or centuries, flags have been used as a way to inform, establish a presence or even threaten people. The earliest flag was a metal or wooden pole with a carving placed on top of the pole. The first recorded metal flag, dating back to 3,000 BC, came from Iran. Eventually, fabric replaced the carvings, and the oldest preserved textile flag was found in Egypt, dating back to third century AD.
