Zenkoji Temple is a National Treasure and will hold its very special and unique Gokaicho festival this spring (2015). The original Amidha Golden Triad has been completely hidden since the year 654. The hidden “sacred replica” of the Amidha Golden Triad will be revealed for all to see during Gokaicho from the 5th of April to the 31st of May. Many other Buddhist ceremonies will be held during this time, and it is also the perfect season to enjoy the cherry blossoms! Higashi-sando

Kaede-no-yu is conveniently located next to Yudanaka Station. There are separate indoor and outdoor baths for men and women. There is also a foot bath and beautiful 400 year old maple tree just outside the onsen.
Onsen manju are soft steamed buns filled with sweet red bean paste traditionally cooked by the steam from the hot springs. Look out for the Japanese characters ”温泉まんじゅう” (onsen Manju) within town. Some can be seen in wooden boxes being steamed by the side of the street. There are even monkey-shaped manju souvenirs!

Local Food Apples Delicious apples can be picked around the Kita Shiga area. Due to the extreme changes in temperature between day and night, with added minerals from the melted snow in spring, these apples are extra sweet and juicy. Cherries, blueberries and grapes are also abundant in Kita Shiga.
Kids Park
Great value for money at only 800 yen for the day, children can enjoy supervised sledding, tubing and snow bikes with free travellators back to the top.
