She lived out the rest of her life in a hospital close by but it seems that her spirit has returned to the house.

all that and nothing seems to have what it takes to make your heart race with fright. In that case, we’ve got the solution! Snippetz has done some paranormal research and rounded up some haunted restaurants for you to consider. So come with us as we sample some of the country’s most notoriously haunted eateries!
Zoe is said to wander the house wearing a long black dress and wire rim glasses. People who claim to have seen her often report that they didn’t know she was a ghost until they saw the picture of her on the wall and recognized her. Others claim to have seen her waving to them from a second story window.
POOGAN’S PORCH Located in Charleston, South Carolina, this restaurant was actually built as a house in 1888. It gets its name from a friendly neighborhood dog that used to show up on the porch when Bobbie Ball renovated the house in 1976 to accommodate the restaurant. Ball eventually adopted Poogan and the pup became the unofficial host of the establishment.
ARNAUD’S This restaurant, appropriately located in “The Most Haunted City in America,” aka New Orleans, is said to be home to more than one apparition. The first is believed to be Arnaud Cazenave, a French wine salesman who purchased the space in 1918. He is said to be seen wearing an old-fashioned tuxedo, standing near the windows in the main dining room. Cazenave seems to appear when the restaurant is busiest, almost like he’s keeping an eye on things as he probably did when he was alive.

But Poogan’s Porch has had more than one unusual visitor. It’s said that one of the former residents of the house, Zoe St. Amand, can be seen wandering around the place at all hours of the day or night. The story says that Amand used to live as a spinster with her sister Elizabeth in
McCord’s Garden Center and Landscaping
The spirit of a woman wearing a fashionable hat was also reported in the restaurant. She supposedly exited the women’s restroom and walked across the hall, disappearing through the opposite wall. The consensus was that the wall she moved through had actually been built fairly recently and that on the other side was a staircase, leading to the conclusion that she was taking a route she probably had taken when she was alive, long before the wall was built.
PARKVIEW RESTAURANT Built in 1867, this restaurant is located in Owego, New York. Since then, the Irish pub and restaurant has changed hands many times, only to end up under owner Beth Johnson’s care. She and her husband renovated the space and during that time, both claim to have had paranormal experiences there. Chiming dinner bells and sealed up rooms that hold unknown secrets are just a few examples. A paranormal investigation team even came to document the activity and left with reHaunted Restaurants... BIG NOSE KATE’S SALOON Located in Tombstone, Arizona, Big Nose Kate’s was originally called the Grand Hotel. It was renamed after Mary Katherine Haroney, rumored to be the first prostitute in the town. As with Arnaud’s this restaurant claims to have more than one spirit wandering throughout the building. George’s ghost is thought to be responsible for shattering bottles of liquor, causing signs in the bar to begin swinging on their own, flinging bottles of beer off the shelves and appearing in photographs as an orb. George may not be alone in his hauntings; one employee reported seeing a woman seated at a table who didn’t respond to anything the employee said. Unnerved, the employee ran to tell someone but when they returned, the ghost has disappeared.
Supposedly, about six other people witnessed the altercation and helped Stone bury the man in the basement. That same man supposedly haunts the restaurant, touching people, breaking glasses, causing marked decreases in the temperature of a room and appearing as a mysterious shadowy figure.

This restaurant, located in Big Bear Lake, California was home to illegal gambling during the 40s and 50s. The bookkeeper who was keeping track of the gambling money, a man named George apparently decided to embezzle some of the money. Although it’s unclear exactly what happened, George was found dead in the upstairs office of the building. Some believe he committed suicide and others theorize someone murdered him.
This haunted restaurant is located in Ashland, Massachusetts and is also rumored to have more than one ghost in residence. The building was constructed in 1834 by John Stone, who also happens to be one of the apparitions that appears frequently. Stone was said to have killed a New York man who Stone accused of cheating in a card game in one of the upper rooms of the building.

