or some of us, self-expression is one of the hardest things to successfully do. Our emotions can be overwhelming enough as it is without us struggling to explain them to someone else. But truly, expressing yourself is a major element when it comes to dealing with life. We have to take the good with the bad, the ugly, and the downright unbearable. But the question is HOW do we do that? There is no one perfect way; it’s different for everyone. That’s not very helpful for the person out there reading this, hoping we’ve got all the answers. But fear not! We’ve done some research and discovered some interesting and unique forms of self-expression. Who knows . . . maybe one will be right for you!

Not everyone is skilled with a paintbrush or can write beautiful poetry. Luckily, there are plenty of other ways to show how you feel inside. You’ve probably heard the expression “The way to a man’s heart is through is stomach.” Well, this is sort of like that. We’re talking about cooking! Here are some interesting ideas for how to express yourself through food.
Or how about visiting a family in New Zealand who will teach you Maori traditions as you learn how to cook an authentic hangi meal? You don’t have to travel across the world, though. There are plenty of classes offered through sites like Groupon or LivingSocial that take place a little closer to home.

Online websites like TasteBook.com allow you to upload your favorite recipes and photos into a design-your-owncookbook. Forget finding a publisher; just build your cookbook online and save it or even have it printed so you can show off your culinary prowess in person.
SAY IT WITH A LETTER
OK, it probably doesn’t sound unique to write a letter to someone to express your feelings. In fact, you might have even tried this when you were younger, by spritzing your perfume or cologne on the page to help elicit a stronger emotional response to your words. But there’s always the risk that the recipient will have a strong negative reaction to the smell (and thus to you), regardless of your masterful prose. Maybe you need a more modern way to add that little something extra. Consider taking an ordinary envelope, carefully unfolding it and adding an interesting design/ picture/collage to the inside of it.
Maybe you aren’t the type who already knows how to cook. That’s not a prob-

SAY IT WITH JEWELRY
This isn’t what it sounds. We’re not suggesting you run to the nearest jewelry store and max out your credit cards. However, jewelry has long been a way for individuals to show their own sense of style, to express their feelings through a special ring, or necklace. But maybe you don’t want what everyone else has. Maybe you want something that’s just for you . . . and maybe you don’t have a lump of silver or some gorgeous gemstones lying around, waiting to be transformed into a beautiful pair of earrings. That’s when you need a design-it-yourself website like gemvara. com, egjewelry.com or delusha.com. You can create your own statement piece without having any jewelry-making skills whatsoever. Hooray!
SAY IT WITH A NEWSPAPER . . . ?
No, you don’t have to get a job as a writer at your local newspaper for this one. You just need to be able to read, use a black permanent marker and have a sense of how words fit together to describe a central idea. Here’s how it’s done: find an article or story that has a word or phrase that fits what you are trying to portray. That’s your anchor. Now, look through the rest of the piece to find other words that connect, ideawise. Black out everything else and you’ll have a wonderfully expressive representation of how you feel. SAY IT WITH PAINT AND WINE
These two may not seem like a good pair, but lately tons of franchises have popped up that provide you with both in order to create a memorable piece of work and a memorable evening. Painting with a Twist and Canvas Uncorked are two such local franchises. The idea is that you and a friend (or two or three) can get together to enjoy an evening of alcohol (or not) and painting. A teacher walks you through the basics to create a specific painting and then sets you free to put your own touch on it. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, as long as you’re having fun. Of course, the alcohol can help but there’s never a requirement to drink and there are family sessions offered as well so your under-21 family members can join in the fun.
SAY IT WITH WORDS (DUH) AND PICTURES
Yes, this is an obvious one. But there’s more to it than meets the eye. We know that writing is standard way to express yourself. But sometimes the words elude us. A great way to open up your mind is through art journaling. This practice combines the precision of the written word with the creativity of drawing or painting. Here’s the idea: using a prompt such as “draw your favorite bird,” you create a picture based on that topic and then you write some-

thing about it. There are a few websites that can facilitate your art journaling journey, such as artcampforwomen. com, and FYI, you don’t HAVE to be a woman to log on and participate. The website has a daily art journaling project for anyone interested in following along. It gives you an art prompt and writing prompt so you have a direction to go every day. As with every other form of self-expression, you don’t have to make it perfect. No one is grading your performance. The idea is to open up your mind and help you explore different parts of yourself that perhaps you never knew existed.

SAY IT THROUGH DANCE
Not everyone is comfortable with dancing in front of people. But for those of you who aren’t too self-conscious to get out on the floor and cut a rug, dancing just might be the ideal form of self-expression. There are many ways to find the right dance class for you. Groupon and LivingSocial often have deals for classes at a discounted rate. But perhaps you need something more adventurous than ballroom dancing lessons. Consider a tribal or belly dancing camp. You can learn about a different culture, explore other customs and rituals, as well as learn how to dance! The American Psychological Association recognizes dance as another “language” to express your emotions so maybe whiling away the hours on the dance floor is just the ticket for expressing how you feel.

