Dance Tap/Ballet I (CLAP ARTS)

DANCE– Jazz, Tap, Ballet (CLAP ARTS) This class features a mix of dance styles including ballet, jazz and tap. Students learn the basic ballet positions, barre and centre exercises, jazz isolations, traveling movements, and basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs. Parents are invited to end of session presentation! Suggested Attire: Comfortable clothes or leotards, tights and tutus. Ballet and tap shoes suggested but not required. Hawaiian Dance (DANCE ARTS ACADEMY) Learn to dance authentic Hawaiian dances! Hawaiian dance steps, terms and routines will be taught. Learn to dance like a Hawaiian native and have a fantastic time! Parents are allowed to stay for the first 10 minutes on the first day of class and are encouraged to attend the last class for a great recital. Suggested Attire: Wear leotard or stretch pants. Please bring a large scarf or wrap to tie around your child’s waist. Bare feet during class is suggested.

Tap/Ballet I introduces children to the basics of ballet and tap, combining creative movement, grace and balance. Students learn basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs, and elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. Instruction advances with age and ability of participants. Parents may stay for first 10 min of first class and are invited back at the end of program for a class demonstration. Suggested Attire: Comfortable clothes or leotards, tights and tutus. Students are encouraged to bring Tap and Ballet shoes, but may also wear closed-toe shoes for Tap and bare feet for Ballet. Music & Theater Beginning Piano and Keyboards (SJG Music) Students will be taught the basics of playing music on the piano/ keyboard. Topics include: basic notes, rhythm and theory as well as finger exercises, chords and scales, all with the goal of being able to play basic keyboard accompaniment parts and fun songs. Keyboards will be provided for students in class. However, students will need a keyboard at home for practice. Recommended resources for purchasing or renting a keyboard will be provided at the first class. **There is an additional $10 fee for materials payable to the instructor in class. Course#

Beginning Youth Ukelele (SJG Music) Learn fundamental skills to start playing the ukulele! Learn rhythms and strumming patterns for popular songs. A great beginner gymnastic class teaching basic gymnastic skills, including movement exploration, balance, and coordination, and at the same time teaching agility and improving motor skills. Parents are allowed to stay for the first 10 minutes on the first day of class and are encouraged to attend the last class for a great recital. This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to Intermediate players. Using our progressive curriculum, we focus on the whole player - teaching respect, teamwork, and responsibility. Over the course of this six-session program, boys and girls will learn passing, shooting, dribbling, rebounding and defense. Participants should bring a water bottle and wear appropriate clothing and shoes.

Brief overview All Access Sports and Recreation (AASR) provides a wide range of programs for individuals of all ages with all ability levels, including those with ambulatory and cognitive disabilities. Inclusion services are available for people with disabilities wishing to participate in recreation, preschool and after-school programs in the City of San José. We welcome people of all abilities to participate in our programs! If you or your child has a disability, behavior concern, severe allergy, or other condition requiring accommodation, please let us know at the time of registration. Please register early to allow adequate time to process requests. Fun for All This program focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities, and a field trip. Urban Explorers Get out and explore! This is a walking club directed towards teen and young adults with disabilities. Each week, we will meet at Roosevelt Community Center and travel using public transportation to different trails, museums, festivals, and parks in the area. San Jose has a lot to offer its urban dwelling explorers. We'll learn about our unique community settings while meeting new friends and getting a little exercise. San Jose Recreation Preschool Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:         

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option. (Kinder Prep & Little Learners only)

LITTLE LEARNERS @ SEVEN TREES Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, while gaining independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play, arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty-trained before the start of class. KINDERPREP@ SEVEN TREES This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. 50+ ACTIVE ADULTS CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING Learn the art of brush painting. The instructor will teach the “Impressionistic style,” which is easier to master. She will start with basic strokes to draw orchids, and then gradually introduce other components, such as flower pot, insects, bamboo, minnow, etc. Learn at your own pace.