The ghosts at Country House are said to be those of the woman and her baby. The woman is said to bang on the walls and doors and make the jukebox play on its own. Others have reported seeing her in an upstairs window. Both employees and guests have claimed to have heard a baby crying somewhere in the building even though there wasn’t a baby around.
There is one ghost that stands out among the rest, known as the Swamper. The story says that he lived in the basement of the saloon and managed to burrow beneath the restaurant, under the street and into a nearby silver mine. During the night, he would crawl through his tunnel and steal unknown amounts of silver. Voices and other suspicious sounds can still be heard in the tunnel today.

The tale behind the hauntings at this Claredon Hills, Illinois restaurant is a sad one for sure. It goes like this: many years ago, a bartender at the restaurant was dating a young woman. She was the mother of an infant at the time and she stopped by the restaurant one day to ask her boyfriend to watch the baby. The bartender said he couldn’t and the woman stormed off with her baby, hopped into her car and took off down the road. She smashed into a tree and both she and her baby were killed.

PILLAR OF MIND
T
he mind is a powerful tool or it can be a powerful negative force in a person’s life. The mind holds onto memories, experiences, false beliefs, and thought patterns. A person’s mind can lie, manipulate, change memories, suppress memories, and form denial. In the positive, a person’s mind has the ability to accurately remember memories, identify false beliefs in order to heal them, change thought patterns, and change perceptions. The difference is how the person chooses to use his or her mind. Many do not understand how the mind works and its relation to the brain. The brain is an organ. It has
heal, that person is examining what is in the mind that is not creating a joyful life. In that process, he or she is clearing out old energies that keep the mind stagnant. That will create an effect on the brain as well, since the two are connected. A person who chooses to heal may need some assistance in understanding how the mind works, how beliefs work, and how to create a reality without using painful beliefs.
its physical functions to operate the body. Physically, it controls everything. The mind is not an organ, but rather an energetic field. It holds energies, such as beliefs, thought patterns, and memories. Beliefs, thought patterns, and memories are not physical.
A Tai Yi treatment called Pillar of Mind assists people to use their mind
to self-create by NOT using beliefs or other people’s creations. These beliefs/thought patterns are contrary to a person’s purpose or soul. When a person acts out beliefs that are contrary to the soul, it creates low or deep depression/anxiety. This exercise works with that and makes the beliefs weaker, allowing more positive experience to the person. The relation between the mind and brain is that the mind controls the brain. When the mind is polluted with energies (memories, beliefs, thought patterns) that are stagnant, angry, depressing, and fearful, the mind can and does alter its relationship with the brain. That means the brain begins functioning differently. The brain chemicals might become out of balance, certain parts of the brain may show difficulty in functioning and create physical difficulties in the body. For example, over a lengthy time, a person may see issues with front temporal lobe dementia.

In Asia, spices moved across the continent by land, and were the heart of an important and lucrative commerce. Hundreds of years after that, with the invention of sophisticated navigational vessels, explorers and traders took to the seas, along with their prized cargo of spices. The curries we see today are descendants of mixtures that date back 4,000 years. Thanks to archeological advances, scientists can determine what our ancestors ate by examining skeletons and ancient pieces of pottery. We know that even then, a form of curry was part of the primitive culinary landscape. While curries vary from place to place, they all seem to have evolved from the basic spices of ginger, garlic and turmeric. Curries can consist of countless ingredients, from cumin and coriander to hot chilies and lemongrass. While some curries are dry, most are added to a stew, combined with actual curry, bay or lime leaves, and vegetable, beef or chicken stock or coconut milk. There is a strong history of meat in these stews, but The Kitchen Diva Continued on Page 7

Many curries are the color of gold, and it is an interesting coincidence, because the curry spices at one time traded as if they were gold. For thousands of years, humans have valued the qualities of aromatic plants. Spices were coveted everywhere and used in everything from cuisine to medicines.

