Saint Michael’s rose 12 spots to 93rd on the National Liberal Arts Colleges list in the U.S. News and World Report rankings of “America’s Best Colleges” in 2010. activities, and the pure enjoyment of the college years and the Vermont experience to converge in a total Saint Michael’s College experience. The Tarrant Recreation Center and Ross Sports Center form the epicenter for athletic and recreational activities on campus. The College offers 21 intercollegiate sports that compete at the NCAA Division II level with all but four teams participating in the highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference, tied for the largest Division II conference in the nation. For students who are looking for something slightly less competitive, there is a wide variety of club and intramural sports such as rugby, basketball, softball and even table tennis. Our acclaimed Wilderness Program also bring students into the great Vermont outdoors for adventure sports and survival training, from beginner to advanced certification levels. Saint Michael's is home to Greater Burlington’s only Actor’s Equity professional summer theater, the Saint Michael’s Playhouse. The Northeast-10 Conference

Completing its third decade, the Northeast-10 Conference has established itself as one of the premier all-around NCAA Division II conference in the nation. The conference is comprised of 16 northeastern colleges and universities: six from Massachusetts, four from New York, three from New Hampshire, two from Connecticut, and one from Vermont (Saint Michael’s). Founded in 1980 as the Northeast-7, the NE-10 has seen many changes in recent years, most notably when the league expanded from 10 to 15 institutions for the 2000-01 academic year. Franklin Pierce College, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the College of Saint Rose, Southern Connecticut State University and Southern New Hampshire University were all added to the league that season. In 2008, the University of New Haven joined the conference, replacing Bryant University, which moved to NCAA Division I. And in 2009, Adelphi University became the conference’s 16th member. The men’s soccer schedule is comprised of 13 conference games, with schools meeting each other once during the regular season (Pace does not have men’s soccer, while NE-10 newcomer Adelphi competes in NCAA Division I for men’s soccer). The season is capped off by an eight-team conference tournament. The winner of the conference tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Conference champions are also crowned in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s golf, men’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s volleyball.

The Coaching Staff

James Franklin - Head Coach

James Franklin, a former head coach at Vassar College and Norwich University, and assistant coach at the University of Vermont, enters his third season as the head coach of the Saint Michael’s men’s soccer program in 2010. In two seasons at the helm of the Purple Knights, Franklin has compiled a 16-13-6 record (.543 win percentage), becoming one of just two coaches in program history to have a winning overall record. His overall record in six years as a collegiate head coach is 54-48-8 (.527 win percentage). In 2009, Franklin led the Purple Knights to a 9-5-3 record, including a 5-2-1 mark in away contests. He led the Purple Knights to just the 11th winning season in the program’s 50-year history, and just the third winning season in the last 20 years. Franklin led the team to a 7-8-3 record in his first season in 2008, including a 5-3-2 mark at home, and was named Saint Michael’s Co-Coach of the Year at the College’s Block "M" Awards Dinner on April 30, 2009. In announcing Franklin’s hiring on April 28, 2008, Director of Athletics Geri Knortz said, “We are extremely fortunate to have someone of James’ experience and accomplishments join the Saint Michael’s athletics department and lead our men’s soccer program. He is a talented coach and a great fit for Saint Michael’s College." “I would like to thank Geri Knortz and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead the men’s soccer program at Saint Michael’s College,” said Franklin. “It is a privilege to take over the program from Coach Wade Jean, who has transformed the program into a regionally competitive team. I will work hard to continue to build on the team’s recent success, and I cannot wait to get started.” Franklin, a native of Staffordshire, England, has 12 years of collegiate coaching experience. Most recently, Franklin served as an assistant coach for the UVM women’s soccer program in the 2006 and 2007 seasons, helping the NCAA Division I Catamounts qualify for the America East Conference playoffs in 2006. Prior to joining UVM, Franklin was men’s soccer head coach at Norwich University from 2003-06. He rebuilt the NCAA Division III program in just three seasons, taking the Cadets from a 6-13-0 record in his first season to a 13-6-1 record in his final season at Norwich. Franklin also served as the men’s tennis head coach at Norwich, and directed the university’s NCAA Life Skills program. Before arriving at Norwich, Franklin served as head coach of men’s soccer and assistant athletic director for facilities at Division III Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Franklin spent two years as an assistant coach at Vassar prior to being promoted to head coach, and in 2002 was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (now the Liberty League) Coach of the Year after guiding the Brewers to an 11-7-0 overall record. Franklin played collegiate soccer at Champlain College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1998. Following his collegiate career, he stayed at Champlain to serve as an assistant coach with both the men’s and women’s soccer programs. Franklin has also played professionally with Crewe Alexandra in his native England, as well as with the Vermont Voltage. At Saint Michael’s, Franklin also serves as the College’s Tickets Manager and Events Supervisor, helping oversee athletic contests during the winter and spring sport seasons.

