Q&A

Your Ideal Couple in 3 Words Quirky, Adventurous, Creative

Fashion Philosophy I love an unconventional wedding dress and wish more brides would embrace it. I'd love to see more colored and patterned gowns in real weddings – what a great opportunity to find something that perfectly represents your style AND what a better investment since chances are higher you’d wear it again! Destination Dreams Being based in Savannah, Georgia, USA, I'm pretty lucky to have such beauty and history at my fingertips. But it's always fun to visit some place new. Favorite places to date: Brotherhood Winery in New York, Italy, and the surreal beauty of Utah's Salt Flats. Having severe wanderlust, I'm currently obsessed with going out West for desert, national parks and the amazing forests, coasts and fog that the PNW offer. A girl can always dream of an Italian villa, a Croatian lavender field or a Spanish winery too.

What Every Couple Should Know A great photographer will interview you in a way that allows them to get to know you on a personal level – you should do the same. You’ll be spending lots of time together and sharing some intimate life moments – so you better make sure you’re friends! Ask about the benefits of having a second photographer or doing a First Look. Go over a potential wedding day photography timeline together. All in all, no question is a bad question so make a list and ask away! Go over the contract with your photographer because many of these questions will likely be answered there. The Paradox of Pinterest It offers lots of great inspiration but can also set unrealistic expectations. The one thing to keep in mind when pinning wedding photography is that if the photo was from a real wedding instead of a styled shoot, chances are that moment happened organically. Find a photographer who you love and then trust them to document your day the way their creative eye sees it. vol 13

BEAUTY I N S P I R AT I O N / go bold

Makeup and hair expert, Stefani Burket from The Bonafide Ginger, provides pointers to update your wedding day look.

- don't let your lips get overshadowed by your eyes. - a bold lip can be just as elegant as a neautral one, and looks especially sexy and confident. - think of your eyes and lips as accessories to dress up as much as your shoes and flowers. -use a lip stain for the the best kissable, don't leave a trace, option. -look for the lip stains that apply like a liquid lipstick and dry matte like the one shown here.

Brittany and Paulie had a whirlwind romance from across the Pacific Ocean. With Paul being from Australia and Brittany from the United States, it is hard to imagine two people so perfect for each other could meet, but on a weekend trip to Tahoe, California, something wonderful began.

Almost every guest and family member at the wedding commented it was "worth the wait". These two have both been searching for the right person and it is clear that they've found it in each other. Brittany has never been a person to shy away from adventure: in fashion, in life, or in love. Her bridal attire is sure to set a trend, then combined with gorgeous florals, hints of sparkle and a deep green suit for the groom, this wedding doesn't stop giving beautiful inspiration. R E A L

When the stunning vistas of Zion National Park are in your backyard, it seems only natural to go there for a portrait session. It also makes for a great mini adventure a few days before the wedding as the amiable bride and groom hiked from one dramtic backdrop to another.

The lush garden wedding venue held a special sentiment with its proximity to the bride's grandfather's cemetery. Cere notes, " Sharing our big day with him made it that much more memorable." Vibrant florals popped against the hanging plants of The Garden at Tonaquint Park, and though the day started with rain, it let up just in time. R E A L

Incorporating seasonal fruits and produce into a centerpiece adds texture, interest, and added aroma. Choosing the richest, boldest colors and grouping them together will make an elegant and modern arrangement perfect for any dinner party, holiday, or just to adorn a pretty corner in your home.

Steps / 1 | Wet the oasis fully, so that it is soaked

on either side. Once prepped, secure

the oasis inside the vessel, with floral

bowl tape. Go end to end across the

length of the bowl, and repeat

across the width.

2 | Take a green floral pick and wrap the

wire around the fruit.

3 | Intertwine the fruit and the flower

together, then pierce into the oasis.

4 | Start off with groupings of three

flowers on every point - front, back,

and sides (think of a diamond) as a

base for artistic symmetry.

5 | After you've created your base, fill in

the arrangement with other flowers and

fruit. Try cutting open some of the

fruits, like figs, for even more texture.

6 | Last but not least, add a few pops of a

contrasting floral.

7 SEC RETS TO SURVIVING YOUR WEDDING DAY KEEP YOUR STRESS LEVEL (AND ATTITUDE) IN CHECK

For many brides, their big day is almost here. And while everything has likely been plotted and planned to insure the day runs perfectly, here are a few stress-busting tips just in case it doesn't go so smoothly.

1. Don’t marry yourself to anything but your partner on your wedding.

You can also take control of yourself by

The takeaway is this: the most beautiful bride is the one who isn't stressed on her wedding day and seems to enjoy her wedding the most. She didn’t have a preconceived notion of how it should look; rather, enjoyed the process for what it was and showed up on the big day excited to marry her partner rather than focus on the centerpieces. Live in the moment and let it all go. Yes, the happiest brides accept their day for what it is and revel in the love and glow of their marriage, and thus have happier and seemingly more perfect weddings.

Kristin Joy is a freelance writer on all things weddings and the Editor of Bridentity Crisis, a humorous and helpful blog for brides on how to navigate wedding stress while staying true to themselves. On her blog, Kristin deals with all the other stuff that comes along with "the best day of your life", including advice, questions to ponder while planning, and stories from real brides who've conquered their own crisis—all in a fun, hilarious, and non-judgmental way. 80 | S M I T T E N M A G A Z I N E /

MILTON PHOTOGRAPHY

Having an Irish wedding, Kristine fully expected some rain, and the morning delivered with a light misty drizzle. It made getting ready very cozy experience with mugs of coffee and later Prosecco. She and her bridesmaids stayed at a friend's house overlooking the bay and the groom's family home, where he was getting ready. She loved being able to look out the window knowing he was not very far away .

Family and friends from all over the world made a huge effort to attend the destination wedding. The drinks flowed, the food was amazing and once the band started everyone stayed on the dance floor until the very end. R E A L

BUFFY DEKMAR

The late spring weather in the North Carolina Highlands was just perfect for Amy and Mike's beautiful wedding. The tented outdoor ceremony complete with a tulle clad flower girl arriving in a wagon festooned with floral garland was elegant and classic. Afterwards, guests enjoyed a selection of signature cocktails, including a blackberry julep, in the venue's apple orchard .

The reception had a mix of round and farm tables all with breathtaking florals by flower genius, Amy Osaba. Even the large iron chadelier at the center of the room was draped with graceful greenery. Guests enjoyed a variety of food stations for dinner and a talented live band. In addition to cake, a variety of desserts were presented: a crown favorite, milk (with a splash of Bailey's) and cookies. The couple dashed down the steps for their grand exit as family and friends held sparklers to light up the night. R E A L

GIDEON PHOTOGRAPHY

This summer wedding is nothing short of breathtaking. From the beautiful scenery of England's Lake District to the groom's immpecable style with his blue plaid suit and ascot. The classic white tent, linens and chairs are puncuated with soft yellow and green florals. To keep the evening light hearted, animals were used in lieu of table numbers to assign seats.

The bridesmaids' collection of mismatched dresses and the English tradition of wearing hats to weddings make for a stylish affair. The venue's stone building, expansive lawn, and cobblestone paths offer an abundance of backdrops for portraits. R E A L
