It’s your girl Renesther, you already know the catch! It’s that time of the year when we spread love and gratitude to each other - a season of joy, laughter, kindness, and of course, boosting our self-esteem and confidence. This issue of the SKY Mag is all about showing ourselves some love and embracing empowerment.
That means having a positive, compassionate relationship with yourself - no judgement, no criticism. During this season, I want to encourage each of you to love and take care of yourselves, because not only is it physically healthy, but it’s also crucial for your mental health too. Practice self-love by reminding yourself every day that you are enough, you are strong, you are beautiful, and you are worthy. You feel me? And if you want to know more ways to practice self-love, check out pages 7 and 16&17 of the mag.
I practice self-love by taking myself out once in a while. I invest in my mental and physical health by being positive and buying myself nice clothes.
This issue is also all about empowerment.
Manje, empowerment ndiye vichani? Simply put, it’s about gaining control and confidence over your life, your decisions, and your actions. Empowerment helps you bring out the best version of yourself because you’re in control - you know what you want and what you don’t want, what’s your thing and what’s not. For example, I love modeling, and it empowers me to become a better version of myself! So, what do YOU love, and how do you practice self-love through it?
Did you know there's a difference between wearing something and styling something? It’s so cool to realize how you can elevate your fit with just a few tweaks. If you want to learn more about how to step up your fashion game, check out pages 8&9 of the mag to Get The Look! As we continue into the new year, always remember to love yourself immensely. Keep God at the forefront of everything you do, pray often, stay true to who you are and what you believe in, and always trust yourself to make the best choices.
With love,

Love languages are the ways people show and feel love. Understanding them helps build stronger relationships.
This is how you can apply all the 5 love languages to yourself, besties!
1 2
Words of Affirmation
Speak Self-Love
Write “Nothing can get in my way, I’m unstoppable” or “I will rise to meet my SKY” or “I’m that Girl” on sticky notes and stick them on your mirror. Say them out loud every morning.
Make a self-love playlist that hits just right. Listen to it whenever you need that confidence boost.
Acts of Service
Show Self-Love
Prep your fav snacks or a bomb meal for the week. You gotta feed yourself like the queen you are, sis!
Tidy up your space with cute decor or even some cozy vibes. A clean space = a clear mind.
3
Treat Yourself
Buy yourself some cute flowers or a little something from your wishlist. Ain’t no harm in treating yourself, girl!
Save up for that one item you’ve been eyeing, like a skincare set or a dope hoodie. You deserve it, babe.
4
Quality Time
Set a date with yourself. Watch your fav movie, chill, and vibe solo.
Journal your thoughts, doodle, or make a vision board. Dream big and let your ideas flow.
5
Physical Touch
Be With Yourself Feel Self-Love
Give yourself a mini spa day. Face masks, pedicures, and body scrubs - get that glow.
Moisturize, rub on some oils, and thank your body for carrying you through the day.
Reminder:
Babe, Zikonde - love yourself first, 'cause when you do, everything else falls into place. You’re worthy of all the love, so treat yourself like royalty!

Tomboy Street Style Vibes
Grab a classic rugby shirt with faded dark jeans and some fresh Jordans. For a little extra fun, go for a rubber band hairstyle to add that pop of color. Simple, sporty, and effortless.
Throwing on a tee and jeans? Sure, it works for a chill day, but let’s be real - it can look a little blah... That’s why, as the best-dressed gen (shoutout to Gen Z), we’ve mastered the art of leveling up everyday looks.
It’s all about styling, not just wearing clothes. With a few tweaks, you can go from basic to unforgettable. After all, it’s the little details that make an outfit pop. So, don’t let your outfit wear you - own it! Vala kuti uzioneka bwino!
Level Up Your Look: From Basic to Styled
Turning it Up
Okay, now let’s have some fun! Tie the back of the rugby shirt to turn it into a cute crop, showing off the waistband. Add a red neck tie as a belt and tie it to the side. A cap (if you’re feelin’ it, sis!) will complete the look. Accessories are key here, so load up on pearls, bracelets, and maybe throw in some shades/glasses for extra swag. You’re basically ready to slay the streets!

Girly Girl Vibes
It’s giving princess! A white bubble dress paired with white wedge shoes - so soft, so chic.

All About the Details
Let’s make it extra cute! Add some sleeves to your dress by upcycling white tights (yes, sleeves!), and pair it with white see-through leggings for that dreamy vibe
Now, accessorize with pearls, of course! Use a claw clip as a dress pin for a pop of color, and finish it off with a pretty white pearly bag. Sweet and stylish, just like you!
Sometimes it’s the small tweaks that turn an outfit from wearing to styling.

