GREETINGS SISTAHS! To have sight without VISION is worse than being born blind. Vision is not the same as ambition. While ambition is what we desire to become in life, vision is what God created us to become. The only meeting point of the two is where our will is lost in the will of God. Vision is higher than ambition. To become truly successful in life, your vision must become your ambition. Sometime you must you must separate yourself from the crowd. Remember, you are not common, so your vision is not common. Don’t look at what your friends are doing and feel like doing the same thing. SISTAHS, you must get your own pathway in life. Caleb and Joshua refused to follow the mindset of other spies; they chose to follow their own path. (Numbers 13:30-31) Pray for vision (Acts 10:9-16). Prayer gives grace to vision, watching gives alertness and direction to vision. When your prayers give birth to vision, watchfulness keeps it from being forgotten. Then you must “Write the Vision”! A vision not written will soon be forgotten. God wrote down His vision for His creation in the Bible. Write your own visions down too. If God would write, who are you not to write? The vision can’t remain on paper, you have to “Run the Vision”. Activities of your vision must become a daily routine. It should be what you live for. Vision + Action = Realization. Vision brings the old adage to light: Timing means everything! A timeless vision is an un-accomplishable vision (Ecc. 3). When the timing of a vision is missed, frustration sets in. (1 Sam. 15:918; Exo. 17:14). Don’t have sight and walk blind. When you have no vision for life you walk aimlessly and live carelessly. Got Vision? Go forth SISTAHS, be empowered, be informed and be inspired!

There are times in the life of faith when we feel energized, impassioned, and ready for action. We have a strong sense of calling, an eagerness to obey, and we feel God’s guiding presence each step along the way. But there are also times—sometimes long, heavy seasons—when we feel stuck. Perhaps we have a dream, but our life circumstances aren’t lining up with our deepest passion. Or maybe, despite our best efforts, our spiritual fervor has stalled out. Or perhaps we want to step out in faith and obedience, but what that step of faith ought to be is anything but clear. Thankfully Scripture provides us with powerful examples and compelling words to guide our prayers during those days—or months or years—when we feel stuck. When You Are . . . • Unsure. Like Gideon did with his fleece (twice!), pray for confirmation and then wait for it. Be on the lookout for God to make his will clear to you—perhaps through circumstances, the words of other believers, or other answers to prayer. Determine not to act until God has made his will clear through confirmation. • Bored. You may wish you were doing something truly amazing for God, but in reality, you’re living what feels like a “normal,” boring life. But here’s the truth: God’s calling can often look just like that. Use Micah 6:8 to guide your prayer, inviting God to show you how to embrace this bigpicture calling in your current reality. • Discouraged. When you feel inert and lifeless, sometimes the very best thing to

pray is nothing at all. Prayers of stillness, silence, and quiet—in which the Holy Spirit communes with you without words—may be the most honest and the most healing way for you to connect with God. Make a habit of silent, emptying prayer; God can work in and through your stillness. • Questioning. If you are struggling with doubt, prayerfully contemplate Proverbs 3:5–6 (especially verse 5!) and invite God to challenge and grow your trust. One of my favorite prayers for moments when trust feels fragile is to simply echo the cry of the father in the Gospel of Mark: “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief” (9:24, KJV). • Frustrated. When your current circumstances are undesired and your daily reality is grating on your emotions and wearing down your soul, pray the very words of Jesus: “I want your will to be done, not mine” (Luke 22:42). Your calling in this “stuck” season may be to fully, completely, and absolutely surrender your own will and seek God’s—even when it feels like it’s directly at odds with your own hopes. Feeling stuck isn’t easy. Your dream may have collided head-on with a roadblock. You may feel mired down in daily drudgery. You may be weakened by pain or struggles. Prayer isn’t an instant, magic cure to feeling stuck—but it is the most soul-healthy choice you can make. God is present, even in your most mired-down, soul-stuck moments. Meet him there. © 2022 Today’s Christian Woman – All Rights Reserved. https://www.todayschristianwoman.com/articles/2016/janua ry-20/5-biblical-prayers-for-when-you-feel-stuck.html

https://www.crosswalk.com/faith/women/how-does-god-define-success-for-women.html

Success is a subjective term that can vary in definition for different people, but there is a general meaning and definition of the word that tends to be widely adopted by the current culture around us and that is very different from the biblical meaning of the same word.

position, and fame, the biblical view of success can feel vague or cloudy, especially when we are in a season of obscurity. In order to see what God’s view of success is, let’s explore four important aspects of biblical success. 1. Success Is Found Within

One of the world’s main definitions of the word successful is “the attainment of wealth, position, honors or the like.” It’s interesting to note that each of the things listed in that definition are temporary--and chasing after temporary things is like chasing the wind. It’s futile and it can never actually be caught. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” Matthew 6:25 Jesus addressed the temporal nature of the things that we typically run after in our pursuit of success, two big ones being the ability to satisfy our flesh and the appearance of wealth and status. Thankfully He also points us toward what true and lasting success really is: pursuing Him. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

