ELEMENTS OF STYLE
Fashion is a great way to explore your creativity and express yourself. Some might say that knowing your element can help you understand yourself better, which is why in this issue's 'Get The Look,' we're diving into the four elements—Water, Earth, Fire, and Air—to inspire your next style transformation. Each element brings a unique vibe, and we're showcasing how SKY Girls can embrace their individuality through fashion.
Air
Soft Girl Era
Air-inspired fashion is all about ethereal elegance. Soft colors like white, baby blue, different shades of nude for a soft feminine look. You can go for a cute nude flowy blouse and a nude puffer jacket, paired with a nice pair of white joggers and sneakers and a touch of jewelry that compliment the look! Air girls are all about grace and subtlety.
The water element inspired fashion, is all about making a splash with streetwear flair. Think shades of blue, from soothing sky tones to deep navy hues. You could pair denim jeans with a bright blue smart tee and add a statement blueprint vest to add to the look. Finish the look with a clean pair of boots and wear some jewelry to add some zaa to the look. Blend comfort and style to create an effortless fit!
Earthy tones like different shades of green to bring out a natural, effortless vibe. When you think of the earth element, think of Bantu knots with gold hair accessories and a green dress with a white long-sleeved turtle-neck and white comfy slippers to finish the look!
Earth girls are all about free-spiritedness! and embracing their natural beauty.
Fire Earth Earthy Chic
Boldness
Fire-inspired fashion is all about making a bold statement. A palette of fiery reds, brick orange and black. Pair a fiery red bodysuit with comfy brick orange pants and add some white shoes to compliment the look! Fire girls are all about confidence and unapologetic self-expression, besties.
Your element is not just a personality trait, bestie! It's a fashion statement! Whether you're a Water girl with a passion for streetwear, an Earth girl with a love for an earthy look, a Fire girl with a flair for drama, or an Air girl with a taste for soft elegance, your element is the key to unlocking your unique style. Embrace your creative side, and explore what your things are and what not your things are in fashion!

Dear Lombe,
Hi. It’s you but from the future. Weird, I know, but I’m writing to give you a word of encouragement that you might very much need. I’m currently 22 years old, so I believe I have enough experience to give you this advice. Plus, what better person to get it from than your older self? I’ll get right into it!
First things first, believe in yourself and your abilities. I know you think very little of yourself, but as small as you are, you have something mighty within you. As you get older, it will start to unveil itself. So don’t be afraid to try new things or step out of your comfort zone. I know you’re shy and your insecurities are many right now, but in time, they will pass. You don’t know it yet, but the world needs you to walk in your purpose. Your purpose is tied to thousands of people across the world. Even they don’t know that they need you. So keep your head up and take heart.
Second, you are loved. I know you might not feel like it, but believe me when I say you are. It’s very easy to let your negative experiences with your loved ones overshadow the love they have for you, but don’t ever doubt the love that your family and friends have for you. You live in an imperfect world with imperfect people. Give them grace for their imperfections, just as God gives you grace for yours.
That leads me to my next point: friends. I know you’re Ms. Independent, but you can’t stay that way for too long. You need people, and that’s okay! We weren’t designed to be lone wolves. Even Jesus had friends. Make friends and share experiences with them. Laugh, cry, fight, and make up. Experience it all! However, as you make friends, be careful with who you choose. Don’t follow the crowd because you want to look cool or fit in. You were not made to fit in; you were made to stand out!
The fourth point is to be yourself. Your uniqueness is your superpower. It’s the only thing that you have that others don’t. Let your personality shine. Don’t box it up because you’re afraid of what other people will say or think. If anything, what others say and think should be the least of your worries. It is not what others think that defines you but what you think of yourself and what God says about you. Continue to hold on to the values
With love,
Lombe Posa
that your parents have taught you. It might feel like they’re nagging right now, but in a few years, you’ll appreciate every time they did it.
Work hard and focus on your studies. I know that right now you don’t really enjoy school, but I promise you’re way smarter than you think you are. You’re capable of doing anything you set your mind on. Pursue the things you are passionate about and don’t be afraid to dream big. Do your best not only to secure your future but also as a token of appreciation to your parents for all the effort they have put into giving you a bright future. However, as you do this, don’t forget to have fun. Education is important, but your mental health and happiness are more important. You will fail many times, but don’t let those moments define you. Try again and get better each time.
Next, don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re still growing and you still have much to learn. There will be many areas where you will lack, but don’t let them steal your confidence. You have as many strengths as you have weaknesses. Acknowledge your weaknesses and use them to your advantage. Always be kind to others, but be kind to yourself too.