Jeff Moulton - Assistant Coach

Jeff Moulton returns for his second season as an assistant coach for the Saint Michael’s College men’s soccer program in 2010. In his first season as an assistant in 2009, Moulton helped lead the Purple Knights to a 9-5-3 record. “I am thrilled that Jeff is joining our staff. He is a driven individual and brings energy and experience to the team,” said Franklin upon announcing Moulton’s hiring on December 17, 2008. “He is a tremendous teacher and communicator and offers a diverse array of skills for our program to benefit from. He will be involved in all aspects of the program, and will greatly influence our future success.” “I am excited to be joining Saint Michael’s and working with Coach Franklin,” said Moulton, the boy’s soccer head coach at nearby Bellow Free Academy-Saint Albans the last five seasons. “My philosophy towards coaching is that, if you want to be successful, you must be able to consistently achieve three standards: a commitment to excellence, an ability to be trusted, and a willingness to be there for others.” Before joining Saint Michael’s, Moulton had been coaching high school soccer at BFA-Saint Albans since 1995, including five years as the boy’s varsity soccer head coach from 2004-08. He guided the Bobwhites’ boy’s junior varsity squad from 1997-2003, the boy’s freshman team in 1996, and was an assistant coach with the boy’s varsity team in 1995. He has also served BFA-Saint Albans as an assistant coach with both the varsity girls’ ice hockey team, and the varsity girls’ softball team. In addition to his high school coaching duties, Moulton has served as an instructor at Saint Michael’s soccer camps the last four summers, and has also been an instructor at similar camps at the University of Vermont and at the Vermont Soccer School. He has also spent the last four years as the Northern United indoor soccer coach. Moulton played soccer at his alma mater, the State University of New York at Potsdam, and was a captain and All-League boy’s soccer player at BFA-Saint Albans, where he graduated in 1990. He is an “E” License recipient of the United States Soccer Federation, and has attended coaching conventions in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

Matt Gazo, a local standout as both a studentathlete and coach, returns for his third year as an assistant coach of the Saint Michael’s men’s soccer program in 2010. He helped guide the Purple Knights to a 9-5-3 record in 2009, and a 7-8-3 record in his first season, for an overall record of 16-13-6. Gazo has 18 years of coaching experience at a variety of levels. Most recently, he was the Vermont Olympic Development Under-14 boy’s coach in 2008, and has spent the last three years as the Nordic Soccer Club Under-9 and Under10 boy’s premier coach. Previously, Gazo had been the men’s and women’s soccer assistant coach at nearby Champlain College, and has also served as a men’s soccer assistant coach at his alma mater, Johnson (Vt.) State College. He also spent five years as an assistant boy’s soccer coach at nearby Rice Memorial High School. A 1993 graduate of Johnson with a bachelor of arts degree in business management, Gazo was a standout soccer and baseball player at Johnson, and inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. He was named Johnson’s Senior Athlete of the Year, and earned the NAIA New England Player of the Year award in 1990. The program’s all-time leader in goals and points, he was a two-time All-American, and three-time Mayflower All-Conference First Team pick after transferring from Franklin Pierce College (now Franklin Pierce Unviersity). Gazo was also inducted into the Rice Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004, as he is still the high school’s all-time leading goal scorer. His playing experience also includes several years of professional and semi-professional time in England and the United States. Gazo, who resides in Colchester, is the owner of Gazo Construction, the 2005 Remodeler of the Year and a Better Homes award winner in 2005 and 2006.

