It doesn’t get much more Colorado than the Denver Bicycle Cafe. With the tagline “Bikes. Beer. Coffee.”, it’s easy to see why this shop is an Uptown favorite. By day, it’s half coffee shop, half bike shop. By night, it’s a cozy bar featuring some of the best local beers around. And with a fantastic outdoor patio — one of the many along 17th Street’s Restaurant Row — and some of the best breakfast burritos in town, it’s the perfect spot to take your bike, grab a drink, and enjoy a beautiful fall morning.
David Broecker, Broker Associate at Slifer — Denver What is one thing we might not know about you? I attended culinary school in Pittsburgh and started my career as a chef in Aspen. After cooking for Pete Coors one evening, I landed the Aspen route selling beer for Coors. That eventually led me into a career as a sales manager in the craft beer industry. Cooking and beer are still two of my passions today!
Join them on Thursday, September 28th for a night of beer and cheese. Nate Cougill, their resident cheese expert, will walk you through a selection of incredible cheeses, handpicked to pair with beer tastings from Dude’s Brews. More info at twoparts.com/beercheese.
Local Insider: What are you currently inspired by in Denver? The development of downtown Denver has been amazing to watch; at one point I could see 11 cranes from my balcony alone. What they have done at Union Station is fantastic, and the food and beer scene in Denver is awesome!

What does a day off look like for you? A day off for me varies depending upon the season. Spring means hikes and baseball, fall always means watching football with my wife and friends. Name one thing on your 2017 bucket list. It is crazy how fast 2017 has gone by. I was excited to spend Labor Day weekend in Aspen for Jazz Aspen. I would say on my bucket list for 2018 is to visit Croatia with my wife. What’s your go-to spot in Denver? The Barrel Bar at Great Divide is fantastic, and you can always pop across the street to The Source for great food at Acorn. David Broecker, dbroecker@sliferdenver.com (720) 878-2167
A Colorado native and Denver resident, CJ Fishler is in his seventh year at Wynkoop Brewing Company where he works as their Brewery Ambassador and Beer Traffic Controller. “I know,” he says, “rough life playing with beer!” As he’s spent more time in this historic part of Denver, he has become somewhat of a natural historian, a task he calls daunting, thanks to the building and brewery’s larger-than-life story and history. We caught up with CJ to talk about his favorite part of Denver. My Favorite Block: “Being born and raised in Colorado...this is a tough one. I would usually say somewhere in the mountains but I’ll narrow it down two areas of downtown. LoDo and RiNo, these two places have more in common than most realize. It was not that long ago that LoDo was an up and coming area from the “ashes” of industrial neighborhoods. Both share that feeling and look, that they are both tied to their pasts, but it does not define them. What I love most is the Historical architecture left behind. I work in LoDo at Wynkoop Brewing Company. We were one of the first in the area to see it for more than just an old train station and a rundown part of town. To this day Wynkoop sits one of the most complete historical blocks in Colorado. Take some time to look and you’ll understand.” Wynkoop Brewing Company. We are very lucky to have a history in this amazing craft beer Mecca, but we are still working for it! Being Colorado’s oldest brewpub, we are the old dog with new tricks, with around 30 of our own custom brewed craft beers, there is something for every kind and level of beer aficionado. Jax Fish House. Hands down THE BEST HAPPY HOUR in Denver PERIOD!!! Amazing seafood and great happy hour prices. The bar and dining room are a beautiful contrast between modern style while using your existing beauty in the old building.