The world’s barometer of success comes from things on the outside, but God’s view of success is found within. Outward success isn’t a bad thing, but your top priority shouldn’t be there. God’s type of success comes from your heart, your attitude, your motivations, and how you treat and love people and God. The Bible admonishes us to avoid preoccupation with our outward appearance as a measure of our success, and instead focus on achieving our success from within. Your adornment must not be merely external—with interweaving and elaborate knotting of the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or [being superficially preoccupied with] dressing in expensive clothes; but let it be [the inner beauty of] the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, [one that is calm and selfcontrolled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature] which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4 AMP

With the world’s barometer of success being based on very specific things like wealth, | 11

2. Success Is Rooted in Obeying God Where You Are

what you do day after day that produces a harvest that will last for eternity.

God’s view of success is all about doing what He has asked you to do in the season you are in and in the circumstances surrounding you. Whether that means you are a CEO of a large company, or you are taking care of your family at home, success is found in embracing what God is asking you to do right now.

In multiple Bible translations, David is described as being “successful wherever Saul sent him” (1 Samuel 18:5). The original Hebrew word that was translated into the word success in this verse is sâkal, which means ‘to be prudent, circumspect and to wisely understand,’ showing that true success lies in making wise decisions that compound over time.

When I left the workforce to be a stay-athome mom after the birth of my first child, I struggled with being “just a mom”, along with the daily grind of diapers, feeding, cleaning, and all the other duties I consistently had to do and redo multiple times each day. Though I was thankful for the opportunity to stay home with my baby, part of me secretly longed to go back to work so I could feel some sense of accomplishment in what I was doing. Then God started showing me what biblically focused success really means and I was encouraged when I started to see all the ways I was actually succeeding with my family, as well as in my character as I spent more time in prayer asking God to help me through each day. Jesus’ mother Mary was also “just a mom” for a season in her life, but she mothered the son of God! While you may not be raising THE son of God, if you have children, you have been commissioned to raise up and nurture God’s son or daughter, and your impact there will last for generations. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 3. Success Is a Daily Discipline In the world’s temporal view of success, you can be successful one day and lose it all the next day, but God’s view of success is about 12 |

David’s example shows that success isn’t about being perfect or always getting it right (because we know he certainly didn’t), but rather it's about following God each day and aiming to be more and more like Him. Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. Ephesians 5:1516 AMP 4. Success Requires Both You and God No matter how hard you work, success isn’t something you can earn purely by your own efforts, but you do have a role to play. True biblical success is a result of God’s favor on your life and His blessings on your efforts. We see this in Joseph’s story in the book of Genesis. Joseph experienced success multiple times because the Lord was with Him. The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in

charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. Gen 39:2-4 This doesn’t mean that Joseph just sat around and enjoyed God’s favor without having to do anything. On the contrary, Joseph worked hard and was faithful in all he did, whether he was in Pharaoh's house or in prison. In every circumstance he found himself in, his godly character was revealed in his hard work, his commitment to honor God, and his kindness towards others. God’s favor on Joseph’s efforts gave him the success that ultimately saved his family and the nation of Israel. True biblical success in your life may never look like the world’s kind of success, but it will produce a peace, fulfillment, and eternal impact that money, position, or fame will never bring. Choosing to love God and follow His lead in your life is the most fulfilling you can do and it will bring the true and lasting success that your heart is longing for. Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance]. Proverbs 16:3 AMP

FINDING THE BALANCE BETWEEN AND YOUR HAPPINESS & WELL-BEING

Have you ever heard someone say: As soon as I start earning more money, I’ll be happier or As soon as I pay off ___ I’ll be a in a much better situation. Have you ever thought like this yourself? Just earlier this year, I used to think that paying off all my debt and reaching financial stability would make me a happier person. A few short months ago, I started to realize that this would not be the case. Yes, I did and do still want to become debt free one day in the near future, but I am not depending on it for my happiness and overall wellness. When I submit my last debt payment, I don’t expect a disco ball to drop from the ceiling or a mariachi band to bust through the door and start dancing around my room. I imagine life will still go on. I will be faced with new challenges and decisions along with my next major goal to tackle. Just because being in debt made me angry, upset, tired and annoyed at times, doesn’t necessarily mean getting rid of debt will make me feel the opposite each and every day. I choose to get out of debt so I can improve my finances but I don’t expect it to make me happier in the long run. My happiness and well-being will depend on how I decide to live my life. This is why it’s so important to know how to balance your goals for your finances with