Take time to build a relationship with God. I know you’re tired of hearing it from your mom, but trust her on that one. God will be a source of strength, guidance, and comfort throughout your life, so spend time in prayer and reading the Word. Seek to understand the Lord more deeply, and you will discover new dimensions of yourself. Trust in God's plan for you, even when things seem uncertain. He will help you navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience.
Lastly, cherish your family. These are the people who will support you through thick and thin. Spend time with your family and friends, appreciate them, and let them know how much they mean to you any chance you get.
You have an amazing journey ahead of you, filled with ups and downs, successes and failures. But through it all, remember that you are strong, you are capable, you are smart, and you are loved. Remember to always stay true to yourself!
Keep your head up and your heart open. The future is bright, and it’s all yours to shape.
Lombe Posa.

INTRODUCING THE TIKULA SEASON 3 CAST
The excitement is building up as the much-anticipated third season of Tikula is set to hit our screens this September. As Zambia's very first teen drama series, Tikula has captured the hearts of many, bringing relatable stories and vibrant characters to life.
But guess what?
Remember we said bye to Nandi, Mimi, Maya, Bosco and Ghost at the end of last season - prom night? So that means we’re seeing new friends (and foes) this season!
For those new to the series, Tikula is a captivating drama that follows the lives of teenagers navigating the ups and downs of life as a teenager in Zambia. Tikula tackles real-life issues faced by us today, from friendship and romance to personal growth and challenges. It’s like seeing your life played out on TV, might even help you solve some of your own dilemmas.
After auditions that saw several people vying for a role on Tikula, we can now exclusively give you the tea on who will be lighting up your screens this season! Read on to learn more about the new leading cast of Tikula!
Toni
Played by Cicely-Faith Shebele
Cicely-Faith here, I’ve always been obsessed with acting and films. Watching movies growing up made me wonder how actors could transform into such different characters. I used to dream about seeing myself on TV, but I never imagined it would actually happen this soon!
Honestly, my plan was to go to university first and then start pushing for my acting career. So when I got the call saying I landed the lead role on Tikula, I was in total shock! During the audition, I thought I did terribly, I forgot my lines and messed up part of my dance routine. I was just hoping for a callback as an extra, so getting a main role, playing Toni, was beyond crazy for me.
My friends, my mom, my brother, and my sisters are my biggest supporters. They keep me motivated and remind me to stay positive. I love them all so much.
MyThing NOT Being Broke Being DormantSmoking Film Photography Fashion My
Cicely-Faith’s Pro tip on staying confident and true to yourself: One thing you should always do is talk about yourself in a positive way. It really helps you stay confident and believe in yourself. I always remind myself that I’m beautiful and capable, and that makes a huge difference.
Besides acting, I’m all about DIY projects. I love weaving, sewing, and making things with my hands because I can’t stand being idle.
So who is Toni?
With an enigmatic aura surrounding her, Toni has a deep-seated secrecy, revealing little about her personal life and motives. Her life’s ambition is to be a great dancer known worldwide. Toni’s passion and dedication shine through her incredible dancing talent, which she uses not only as an artistic outlet but as a means to connect with her sister.
Despite her reserved nature, Toni's performances speak volumes, showcasing a profound emotional depth and a fierce determination. The question is, will her secret haunt her, or will she allow her past to fuel her future?
Taonga
Played by Angel Kolala
Acting has always been my passion, ever since I started performing in school plays. Joining Tikula has been an incredible journey of hard work, dedication, and a little bit of luck. It’s been so exciting with some unexpected twists along the way!
One of my funniest audition moments was when I had to pretend I was preparing for a show and, oops, I twisted my ankle! I went all out, dropping to the floor and pretended to cry. It was a hilarious experience that taught me how to stay adaptable and prepared for anything in this industry.
Taonga and I have a lot in common, especially our love for dancing. She’s confident and fierce, but also a bit stubborn and naive. Taonga struggles with seeking validation about her body image, which is something so many of us go through, so I want to see how it works out for her!
My family are huge sources of inspiration for me. Their belief in me, even when I doubted myself, has been a big motivator. They’ve taught me the importance of surrounding yourself with positivity and learning from those who uplift you.
Pro tip on staying confident and true to yourself: For anyone staying true to themselves, remember to stay confident and embrace who you are. Surround yourself with supportive people who help you grow and inspire you. It’s not about what you have but what you do with it that matters the most. Stay true to yourself, and amazing things will come your way!