Season Outlook

On many levels, the Saint Michael’s College men’s soccer team enjoyed a successful season in 2009. The Purple Knights won their first five games of the season, and ended the year with four victories in their last five contests en route to a 9-5-3 campaign. However, Saint Michael’s fell just short of its goal of returning to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, as the Purple Knights finished in ninth place in the standings, just two points shy of a threeway tie for sixth place. Despite an 11th-place prediction in the NE-10 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, third-year head coach James Franklin expects his squad to reach the league’s postseason in 2010. Franklin must replace five starters from last year not back this season, but he returns five of his top six scorers from 2009.

Juniors The two juniors on Franklin’s squad both figure to be everyday starters for the Purple Knights in 2010. Captain Rob Pierce, who emerged as a starting back in 2009, anchors a strong defensive unit for Saint Michael’s. Irving helped the Purple Knights allow just 16 goals in 17 games last season, and uses his height and strength to win most balls in the air. Ryan Beck, a two-year veteran who missed the 2009 campaign,

In the midfield, Anthony Stanley, the first player from Honduras in program history, could be a significant factor, while New Hampshire natives Chris George and Omar Khartabil will also get time to make an impact. On defense, David Clough (from Maine) and Logan Kelly (Alaska) come from opposite coasts, but both have the ability to contribute right away.

England Preseason Trip

Nineteen members of the Saint Michael’s College men’s soccer team, plus three coaches, kicked off their 2010 preseason in style from August 10-17, as the squad visited England for a week of training, top-flight competition, and world-class soccer action. Led by third-year head coach and English native James Franklin, Saint Michael’s left Boston’s Logan International Airport on August 10, arriving in London’s Heathrow Airport the next morning. The Purple Knights spent three days in greater London, and four days in nearby Cheshire, during their visit to the United Kingdom, before returning to Boston on August 17. Saint Michael’s played three games against high-level semiprofessional teams during its tour, organized by XL Travel Inc. of Raleigh, N.C. The Purple The Saint Michael’s men’s soccer team spent three days in greater London (top), and earned a Knights faced Gray’s Athletic draw with Gray’s Athletic FC in London on August 12. FC in London on August 12 at 6:30 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and two days later, took on Knuttsford FC in Cheshire at 10:30 a.m. GMT. The Purple Knights earned draws in both of those contests. Saint Michael’s third and final game of its trip was played on August 15, and the Purple Knights suffered a one-goal loss. In addition, the squad practiced at some of the finest soccer facilities in the world. Upon arrival in London on August 11, Saint Michael’s trained with English Premier League coaches. During their time in Cheshire, the Purple Knights practiced at the state-of-the-art hotel facility that opponents train at when in town to face elite club Manchester United. As part of the tour, Saint Michael’s also attended two opening-day Premier League matches. On August 14, the Purple Knights attended the seasonopening match between the Bolton Wanderers and Fulham (featuring United States National Team standout Clint Dempsey). On August 16, Saint Michael’s capped off its amazing week by attending the prime-time match featuring Manchester United and Newcastle United, taking place at historic Old Trafford Stadium (below). “We’re excited about the opportunity to extend our preseason and experience a soccer-crazed nation at a time when their professional season is starting,” said Franklin prior to the trip. “This chance to bond as a team should make us a better squad as we approach the 2010 season.” While playing and watching soccer was the primary focus of the trip, players and coaches also enjoyed plenty of sightseeing opportunities as well. The team experienced a cruise on the Thames River on August 12 as part of a tour of London, and took A view of Old Trafford Stadium, where the Saint Michael’s men’s soccer team a sightseeing tour of the Cheshire countryside on watched a match between Manchester United and Newcastle United on August 14. President Dr. John J. Neuhauser Dr. John J. (Jack) Neuhauser, enters his fourth year as the 16th president of Saint Michael’s College in 2010-11. He was named President on August 1, 2007, and was inaugurated on September 29, 2007. Neuhauser spent the two years prior to joining Saint Michael’s as University Professor of Boston College. From 1999 to 2005, he served as academic vice president and dean of faculties of Boston College. From 1977 to 1999, Dr. Neuhauser served as dean and professor of the Boston College Carroll School of Management. “I’ve come to know and admire Saint Michael’s College as a trustee for five years, and quite literally, to know this place is to love it,” Professor Neuhauser said, on being named the next president of the college. “The academic qualities of Saint Michael’s, its faculty commitment to scholarship and teaching, the enthusiasm and curiosity of its students, and its talented administration and staff, should put it in the first ranks of liberal arts colleges. That is the path I hope we will follow together,” he said. “I only hope to be able to continue the strong legacy of Marc and Dana vanderHeyden [Saint Michael’s current president and his wife] and their predecessors.”

