Children will play crazy fun games, sports, create cool arts and crafts, sing funny songs, and embark on a weekly adventure. Activities incorporate educational features disguised in fun entertaining activities and projects. Each week will have a theme and special activities/guests. Campers need to bring water, lunch and sunscreen each day. Child must be potty-trained by the first day of camp.

San Jose Recreation Preschool Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:      

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ration is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare.

LITTLE LEARNERS @ BERRYESSA Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, while gaining independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play, arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center.

KINDERPREP @ BERRYESSA This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, and writing the alphabet, simple words), number recognition, and counting up to 30. SPRING CLASSES - MUSIC JUNIOR PIANO PLAYERS (PARENT/CHILD) This fun and educational piano keyboard class is for budding pianists ages 4-5 years. Students will be introduced to keyboard technique, music theory and play songs using a curriculum that incorporates learning-games geared towards the younger learners. A parent or guardian must accompany their child in each class meeting. Keyboards will be provided for students in class. CONTINUING PIANO (YOUTH)

BEGINNING PIANO & KEYBOARDS Students will be taught the basics of playing music on the piano/keyboard. Topics include: basic notes, rhythm and theory as well as finger exercises, chords and scales, all with the goal of being able to play basic keyboard accompaniment parts and fun songs. Keyboards will be provided for students in class. However, students will need a keyboard at home for practice. Recommended resources for purchasing or renting a keyboard will be provided at the first class.

This is a follow up class to Beg. Piano. Students will work on music rudiments and songs both as a group as well as receive some individual instruction. Topics include playing chords to popular and classic songs, melody playing and beginning solo piano skills. Class curriculum rotates each session so the student can repeat this class up to 4 times. This class is designed to keep a student active in their musical development in an affordable, low-pressure, and fun environment. *Students will need to bring a set of headphones with a 1/4 inch plug*

Youth Guitar Level 1 This fun and educational class is for the absolute beginner guitarist. Students will be introduced to the basics of guitar playing and music fundamentals by learning fun contemporary songs. Topics include tuning, chord strumming, “power” chording, blues and the fundamentals of note and rhythm reading. **Students will need to have their own acoustic guitar or electric guitar. A $10 material fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.**

Music Together® is a research-based, developmentally appropriate music and movement program for children and their caregivers. Classes are fun and informal. SPRING CLASSES- SPORTS BASKETBALL: FIRST SHOTS

KARATE (KENPO) -

Discover the fundamentals of basketball in a fun recreational environment. Preschool class include age appropriate activities and emphasize basketball skills such as shooting, dribbling, and passing. Fun games will be played in each class, please be sure your child wears proper sport clothes and shoes (no boots or open toed shoes) and bring a water bottle, seasonal fruit to be eaten at the end of the class, and a small towel.

LEVEL 1 Learn a beginning form of martial arts that promotes respect, self esteem, leadership and self-confidence. This class teaches the techniques of kicking, punching, blocking, striking and self-defense. Karate uniforms not required, but are available through the instructor. Classes are taught by highlyqualified instructors with 2nd-5th degree Black Belts. *Students are required to take our Karate Kenpo Level 1 class before registering for our Level 2/3 class.

This parent-child class develops gross motor skills and coordination pertinent to the game of basketball. Repetition permits children to build their confidence and self esteem. MOMMY/DADDY & ME SOCCER As you and your child participate in our fun age appropriate activities, your child will be developing their large motor skills and socialization skills. The fun happens on the field, and parents are a part of the action! Shin guards or cleats are not required.

Players will learn dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, age-specific defense, etc. Fun skill games are played at every session, and every participant will have a ball at his or her feet. Take a walk on the wild side in this crazy week of sleuth science. Have a ton of fun as we whip up potions and experiment with all kinds of chemical reactions, including growing our own crystals, and making sidewalk chalk. Mix it up as we experiment with molecular madness, radical reactions and “fizz”-ical and chemical reactions. Then use everything you’ve learned to solve the Mad Science Mystery; even Sherlock couldn’t figure this one out.

Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations. Campers construct a HUGE geodesic dome!