Who is Taonga: Raised by her aunt and uncle, Taonga seems to have it all together - killer confidence, moves on the dancefloor, queen of the track. But online trolls have her questioning her relationship with Choolwe. As if that’s not enough, her strained relationship with once best friend Nessa threatens to risk the dance competition. Will her blossoming friendship with Toni help fix everything or will she have to learn to validate herself?
Choolwe
Played by Nathan Simunza
I’m Nathan, and I’m super excited to introduce my character, Choolwe, on Tikula!
Choolwe is a Grade 11 student at Skywood High and part of the cool kids crew. He’s an athlete and a fast runner who dedicates a lot of time to training. He’s also kind, generous, and hardworking. But Choolwe finds it difficult to defend his loved ones, especially Taonga, and stand up for them.
It’s going to be interesting to see how his character develops and how he learns to stand up for what he believes in.
I’ve always been a huge fan of good movies, and a while back, I decided to dive into scriptwriting. That’s when it hit me, if I love films this much, why not get into acting too? I started networking with people who share the same passion, and we even have a little drama group in Lusaka West where I write scripts. When I heard about the Tikula auditions, I went for it and landed the role!
One crazy story from my audition journey is about the bus I took to get there, it had faulty brakes! But that day made me realize that if something is meant to happen, God will make it happen. I did my second audition, got a callback, and it was an amazing experience. Every moment was worth it, and I enjoyed it all.
I get inspiration from everything around me, and I listen to a lot of music. I want to reach that level someday. I aspire to be someone people look up to, and that drives me.
Nathan’s Pro tip on staying confident and true to yourself: My advice is to stay true to your goals and not get influenced by others. You’ll achieve all you want because you are unique.
Vanessa
Played by Mukuka Musonda
My love for acting started from watching tons of series. I always found myself wanting to be in shows like Grownish and Gossip Girl. When I saw the casting call for Tikula, I thought, "Why not give it a try?" And guess what? Tikula was on my 2024 vision board, and now I get to say that I’m part of the cast. It’s so surreal! When it comes to inspiration, I look up to people making waves in the areas I want to succeed in. In music, Beyoncé and Tyla are my go-to motivators. In life, I aspire to be the best version of myself that God created me to be. My biggest influencer of all time is the opportunity for growth.
One way to stay true to yourself and confident is by finding what makes you unique and special. When you figure that out, no one can take it away from you. A quote I love is, "They can try to steal your sauce, but no one can take that recipe away from you." Why try to be like others when others can try to be like you?
Contrary to my role as Vanessa, I’m actually quite the bubbly person. I might come off as extroverted, but I’m pretty shy. I have a feeling that Vanessa and I will go through some intense character development together.
Who is Nessa?
Vanessa, or Nessa is a great dancer, currently a trending dance influencer, with dreams of becoming an actress and dancer. Her role models are Zendaya and Parris Goebel. Nessa is controlling but secretly is struggling to deal with her overbearing mother, who insists Nessa must be the best at everything. Will this be enough to help Nessa and her crew win the coveted dance competition or does Vanessa need to do some soul searching to find her inner strength?
Played by David Tupaki
After finishing high school, I auditioned for Turn of Fortune and got the role of James, working with Lawrence Thompson from 2020-2022 on Zambezi Magic. When I saw the post for Tikula auditions, I decided to go for it. Even though I was shaking and not prepared, I gave it my all, and they called me back. It was such an exciting moment!
Michael is quite an interesting character. As Vanessa’s twin brother, he’s an organizer and mediator, and he tends to be non-confrontational. His biggest ambition is to become a successful entrepreneur. Michael brings a sense of responsibility and is generally cool-tempered. It’s going to be fascinating to see how his character grows throughout the season.
When it comes to inspiration, I look up to so many people. Kate Graham from The Vampire Diaries, Will Smith, and China M. McClain are just a few. Personally, I’m inspired by people who have made it in life because it makes me believe I can do it too.
David’s Pro tip on staying confident and true to yourself: Staying true to yourself is super important because you don’t want to lose who you are.
Joshua
Played by Farai Mhlanga
Wagwan, SKY Fam! I’m Farai, and I’m excited to tell you about my character, Joshua, on Tikula!
Joshua is quite the character—he’s an athlete, super fast on the track, and he’s got this whole seductive, manipulative vibe going on. He’s also pretty egotistical and fragile, with a rigid attitude. What’s funny is that Joshua loves partying, which is totally not me at all!
