SJ RECREATION PRESCHOOL
Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:
Requirements for parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option. (Kinder Prep & Little Learners only)
Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, and gain independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play and arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center.

Winter 2016– Art Classes Children explore and experiment with painting, drawing, textures, collages, and other basic art techniques. As they stretch their imagination, little ones are also developing fine motor skills, color and shape recognition, listening and focusing. A variety of art materials will be used as they create their own original works of art!
Students learn the basic techniques of cartooning, and drawing characters and images from their imagination. This class develops communication skills through self expression and storytelling. (Students should bring a drawing pad and pencil to class.)

Winter 2016– Dance Classes This tap/ballet class introduces children to the basics of both ballet and tap, combining creative movement, grace and balance. Students learn basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs, and elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. (Wear dance attire and bring tap and ballet shoes.) Parents may stay for first 10 minutes of first class and are invited back at the end of program for a class demonstration).
Baby Ballet encourages self-expression and fun! Children learn to respond to music, improve balance and agility, and express their feelings through dance. A variety of music and props such as scarves and teddy bears keep your little one entertained.

Winter 2016– Dance/ Theater Arts Dance
Music TogetherÂŽ is a research-based, developmentally appropriate music and movement program for children and their caregivers. Classes are fun and informal. Songs, chants, instrumental play and dance are experienced in a non-performance, mixed-age, participation encouraged environment. Instructor: Harmony Makers
The scholarship prices are examples only. Depending on how a resident desires to apply the scholarship award the cost of the class may be lower or higher than the example. The example provided in the community brochure shows the scholarship price of Leisure Classes at 75% of cost and Active Adult Classes at 50% of cost. 50+ ACTIVE ADULT PROGRAMS Join us for a morning jolt to get your day going! This is a volunteer run class with lots of energy to share. The workout is great for any active senior. The class will start with a 7-minute warm up, go into 30 minutes of low impact aerobics, and conclude with an 8-minute cool down.

50+ ACTIVE ADULT PROGRAMS Enjoy a little taste of the islands in this new Hula class for beginners. Volunteer instructor will teach some easy dances which will be fun and healthy to some of classic Hawaiian songs. This is a beginners class. Please join us and have fun while learning.

Join us for a very basic beginners, hands on, step by step instruction to get your Ipad turned on and to find your way around to all of the basics you should know to start using and feeling comfortable with your device. Interested in reducing stress, increasing energy, and regaining balance? Well then the Tai Chi Mix class will help you find it! The class is for beginners to advanced students. The first hour will be spent on the basic tai chi movements. Tai Chi is a set of specific movements that take on the appearance of a dance. This is a non-contact and non combative way of improving health and physical control. The second hour will focus on weapons. Where the sword helps you find your internal “Chi,” the fan will help you smooth the flow of your “Qi.” With both techniques you will improve your balance and muscle tone.
Paint your vision to LIFE! The class where techniques of painting strokes and methods will help bring out every artist. Students will explore and develop handling and control of watercolor processes and learn numerous painting skills, as well as the analysis of various papers and working surfaces.