During his six years as academic vice president and dean of faculties of Boston College, Professor Neuhauser was responsible for leadership of the faculty in seven schools and colleges, containing 670 full-time faculty members, and nearly 400 part-time. During this time the number of full-time faculty increased by 50 and the number of endowed professorships more than doubled, to 45. Half the new faculty were persons of color. As dean of Boston College’s Carroll School of Management, Professor Neuhauser led a redesign of the MBA program to promote socially responsible, ethical management and to offer several joint degree programs: MBA-MSA, MBAJD and MBA-Ph.D. He is also credited with raising $20 million on his own for the Carroll School. A native of New York City, Dr. Neuhauser earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Manhattan College in 1964, a master’s in operations research and statistics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1965, and a doctorate in operations research and statistics: mathematics, also from Rensselaer, in 1968. Professor Neuhauser is described “as an academic leader who strives for excellence first,” and as a person who is “very comfortable providing leadership within the framework of a strong Catholic institution.” Jack Neuhauser has been a member of the Saint Michael's College Board of Trustees since 2001. He is the father of three grown children. He has completed the Boston Marathon seven times.

Geri Knortz, Ed.D. M’05 Athletics Director On May 7, 1997, Geraldine S. Knortz, Ed.D., became the fifth athletics director in the College’s 93-year history, and the first woman to ever hold the position. “We were looking for someone with the leadership abilities to carry Saint Michael's into the 21st century, with concern for all students,” then-college president Marc A. vanderHeyden said. “I am convinced we have found the right person in Geri Knortz.” While at Saint Michael's, Knortz has guided the successful transition of the women’s ice hockey program to varsity status and the men’s ice hockey program’s move to the ECAC East Conference. Knortz has also been instrumental in the addition of numerous fulltime coaching positions, improvements to coaches offices, the renovation of the Ross Sports Center gymnasium floor in 2001, and the construction of the Duffy Artificial Turf Field in 2005. Under her leadership, notable team successes include the field hockey team’s semifinal finish at the 2000 and 2001 NCAA Championship, the men’'s basketball “Sweet Sixteen” appearance in 2001, and the crowning of the men’s hockey team as the 1999 NCAA Division II Champions. The last three years, the women’s tennis team earned the program’s first three appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and the men’s ice hockey team was crowned Northeast10 Conference Tournament champions twice in the last three years. Knortz has been a member of many college committees at Saint Michael's including: strategic planning, athletic advisory, technology steering, administrative council, and numerous search committees. At the national level, she currently serves on the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics, and is past chair of the NCAA Division II Nominating Committee and the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee for the Northeast District. She is also active with the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators. Knortz prepared well for her opportunity at Saint Michael's during a very successful 15 year career at Hamilton College, where she held the position of associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator. She was also a professor of physical education (tenured 1987), and coached two varsity sports: volleyball and softball. She is a 1974 graduate (magna cum laude) of the State University of New York at Cortland, where she earned a bachelor of science in physical education and mathematics. She went on to earn her master of science in education at Northern Illinois University in 1978, and a master of science in administration at Saint Michael's in 2005.

Now in his third decade as a college employee, Chris Kenny - the College’s associate athletic director - is primarily responsible for NCAA compliance, marketing, development, and sport administration. Kenny is a product of Saint Michael’s, earning a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and master of science degree in administration and management at the College. After a brief stint as public relations director in the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies minor league systems following graduation, he returned to his alma mater to be the College’s sports information direc-