Acting has always been my thing. I’ve loved being on screen for as long as I can remember. When I saw the ads for Tikula auditions, I decided to give it a shot. I stayed natural, spoke from the heart, and it worked out! Landing this role was a mix of being myself and a bit of luck.
During auditions, I was pretty intimidated by the number of people trying out. But I kept my cool, stayed patient, and it turned out to be my time to shine.
Farai’s Pro tip on staying true to yourself: My advice is simple: be yourself and make sure it aligns with what the Bible says. Focus, put in the effort, and stay patient. Always be ready to grow and sprout—don’t just sit still.
Remember, it’s your world, so write your own story and don’t let anyone else dictate it!
Chisanga
Played by Mutale Kataso “Chichi”
I’m absolutely pumped to share a bit about my role as Chisanga in Tikula! It’s been a wild ride getting here. My dad used to call me Michael Scofield when I was a kid, and while I didn’t really understand it then, I now realize he saw my love for acting long before I did. After auditioning for Tikula Season 2 and not making it, I didn’t let that stop me. This year, I gave it my all, and landing a role is a huge win!
Chisanga is one of those characters with a lot of confidence and big dreams, he’s the Vice President of the Debate Team and has his sights set on becoming a top lawyer. He’s got this undeniable charm and smarts that make him stand out, even though he might not fit the typical ‘cool’ mold. Watching him learn to listen more and become more self-aware is going to be really exciting!
One of my favorite audition moments was when I walked in with locs and they didn’t even recognize me from Boys N Bants! It was such a fun surprise. When I’m not acting, I’m all about watching TV series, dancing, making YouTube videos, and writing poetry.
Fave snacks: Potato chips? They’re my go-to snack! Pro tip on staying true to yourself: For anyone chasing their dreams, my advice is to find your passion and stick with it. Steer clear of negativity and focus on your own journey rather than comparing yourself to others. Remember, persistence pays off, and staying committed is the way to go. As the saying goes, “seedlings today, forest tomorrow.”
I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve received and can’t wait for you to see Chisanga in Tikula. Keep believing in yourself and remember, great things are on the way!

MyThing NOT Negativity Dishonesty Gossip
Imagine waking up every day, knowing you’re making a difference in kids' lives and boosting your community’s spirit. That’s the magic Mainga Banda gets to experience as the founder of M'simbi Stores and Eqwpe Clothing Factory. Her mission? To inspire kids to love themselves and feel super confident. Plus, with Eqwpe, she’s creating high-quality, locally-made clothes and jobs, making a positive impact right in her own backyard.
Before Mainga started her entrepreneurial journey, she spent 15 years working with UNICEF across various countries. She chose this path because she’s passionate about empowering kids and giving back to her community. Starting her own businesses felt like the ultimate glow-up, perfectly blending her values with her drive to support local economic growth.
Getting to where she is now wasn’t a walk in the park. It took hard work, determination, and a fierce passion for making a difference. "I started with a clear vision and called for the necessary support and resources to bring that vision to life. Surrounding myself with a supportive team and continuously learning from my experiences helped me grow into the role of a founder."
M'simbi Stores has been rocking since 2017, and Eqwpe Clothing Factory joined the scene in 2023. Mainga’s been killing it in retail and manufacturing for years, and it’s clear she’s all about making a positive impact with her businesses. Her education journey is pretty impressive, too.
She started out at South End Primary, then rocked it at Kasisi Girls and Munali Secondary doing great in Civics, English, and Math. Because she excelled in those subjects, she chose to pursue Development Studies at the University of Zambia, then went on to bag a master’s in Public Health from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Oh, and she didn’t stop there, sis, she also got a postgrad in Monitoring and Evaluation from Stellenbosch University. Talk about brainy and bossy!
Mainga’s first job was as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at an Non-Governmental Organization, where she learned the importance of hard work, numbers, and great customer service.
In her current role, she combines strong leadership, creativity, and a genuine passion for making a difference. Plus, understanding business management and customer service is key, bestie!
Let’s catch up with Mainga the inspiring entrepreneur behind M simbi Stores and Eqwpe Clothing Limited She’s all about making kids feel awesome and slaying the local fashion game Ready to dive into her world Let’s go besties
One of Mainga’s best career decisions was transitioning from her corporate job to start M'simbi Stores. "It allowed me to combine my passion for children's empowerment with my entrepreneurial spirit." But, like all journeys, it had its ups and downs. Early on, she hesitated to take risks, but she learned that sometimes, taking those risks can lead to the most rewarding opportunities.
