Pie in the Sky A N D M U C H M O R E!
G IVE BACK : PIE I N THE SK Y
Tell us about a recent or upcoming adventure. For our first adventure with our son, we decided to do a quick trip to the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs this summer. We wanted to stay close to home in case it was a disaster with Wesley. We had the best time and didn’t feel like we were only an hour away from home. I never go to Colorado Springs and forgot how many cool things there are to do there. We went to the Royal Gorge, climbed the Manitou Springs Incline, fed the giraffes at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and spent time at the beautiful resort. It was a perfect little get away over the summer.
Pie in the Sky — Project Angel Heart Now through November 16th projectangelheart.org/pie-in-the-sky Our friends at Project Angel Heart have launched their annual fall fundraiser — and it comes in the form of pies! Between now and November 16th, you can order apple, cherry, pecan, and pumpkin pies from their site. And the local Bluepoint Bakery will bake them up to be ready to go just in time for Thanksgiving. For every pie purchased, Project Angel Heart is able to prepare and deliver three meals to a client facing a life-threatening illness. Making a difference has never tasted so sweet!
What’s your go-to spot in Denver? My absolute favorite restaurant is Izakaya Den. Sushi is always top on my list when we go out to eat and I love the food and ambiance of Izakaya Den. We prefer to sit upstairs at the bar because the service is great and we meet fun people! Lindsay McBride, lmcbride@sliferdenver.com (303) 618-3622
E AT: MEN YA R AMEN & POK E Menya Ramen & Poke — Riverfront Park 1590 Little Raven Street, menyacolorado.com Menya opened their newest location this summer in the plaza at Riverfront Park, right across from our office! You may recognize their name from Downtown Denver and the Tech Center, where Chef JW Lee’s sushi and noodles have been an area favorite for years. With this new location, the team is focusing on ramen and poke —and trust us when we say, they’re nailing it! One of our favorite parts about Menya is that they have the perfect meal for whatever weather Colorado throws our way. If it’s rainy and cold outside, their delicious, hot bowls of ramen provides comfort and warmth. And, their poke is light and refreshing, ideal for sunny days. For the full expeirence, start with a pork bun and end with some mochi ice cream. It’s quick, authentic, and just a couple blocks from the bustling Union Station, making it an easy, convenient choice for lunch and dinner.

E XPLOR E: FAVOR ITE FALL H IK ES October is a perfect month to get in a few more hikes before the temperatures really start dropping. Here are a few of our favorites, all just a quick drive from Denver. Kenosha Pass. Just before Highyway 285 drops down into South Park, you’ll find a spectacular stretch of The Colorado Trail that winds through a thick, beautiful grove of aspen trees. Hikes on both the north and south side of 285 are fairly flat and easy, making this a great spot for families. And on your way back, pop in to Coney Island in Bailey to grab one of their famous hot dogs. Staunton State Park. A relative newcomer to the scene, Staunton State Park boasts a range of hikes, from quick and easy trails to longer, steeper treks and even access to rock climbing. The park includes a few small water features that are stocked with rainbow trout, so don’t forget your fishing pole! Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Despite being one of the closest parks to Denver, Golden Gate Canyon is often overlooked by hikers. But don’t let this hidden gem fool you — it’s full of great trails and beautiful views. If you’re an early riser, try a sunrise hike up to the old Tallman Ranch. The wood swing on the front porch overlooks a small pond, making it a perfect spot to watch the sun come up.
Name one thing we might not know about you. I’m a mom! My husband and I adopted a baby boy at birth in November of last year. Our long journey to parenthood ended with 2 ½ weeks notice before Wesley was born. It was crazy trying to prepare for a baby in such a short period of time and figure out how to hand off my business for a few months. My Slifer Team was incredible and took great care of my clients while I was out. Wesley is such a happy little guy and lights up the room with his smile. I’m loving being his mom and can’t believe he is almost a year old! Local Insider: What are you currently inspired by in downtown Denver? I’m inspired by what a cool city Denver is turning into. Growing up in the Denver area, the nation looked at us like a small cow town. Today it’s one of the nation’s hotspots and everyone wants to live here. Our food scene is incredible, new buildings are popping up everywhere, and our economy is strong. Denver is a vibrant city and has so much to offer. I love that I’m a native and have seen the transformation of our city take place. What’s the best new restaurant/brewery/bar you’ve tried lately? I really like Hearth and Dram in Union Station. It’s so fun to see all the great new bars and restaurants and what a cool neighborhood Union Station is becoming. Hearth and Dram has some delicious food and fun drinks. I also love 10 Barrel in RiNo for a new brewpub. They have an awesome rooftop, tasty beers and really yummy food. I would check it out for happy hour before fall is over!
PUM PK I NS GALOR E Bust out your scarves and boots — fall has officially arrived in Denver! And with it comes a couple of fun, family-friendly events at the Denver Botanic Gardens, Chatfield Farms location, perfect for getting you in the autumn spirit. Pumpkin Festival A full weekend of fall activities at the farm. Explore the pumpkin patch, grab a bite from local food trucks, try your hand at lawn and carnival games, enjoy live music, and much more. October 13th-15th, from 9am-5pm. The Great Pumpkin Haul Where pumpkin picking meets working out. Pick a pumpkin from the Chatfield Farms patch, then take it for a little run/ walk through a two-mile course loaded with little obstacles. (Don’t worry, you can bring a team to share the load if your arms aren’t feeling up to it.) A finish line celebration with craft brews, hot apple cider, and food trucks will make it all worth it. October 28th at 9:30am.
