Customers sit on toilet seats, the tables are made of double sinks with a glass top and the sinks in the restrooms are modified toilets with faucets. Apparently the fact that you’re technically eating on the toilet hasn’t bothered too many people.

Taiwan is also home to another uniquely-themed restaurant: the Barbie Café. The restaurant is licensed

by Mattel, the maker of the Barbie doll and is decorated entirely Barbie-esque. There are pictures of her everywhere and everything is pink, including the tutus on the chairs, hot-pink sofas and tables shaped like high-heeled shoes. The café is the second attempt by Mattel to create a Barbie-themed restaurant. Their first opened in 2009 in China but closed its doors two years later. The Taiwan location opened in 2013 so it remains

We’ll begin our theme restaurant tour with Colorado Springs’ very own Solo’s Restaurant. Located on south Powers, the restaurant is kind of hard to miss . . . it’s a huge, fully intact Boeing KC-97 tanker plane. The plane itself was built in 1953 and was used to refuel aircraft throughout the world. On a return flight from a refueling mission to Europe, the crew had to land the plane on one of the Azores islands, about 970 miles west of Portugal. They left it there and it was all but forgotten. Eventually, the plane was reclaimed and in May 2002, it was turned into the restaurant people enjoy today. It seats roughly 42 people aboard the plane itself but the attached dining area can seat another 275 people. Guest can enjoy hundreds of picture, artifacts and memorabilia and can even explore the cockpit of the airplane.

HACHIKYO This restaurant has more of a concept than a theme so based on that concept Snippetz came up with a theme and that theme is “eat up or pay up.”

To clarify, the restaurant’s owner announced that anyone who didn’t completely finish their meal, even down to the last grain of rice, would have to pay a fine. The idea behind the concept is much more socially aware than some owner who wants to fine people who don’t finish their food.

It’s actually a way to bring awareness to the fisherman of the country who risk their lives to catch the fish served at Hachikyo.

According to the menu, “To show our gratitude and appreciation for the food they provide, it is forbidden to leave even one grain of rice in your bowl.”

HEART ATTACK GRILL

From ninjas to ice, we move on to a restaurant Chillout, located in Dubai.

As the name suggests, this restaurant is a bit chilly and for good reason.

It’s made entirely from ice, kept at a toasty -6 degrees. Guests receive a nice, cozy hooded coat, gloves and shoes to wear as they enjoy nice warm foods and drinks. The restaurant originally opened in 2007 but underwent a major renovation in July 2014 and now boasts ice sculptures, ice seating and ice tables, among other things.

Similar restaurants are located in Montreal, Las Vegas, Orlando, New York and several other locations.

Only in America can a restaurant’s owner say, “Don’t come to my restaurant, it is bad for you and will kill you,” and yet, people still come! The Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas is that restaurant. With a counter that keeps track of the calories served each day, it’s safe to say a restaurant like this is NOT the place to do while on a diet.

In fact, their website openly mocks diets. But the home of the Guinness World Record for the Highest Calorie Burger has a reputation to uphold. So they have items like the “Octuple Bypass Burger” which you can garnish with a meager helping of 40 slices of bacon. And if you weigh 350 pounds or more, you eat free. God bless America.

NINJA Switching gears to something a little less artery-clogging, we travel over to New York where the Ninja restaurant offers up something very Ninja-worthy indeed. The restaurant is located underground, in a cave-like maze of rooms and hallways that covers over 6,000 square feet. The servers are all in black ninja costumes and tumble and roll through the maze as guests navigate their way to their tables.

Throughout the meal, ninjas appear and reappear, often carrying swords and doing magic tricks to evoke the feeling of the legitimate ninjas in Japan. It’s unclear how lighting things on fire is reminiscent of a ninja, but Ninja in New York seems to think it’s

PATHWAY PARENTING IMAGINARY FRIENDS

ost children like to use their imagination. And why not?

It’s a fabulous tool with which to entertain the mind. I remember as a child, I would ride my bicycle and pretend to be a school bus driver.

I thought it would be so much fun to drive a bus! I rode my bike short distances, would stop, and pretend to open the imaginary door using my imaginary handle. Then on rainy or cold days, I would pretend to be a fast food employee handing out food through the drive-thru window. Apparently, I also had no idea how little these two jobs actually pay! I used my imagination to entertain myself. It’s a beautiful way to foster creativity too.

In some cases, children have developed a case of ‘imaginary friends’. In many

n Friday, August 29th, Palmer Ridge had their opening football game against Sand Creek at Don Breese Stadium. The game started with a tailgate for the freshmen, put on by LINK. At 7:00 the game started and right from the start we got ahead of Sand Creek, leading the game until the staggering 52-20 win.

made their mark on their field with their first performance in a game of the year. “It’s a lot of hard work,and behind the scenes, there are lots of injuries, tears,mistakes and more makeup and false eyelashes then I’d like,” admits Stasia Gessert, one of the dancers. All the hard work pays off though. “I like watching them perform because it’s a nice, upbeat and fun break from the game,” says student Cienna Page.

The dancers lit up the halftime break with a dazzling performance that left everyone applauding and full of school spirit.

Though people do go for the sports and the dancers, there are a myriad of other reasons to go to the games. “During school there isn’t so much time, and then after school is for studying. Football games give me a chance to take a break, relax, and have a laugh with people I know,” says Beki Bristowe, a PR sophomore. “I go to the games to socialize and support the team,” Reese Chaplin agrees.

No matter the reasons for going, it’s no question that everyone was having a good time at the game. Stay tuned for news later in the season, and I hope to see you all at the next game to cheer on our Bears! No other news from the Ridge for this week, but be sure to check back next week!