If she could go back, she’d seek mentorship earlier. "Having a mentor can provide invaluable guidance and support." Her greatest strength is her resilience and focus on her goals, even when things get tough. On the flip side, being a perfectionist is a challenge she’s working on, especially when it affects her team.
Looking ahead, Mainga sees the industry shifting towards local manufacturing and growing homegrown brands, with more emphasis on supporting local communities. She’s currently reading "The Confidence Code for Girls" by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, a must-read for teen girls looking to embrace their strengths and build confidence.
So, what’s Mainga’s secret to success? "Persistence, a clear vision, and a strong support network. Always stay true to your values and never be afraid to ask for help." For teen girls wanting to follow in her footsteps, Mainga’s advice is simple: "Believe in yourself and your vision. Don’t be afraid to take risks and learn from your mistakes. Surround yourself with supportive people who encourage you to grow and succeed."
One of Mainga’s favorite motivational quotes is by Albert Schweitzer: "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." She draws inspiration from strong women in the clothing industry, like Folake Coker and Adenike Ogunlesi, who motivate her to keep striving for excellence.
In her personal life, Mainga values honesty, loyalty, and positivity in her friends. She starts each day with some "me time", quiet moments to listen to music and reflect. As she’s gotten older, she’s come to treasure this peaceful alone time. Podcasts about business also keep her motivated and inspired.
As she continues to slay in the fashion industry, Mainga’s all about empowering others and staying true to her roots. Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience, passion, and staying true to oneself. So, SKY fam, remember: "Believe in your dreams, take those risks, and keep shining bright!"
POETRY CORNER
I am a girl.
I'm a girl, told to conform, Limited by ancient rules and norms.
Scars fill my heart, I'm deemed weak, told I can't walk alone in the night, my spirit seeks.
"Don't draw attention, don't explore", "Be humble, quiet, obedient, and more". Cook and stay home, don't express yourself too much, But I'm a girl born to ride royal horses, with a spirit that clutch.
I'm a fountain of wisdom, a mountain of knowledge too, A creative girl child with big dreams, and high hopes anew.
I'm not a book to be used and returned to the shelf, Nor a glass to be shattered by anger's wealth.
I'll rise above the noise, the norms, the fray, And shine with individuality, in my own way.

In the land of sunny skies, where hopes and dreams arise, There dwells SKY girls with hearts so brave and wise. Their spirits soar like eagles, reaching for the highest peak, Their love for one another, a bond that's pure and meek. Through the trials they face, they embody strength and grace, Fighting for a brighter future, they're the stars in every space. With dreams as vast as the open sky, they push through every storm, Their determination never fades, as they transform and transform. With hearts so full of kindness, they spread love with a beautiful smile, In their hands, they hold the power to make this world worthwhile. In classrooms where they gather, like a beacon in the night, They empower one another, their futures shining bright. With pens as mighty swords, they write their stories bold, Their voices echoing loudly, in a tale yet to be told. They are the SKY girls of Zambia, their dreams they shall achieve, For they believe in their power, the power to inspire and believe. With strength in unity, they lift each other's spirits high, Together, they conquer mountains, reaching for the endless sky. They are the daughters of the sun, the stars guiding them ahead, In their hands, they hold the power to change the world they tread. SKY girls, have courage and might, For they are the embodiment of hope, shining through the darkest night. May their spirits never falter, as they continue to inspire, SKY girls Zambia, your love and light will never retire.

Crocheted
By Daisy Chulu
Hats
First you have to know how to hold your crochet hook. There are two widely used methods of holding a crochet hook.
1- The Pencil Grip: you hold your hook just like you would hold your pencil.
2- Knife Grip: You hold your crocheting hook the way you hold dinner(table) knife.
Remember to find a grip that’s comfortable for you and use whichever hand you’re flexible with whether your right hand or left hand.
Now that we are equipped Grab your favorite yarn find a cozy spot and let’s get those hooks moving
Instructions Step1
(hat Base)
Create a magic ring.
To create a magic ring in crochet, follow these steps:
Hold the yarn tail between your thumb and ring finger. Allow the working yarn to rest over your index and middle fingers and Form a Loop by crossing the working yarn over the tail to form a loop. The working yarn end should be behind the tail end.
Insert the Hook: Insert your crochet hook under the first strand of yarn and grab the second strand with the hook.
Pull Through: Pull the second strand of yarn through the first loop and repeat this process until you have the number of chains you need.
Wagwan, crochet, queens!