As girlies, we often put others first when it comes to showing love, but this V-Day, we’re all about showing ourselves some love in the most exceptional way. We know love isn’t just about how you look, but how you treat yourself inside and out - your emotions, your mental health, all of it. Practicing self-love isn’t selfish, it’s essential.
In this article of Body Beautiful, we're going to talk about how you can show yourself love so that your body can feel more beautiful, strong and confident this valentine, tiyeni nayo!
Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a must because you can’t be your best self for anyone else if you’re not showing up for YOU first! We all talk about it, but how seriously do we take it? Take some time to unwind by treating yourself to a shower, watching a romcom, or vibing to your fave artist. You can also try:
Start speaking to yourself with kindness and compassion. Write down positive affirmations, such as "I am enough," "I am beautiful," or "I am capable," and place them around your home or bedroom.
Repeat them daily, especially when you're feeling stressed or uncertain, show yourself how much you love you, mukashana iwe!
Your body is your trophy, and it deserves to be treated with love and respect. Make healthy choices, such as:
sleep helps build our resilience, and a rested mind is able to take on problems, making it easier for you to solve your problems!
(find an activity that brings you joy!)find 30minutes a day to move your bodywhether it’s walking or dancing, or going to the gym, it keeps you fit, but also helps your mental health.
taking care of your physical health is not about achieving an unrealistic beauty standard (especially yapa social media); it's about feeling strong, energized, and confident in your own skin!
I can say no to things I don’t want to do, even if everyone else is doing them
Learning to say is a powerful act of self-love.
Set healthy boundaries with others to protect your time, energy, and emotional well-being, so pay attention to that, baby girl!
Girl, self-care isn’t selfish - it’s a must!
Putting yourself first helps you glow with confidence, make choices that are actually good for you, and get stronger in every way - mind, body, and vibes. When you’re taking care of you, you can handle anything life throws your way like a total boss!.

Dear Brandina,
I see you standing on the threshold of your teenage years, full of dreams and questions about what the future holds. You might feel uncertain at times, but I promise, your journey ahead will be worth it, even with the challenges that come your way.
Right now, you’re beginning to discover who you are, but let me tell you this: You are destined for greatness. Your path will not be easy, but every obstacle will shape you into the strong, resilient woman you are meant to become. Embrace the lessons life offers, even the painful ones. They will teach you resilience, compassion, and the importance of standing tall in the face of adversity.
You will grow to understand that beauty is not just about how you look, but about the strength, kindness, and courage you carry within. One day you will be an inspiration to many. But beyond that what will truly matter is the lives you touch and the difference you make.
There will be moments when you doubt yourselfdon’t let those doubts win. You are stronger than you know. You will inspire people, raise your voice for the education of girls, and become a beacon of hope for others. Remember, it’s okay to stumble and fall, but never lose sight of your dreams. They are valid, and they are within your reach.
Always hold on to your values, no matter how tough life gets. Learn to forgive yourself when you make mistakes, and never stop growing. Take every opportunity to learn, whether it’s in school, through travel, or in the relationships you build. Stay humble, even as your accomplishments grow, and always remember where you came from.
You have a big heart, Brandina, and that will be your superpower. Use it to lift others, to serve your community, and to empower those who need your light. One day, you will look back on this letter and smile, knowing that every tear, every triumph, and every lesson brought you to where you’re meant to be.
Keep dancing, dreaming, and believing in yourself. The world is waiting for you to shine, and trust me, you will.