• Keep your door locked when you’re home alone, even if you live in a safe neighborhood. • If you’re on social media, be careful what you reveal online. Never say that you live alone. • Be aware in the kitchen. Be sure the stove and other appliances are off when you’re finished with them. Mop up spills. Have a fire extinguisher and know how to use it.
• One of the best ways to stay safe is to stay in touch with others. If it’s available, sign up for daily caller service, likely through your senior center. Or make a deal with a neighbor that you’ll check in with each other every morning by phone. Sign up for Meals on Wheels or attend • Turn on a light when you reach meals at a local senior center. for your weekly pill container to be sure you don’t grab the wrong day’s For more hints, go online and search pills. for “seniors living alone safety.” • Invest in a few of those small “tap” lights -- the kind you touch on top to turn on -- and put them along your path to various rooms, especially if you have to cross a room in the dark before reaching a lamp.
• Use a ladder and stepstool only if someone else is around. Keep things you need on lower shelves. • Guard against slipping. Beware of scatter rugs that slide easily on

TALK By Ron Ross

ou are about to change the total direction of your life. You are going to move from a life of relative idleness to one of ambition and perhaps even sacrifice and the transition can be scary. You need to talk. Some people will think you are nuts if you declare your intention to make a difference with your life. You probably do not need therapy, but you do need to discuss your thoughts, aspirations and concerns

First of all, choose someone who will listen and not do too much talking. That will probably NOT be your best friend or a member of your immediate family. as best I can tell. The MRI scan you had also might have included an MRA (magnetic resonance angiography), which is a special form of MRI that looks specifically at the blood vessel. I am not sure about the vascular check you had, but I would suspect it might have been an echocardiogram, especially one that looks at the aortic arch, where emboli sometimes form, as well as a look at the blood vessels in the neck with a Doppler ultrasound. An echo done through the esophagus may be better at spotting problems than one done through the chest.
TIA EVENTS LAUNCH SEARCH FOR CAUSE DEAR DR. ROACH: In the past six weeks, I have had five TIA events, ranging from a minute or so to six minutes. My symptoms are: a loss of control of my right leg, moving up to my right arm and fingers; and a loss of speech. I am aware and thinking during these episodes, although a little disoriented. I was hospitalized after the last one and was given a CT scan, an MRI and many blood tests: All were “normal” for my age (which is 68). A vascular check was done, as my BP was different when taken in both arms, and they say that was normal also. A 24-hour heart monitor is yet to be read. My doctor put me on Aggrenox 25/200. My mom had a stroke at 42 and passed away at 49, diagnosed as a thrombosis to her heart. What is the next step? I am so anxious all the time, waiting for something to happen. -- L.C.
Aggrenox is a combination of aspirin and dipyridamole, which make the platelets less “sticky” and reduce the risk of a blood clot and stroke. It’s a reasonable choice to prevent further TIA and stroke. Some authorities recommend a statin to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. Finally, something that’s easy for me to say but hard to do: relax. Being anxious all the time isn’t good for you. It sounds like your doctor is doing the right things and that you are on a good medication to prevent further problems. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I need some medications, like Dulcolax and Miralax, for some tests. The generics are so much cheaper. Is there much difference, compared with the expensive brand? -- J.M. ANSWER: In my experience, there is almost no difference between the brand name and the generic for prescription and most over-the-counter medicines. The quantity and quality of the active ingredient is regulated. The inactive ingredients occasionally may cause a reaction in a sensitive person. Most physicians, including myself, use generic brands for themselves and their families.
ANSWER: “TIA” stands for “transient ischemic attack.” It has the symptoms of a stroke, but by definition lasts less than 24 hours. The symptoms you are describing are in the distribution of the middle cerebral artery in the left hemisphere of the brain. This could be caused by a blockage in the artery or, less likely, by an embolism (a small blood clot or cholesterol going to that part of the brain).
Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but he will incorporate them in his column whenever possible. Readers may write him or request an order form of available health newsletters at P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475.