HOW DOES LIFE ENERGY FLOW TAI YI WORK?
L
ife Energy Flow Tai Yi (pronounced Tie Yee) means Supreme Health in English and is designed to assist ones in gaining supreme health. Treatments range from treating heart disease, digestive functioning, brain injuries, immune system, and skin protection, to treating anger, depression, confusion, and brain fog. These are simply a few of the different ways treatments can assist people. How can a healing modality work like this? Within our body we have meridians. See the meridians like water pipes. When the pipe is frozen, clogged, or

leaking, the water flow is interrupted. When a plumper can resolve the reason for the water flow interruption, the water naturally begins moving again. Imagine if the plumper simply turned up the water pressure sky high. You’d have a disaster! That would be like trying to fix the symptom, not the cause. One can search meridians online as well.
Many times, in a treatment, the client will feel the practitioner placing pressure points in areas of the torso, head, legs, and/or arms. These points change depending on the treatment. The practitioner will continue using different
Life Energy Flow Tai Yi recognizes twelve sets of meridians throughout the body. When the meridians are having issues or are contaminated, the flow of energy becomes interrupted and you feel the results. The results can be a range of symptoms, such as confusion or a low immune system or fear/anxiety or brain difficulty. Tai Yi is designed to treat what’s causing the difficulty, not treat the symptom.
techniques in a precise manner that work with the pressure points-again depending on the chosen treatment. Each treatment usually is offered with counseling regarding what to do and begin changing in order to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment. If you use the analogy above of the water pipe, and something had clogged it, you’d probably change what had led to the clog. Change must occur for healing to occur. When traditional methods have not produced the results you’d like, consider Life Energy Flow Tai Yi. ChristmasALTERNATIVE! Special! THE HEALTHY
THE 5000+ PERCENT ADVANTAGE PART 4.6
PROCEED FORWARD: NOURISHES YOUR SOUL By Dr. Ron D. Ross
Doing nothing is the hardest work there is. If you do physical work all day long you will come home tired. If you get up late and lay around the house all day in your pajamas, eat junk food, leave the dishes in the sink, let the yard go to seed and then moan and complain that all you have is bad luck you will also be exhausted at the end of the day. Laziness and work are both exhausting: work exhausts the body but laziness exhausts the soul. The exhaustion that comes from laziness is disheartening and destructive while the exhaustion that comes from meaningful work is restorative and constructive. When you finally decide to seek the 5000+ percent advantage and proceed forward toward your goals you will find the hard work you do, the difficult tasks you face, the problems you encounter and solve will make you tired, but it will be a good kind of tired; the kind of tired that lets you know you made real progress, that your presence on this planet makes a difference. People with no purpose for living, no identifiable goals, no vision for a better life are miserable, pathetic, selfish and good-for-nothing. They don’t seek to improve themselves, they blame others for their plight, and should some opportunity come their way, they do all they can to find fault with it and sabotage it so they can return to their comfortable misery. Those kinds of people have their own theme song called The Worm Song. It goes like this: “Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, guess I’ll go eat
worms. Long thin slimy ones, short fat juicy ones, itsy, bitsy, squirmy little worms.”
ALLHamburger NATURAL Sensational Package

How depressing is that? You want the opposite of depression, you want joy, and that requires the pursuit of a meaningful life. That requires taking action toward fulfilling your God-given destiny. Do not be afraid of the work it will take to become the person you were meant to be.

SNIPPETZ™ DINING GUIDE Rhubarb is often called the “pie plant.” It is delicious when mixed with strawberries and other fruit in pies and cobblers. It’s also good in relishes and compotes, and in dishes that showcase its tangy flavor.
PRETTY DELICIOUS IN PINK
G
et ready to pucker up. Because it’s time for rhubarb -- a sweet, tart treat. Loved by many, and misunderstood by more than a few, rhubarb with its deep-pink stalks is often a little hard to find. But keep searching because this jewel of spring is not to be missed.
Rhubarb is the star of this recipe for Pork Chops with Spicy Rhubarb and Golden Raisin Sauce. The tartness of the rhubarb combined with the sweetness of the raisins is the perfect complement for the richness of the pork chops.