Ready to add some serious style to your wardrobe? Let’s create a super cute, totally trendy ruffle hat that’s perfect for any season. Whether you’re a crochet newbie or a pro, this DIY project is as fun as it is fashionable.
What is crocheting? You may ask? Crocheting is a craft that involves creating fabric from yarn or thread using a hooked needle called a crochet hook, turning simple threads into cozy blankets, stylish clothes, cute lil hats, scrunchies and many more!
Materials Needed:
Yarn: Choose a yarn that screams you!
Crochet hook Or yarn needle: For weaving in loose ends and sewing pieces together. A 4mm or 4.5mm(I) hook is perfect for this project.
Note: Crochet hooks come in different sizes and materials such as metal, plastic, bamboo and wood. Pick whichever you are comfortable with.
Scissors: For cutting yarn and trimming loose ends
Basic Stitches Needed:
Slip knot: A slip knot is the first knot you create on your crochet hook to begin a project. It’s adjustable and serves as the foundation from which you start your initial chain stitches or the first round of stitches for your project.
Chain stitch (ch): is a looped stitch, it involves creating a series of loops on a hook, each loop is pulled through the previous one.
Single crochet (sc): It creates a dense fabric by pulling yarn through two loops on the hook.
Double crochet (dc): Is a stitch that creates a taller loose fabric by pulling yarn through three loops on the hook.
Increase (inc): Means adding stitches by working two or more stitches into the same stitch from the previous row or round.
Step2
Start creating your first stitches by looping the yarn over the needle.
Chain Stitch: Chain one to secure the ring.
Step3 Step4
Keep the needle steady with the stitches you already made. Take the yarn and wrap it around the needle. Pull the yarn through the loop to create the next stitch. Keep doing this to keep crocheting your hat!
Step6
Secure your work. complete your last double crochet stitch and place a stitch marker to keep track of your rows and make sure your stitches are even and everything looks neat.
Step5
When you are satisfied with your desired length of the circle, in the last row, put one loop in one spot, then two loops in the next spot. Keep doing this all the way around to make the ruffles pop and stand out more!
Once you're done with the ruffles and are happy with the size of them, cut the yarn with the scissors, leaving a little bit of extra length. Thread the extra yarn through the last loop on your crochet hook to secure it.
Step7
Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends into the hat to make sure everything is neat and tidy.
Step8
Thread the piece of yarn through the yarn needle. And tada! You’ve got a chic ruffle hat that’s ready to rock with any outfit. Feel free to customize it with different colors and decorations to make it uniquely you .
Why Creativity Rocks Hey SKY Girls!
Today, we’re talking about creativity and how it can help you express your awesome, unique self. Whether you’re into drawing, painting, writing, making music and dancing like ‘Triple Threat’, or any other kind of art, tapping into your creativity is a fantastic way to show the world who you really are. Let’s explore how you can embrace your creative side and discover more about yourself along the way.
Creativity isn’t just about making things look cool (although that’s definitely a part of it). It’s about expressing what’s inside your heart and mind. When you create, you’re sharing a piece of your soul with the world, and that’s pretty amazing.
C.R.E.A.T.E.
Your Path to Self Discovery
Here are some tips to help you remember how to embrace your creative journey:
Curiosity: Always stay curious. Ask questions, explore new things, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Curiosity is the first step to being creative.
Risk-Taking: Don’t be scared to take risks. It’s okay to make mistakes, that’s how you learn and get better. Every artist started somewhere!
Expression: Find what helps you express yourself best. Maybe it’s drawing, dancing, writing poems, or playing music. Let your creativity shine.
Authenticity: Be yourself. Don’t copy others just to fit in; your unique perspective is what makes your creativity special.
Time: Make time for your creative activities. Even a few minutes a day can make a big difference.
Enjoyment: Have fun! Creativity should be about joy, not stress. Enjoy the process of making something new.
Music
Playing an instrument or singing can be a great way to let out your emotions. Chanda, who’s learning guitar, said that playing her favourite songs boosted her confidence. "Whenever I play, I feel like I’m telling a story without words."
Tips to Kickstart
Your Creativity
Ready to get creative?
Here are some tips to help you start:
Set Up a Creative Space: Find a spot where you can relax and get into your creative zone. It could be a corner of your room or even outside in nature.
Keep a Journal: Write down your creative ideas, thoughts, and feelings. It’s a great way to get inspired and see how you grow over time.
Join a Club or Group: Connect with others who love the same creative activities. Whether it’s a school club or an online group, sharing your passion with others can be super inspiring.
