ATVERSE Chats with Grace

Hey y'all! It was a pleasure to interview one of the most famous profiles in the Sims community--Katverse! As most of us know, Katverse is a known pose maker and custom content creator of Sims 4.

Want to know how she got started, and get some tips? Then Read on.

Grace: When did you start playing Sims 4? and for how long?

Katverse: I’ve been playing The Sims since it first came out 20 years ago. Same with The Sims 4. When The Sims 4 Create A Sim Demo was released I was the first in line to get it.

Grace: Which one is easier to learn making custom content or poses?

Katverse: Both require time and willingness to learn. Creating makeup for example is quite easy. Creating poses is a bit more difficult. But I would say creating custom content is more difficult because learning how to create meshes and such is something I still haven’t learned how to do. Hopefully, 2021 is the year I finally do.

Grace: What inspired you to be a pose maker/ custom content creator?

Katverse: Ever since The Sims 1, I’ve been only playing with custom content. So, finally, when The Sims 4 came about I wanted to learn how I could make my own custom content. I got the final push when I participated in this competition called Sims 4 Miss World on Twitter. And the whole theory of that competition is to come up with new ideas for Sim edits, that looked different and will catch the eye. Because I wanted some extra spice into my edits, I needed new poses for my ideas. I got very frustrated because I never found a pose I wanted so I had to make my own. My poses were really not that great at first, but with time and practice my poses got better too. 22

Katverse: There’s always room for growth and I don't think I will ever “master” making custom content. But I would say I began feeling comfortable making content within a year. And now, I would say, I feel a little too comfortable to the point of boredom and I really want to venture out of my bubble and start making a new style of content.

Grace: here do you get your inspiration for your poses and other custom content?

Katverse: I get a lot of pose requests/suggestions from my followers. And I’m so thankful for that because coming out with new ideas can be difficult. But also, real-life situations inspire me to make poses. For example, when I felt moody and had no motivation to create, I came out with poses called “No Mood Pose Pack”. And because I’m obsessed with my cat, I created poses for “Posing with a Cat Pose Pack”.

Grace: As an expert, what are your tips for beginners who are trying out pose making?

Katverse: Some practical tips: when creating poses, you want your poses to look natural, and for that, I recommend having reference pictures of the pose you have in mind. Look at the overall pose and try to mimic that. Are their lips closed or open? Are they smiling and if so, are they squinting their eyes? What are their fingers looking like, curved or straight? All these little details are what’s going to make your pose look natural and great.

Now, time for some tough-love. And I can’t stress this enough, but don’t give up on your first try or even on your fifth try. I get so many messages from people telling me, that they tried once or twice, then had a small hiccup and gave up. Persistence can overcome almost any challenge. If you really want to learn a new skill, you need to invest time and effort into it. Watch all the tutorials, practice and you will see amazing results, I promise.

Grace: To end, what can you say to aspiring pose makers?

Katverse: When you’re thinking about starting your own custom content journey but you’re thinking to yourself if it’s such a great idea or if you’re good enough and all that self-doubt. I say you can do anything if you’re willing to put 100% into it. Type into the YouTube search bar and watch this video: Shia LaBeouf "Just Do It". That's my final message to you. Oh, and don’t forget to have fun while doing it, though!