1. In a small bowl, combine raisins with vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and 1/4 cup hot water; let stand 10 minutes to soften.
Rhubarb is at its best when the stalks are thin, red and have a crisp texture. If the stalks are floppy, it means that it’s not freshly picked. Wrap rhubarb stalks in plastic and refrigerate for up to a week. Rhubarb also is sold frozen in some areas and can be used in place of fresh.
Its gorgeous pink color is an indicator that rhubarb is full of antioxidants, as well as calcium and fiber. Rhubarb will keep in your refrigerator for up to a week, but to enjoy its full flavor, use it right after buying or harvesting.
Tuesday - Friday 5 - 9 pm • Saturday 11:30 am - 9 pm
1/2 cup golden raisins 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon plus 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 cup finely chopped onion 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 small jalapeno, with ribs and seeds, diced 8 to 10 ounces rhubarb, ends trimmed, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch pieces (2 cups) 3 tablespoons sugar 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons ground pepper 2 tablespoons poultry seasoning 4 pork loin chops, (each 1/2 inch thick and 6 to 8 ounces)
2. In a small saucepan, heat 1 teaspoon oil over medium-low heat. Add onion; cook until softened, 3 to 5 minutes. Add garlic and jalapeno and cook for another 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
The lip-puckering, tart flavor of rhubarb also requires some getting used to. Some varieties are sweeter than others and can be eaten raw, but that’s not common. Rhubarb really comes alive when it is cooked, either stewed or roasted, and mixed with other ingredients. In sweet and savory dishes, this tart vegetable lends a special flavor that can’t be compared to anything else.

PORK CHOPS WITH SPICY RHUBARB AND SAUCE
Rhubarb can be a rare discovery, even when in season. For many, it’s still a taste never tried. Others may have tasted rhubarb that had fallen into the wrong hands, leaving them with an unfortunate first impression. So why doesn’t this lovely fruit have a wider appeal? For starters, it’s not technically a fruit, but a herbaceous perennial vegetable. However, in 1947 a New York State court decided that since it was most frequently used as a fruit, it would be classified for regulation and duty purposes as such.
It’s true that some parts of the plant are poisonous. The colorful stalks are what we eat, but the leaves contain toxins. This usually is not a problem, as the rhubarb in the market already has the leaves removed. Those lucky enough to have their own rhubarb plant know about this minor imperfection and handle it appropriately.

• It was Nobel Peace Prize-winning philosopher Albert Schweitzer who made the following sage observation: “The great secret of success is to go through life as a man who never gets used up. That is possible for him who never argues and strives with men and facts, but in all experience relies upon himself, and looks for the ultimate cause of things in himself.” • In the United Kingdom it is illegal to deface paper money, but it’s perfectly legal to burn it. • Gene Cernan was the 12th -- and last -human to walk on the moon, in December 1972. While he was there, he scratched his daughter’s initials onto the lunar surface. Those initials, “TDC,” are likely to remain there for tens of thousands of years. • According to the folklore of Wales, fairies prefer traveling on the backs of corgis to any other mode of transport.
• You may be surprised to learn that most Greek and Roman statuary and architecture weren’t originally the pristine white we see today. Archaeologists have found evidence that these structures and sculptures were brightly painted in ancient times; the paint has just worn off in the intervening centuries. • Most muppeteers are right-handed and use their dominant hand to operate their puppets’ heads; therefore, most muppets are left-handed. • If you have kids between the ages of 9 and 11, you might be interested to learn that nearly half of respondents in a survey believe that is the appropriate age for kids to begin helping vacuum the house. • The White House’s first display of fireworks to celebrate Independence Day occurred in 1797 and was hosted by President John Adams. *** Thought for the Day: “There are some experiences in life which should not be demanded twice from any man, and one of them is listening to the Brahms Requiem.” -- George Bernard Shaw (c) 2015 King Features Synd., Inc.

re the kids talking about summer camp yet? It’s time to start investigating the possibilities and get them signed up. Look into day or sleep-away camps at colleges near you. Look for math, computer and science camps run by older students. Drama majors especially love to introduce theater to kids. The fees for these day camps are typically fairly low. For older kids, combining sleep-away camp with their interests could lead to new career possibilities. Spending a week on a farm could lead an animal lover in the direction of veterinary medicine. A water or ocean-related camp could lead to a career in marine ecology. A week at video camp could open opportunities in television, digital media, advertising and more. When it comes to special interests, no matter what they are, there’s a camp for it. If your child wants to get a head start

with SAT tests, there are prep camps for that. Photography, rock music songwriting, entrepreneurship, wilderness adventure -- they all have camps. Check www.camppage.com and explore the information in the drop-down menus. Search through the offerings at www. campresource.com. It has comprehensive listings of sleep-away camps, day camps, co-ed, boys, girls and traditional camps. Use the drop-down menus to search for camp types, activities and locations. For kids who want a new experience, search for camps that

emphasize Nashville music, rodeo riding, PGA golf or hockey. Look for teen travel camps that provide tours and camps all over the globe. Language majors can take advantage of language immersion camps and tours, and more. There’s even a roller-coaster camp! It involves visiting amusement parks across the country in one, two, three, four and six-week camps. For younger children that you want to keep nearby, check the resources around you for traditional camps at recreation departments, the YMCA and churches. They’re sure to provide plen-
ty of summer activities: swimming, boating, archery, sports, arts and crafts, and singing around the campfire. When it comes to choosing a camp, the American Camp Association has mustread information at www.acacamps. org. Look for How to Choose a Camp: Safety Tips. Learn about the difference between accreditation versus licensing, questions to ask camp directors, camper-to-counselor ratios and how the camp handles behavioral and disciplinary problems.
