to buy the stuff they were making. Soon I was working 24/7 making shoes and hats from my bedroom floor. So now having a team to work with is a blessing. I am very excited to continue exploring what is possible by merging art and fashion.”

ABOUT THE BRAND: They are responsible for making shoes by hand in Europe, between Poland and Italy. They work with a small manufacturer with decades of experience and expertise Their tailor-made business model ensures that we won’t overproduce, which is often a big problem for brands and negatively affects the environment. They choose to use second-hand fabrics, this makes the pieces unique and better for our planet. Leather comes from waste, often in production Big brands that produce thousands of pieces will have leftover materials - we buy them and reuse them to make our pieces and reduce waste in fashion

UGOS

Ugo PAULON By Renata González

When we talk about conceptual footwear Ugo Paulon is the perfect example, he makes a fusion between classic handmade heels and extroverted atemporal trends. This footwear is known for having strong colors and geometrical prints that come from old materials and recycled heels. The Danish designer implements in all his creations spiral details as it represents for him a positive symbol of continuity, change and perspective. If you decide to buy a pair of Paulon’s, you would be investing in style and authenticity because each pair of shoes is unique and custom made.

FEATHERS

THE OPULENT TREND OF THE YEAR Por Alexa Saenz

Feathers have beco-

me one of the favorite and most viral trends of this year, they have become a key piece

in everyone’s wardrobe and social networks, events and streetstyle will not let us lie. Although feathers are a

attention and this makes them something risky when it comes to dressing, there are different ways of using them from textile that attracts

something more contemporary and casual to more formal and avantgarde looks.

This trend brings us vintage elegance, glamor and mysticism from the golden years of Hollywood, it is being placed quite strongly and most likely every time you visit a fashion firm or a local store you will find this trend in the windows. We share some of the looks that have fascinated us the most and cunningly you can take as an inspiration when dressing.

One of the most seen pieces all over the internet was the famous shirt with feathers on the sleeves by the Spanish brand Zara, a white shirt with pink feathers on the sleeves that would later be updated with a new green tone.

The tops have been a basic when talking about feathers, a very versatile garment that we could commonly see in an elevated look as something quite casual.

Various brands, from the highest ranges to the lowest with more accessible prices, have released their own versions based on the model of the Italian brand The Attico.

The LATIN SENSATION that is conquering the world. By Ana Barros

If at the beginning, more than 10 years ago, they had told her that she would be performing at Coachella, the Brazilian singer would not have believed it.

46

Anitta is the sensation of the moment and in 2022 she is reaping the successes - deserved - of a career marked by hard work and a lot of effort. Born in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and one of the greatest representatives of urban music in her native Brazil, this weekend she established herself as one of the most comprehensive artists of the genre with her presentation at Coachella on April 15.

Since its inception, she has been in charge of making something clear: she wants to take its origins with herwherever it goes. For this reason, her songs always have a Brazilian, Latin touch and full of her essence, along with the feminine power that characterizes her and gave her the nickname “Powerful” in her native country. Although since 2015 she had established herself as a sensation in her native country, she decided to aim further and take her culture to new horizons. With her audiovisual album “Kisses” she managed to put her music on everyone’s lips together with great artists such as Becky G and Snoop Dogg. By 2021, she had placed great songs like “I like it” and “Tócame” in the most important charts worldwide. In 2022 came the recognition that she was looking for - and deserved - with her song “Envolver”, which quickly became number 1 in the Global Top and her name resonates all over the world: from Brazil to Europe, the girl from Rio has been in charge of putting Brazilian culture on everyone’s Spotify. 47

LIFESTYLE

MINDLESS like Barbie By Ana Barros If there is something that has always characterized me throughout my life, it is the talent that I carry with me to be - in a few words - a basic bitch who lives immovable with life, the clichés of Taylor Swift songs and old Lindsay Lohan movies. .

Because actually being a basic bitch makes up several things: my favorite show is Gossip Girl, my favorite color is pink, I’m still not over One Direction, 90% of my personality is based on a mix between Penny Hofstadter and Rachel Green and my biggest dream is to eat the world one day building my own empire; because being a basic bitch can make me a lover of the banal and the superficial but - spoiler alert - it doesn’t lower my IQ.

LIFESTYLE The truth is, that idea that they sold us since we were little has scratched me that to be “valuable” lolitas we must measure ourselves by numbers, focus on everything that is not our body and that if some of our short-term goals are to dye our hair monkey, put on the acrylics or learn to combine our makeup with our outfit, we are less: less intelligent, less interesting. As if everything were an inversely proportional equation of those that taught us there in eighth grade and the more vanity, the less intelligence. Because if I made a list of things I don’t understand, just below quantum physics, it would come from where this need to always feel morally superior comes from. Since when do we have to be numerically perfect to have any kind of social value? It is high time that we leave behind that oceanic complex where we look for our most remarkable feature to be our depth and we are like Miley Stewart and Hannah Montana: we accept that within us there is the best of both worlds. Yes! I am that woman who counts down the days to get her nails done again, who loves to paint her hair like a monkey and always asks if it is in pink or some other pastel color when she goes to buy something. But I am also that woman who works day by day, who strives for her dreams and who believes in her potential; because although my goals are not to find a vaccine for COVID or to discover a new chemical element, I know that they are equally valid and important.

Let’s stop eating that story that we have to be one thing. That we do care about the order of our instagram feed, the color of our eyeliner and we make accounts to see when we wash our hair so that it fits in with our plans, we cannot be empowered bichotas who fight to change the world with their projects. No more! Let’s turn around the popular saying “without a mind like Barbie”, as if Barbie didn’t have more than 100 professions and occupations, and let’s understand that dedicating ourselves to what we like - even if it’s singing RBD’s songs at the top of our voices while doing frizzy and put on makeup to take photos at home - it doesn’t make us less than anyone else; because the blonde dye can discolor, the iron can burn but can it reduce our intellectual value? Oh no, never! Let’s do it for ourselves, for our mental health; because there is nothing worse than feeling enemies of our reflection and being forced to hide what makes us unique. Let’s understand that we don’t have to choose between being Marie Curie or Kim Kardashian when we can be like Elle Woods and love pink, do the bend and snap from time to time and introduce ourselves by saying our name and our astrological sign. Because life is not about extremes like black or white, but about nuances: about being our best version and accepting that we are incredible women who can worry about the most banal things in the world while still being tough in their professions, passions , studies and whatever comes to mind. Let’s apologize for all those times we made ourselves feel inferior - or allowed others to do so - just for dedicating ourselves to ourselves and doing what we like. Let’s forget the bad connotation of the basics and let’s do what people did the most in 2020: let’s reinvent ourselves and remember what is truly important: being true to ourselves. Let’s leave behind that desire to fit in with other people’s standards, let’s not forget that in reality Hannah Montana is also us when we decide to bring together the basic bitch that we carry inside with that girlboss that we know will one day fulfill all her dreams and let’s make that commercial that we saw so much when we were little: “be what you want to be, be a barbie girl”, our daily mantra.