So says a study with the unwieldy title of “English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA): Can Internet/ Email Use Reduce Cognitive Decline?”

The study used a large group -6,400 adults in Britain -- ages 50 to 89, with annual retests for eight years. As tests of memory, they were given 10-word lists for later recall.

The conclusion was that good health, financial status and education -- and digital literacy -- resulted in better memory. Those who didn’t use the Internet showed declines.

Current users increased their recall capability.

It is also associated with daydreaming and flights of imagination, fairylands, and fairy tales. I once played with a team of seniors who went to the Senior Games for the big national basketball tournament. On the flight there I closed my eyes and started to envision playing before thousands of fans. In my dream I saw myself make the winning basket in the closing seconds and then be carried off the court by my teammates in a great victory celebration. I can tell you this was NOT a vision: it was a fantasy, a flight of imagination. In reality, I played only a few minutes, scored no points whatsoever, and made only a nominal contribution to our one victory.

Tony is right, however the word “vision” can be misleading. A vision could mean a prophecy such as is found in the Old Testament. It is also associated with things such as auras, countenances, ESP, psychic powers, unexplained phenomena, even hallucinations.

The word “vision” could also refer to delusional thinking. I once asked a very slight, almost effeminate acting man what he did for a living. He said, “I’m a professional athlete!” His comment turned his wife’s head with a surprised look.

“That’s fascinating,” I responded. What sport do you play?” “I’m a professional bowler.” He told me. After visiting awhile I found out he was the assistant manager at a small retail store in a mall and the member of a bowling league. He didn’t

word “perception.” I know it is not as sexy as vision, but it is much more helpful.

Perception helps you quiet the noise, clear the confusion, overcome the temptation, banish the fears, heal the hurts, plan with precision, open your eyes to the real you, and in the process, produce in you, real confidence.

WILL MENOPAUSE SHRINK FIBROID? DEAR DR. ROACH: I am 50 years old.

In the past three months there have been indicators that I am perimenopausal. I have a very large fibroid. It is described as “six months” in size. I am not a candidate for embolization. I presently have no painful symptoms, and, with iron therapy, I am no longer anemic.

Doctors have recommended a hysterectomy. However, I am reluctant, as I am so close to menopause and believe the tumor should shrink. What are the risks of not removing this large fibroid? I am aware this surgery is common; however, I have profound concern about the risk of blood loss. -- L.L. ANSWER: A fibroid, also called a leiomyoma, is a (usually) benign tumor of the uterus. Fibroids may cause symptoms of bleeding, pain or pressure, or may have no symptoms at all. Gynecologists describe the size of the uterus with its fibroid as the equivalent of a pregnant uterus, so “six months” is a large fibroid indeed. Gynecologists will follow the size of the fibroid by exam or ultrasound in order to show that it is stable. A growing fibroid is suspicious for a sarcoma, a malignant tumor that 1 percent to 2 percent of fibroids transform into.

My left shin started hurting a little more than three weeks ago, and I ran once or twice on it, then I stopped, but it still hurts. Is this normal? When do you think I can run on it? I don’t think it was increasing my distance that did it, but I did a longer run on a flat path that I normally do with hills, so I thought maybe that was the problem -- but three weeks seems like too long. -- H.O. ANSWER: Pain in the shin bone (tibia) is common in runners, but the hard part is distinguishing between “shin splints,” properly called “medial tibial stress syndrome,” and a stress fracture of the tibia.

A stress fracture usually has a discrete area of tenderness, but MTSS has more diffuse tenderness. An X-ray may be needed to be sure it isn’t a stress fracture, since the treatment is very different. A runner with a stress fracture needs to avoid impact activities like running, whereas MTSS usually gets better with just lower running mileage.

In your case, the degree of pain is higher than I would expect after three weeks. I’d recommend an X-ray.

• On Sept. 10, 1813, in the first unqualified defeat of a British naval squadron in history, U.S. naval commander Oliver Hazard Perry leads a fleet of nine American ships to victory over a squadron of six British warships. After the battle, Perry sent a famous dispatch to U.S. Gen. William Henry Harrison that read, “We have met the enemy, and they are ours.â€? • On Sept. 11, 1857, Mormon guerillas, stoked by a deep resentment of decades of public abuse and federal interference, murder 120 emigrants at Mountain Meadows, Utah. don’t think I can remember a time when a movie about advanced robots rebelling and attempting to overrun mankind was viewed as original or fresh. It was all the rage in the 90’s. But at this point, it’s the oldest trick in the book. We’ve seen this before. We’ve also probably all thought about the haunting reality of it in our day and age. People are constantly freaking out about how quickly technology is growing. Can we control it? Do we really understand the devices we use?

Last week, one of the bigger celebrity stories of the decade broke out when a number of private photos were leaked on the internet. All of the photos were of famous actresses or singers. All of the photos were, how shall we say, inappropriate.

We’ve seen things like this before,

but this time it was different. The women in question weren’t your typical burnout celebs who likely have addiction problems. Often times when controversial photos hit the web, the celebrities are the most likely to have put them there.

In this case, the women were highly respected in the business. There’s no way they had anything to do with it.

The worst part is that we have ourselves to blame. We knew what we were getting into. We knew the internet was something we didn’t understand, yet we exposed our lives to it anyway. The internet knows some people better than any human ever will. So do you have something to hide? Have you invested your secrets, health conditions, addictions, and forbidden desires into your dubious technologies? You better hope not. Because what happens in Vegas now, stays on the internet; there is no sacred city of secrecy; no place to hide.
