Programs for teens and adults with disabilities Simply Cooking This introductory course for adults with developmental disabilities covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinners, and deserts. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Students will receive instructional materials to take home. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners. Participants must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. Course #

Programs for Teens & Adults with Disabilities Co-op Dance These dances for individuals with disabilities ages 18 and up are co-sponsored and hosted by the Therapeutic Recreation programs of the cities of San JosĂŠ, Santa Clara, and Sunnyvale. Registration is accepted at the door only. Please call 408-369-6438 for more information or to receive the annual calendar. Returns in FALL 2017!

Around the Town Club Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community trips to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore your community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff. Past activities have included movies, restaurants, sporting events, theme events and nights at the theatre. The first night of the program will take place at Camden Community Center. Location thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities. Participants will be assigned to a group the first night. An event calendar will be passed out the second week of program. Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and independent with their personal care needs. Please note: registration fee covers staffing costs only. Adapted Fitness Don't put it off any longer! The time has come to jump start your fitness level. The program is located at a fully equipped Camden Community Fitness Center for individuals 18 and up with a physical disability. Each participant will receive a customized workout program designed to achieve their personal fitness goals. Participants must be able to function in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. A 10-visit punch pass is available for participants to drop-in. The punch card will be debited one punch for one class day. Programs for Adults with Disabilities HIRLN Bowling

Head Injury Recreation and Leisure Network is a social club for survivors of head injuries and strokes. Join us at Bowlero bowling alley near Oakridge mall for a night of fun! This will include 2 hours of bowling, shoe rental, cheese pizza, and unlimited soda. Staff will be there to help and have fun with the group. Course # 210.1.4027

Check out the Mayfair Community Center and relax with some arts and crafts. This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities and designed to improve fine motor skills, creativity and social skills. Come join us on the last Tuesday of the month for some fun! Each month will have a different theme or activity. Examples include Bingo, holiday parties, playing in the game room, arts and crafts, etc. Please register in advance to reserve your spot. Night at the Quakes

Please join us for a soccer game at the Avaya Stadium. We are purchasing a group of tickets and will enjoy EARTHQUAKES SOCCER! Participants must be able to sit with the group. We will purchase a limited number of wheelchair accessible seats so please let us know as soon as possible if you need one. A drop off location will be identified as the event gets closer. We will most likely use the uber drop off zone across the street. Disabled Parking is $15, regular parking is $20-$25 so carpooling or getting dropped off is recommended. Please call Liz at 408-794-1065 if you have any questions or did not receive a flyer. Participants must be able to follow simple directions and stay with the group. Aphasia Talkfest The City of San Jose and the Pacific Stroke Association are collaborating together and inviting people with aphasia to our new monthly social group. This casual group is facilitated by a stroke survivor and provides an opportunity to meet others with aphasia and engage in conversation. Playcamp These day camps are designed for children with cognitive disabilities who need a higher level of staff assistance for participation including those with Autism Spectrum disorder. Activities will include arts and crafts, games, circle time, a field trip, and more. Children should bring a sack lunch to camp each day. Participants must be able to function in a 1:3 staff to child ratio and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attendant with them. Attendants will need to be fingerprinted by the City of San Jose. Northern California Junior Sports Camp Junior Sports Camp covers introductory and intermediate instruction in both recreational and competitive wheelchair sports for individuals with physical disabilities ages 5-21. World class wheelchair athletes provide instruction in a variety of sports. The camp is sponsored by the City of San JosÊ and Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association. Campers have a residential or day camp option. For more information and registration materials, contact Alex Donaldson at 408-794-6290 or via e-mail at Alexandria.Donaldson@sanjoseca.gov. On line registration is not accepted. Teens Together Everybody wants to have fun! Be social, make some friends, learn some new skills. This camp for teens with disabilities and their nondisabled siblings and friends will provide a safe and structured opportunity to be a teen. Some fieldtrips, lots of games, crafts and other cool stuff! Teens must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care or provide an attendant. Camp Superstuff- Asthma Camp Every summer, Breathe California offers Camp Superstuff, a week-long day camp held within the region served by Breathe California of the Bay Area. This year, the City of San Jose, Mayfair Community Center, is partnering with Breathe California to offer Camp Superstuff. This camp is designed for children 6-12 suffering from asthma, Camp Superstuff blends asthma education curriculum with traditional summer camp activities. Diabetes Camp– Type 1 Children This collaborative day camp program is provided by the City of San Jose's Therapeutic Services and California Diabetes Association. There will be fun activities, outings, games, crafts, and diabetes education. Nursing staff will be on site to help monitor blood sugars and provide education to participants and families. Registration is taken by the California Diabetes Association. Please contact Kat at 775-856-3839 or online at www.nda.campviews.com Healthy Challenge Type 2 Diabetes Camp Is your child diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or pre-pre-diabetes? Are they close to being diagnosed? Has your pediatrician encouraged your child to eat healthier, exercise more, or lose weight? If you said YES to any of these questions, then this camp is for you! Come have fun and learn about healthy lifestyle choices. This is a camp with art, sports, activities, healthy snacks, and diabetes education. A diabetes educator and dietician will be at the camp to answer questions and teach healthy living skills. Camp staff will get the kids moving and having fun! Ages 8-15. This camp is a joint collaboration between the City of San Jose and the American Diabetes Association. Children must qualify for this camp.
