SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:  Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center.  Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better.  Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program.  Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day.  A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations.  The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare.  After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list.  Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option. (KinderPrep & Little Learners only)  In accordance with, child care exemption laws, children cannot be enrolled in more the 12 hours of SJ Recreation Preschool per session.

LITTLE LEARNERS (3-4 YEAR OLDS) Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, while gaining independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play, arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center.

SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL KINDERPREP (4-5 YEAR OLDS) This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, and writing the alphabet, simple words), number recognition, and counting up to 30. Take a walk on the wild side in this crazy week of sleuth science. Have a ton of fun as we whip up potions and experiment with all kinds of chemical reactions, including growing our own crystals, and making sidewalk chalk. Mix it up as we experiment with molecular madness, radical reactions and “fizz”-ical and chemical reactions. Then use everything you’ve learned to solve the Mad Science Mystery; even Sherlock couldn’t figure this one out.

Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations. Campers construct a HUGE geodesic dome! We will use the skills we’ve learned to build a Mad Science robot that we can keep, all while learning the science of robotics.