Experiment: Try out different types of art. You never know what you might fall in love with until you give it a shot.
Practice Regularly: The more you create, the better you’ll get. Make time for your creative hobbies regularly.
The Magic of Different Art Forms
Different types of art let you express yourself in different ways. Here are a few to try out:
Art
Drawing, painting, and crafting are perfect for showing what’s in your heart. One of our readers, Tasha, used painting to cope with school stress. "When I painted, I felt like I was pouring all my worries onto the canvas. It was such a relief!"
Writing
Journaling, poetry, and stories let you put your thoughts and dreams into words. Mwila, another reader, found that writing poetry helped her understand her feelings. "Writing poems about my experiences made me realise things about myself I never noticed before."
Remember, SKY Girls, your creativity is a powerful way to express who you are and grow as a person. Embrace it with all your heart and enjoy the journey. The world is waiting to see what amazing things you’ll create! Stay curious, be bold, and most importantly, have fun with your creativity. Until next time, keep shining and creating! Stay True to YOU! Love, Auntie B

What's up, besties! Hope you're all excited for this issue's Sporty Girls Matter because we're gonna be talking about gaming as a sport. You read that right, sis! Gaming is literally a whole vibe where you dive into video games, compete with friends, and sometimes even strangers online. It's like your favorite sport but with a controller in hand, tons of strategy, and epic battles.
ESPORTS GAMING
Did You Know?
Girls are making serious moves in the esports world! In fact, studies show that nearly 30% of esports players are female, and that number is growing every year! Some female gamers are even earning big bucks and winning major tournaments. So, grab your controller, join the game, and show everyone that girls can dominate the esports scene too!
Local Star Power
Right here in Zambia, we have Malindi “Mali-Chan” Chipenzi, an inspiring female gamer who’s been slaying it in the local esports scene here in Zambia.
Even though she's kinda new to esports and doesn't really see herself as a hardcore competitive gamer, she's already making serious waves. She's into playing a few games competitively, and trust, her name is getting known real quick.
I know that it feels like us girls have to prove ourselves and work hard to be noticed, especially in spaces like gaming which are dominated by dudes! Some guys can try and throw shade just 'cause she doesn’t play certain games. But Mali-Chan? She’s got that vibe that says, "I’m here to stay." She's found her tribe with other girl gamers who got her back, and that's what’s up!
One of her biggest flexes was when she bagged third place in the women's Mortal Kombat 11 tournament at Nerd|Otaku’s "The Meet." Can you imagine? First tournament and she's already on the podium with a prize! Goals, right?
For all my Zed queens thinking about jumping into esports, Mali-Chan’s got some dope advice: "Find a game that you’re vibing with and keep grinding to level up. Get into online gaming communities to meet other players and keep up with the local tourneys, like those Nerd|Otaku Zambia throws down. Get yourself some lit gear, balance gaming with your school hustle, and surround yourself with supportive friends and fellow gamers. Stay hyped, stay strong, and maybe even look into some coaching to boost your skills. With enough passion and grind, you can totally own the esports world."
And babes, don't sleep on this, show off your skills! "Nerd|Otaku is the perfect spot to flex your gaming muscles. They’re always hosting events where you can shine. Plus, social media is where it's at! I've met so many cool gamers just by sharing my content online. Posting your gaming vids is a fire way to show everyone what you’re made of."
Gaming isn't just a sport; it's also an awesome hobby and a fab way to spend time with your besties. You can bond over shared victories, create epic memories, and even make new penpals from around the world.
So next time someone tells you gaming isn't a real sport, just remember: it takes just as much dedication and passion as any other sport out there! So, get out there, slay those games, and let the world know who's boss!

Coming this September
A Zambian teen mini-series
A new season. On ZNBC.
Magazine. Socials. Hub. Community. For teen girls only!
How can I be confident in myself and do things that make me happy?
