Everything Happens at The Radisson
What is now known as The Radisson Hotel McAllen Airport, was first opened in 1977 as the McAllen Airport Hilton. For those of us that have been in McAllen since the 1980s, many of us will have fond memories of this great hotel. Some of us remember the amazing Sunday Brunches held in the “Rose Room’’ Restaurant. How about the holiday buffets? Remember those? Or do you remember coming out to “La Biblioteca Lounge’’ and dancing the night away to the amazing sounds of Agnes and Arturo and The New Variety Band? Then there were the B-104 beach parties out back by the pool.

Sand was brought in from SPI, and there were volleyball tournaments and live broadcasts with Leah Bravo. So many great times were enjoyed by many here during those times. So many celebrities stayed here such as Vicky Carr, Julio Iglesias, Menudo, Luis Miguel, Daniela Romo, Olga Brinski, Los Piratas del Caribe, and Sasha Montenegro, to name a few. The hotel was later sold and became a Sheraton Four Points, and eventually became the McAllen Gran Plaza.