BWANJI SKY babes!?
If cooking is your thing and you would like to make a career out of it, ulinamwai because this article is definitely for you, sis! Meet Tehillah Chimfwembe Chilufya and Naphtalie Chimfwembe, the sisters and co-founders of Classic Cuisine Caterers and their main goal is to create unforgettable culinary experiences that bring people together! Are you ready to dive into their world? Let's get right into it!
When did you two realize you had a passion for cooking, and how did you know it was more than just a hobby?
Naphtalie always kinda knew she was into catering, and Tehillah got her start through a friend who roped her in. Our big moment? Tehillah’s wedding! We catered it and everyone was obsessed - so boom, our business took off. Our main thing is creating unforgettable foodie moments with our amazing team backing us up.
As sisters and co-founders, how do you balance work and family without stepping on each other’s toes?
Honestly, we have our moments (which siblings don’t?), but we make it work by turning disagreements into strengths. We’re super intentional about blending work and family life, and our team keeps things running smoothly.
Can someone make a good living from catering? What’s the salary range like for people starting out versus experienced caterers?
Catering can totally pay the bills if you plan right. It’s not always consistent, so budgeting for the slow seasons is a must. Peak times like wedding season? That’s where the money’s at, but pricing smart and showing your value is key. This business can make a range of K10,000 - K20,000 on a monthly basis!
What skills or qualities do you think are super important for someone who wants to succeed in catering?
You don’t need a fancy culinary degree - what really matters is passion, being able to bounce back from setbacks, and having a killer work ethic. Also? Confidence and a strong support system will take you far.
What advice would you give to young girls who love cooking and are thinking about turning it into a career?
Go for it! Be creative, passionate, and bold - there’s room for everyone to thrive in the industry.
What did you study in school, and what classes or programs would you recommend for girls who want to get into catering?
Naphtalie studied social work and project management, and Tehillah has degrees in Law and Social Innovation. If you are interested in catering, local programs like a Certificate in Professional Cookery by Ms. Beez Restaurant Academy offers great opportunities, SKY babes.
This particular course provides hands-on experience and internships at
Have you ever caught feelings for someone and later on realized they aren’t the person you thought they were? If so, nishi article iyi niyako!
Not catching red flags early in a relationship? Yeah, it happens more than you think. That’s why for this issue, we got the Tikula cast (because there were some red and green flags this season!) to spill the tea on love and the red flags you definitely need to watch out for.
A red flag is basically a warning sign or behavior that could mean trouble in a relationship. Here’s what they had to say!
For me, a red flag is lack of fashion sense - Like, you don’t need to be a fashionista to dress well, but at least show some effort! If they can’t bother to put effort into how they present themselves, it might mean they won’t put effort into the relationship either. Lol!
Not having a personality - (or at least a good one. lol). If someone doesn’t have opinions or interests, it might feel like you’re carrying the whole relationship on your own. Relationships should be a two-way street, and if they bring nothing to the table, it could leave you feeling drained or unfulfilled.
Lack of ambition - Somebody that has no goals or passion might hold you back from achieving your own. They could be jealous of your success or just not support you in reaching your goals.
Super Insecure - I’d definitely call it a red flag if someone’s super insecure and ends up projecting their insecurities onto you. Like, they make you feel uncertain about yourself too!
Toxic masculinity - if they can’t tap into their emotional side then it’s a sure fact that they won’t be emotionally there for you.
Cheating - No matter how many excuses they have, if they do something behind your back and it’s something that you don’t like? Stand your ground and leave!
Also, If you feel unsafe both physically or emotionally, sis run!!
A major red flag in my book is being disrespectful towards others. Babe, if someone is disrespectful even if it’s not towards you, it should always be a major turn off!
Dishonesty - Any form of dishonesty; whether it’s lying or hiding the truth, is an instant deal breaker!
Self centeredness - If someone makes everything about themselves, it’s a red flag!
One thing that screams ‘red flag’ to me is an unsupportive partner - A good partner is a supportive one! Always remember that, SKY babes.
Unclear intentions - If someone is not sure of the relationship don’t stick around!
Not being an active listener - The bare minimum in a relationship is being with someone who genuinely cares enough to listen to you. Sad news - if they aren’t an active listener, they’re probably just not that into you.
SKY Girls Zed is all about staying true to yourself, if someone is trying hard to be someone they aren't, it's definitely a red flag.
Emotional instability - (this just means when your feelings are all over the place - one minute you’re happy, and the next, you’re upset, angry, or crying, and you’re not even sure why!)No matter how much you like them if they are not emotionally stable it’s not going to work out! - Note: emotional instability could be a sign of a real medical problem, if you or anyone you know is suffering from emotional instability see a doctor or a therapist to get a medical diagnosis.
Not having any interest in religionNo judgement or anything but if you are someone who is big on religion then you need be with someone whose values align with yours!
Breaking boundaries - If your partner crosses your boundaries, it shows a lack of respect towards you, your needs and interests.
Jealousy and lack of trust - The basis of any healthy relationship is trust. A lack of trust, without a reason, is a HUGE red flag.
A controlling partner - No one likes a control-freak! Take it from me.
Pretending to be someone you’re not - You have to be real to be comfortable!
Disrespect - Be humble and speak before you think.
Being in everyone's businessWhen she wants to be in everyone’s business. Girl, no one likes a nosy partner!
Sis, mu relationship ufunika kuziba vamene ukonda! And if your partner isn’t respectful of that then you need to be ready to call quits. Whether it’s a plutonic or romantic relationship!
By Deborah Malombola
As we all know, February is the month of love!! But who said love is only about being in a relationship? Girl, you matter too! Self-love is so important, and you’re a chibyongo!! Show yourself some love because YOU deserve it. What is self-love?
Self-love is having a high regard for yourself, appreciating who you are, and always prioritizing your needs. It’s about embracing yourself fully and unapologetically.
So, let’s celebrate YOU! Use these prompts to write a love letter to yourself.
Three things I love about myself are
I forgive myself for
What makes you you? We are all unique. Is it your vibe, your talents, or your kindness?
Let go of past mistakes. It’s time to show yourself some grace.
I appreciate myself for
Think of what you value about yourself - your heart, your strength, your uniqueness.
What I love most about myself is
What's that one thing you love most about YOU?
A moment when you felt unstoppable. Celebrate it!
Three things I’m proud of myself for are
Big or small, recognize your wins.
What makes me unique and special is
How
I practice self love and self acceptance is
What sets you apart from everyone else?
Think about how you show up for yourself every day.
Three ways I m going to express myself are
Think about how you confidently share your thoughts, feelings, and creativity - whether through your goals, dreams, or the amazing things you want to achieve.
Remember, girl, you’re loved and you’re special! You were fearful- ly and wonderfully made. You are a masterpiece, and there’s nothing anyone can say to change that. Keep being your incredible self!
With love.
Lift others as you rise. Compliment your bestie’s or show up for your crew when they need you. When you’re thriving, it’s easier to cheer on others - and sisterhood becomes a superpower.