Athletic Administration Zaf Bludevich Senior Associate Athletics Director

A member of the athletic department since 1975, Zaf Bludevich has been involved in nearly every aspect of Saint Michael’s athletics since his arrival more than three decades ago. Bludevich has served as associate athletic director, head athletics trainer, summer camp director, intramural director and has coached several sports. From 1975 to 2003, he served as the College’s head athletic trainer, and in 2004 was promoted to his current title. A 1993 Saint Michael’s Hall of Fame inductee, Bludevich has served on numerous committees and received several awards for his tireless efforts and dedication to Purple Knights athletics. He has held the positions of treasurer and secretary on the Vermont Association of Athletic Trainers and been a member of the NCAA Ice Hockey Rules and Women’s Championship committees and ECAC Cross Country and Track Committee. Bludevich’s longest tenure in a coaching position was 16 years with the cross country program, though he split his time between the men’s (1980-83, 1990-97) and women’s (1980-87) squads. In 1984 and 1985, his women’s squad won the Mideast Conference title. He was the co-head coach of the men’s swimming and diving team during its first four seasons of existence (1974-78). In 1975, he coached the school’s field hockey team, and in 1990 he assisted Lou DiMasi’s men’s lacrosse team. A 1974 graduate of Norwich University (and 2004 Norwich Hall of Fame inductee), where he received his bachelor’s degree in physical education, he earned his master’s in education/athletic training in 1975. In 1991, he received a degree in physical therapy from the University of Vermont. tor, a position he held for eight years. Following his term as the school’s SID, he served as Director of Athletic External Affairs for two years, before being promoted first to Assistant, then Associate Athletic Director. A well-known face around campus, Kenny is a member of several committees, both on campus and in the outer realm of college athletics. A former member of the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Committee, he is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators, and the National Association of Athletics Compliance Coordinators. He is also a member of Leadership Champlain’s Class of 2005. A division of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Champlain is a prestigious year-long program focused on developing professional leadership and awareness of community issues facing Vermont. On campus, he is a member of the College’s Athletic Task Force, Athletic Advisory Council, and Judicial Review Board, and chairs the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. Kenny is also an active volunteer in and outside the Burlington community. He serves on the Vermont State Sports Council, is a member of the board of directors for Big Apple Basketball (a non-profit corporation committed to helping New York City kids achieve their dream of a college education), and volunteers for Vermont’s Camp TaKum-Ta (a residential summer camp for children with cancer) having served the camp as a member of its board of directors for 10 years. He is also the Executive Director of the Robert J. Kenny Memorial Golf Tournament, which endows camping scholarships at the Clara Barton Camp for girls with diabetes in memory of his late father, and is a member of the Barton Center’s “Friends of Barton.”

Jim Murdock Head Athletic Trainer

Jim Murdock, an athletic trainer with nearly 30 years of collegiate experience, enters his second year as Saint Michael’s head athletic trainer in 2010-11. Murdock joins Saint Michael’s after spending 11 years as an athletic trainer at the University of Vermont, including five years as head athletic trainer and assistant director of the Center for Health and Wellbeing. Murdock is a 1980 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor of science degree in physical education/athletic training, and earned his masters of education in sports medicine/athletic training from the University of Virginia in 1991. He also has served a six-year stint (1980-86) as an assistant athletic trainer and head baseball coach at Washington & Lee University, an NCAA Division III institution in Lexington, Va. Jessica Moore Athletic Trainer Jessica Moore enters her fifth season as athletic trainer at Saint Michael’s in 2010-11. She assists in all of the College’s 21 varsity sports, and works primarily with the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams dur-

ing the winter. Moore received her bachelor’s degree from Castleton State College in 2002, earning her degree in sports medicine. While at Castleton, she was a senior athletic training student with men’s and women’s basketball, softball, baseball and women’s soccer. After graduating from Castleton, Moore was a graduate assistant at Old Dominion University, working primarily with the women's basketball team, which hosted the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional Tournament in 2006. She received her master's degree in education from Old Dominion in 2006.

