Come and join staff for a fun filled week of exciting games, challenging sports, and creative arts projects. Campers are required to provide their own lunch and water every day. A newsletter, listing the week's activities and trip information, will be distributed the first day of camp. We want to make this camp enjoyable for you and your child. FUNdamentals MINE, CRAFT, BUILD USING LEGO®

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO! Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghost, and a motorized Minecart! This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. 2016-17 SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL        

Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San José Recreation Preschool class: Requirements for parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc. varies by center. Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better Participants must be toilet trained by first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and is not a licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any S.J. Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. A monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for autopay option. (Kinder Prep and Little Learners only)

LITTLE LEARNERS

Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, and gain independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play and arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the first day of class. Location: Southside Community Center

KINDERPREP

This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills, and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, and writing the alphabet and simple words), as well as number recognition, and counting up to 30. WINTER- MUSIC & THEATER ARTS JUNIOR PIANO AND CONTINUING JUNIOR PIANO PLAYERS This fun and educational piano keyboard class is for budding pianists ages 4-5 years. Students will be introduced to keyboard technique, music theory and play songs using a curriculum that incorporates learninggames geared towards the younger learners. A parent or guardian must accompany their child in each class meeting. Keyboards will be provided for students in class. However, students will need a keyboard at home for practice. **There is an additional $10 fee for materials payable to the instructor in class. GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS– LEVEL 1

This fun and educational class is for the absolute beginner guitarist. Students will be introduced to the basics of guitar playing and music fundamentals by learning fun, contemporary songs. Topics include tuning, chord strumming, "power" chording, blues and the fundamentals of note and rhythm reading. **Students will need to have their own acoustic or electric guitar. CONTINUING GUITAR FOR YOUTH

This is a follow-up class to Beg. Guitar Level 1. Students will work on music rudiments and songs both as a group as well as receive some limited individual instruction. WINTER- DANCE BALLET/TAP COMBO

This combination Ballet/Tap class introduces participants to basic movements and use of bar (if available). The Tap class portion teaches children to use their body as a rhythmic instrument. Tap shoes are optional. Children can wear comfortable clothing. Parents can stay for the first ten minutes of the class and are invited to a final performance on the last day of class. Players develop their tennis technique, athletic and court coverage skills in order to achieve success in rallying consistency and in point playing on a 60 foot court. CITY OF SAN JOSE POLICIES REGISTRATION POLICIES  Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to   

all. San José residents and Active Adult members are eligible for early registration. Customers can register for any class at any PRNS facility. Registration will be accepted in person, mail, fax, or online. Phone registrations will not be accepted. Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received. Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting if the course is still available. If the course requested is full, the participant will be registered for their second choice or placed on a wait list. Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Children may not enter the class until the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity. If a class is cancelled by the City, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session. In the event that a class cannot be rescheduled for a make-up by the City, a refund will be issued for the missed class. If the participant misses a class, no refunds will be issued. All wait list participants will be contacted only if there is an available spot in the class.

There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH child. If a class was paid with cash or check, a refund check will be mailed and may take 6-8 weeks for processing. If a class was paid with a credit card, the refund will be credited back to the credit card.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT/CLASS CANCELLATION  The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services reserves the right to the cancel any class or activity that does not meet a set minimum enrollment. Please register early to avoid class cancellations. We will make every effort to notify you at least five days prior to the scheduled course starting date. Please do not purchase supplies until five days prior to the start of the class. If a class is canceled, you will receive a full refund from the City, excluding class supplies.

PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS  Please note all requirements, dates, and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.

PAYMENT PLANS POLICY  Automatic payments are processed on the twentieth (20th) day of each month. A full payment is required to hold your child’s spot for the following month. Additionally, if payment is not received by the 1st of the month, students will be withdrawn from the class. If your credit/debit card account changes, please notify the community center front desk staff. If you do not plan to have your child continue, we request that you notify the community center staff at least two (2) weeks prior to your child’s last day. This will allow us to stop your automatic payment on time.

LATE PICK UP POLICY  The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services wants to ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. Participants must be picked up at the scheduled class end time. If, after five minutes, a participant is not picked up, we may charge $1.00 per participant for every minute thereafter. All fees must be paid prior to the participant returning to the class. We understand that emergencies may happen. If you have any emergency and are unable to pick up your child on time, contact the community center.

INCLUSION POLICY  The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) encourages and supports the participation of individuals with all ability levels in programs and services. To facilitate opportunities for people with and without disabilities and to engage in leisure pursuits together, PRNS provides inclusion support services. These services include, but are not limited to interpreters for the deaf or hearing impaired, improved signage, activity modification, additional staff training, accessible equipment and facility features and support staff. To ensure the consideration of the requested accommodation, please notify the specific facility where the program is provided at least two weeks in advance.