• On Nov. 1, 1512, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, one of Italian artist Michelangelo’s finest works, is first exhibited to the public. Michelangelo’s epic ceiling frescoes consist of nine panels devoted to biblical world history. The most famous of these is The Creation of Adam, a painting in which the arms of God and Adam are stretching toward each other. • On Oct. 27, 1858, Theodore Roosevelt, the future 26th president of the United States, is born in New York City. As president, he insisted on a strong navy, encouraged the construction of the Panama Canal and set aside land for America’s first national parks and monuments. • On Oct. 29, 1915, President Woodrow Wilson assured social activist Jane Addams that he had no intention of leading the U.S. into war; he was re-elected on the slogan “He Kept Us Out of War.â€? By April 1917 Wilson delivered his war message to Congress and the U.S. entered World War I.
• On Oct. 28, 1922, hundreds of people gather around radios to hear the first-ever cross-country telephone broadcast of a college football game, played between the Chicago Maroons and the Princeton Tigers. The first live broadcast of a college football game didn’t happen until 1924. • On Oct. 31, 1961, five years after Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev denounced Stalinism, Joseph Stalin’s embalmed body is removed from public display in Lenin’s tomb in Moscow’s Red Square. When Vladimir Lenin died in 1924, he was embalmed and placed in a mausoleum featuring glass casing. • On Oct. 30, 1974, 32-year-old Muhammad Ali becomes the heavyweight champion of the world for the second time when he knocks out 25-year-old champ George Foreman in the “Rumble in the Jungle.â€? Seven years before, Ali had lost his title when the government accused him of draftdodging.

THE LETTER
I
by Nick Yanez
never knew how much music could actually effect the world until Utah native Emily Morsal changed everything. It started on YouTube (like most things worth reporting these days). From a distance, Emily seemed like an ordinary 8-year old songstress. Plenty of little girls shove themselves in front of a camera and sing contemporary hits. Normally it’s cute, if not a little contrived. But with Emily it was different. You know that feeling when you hear a young kid absolutely astound you with his mature and technically perfect vocal? This was not like that. This was the opposite. Emily Morsal happened to be the worst singer in the history of the universe. She sang these horrible original songs, which only consist of this strange shrieking and whispering, and then put them on YouTube for the whole world to hear. People could hardly listen without gagging. Yet, for an unknown reason, listeners were constantly drawn back. Exactly three weeks before the writing of this article Emily uploaded her first sorry excuse for a song to the internet. As of the time you’re reading this, she’ll have over 900-million Youtube views. A reporter by the name of Clint Forjeri wanted to know why.
had eaten a human. He was on the run and considered highly dangerous.
Lisa Welch Stevens Attorney at Law, P.C.
Clint Forjeri warned the parents of the other victims. Then Forjeri headed where no one else would think - to the Utah home of Emily Morsal. He brought a recorder. The following is the account…
Admitted to Colorado State Bar and U.S. Federal Bar for the District of Colorado
Clint: I’m at a vacated property in the Salt Flats. There is no sign of a vehicle or really any human life form. The yard is scattered with tricycles and the remains of a broken swing set. What’s that!? Strange, I thought I just saw a doll running…

Clint: Hello young lady. Where is all the furnitu- AAHHHHHGGG!” (Screaming)
Suspect: What would you like to talk about Clint? Wanna talk about my dolls?
Clint: How are you making them zombie’s!? Who sent you!?
Clint: No Emily, I just wanted to talk about your beautiful singing. Are your Parents home?”
(crashing noises) (inaudible) (screaming)
(Loud group laughter) (Footsteps)
Unfortunately, that’s the last recovered audio from the tape Clint was carrying. I’m writing this letter from the shelter. If you’re still out there, if you’re still alive, please
In a report by The Metro Sun out of Barrow, Alaska (for which Forjeri edits/writes) Emily Morsal had under 100,000 unique listeners. Meaning each person who listens to one of Morsal’s “songs” is expected to listen to it about 100 times more! Forjeri saw something wasn’t right, so he decided to visit one of Morsal’s listeners, a young man from Jersey.

DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED!
Vincent James Fercelli was 17-years old. When Forjeri arrived at his home, after traveling cross-country, he didn’t find what he expected. Fercelli, by every account was a normal suburban kid. He ran track and held a 3.2 High School GPA as a senior. Why would a perfectly normal kid obsessively listen to the shrieking of an 8-year old monster?
Please check our website:
It turns out, something was different about Fercelli. He was very ill. His parents, surprised that a writer from the highly-renowned Sun Times had traveled so far to interview their son, told Forjeri that their boy had been stricken with a violent illness about three weeks earlier. His skin started to turn a blue color and his appetite had diminished except for raw, live animals. Clint Forjeri found his story, but not the one he wanted.
www.trilakeschamber.com
In an effort to disprove his theory, he started visiting other listeners. But sure enough, they had come down with the mysterious illness too. Then it broke, like a wildfire jumping on a pile of pine needles, every news station in the first world reported the horrible scene on the Jersey Pier. Vincent James Fercelli

LIVING GOD’S GIFTS bringing Christ into your financial life
INVESTING FROM A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
by Chuck Maher, CFP®
...BRING CHRIST INTO OUR FINANCIAL LIVES
DO YOU STILL NEED LIFE INSURANCE?
I
am often asked that question. Many times by those who are approaching retirement and are trying to get control of their budget and spending. They tend to look at life insurance as an expense as opposed to an asset. Even those who fully understand the costs and potential benefits of life insurance may wonder whether they still need it, and its expense, as they age and their children have become self-supporting. The answer for many retirees, if not most, is yes – often more so now than when they were young. Here are some things to consider:
PROTECTING YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE Even though your children may no longer need your financial support, you and yours have created a lifestyle that depends upon income, whether you’re still working, receiving a pension or taking distributions from your investments. Regardless of where the income is coming from, what happens if it stops? How will the bills be paid? Life insurance benefits can provide the cash needed to pay off debt and replace lost income. Even with survivor benefits, losing one spouse’s Social Security benefit can create financial hardship for the survivor. Widows and widowers aged 55 and older are more likely to live in poverty than married people in the same age group
HELP FOR YOUR HEIRS Due to higher current exemption levels, fewer families are facing federal estate taxes; however other end-of-life costs, medical expenses, legal costs, debt repayment, and other final expenses can create a financial burden for the heirs. Because life insurance death benefits are typically paid relatively quickly,
the proceeds can provide much needed liquidity for your estate and relieve your family of the financial stress that can surround a death. Additionally, life insurance death benefits are generally not subject to federal income tax.
Honoring God with Your Financial Blessings
A TEMPORARY SOLUTION
CHUCK MAHER CFP PO Box 39 Monument, CO 80132
A term life insurance policy provides coverage for a specified period of time i.e. 10 years, 20 years, or annually renewable. It is generally the most affordable type of life insurance, especially in the early years, but premiums can become more expensive with age. If you have a term policy that is scheduled to expire, you might be able to extend coverage or convert it to a permanent life policy if you want to continue coverage. You may want to discuss your options with your agent or your insurance carrier directly.
A PERMANENT SOLUTION

Withdrawals of the accumulated cash value, up to the amount of the premiums paid, are not subject to income tax. Loans are also free of income tax as long as they are repaid. However, loans and withdrawals will reduce the policy’s cash value and death benefit. Life insurance can be complicated, but it doesn’t need to be. I recommend for everyone preparing for retirement, as well as those in retirement, to get a life insurance needs analysis. This can help you appreciate the financial needs of those dependent on the income you provide and offer solutions for the continuation of that income when you no longer can. “If anyone does not provide for his own relatives and especially for members of his immediate family, he has denied the faith: he is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8

Permanent life insurance offers a guaranteed death benefit and lifetime protection as long as you pay the premiums. Even though the cost of permanent insurance is usually higher than for term insurance, premiums typically remain level over your lifetime, and a portion of the insurance premium goes into a cash-value account that accumulates on a tax-deferred basis. Not only can cash values increase the death benefit but you may be able to borrow against them.