Whitney Grennon Athletic Medicine Intern Whitney Grennon joins Saint Michael's for her first year as the athletic medicine intern in 2010-11. She will assist with the health care of the College's 21 NCAA Division II intercollegiate varsity sports programs. Grennon graduated summa cum laude from Norwich University in May with a bachelor of science degree in sports medicine/athletic training, and minors in biology, health-nutrition, and coaching. While at Norwich, she worked in the athletic training room for four years, where she actively assisted the College's athletic training staff. Grennon also was a four-year standout for the Norwich softball team, and three-year team captain. Grennon also served two years as president of the College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Seth Cole, a native of Blue Hill, Maine, returns for his eighth year as sports information director for Saint Michael’s in 2010-11. He handles all publicity and media relations efforts for the College’s 21 varsity sports, and is the chair of the Northeast-10 Conference Sports Information Directors. He also served as the College’s baseball coach from 2006-08. Cole, a 2001 graduate of Saint Michael’s with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, returns following a 12-month stint with USA Hockey in Colorado Springs, Colo. He first served USA Hockey as The Brian Fishman Intern before being hired full-time as coordinator of media and public relations. Prior to joining USA Hockey, Cole spent the 2001-02 school year as an Asa S. Bushnell intern with the Eastern College Athletic Conference in Centerville, Mass. As an undergraduate, Cole served internships with the Saint Michael’s sports information office and with the sports department of the Burlington Free Press. In addition, he also served as sports editor of The Defender, Saint Michael’s award-winning student newspaper. A four-year starter at second base for the Purple Knights’ varsity baseball team, Cole won the George “Doc” Jacobs Award, given annually to a student who makes an outstanding contribution to the athletic department at Saint Michael’s.

Mary Moreau is in her 16th year as the athletic department’s office coordinator. She is responsible for coordinating travel for every team and makes all necessary arrangements for home and away contests, including scheduling officials and transportation. Along with Stacey Peet, she helps manage the day-to-day operations of the athletic department.

Meggan Dulude was named the College’s full-time Coordinator of Athletic Facilities & Student Workers on June 24, 2010. She is responsible for the coordination of all athletics facilities and field requests, among other tasks. Dulude (formerly Meggan Roberge) was a standout pitcher for the Saint Michael’s softball team from 2004-07, and holds nearly every pitching record in program history.

Stacey Peet is in her 13th year as administrative assistant to the athletic department. She has several duties, including managing the day-to-day operations of the department. She also acts as the athletic department’s business manager. Peet, a well-known face on campus, is often seen singing the national anthem at many of the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and men’s ice hockey home games.

James Franklin was named the head coach of men’s soccer, tickets manager, and events supervisor at Saint Michael’s College in April of 2008. Franklin has 12 years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently as an assistant coach for the University of Vermont’s women’s program in 2006 and 2007. Prior to joining UVM, Franklin was the men’s soccer head coach at Norwich from 2003-06. He played collegiate soccer at nearby Champlain College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

Tony Bonvechio ’10 joins Saint Michael’s in the role of sports information intern for the 2010-11 academic year. He will assist with all public and media relations facets for the College’s 21 varsity sports programs. Bonvechio, a journalism and mass communications major with a 3.2 GPA, played baseball at Saint Michael’s for two years (and at Southern New Hampshire University for one season). As a senior in 2010, he led the Purple Knights with three home runs and a .472 slugging percentage while serving as the squad’s primary catcher.

Jon Milazzo, a native of Richmond, Vt., has been the Purple Knights’ equipment and events manager since 1998. He is in charge of the purchasing and distribution of all apparel and equipment for the College’s 21 varsity programs. In addition, Milazzo is responsible for the game management of each home athletic event and the operation of the college’s concession stand for home basketball games. He also oversees a student work study staff of 15. Milazzo is a graduate of the University of Hartford. Before arriving at Saint Michael’s, he was an athletic equipment manager at the University of Vermont for 17 years.

Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex (left) is Saint Michael’s artificial turf playing field built in the summer of 2005. It is home to Saint Michael’s men’s soccer team, in addition to women’s soccer, field hockey, and men’s and women’s lacrosse. The field was made possible due to a generous lead gift by John and Kathy Duffy, whose son, Kevin, played lacrosse at Saint Michael’s. The Duffys made their gift in memory of their son Christopher, who died in the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. Doc Jacobs Complex also has a natural grass soccer field, plus softball and baseball fields. The Saint Michael’s men’s soccer team is 19-6-6 at home over the last three seasons, sporting winning home records all three years.

The Saint Michael’s basketball teams and women’s volleyball team play in the Ross Sports Center, which was renovated in the summer of 2001. A new state-of-theart floor was put down to replace the previous one that existed since the building opened in 1973. The gym is highly regarded as one of the best Division II facilities in the Northeast.

The Ross Sports Center pool is home to the Purple Knights swimming and diving teams. The 25-yard, sixlane pool is also the home of Green Mountain Aquatics.
