MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Telling the Sioux Falls story Telling the Sioux Falls story never gets old. We have so many exciting things taking place here that it’s a privilege to talk about our community and to share the ways that we have overcome obstacles and come together for the greater good. This past week our Chamber leaders had the opportunity to visit with our counterparts from Billings, Mont., as part of a leadership exchange they called an “Aspirational City Visit.” Billings is a smaller city than Sioux Falls and their leaders wanted to come here to learn about our successes. Just some of the things they learned about or saw on their whirlwind tour included the upgrades to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, the new facilities in the Sports & Entertainment District, the improvements made at our Great Plains Zoo, and how our community is able to rally public and private support to get things done. Your Chamber of Commerce has had a role in all of those success stories, whether through efforts of Forward Sioux Falls, our Community Appeals capital campaign process or being at the table when major com-

That’s one of the many benefits of your investment in the Chamber of Commerce — we are the voice for the business community. The truth is, we all play a role in telling the Sioux Falls story. When you’re on a plane for business or leisure travel, you have an opportunity to talk about the wonderful area in which you live and work. When you’re talking to friends and relatives across the country, even when you’re using social media, you have an opportunity to help educate people about our wonderful community. This issue of Chamber News features the efforts of our Convention & Visitors Bureau and their many successes in telling the Sioux Falls story to bring meetings, conventions, events and visitors here. Tour-

ism continues to grow in South Dakota as well as right here in Sioux Falls. Our new facilities have significantly helped our sales team when they are selling Sioux Falls. We will be hosting a number of groups in our city in the coming weeks and months and please help welcome our guests by doing your part to tell the Sioux Falls story. Two words that we often say in the Chamber world are thank you. As Chair of the Board, I’ve had the privilege to use them a lot, especially in the last few weeks. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with our successful Membership Drive. We are excited to welcome more than 100 new members into our fold. We appreciate all the hard work of our volunteers in connecting with new members and telling the Chamber story.

One of the many benefits of your Chamber membership is how the Chamber brings these groups together to tackle community issues and take advantage of opportunities to further our community and economy making a positive result on your bottom line. Though voters opted not to build an outdoor pool at Spellerberg Park, thus paving the way for an indoor aquatics facility, more approvals are necessary before ground is broken.