your happiness and overall wellness. Sometimes something doesn’t always have to give. You can definitely find balance by following some of these simple principles. Don’t Get Too Frugal Frugality is a great thing. It truly is best to focus on being resourceful by using what you have and valuing people and experiences over things. However, I feel like frugality is best when it isn’t forced and it’s practiced as a choice rather than a necessity. There is such a thing as being ‘too frugal’ and everyone has their own personal limits. For example, there are certain things I like to save money on like my housing expenses, my cell phone bill, and not having cable. These are areas of my budget are still important to me, but I’d prefer to sacrifice and not spend a lot of money in these areas. I’m perfectly happy with not having cable and watching less of my favorite shows. It doesn’t bother me at all. On the other hand, there are certain expenses that I like to spend money on in moderation that help make my life easier, like my car. My car cost me a fortune this year because I was paying it off, but if I didn’t have any transportation, my entire daily schedule and work-life balance would fall apart.

| 15

If I decided to be uber frugal, I could get rid of it and try my luck with public transportation to save money, but that would end up wasting a lot of time and energy and not to mention make me frustrated at times and put me in a bad mood. Public transportation in my area is all over the place and it could easily increase my daily commute by 2-3 hours. Not to mention, I would have to rely on others to help get me from point A to point B. It’s important to know your limits when it comes to frugality and be comfortable with spending less on the things that don’t matter as much and spending consciously on the things that do, to create a healthy balance. Do Work You Love Often times, passion has little to do with the workplace. I’ve run across many people who make good money so they can meet all their needs, but at the end of the day, they are unhappy and stressed out. Burning yourself out at work and getting overtime can be great for your finances and help accelerate your progress towards your goals, but it can be horrible for your health and your outlook on life each day. If you aren’t doing work that you love, enjoy and take pride in, you run the risk of getting burnt out, dealing with health issues and feeling depressed. If you have to work 40 hours per week, you might as well be doing something worthwhile so you don’t have to dread each day and drag yourself out of bed. I know it’s easier said than done, but you can start exploring some other options if you are unhappy at work, like starting a side business, reaching out to your network for job leads or searching for another job and lining up some interviews.

16 |

Set Your Priorities In order to balance your health, happiness and finances, you need to determine what your priorities are and give up trying to do everything. Your health should always be number one. Then, you’ll need to determine to what lengths are you willing to go to in order to improve your finances. If paying off debt or saving up for a home means working 60+ hour weeks for 3 years straight, assess the positive and negative effects of your plan and develop a strong support system to help you meet your goal and prevent you from burning out. If you would rather have less money in your pocket and more time to spend with family and your kids, you’ll probably need to make more sacrifices in other areas of your life in order to focus on what makes you happiest. This may include, having a tighter budget, saying ‘no’ to going on certain outings with friends and skipping vacations in the summer. The balance is all about determining what you’d rather have, because in most cases you can’t have it all. When you know your frugality limits, start enjoying the work you do, and determine and prioritize what you really want, you’ll start to improve your overall mood and outlook on life while still being able to make progress with your finances. ©2015 Dorethia Kelly – All Rights Reserved. https://www.themoneychat.com/how-to-find-the-balancebetween-financial-stability-and-your-happiness-and-wellbeing

SISTAH Talk: How did you start Styled by Favor? Styled by Favor was rebranded in January 2021 originally starting as Styled by Deanna Danielle in 2019. The business was started with jewelry accessories as an independent consultant for Paparazzi. With our accessories we put together full styles before rebranding and focusing on the clients styling needs. SISTAH Talk: What was your greatest obstacle in establishing your business and how did you overcome it? My biggest struggle was listening to others! Listening to others and not following my vision for the company put me in the position to spend unnecessary finances, target the wrong audience and not devote my time and myself to my craft. Once I took a step back and begin to follow the vision that God gave me is when I was able to ignore the opinions of others and work towards the goals I had for the company. I was also introduced to a business coach Jo The-Giant who helped me bring structure and accountability to my business which also helped me overcome this obstacle. SISTAH Talk: How would you encourage others who what to start their own business? I would say get a business coach! You need someone who can pour knowledge into you! Since I have been working with Jo The-Giant my mindset has completely changed. I learned how to properly set my business up, I have been working on business credit, learning marketing strategy etc. People will tell you it doesn’t take all that but I’m here to tell you it really does! It’s important that you make sure you have the tools and resources to have a legally functioning business that has reoccurring revenue and trust me you won’t get all that information on your own! I would also encourage you to follow your vision and your plan, its ok to listen to someone’s opinion but do not alter your vision to accommodate what someone else thinks you should do because it’s what they would do! Remember your vision for your business was given to you not them! | 19

The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March, 2022 (IWD 2022) is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all. Women are increasingly being recognized as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural resources which climate change threatens the most. At the same time, women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and changemakers for climate adaptation and mitigation. They are involved in sustainability initiatives around the world, and their participation and leadership results in more effective climate action.
