All Access Sports and Recreation Summer Camps 2019

Playcamp These day camps are designed for children with cognitive disabilities who need a higher level of staff assistance for participation including those with Autism Spectrum disorder. Activities will include arts and crafts, games, circle time, a field trip, and more. Children should bring a sack lunch to camp each day. Participants must be able to function in a 1:3 staff to child ratio and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attendant with them. Attendants will need to be fingerprinted by the City of San Jose. Northern California Junior Sports Camp Junior Sports Camp covers introductory and intermediate instruction in both recreational and competitive wheelchair sports for individuals with physical disabilities ages 5-21. World class wheelchair athletes provide instruction in a variety of sports. The camp is sponsored by the City of San JosĂŠ and Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association. On line registration can be completed at https:// fwwaa.sportngin.com/home Teens Together Everybody wants to have fun! Be social, make some friends, learn some new skills. This camp for teens with disabilities and their non-disabled siblings and friends will provide a safe and structured opportunity to be a teen. Some fieldtrips, lots of games, crafts and other cool stuff! Teens must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care or provide an attendant.

Camp Superstuff- Asthma Camp Every summer, Breathe California offers Camp Superstuff, a week-long day camp held within the region served by Breathe California of the Bay Area. This year, the City of San Jose, Mayfair Community Center, is partnering with Breathe California to offer Camp Superstuff. This camp is designed for children 6-12 suffering from asthma, Camp Superstuff blends asthma education curriculum with traditional summer camp activities. Scholarships available, please contact for more information.

Diabetes Camp– Type 1 Children This collaborative day camp program is provided by the City of San Jose's Therapeutic Services and California Diabetes Association. There will be fun activities, outings, games, crafts, and diabetes education. Nursing staff will be on site to help monitor blood sugars and provide education to participants and families. Registration is taken by the California Diabetes Association. Contact Kat at 775-856-3839 or online at www.nda.campviews.com to register. Project Power! Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Camp Is your child diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes? Are they close to being diagnosed? Does Diabetes run in your family? Has your pediatrician encouraged your child to eat healthier or exercise more,? If you said YES to any of these questions, then this camp is for you! Come have fun and learn about healthy lifestyle choices. This is a camp with art, sports, activities, healthy snacks, and diabetes education. A diabetes educator and dietician will be at the camp to teach healthy living skills. Camp staff will get the kids moving and having fun! This camp is a joint collaboration between the City of San Jose and the American Diabetes Association and funded by a grant from Santa Clara County.. Children must qualify for this camp. Your child must present at least 2 risk factors for type 2 diabetes or be diagnosed with pre-diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes.

Child and Teen Programs Fun For All This program focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities, and a field trip. Power Soccer Power Soccer is a competitive sport for power wheelchair users. Similar to outdoor soccer, however, games are played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court with a 13-inch soccer ball in an attempt to score goals. Come join our power soccer teams: San Jose Steamrollers, Rockets, and Flash to help develop your skills in a power chair, while playing an exciting sport. You will get the opportunity to play with your team in local and national tournaments. Steamroller practice from 10am-12pm. Rockets practice from 12pm- 2pm. Flash practices from 1pm-3pm. Participants must be able to have a power chair adaptable for power soccer. Participants must be able to function in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio.

Wheels on Fire Have you got game? Basketball, Rugby, Soccer, Bocce, Archery, Badminton‌ You play it, we offer it! Wheels on Fire is a sports team designed for athletes with disabilities who enjoy a variety of sports. No wheelchair, no problem. We have extra chairs for use during program. Athletes of all abilities are welcome. The team practices basic sports skills, team cooperation and rules of competitive play. This program focuses on exposure to a variety of wheelchair sports with the potential for competitive skill development. We may also engage in special activities such as holiday themed events or field trips. Snacks may be provided. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant. Pre registration is highly encouraged.

Living Skills/Cooking Simply Cooking This introductory course for adults with developmental disabilities covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinners, and desserts. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Students will receive instructional materials to take home. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners. American is sailing between New York and England with a comically colorful assemblage of passengers. Billy instantly falls in love with Hope, a beautiful girl he meets in a taxi. When he discovers she’s boarding the same ship his boss and co-worker Reno are taking, he sneaks aboard himself. Hope is engaged to a stuffy British aristocrat, Sir Evelyn, but that doesn’t stop the love-struck Billy. With the help of other passengers, Billy seeks to shake Reno and capture the heart of the girl of his dreams all without hurting anyone’s feelings. Group Arts Class Check out the Mayfair Community Center and relax with some arts and crafts. Leisure Club Come out and meet new friends! This leisure program is designed to develop leisure awareness and social skills for individuals with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Activities include crafts, games, music, parties and more. Participants who are able will go on one community outing per session. Individuals must be able to understand simple directions and require minimal supervision. Community Based Urban Explorers Get out and explore! This is a walking club directed towards teen and young adults with disabilities. Each week, we will meet a the Roosevelt Community Center and travel using public transportation to different trails, museums, festival, and parks in the area. San Jose has a lot to offer it’s urban dwelling explorers. We'll learn about our unique community settings while meeting new friends and getting a little exercise. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs.

Around the Town Club Join us for a night on the town! Adapted Sports and Fitness Adapted Bowling It's a strike! Come join us for our immensely popular bowling program. Located at Bowlero San Jose, 5420 Thornwood Drive on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30pm. Ages 11 and up are welcome. Come polish your game with the support of our therapeutic staff. Learn technique and etiquette, make new friends, and most importantly have fun! Adapted Fitness Don't put it off any longer! The time has come to jump start your fitness level. The program is located at a fully equipped Camden Community Fitness Center for individuals 18 and up with a physical disability. Each participant will receive a customized workout program designed to achieve their personal fitness goals. Participants must be able to function in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. A 10-visit punch pass is available for participants to drop-in. The punch card will be debited one punch for one class day. Adapted Sports and Fitness New Opportunity! Introduction to Disc Golf (inclusion) Disc golf is fun for everyone. Whether you are young or old, athletic or a self proclaimed couch potato. Everyone can play this inclusive sport that has courses popping up all over the place. Want to check it out without having to invest in the equipment - this opportunity is for you! We will start things off easy with a "pop up" course at the Camden Community Center. If you like it, we will be offering a 3 week mini course in the fall. So, come check it out and see if you want to take up a new sport! Let's see where this can go. All abilities are welcome, including those with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
