A N D M U C H M O R E!
What are you the most excited about in life right now? This spring, my 19-year-old daughter is moving back to Colorado! She’s been living in San Diego while she finished school and just decided she wants to move back to Denver to settle in and plant her roots. I’m so excited to have my workout and mani/pedi buddy back! I was a young single mom when I raised her, so we are very close and the fact that she’s coming back this way excites me more than anything in the world right now. What are you looking forward to in 2018? It’s been so much fun following all of the development in Downtown Denver. I’m particularly excited to see The Coloradan come to life by Union Station this year. I’ve loved watching them add more and more of the design details and can’t wait to see what restaurant, coffee shop, or cool new fitness space will be going into the retail spaces. I have a good number of clients and friends purchasing in the building, so the housewarming season there is going to be off the charts!

A DAY I N THE MOUNTAI NS
Cheese+Provisions — Sunnyside 2432 West 44th Avenue, cheeseandprovisions.com
While there’s certainly no shortage of things to do in the city, every now and then we love to take a quick trip to the mountains for a change of pace.
We simply can’t turn down delicious cheese, whether it’s a good sharp cheddar or a smooth and creamy brie. For Steve Duty, founder of Cheese+Provisions in Sunnyside, cheese is a way of life. Not only did he own an operate a sheep dairy farm, he also has extensive experience in cheese-making, giving him a particularly keen expertise when it comes to selecting high-quality cheese with robust flavor. He and his wife Kim work with small-scale artisan cheesemakers from around the country to find the best of the best — and then bring it right here to Denver for all of us to enjoy.
Of course our favorite thing to do in the mountains is hit the slopes, but that’s certainly not the only reason to leave the city. Even if you don’t ski or snowboard, there are plenty of winter activities that are well worth the trek up I-70. Here are a few of our favorite things to do this time of year: If you want to catch the scenery, but aren’t into downhill mountain sports, no problem! You can still take in the skyhigh views with Vail’s relaxing gondola ride or exhilirating mountain coaster. Or, for a thrill that’s a little closer to the ground, check out the tubing hill at Adventure Ridge.
Part of what we love about Cheese+Provisions is that they take the time to educate the community about their craft, from cheese making and tasting to selection and pairing. Through the “Cheese Smarts” section on their website and numerous cheese-related workshops, they’re sharing their passion with the rest of us, and we know our next cheese platter will be all the better for it.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, pop over to Edwards to check out the latest newcomers to Vail Valley’s restaurant scene: Hovey & Harrison and Craftsman. The former is a combination market/bakery/cafe that is particularly known for its sourdough breads. And, the latter pairs craft beer and craft sandwiches, with a menu built around honoring, yet updating the classics. If you’re looking for some entertainment, check out Cinebistro in Vail, where dinner and a movie come together for a perfectly relaxing evening.

FIVE QUES TI ONS, ONE B ROK ER Sara Garza, Broker Associate at Slifer — Denver Name one thing we might not know about you. I’m addicted to pho! I eat it at least once a week, if not twice. Depending on what type of pho I’m craving, I usually alternate between a few of my favorite spots on South Federal. For beefy pho, it’s Pho 95. For veggie, it’s Tony’s Pho. And for shrimp, it’s Pho Le. And, if I don’t have time to make it that far south, I’ll head for Pho Fusion in West Highlands on 38th. Hopefully one day we’ll get a great pho spot a little closer to Union Station! What are you inspired by in downtown Denver? I love that Denver continues to focus on building community throughout the rapid growth we’ve seen downtown. The city is always looking for ways to engage and connect with residents and visitors alike, with fun things like art installations, pop-up parks, and community events. I think Denver has always been a special place, largely thanks to the kindness of those who live here, and it’s inspiring to see that same love and goodness thriving as we continue to grow. What’s your go-to spot in Denver? One of my favorite spots in Denver is the Oxford Spa, a little hidden gem by Union Station. I love how peaceful and calm it is there, despite being in the middle of the city. It’s a great place to relax with a massage, facial, or a few minutes in their huge steam room. Plus, their prices are great and it’s usually easy to get in for an appointment, even at the last minute. (Insider Tip: you can use their gym the day of your scheduled service if you ask ahead of time!)
LE AR N: FR EE DAY AT DM NS Denver Museum of Nature and Science Sunday, January 28th, 9am-5pm dmns.org Every month, the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District offers free admission to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the city’s century-old staple where learning meets fun. Their current El Alebrije exhibit brings a bit of Mexican folk art to Denver, with brightly-colored sculptures of mythical creatures. And, while you’re there, pop out on the back balcony for one of the best views of the city. Plus, mark your calendars for their upcoming event: A Colorado Winter. Renowned photographer John Fielder will be there to share his favorite backcountry Colorado scenes alongside mountaineer Jon Kedrowski, who will take you down some of the state’s best ski descents. January 30th at 7pm. Tickets available at dmns.org.