Hey, SKY Girls!
Ever notice how the love and energy you give to yourself spills over into your friendships? That’s because self-love isn’t just about treating yourself to a nyama choma or vibing to Bombshell in your room.
It’s also the secret to being a better friend. When you nurture yourself, you glow from the inside out - and that glow-up makes your friendships shine too.
Think of self-love like ubwali - it’s the base that keeps everything else strong. When you take care of yourself, whether by journaling your dreams or getting enough rest, you’re more patient and understanding with your squad.
Zambia’s Copper Queens, Barbra Banda and Rachel Kundananji, are perfect examples. They focus on their goals and self-growth while staying close to their Zed roots, supporting their families and communities.
Just like Barbra and Rachel, keep practicing. You need to protect your energy too. Say no to things that drain you and yes to what uplifts you. True friends will respect your boundaries and celebrate your wins.

So, SKY Girls, the next time you work on yourself, remember you’re not just empowering you - you’re empowering your whole squad. Keep shining, unapologetically!
Take a moment each day to appreciate yourself and the people around you. Did your friend hype your outfit last week? Did you ace something you were nervous about? Write it down. Gratitude shifts your mindset and helps you see the good in others, making your friendships even stronger.

This issue is about being unapologetically you, and out when we’re celebrating women during Women’s Day. So it’s only right we pay homage to women who have shown us how to be authentic and unapologetically themselves! Zambia is home to a number of talented women who have made significant contributions to various fields. From politics and entrepreneurship to music and engineering, these women have shattered glass ceilings and inspired a new generation of leaders.
The Melodic Trailblazer of Zambian Jazz
Maureen Lilanda is a renowned Zambian jazz musician who has left a mark on the industry. As one of Zambia's first female jazz musicians, she has risen to her SKY and paved the way for women in music.
She has shared the stage with world-renowned artists like Seal. Her impressive vocal range and leadership skills have also taken her to Japan, where she led an all-female acappella group, Amashiwi.
Maureen's talent has earned her numerous awards and accolades. She has received the National Arts Council (NAC) Award for Best Female Artiste, multiple Ngoma awards, two Azami awards, and the Starmaker accolade. In 2014, she was honored with the Born 'n' Bred Lifetime Achievement Award. Her impressive resume also includes a nomination for the prestigious South Africa Kora Award for Best Female Artist.
But Maureen is more than just a talented musician. She is a multifaceted individual with a passion for making a difference. Holding a Diploma in Journalism, she is also a motivational speaker who addresses pressing issues like malaria and HIV awareness, child abuse and domestic violence, morality and religion, and coping with loss. Through her music and public speaking, Maureen Lilanda inspires and empowers audiences, using her platform to create positive change.
A Trailblazer in Aviation