SKY GIRL 1: Prioritize yourself more, and surround yourself with positive energy. @victoria_josy17
SKY GIRL 2: Don’t seek validation from other people. Sometimes, others’ opinions make you a shadow of your own self. @tamika_desilva
SKY GIRL 3: Surround yourself with positive and supportive people, their encouragement and uplifting energy can make you feel more confident and motivated. It’s like having a cheer squad by your side, cheering you on! @naomiphiri92
SKY Aunty B: Confidence is something we all struggle with at times, but here’s a little secret: it’s like a muscle—the more you work on it, the stronger it gets. Start by identifying what makes you happy. Is it drawing, playing a sport, or maybe helping others? Dive into those activities. Remember, confidence grows when you step out of your comfort zone. For instance, think about how good it feels to learn a new TikTok dance. You might be nervous at first, but as you practice, you get better and more confident. Surround yourself with positive people who lift you up, and always celebrate your small victories. You're amazing just the way you are! Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq
Keep me anonymous - I need some advice. So I really, really like this guy, and everyone (including him) tells me he's not good for me. I personally agree he's not, but I just feel a strong connection to him, like he's the one. He told me there's no point in dating because he's all the way in Australia, and I'm all the way here. He also said even if he wanted to, he can't, and communication sucks, not gonna lie. But I don't know…
SKY GIRL 1: At this point, it’s not even about your feelings, sis! The connection can be there, and you can feel it, but the fact that he is able to tell you himself that he isn’t good for you all comes back to the notion “if he wanted to, he would,” and he is definitely not going to give you peace. There will always be somebody who is willing to show you love without any conditions! @xx._.lorraine
SKY GIRL 2: One thing I know is that love is worth fighting for as long as you don’t lose yourself and go insane. @hannah.chipoh
SKY GIRL 3: Sis, forget about the guy, spend time with people who love and appreciate you! @jacl.yn896
SKY Aunty B: I get it—feelings can be super strong and confusing. It’s important to listen to your heart, but also to your mind. This guy is being honest with you, and that's something to appreciate. Long-distance relationships can be really challenging, especially when communication isn't great. Take a step back and think about what you truly want. Do you want to invest your emotions in someone who isn’t fully available? Focus on yourself, your goals, and the people around you who can be there for you right now. You deserve someone who can give you their full attention and love, without the added stress of distance. Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq
How can I deal with Mental stress and fatigue?
SKY GIRL 1: Take a break from social media, try meditation and get enough sleep. @thee_softgirl_sophie
SKY GIRL 2: For managing stress indulge in activities like exercise, reading a novel, magazine or even a coloring book and for fatigue take a bath and do some fatigue exercise courses. @hearts.from_alice
SKY Aunty B: Dealing with stress and fatigue is tough, but you’re not alone. First, make sure you're getting enough sleep and eating well. It sounds basic, but it's so important. Try setting aside "me time" every day, even if it's just for 15 minutes. During this time, do something you love—listen to your favorite music, doodle, or simply take a walk. Also, don’t be afraid to talk about your feelings. Sharing with a friend or family member can lighten the load. Imagine your mind as a phone battery—you need to recharge it regularly, or it won't function properly. Take care of yourself, girl!
Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq
There's this guy I was dating. He was a very caring and loving boyfriend. He has a great personality, and when I was in grade 12, he would help me study and all that. Our relationship stood the test of time because we dated for four years. But as time went by, communication somehow reduced, and in the end, he decided to break up with me. I didn't know what to do or say, so I just replied "okay" to the breakup text because he said he didn't love me anymore, which really hurt me a lot. But now I feel bad for not saying anything at that time-maybe things could have gone differently. I don't know if I should talk to him or meet up with him, or maybe I should just let go and move on. Please, I need your advice, girls.
SKY GIRL 1: Let him know how you felt, but don't seem like you want him back. If he was the one, he wouldn't have left you like that. Don't get caught up in "what could have been"; everything happens for a reason. If he wanted to stay, he would have. Plus, he was disrespectful. Know your worth and walk away when you're not valued. Meeting him again isn't worth it. Let your feelings out, but don't seem desperate, he might already be with someone else. It will be tough, but you'll find the right person. Take your time and love yourself first.
@ll_lusungu
SKY GIRL 2: Gurlll! You need to let him go and love yourself more! You are probably thinking this way because you don’t wanna be alone. The past is the past and you can’t change that but you can change how you look at future relationships.
@mad.fren_zyy
SKY GIRL 3: Try to talk to him about it. If things are really meant to work out, they will but if not, girl pack up your bags! @sasha_ngosa
SKY Aunty B: Breakups can be hard, especially when you've shared so much with someone. It's normal to have regrets, but remember, you did the best you could in that moment. Sometimes, closure isn't about getting answers from the other person, but about finding peace within yourself. If you feel it will help, you could reach out and share your feelings, but only if you're ready for whatever response you might get. Otherwise, focus on healing and moving forward. Think of it like this: when you finish reading a book, you don’t keep rereading the last chapter. Instead, you start a new book, full of new adventures and possibilities. Your next chapter is waiting, and it’s going to be amazing. Stay strong! Aunty B @innersafariquest_isq