Lillian Lungu made history by not only becoming the first African but also the first female to be awarded the prestigious Whittle Safety Award from the International Federation of Airworthiness. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to aircraft safety. Miss Ma’am literally reached for the sky and showed us how women in STEM are breaking barriers and creating new firsts that young girls like you and I can look up to, and feel inspired by. This shows that with perseverance and determination, anything is possible.
Sisters Lynn Musonda Phiri and Chungu Musonda have made history by establishing Zambia's first chocolate factory, Savanna Premium Chocolate. In Season 3 of Tikula, Joshua's story takes center stage, and it’s a tough one to watch. The once laid-back, sporty guy who used to turn heads starts to face challenges that change his life - both on and off the field.
There’s nothing cute about smelling like an ashtray or struggling to breathe during gym class. Did you know smoking can mess up your lungs and your skin? Yup, vaping too! It’s not just the bad breath and yellow teeth - it’s the way it sneaks up on your body and slows you down, SKY babes!
From the conversations had between Michael, Joshua and Choolwe, it’s obvious that Joshua was the guy everyone cheered for during sports. Running was his thing - it was his glow. But once he picked up smoking, it didn’t take long for things to go downhill. SKY babes, here’s the truth: tobacco cuts your stamina because it damages your lungs. Even a casual puff or a quick vape session can mess with your breathing. For Joshua, every sprint started feeling like a marathon, and the frustration was so real and his choices were catching up with him.
Sis, let’s talk about appearances. Joshua’s scruffy, ashy skin, tired look wasn’t giving “main character energy” anymore. Smoking doesn’t just mess with your health - it hits your glow too. Studies show tobacco dries out your skin, clogs your pores, and makes you age faster. The lingering smell of smoke? Total buzz kill. His friends couldn’t ignore the change, and slowly, the squad drifted apart because his smoking was against their goals, with one of his friends openly saying, “Josh doesn’t even seem like himself anymore.”
A key moment comes when his friends confront him and tell him that they can’t hang out with him. The realization that his actions were affecting more than just himself hits hard. His friends were about a smoke-free lifestyle, and it was important for them that everyone of the crew respected, and were committed to, this choice. Joshua clearly lied and hid his addiction. When you choose to be smoke free, you’re making a commitment and you want to surround yourself with people who respect that commitment. Joshua didn’t. So they chose to remove Joshua from their crew so that they could continue to stay true to themselves.
Smoking isn’t just cigarettes. Vaping has nicotine too, which can get you hooked faster than you think. Tobacco products are full of harmful chemicals - like, over 7,000 of them. And babe, none of them are doing your body any favors.
As of October 2023, The sale/distribution of vapes was banned in forty-one (41) countries because the vaping laws are protecting people from the harms of vaping and nicotine dependence.
Secondhand smoke is a thing, so even your loved ones feel the impact. That smell doesn’t just linger; it spreads.
You might think, “It’s just one time; what’s the big deal?” But one choice can snowball into bigger consequences, sis. Joshua’s story isn’t about perfection - it’s about recognizing the impact of smoking - if he looked that bad physically, can you imagine what was happening to him inside!
Your glow, your health, and your vibe are priceless. Protect them, always.
Let’s play a wordsearch puzzle where we get to find some trending slang and what they really mean

How can I help a friend who self-harms?
SKY GIRL 1: Ooh, don't guilt trip them into stopping. Don't make them feel bad about it. They already feel bad. Just be there for them and let it be known that they have someone, and don't make them feel judged for it. Just be there for them.
@_.mumbaaaa
SKY GIRL 2: Try to find out why they do it. Show them support when no one does. Also, inform them of the dangers.
@twaambomweembae
10 - Perform: Acting in a way that's strange or not normal, especially if it's bad. “So, just here you want to perform?”
@innersafariquest_isq
11 - Kembo: A person who’s scared, weak, or not adventurous - just kinda scared to take risks. “Only a kembo would talk about their friends behind their back.”
AUNTY B: Helping a friend who self-harms starts with being there for them. Let them know you care without judgment - tell them things like, “I’m here for you” or “You’re not alone.” Encourage them to talk to a trusted adult or counselor, and offer to go with them if they’re scared. Avoid trying to “fix” them yourself; instead, listen and support. Remind them of their worth and help them find healthier ways to cope, like journaling, drawing, or exercising. Most importantly, be patient - healing takes time, but your support can make a big difference.

1 - Eksay: This means “friend” or “bro,” like someone you’re really close with. “Eksay, have you watched Tikula S3 yet?”

12 - Wala: Means “never” or “not at all,” like saying something won’t ever happen. “Wala, I can’t speak to that ohn!”
I don’t know how to determine which kinds of clothes suit my body and my temperament. What should I do?
13 - Butah: A word for “friend” or “bro,” kinda like a way to call someone a close buddy. “Saht, you were supposed to be my butah!”
SKY GIRL 1: Identify your body type and vibe, then do research on what suits you. Following people on social media with your kind of body would help most.
14 - Tong: Another way to say money or cash. “We need some tong.”
@kemah_kayeyi

How can I go on with my dance career despite having people with bad energy around me?
