ประธานโรตารสากล ป 2558-59 Many years ago, in Kolkata, India, I had the chance to meet Mother Teresa. She was an incredible woman with an incredible force of personality. When she walked down the street, the crowd parted in front of her like the Red Sea. Yet when you talked to her, if you mentioned the tremendous things she had done, she almost did not engage in this topic at all. By many reports, if you asked her what her greatest achievement was, she would answer, “I am an expert in cleaning toilets.”

Dear Fellow Rotarians, From the beginning of the Rotary Year 1 July 2015 you have joined hands in doing Rotary activity not just to send a gift to the recipient, but you have transformed yourself to be a producer of valuable and useful gifts of different kinds and sent to thousands of recipients through service projects for the disadvantaged and underprivileged in the communities. All these can be seen from committee reports at the District Conference which were so numerous that I cannot list the details here. I am sure these are not all, as there are many more projects which will be completed in the remaining three months of the year. I thank all the district committees and every Rotarian who have offered Service Above Self according to the ideal of Rotary. The District Conference for 2015-16 held 11 to 13 March 2016 was entertaining, impressive, creating more good and happy memories than can be recorded in the year of ‘Be a Gift to the World’. I offer special thanks to Chairman of the Organizing Committee PP.Pornchai Srichaiyongphanich who has devoted his energy in the organization of this event. I also thank his committee members who worked tirelessly to make the District Conference a success and impressed the participants. I thank IPDG Shoichi Fujii from D. 2820 who honored me by being RI President’s Representative at this conference. This contributed to making the friendship between our two districts more firm. This District Conference was also a historic event for D.3350 in having the highest number of foreign guests numbering 81 visiting Rotarians from D. 2820 and D. 2550 in Japan, and D.3590 from Korea. In Thailand, the District Governors and Rotary Anns from the other three districts have also honored me by joining this event. I thank Past RI President Bhichai Rattakul who honored us by attending the meeting and gave a speech on “Thai Japan Rotary Relations”. I thank all Past District Governors and their Rotary Anns who have attended this meeting and offered advice and encouragement. April is the month of Mother and Child Health in Rotary and many clubs have given importance by doing Global Grants projects on this topic. I ask that Rotary clubs will emphasize activities along the lines of Rotary to build a basis of good health for mother and child for their development in different areas of life. In ending I ask that clubs urgently send in their projects to the Chairman of the District Award Committee for consideration of Royal Trophy and District special awards and trophies and for presenting the activities for the RI Presidential Citation and for the District Governor’s salutes on 25 June 2016 to ‘Be a Gift to the World’.

April, the hottest month in Thailand , and enter the last three months of the year "Be a gift to the world". One of my mission that I would like to remind to the club president and secretary to proceed If your club is not yet implemented. Delivering the Rotary fee of period January 2016, please expedite urgent.

Public companies listed in the Stock Exchange are required to operate based on good governance and incorporate Corporate Social Responsibility, or commonly known as CSR. The concept is well-known and practiced in large organizations. Apart from conducting business in such a way that does not result in negative effects to the society, CSR activities also include humanitarian activities and projects for the society.

And in recent months, which is due to report your activities in My Rotary, in order to receive the Presidential Citation from the President of Rotary International, as it has already ended. Congratulations to the club that has been received the Citation. But even if your club might not have been achieved as such. With your intention and activities of all the clubs in the community are in the District Governor Chaivai’s eye and he still looks forward to see your service above self. He has provided the Governor Salute for the club that function in the Rotary way. I would encourage all clubs. Finally, I have to request one matter. Typically, when the late Rotary club is one thing that many clubs will not continue to submit the club attendance to the district so I am highly disturbing to all the clubs, please assign administrator and submitted a club attendance continued until the end of the Rotary year to ensure the integrity of the data collected in the district.. Thank you.

A number of public companies have a specific department in their organization that whose sole responsibility is CSR, but a lot of them do not. So if we invite public companies with no CSR unit to join us in humanitarian activities or become our project partner, the two parties will both benefit. What the Rotary’s 4 Way Test calls “beneficial to all concerned” is what the private sector calls “WinWin Solution”. For their part, the public companies do not have to invest in the setting up of this unit, and they also benefit from having the Rotary, a world-class organization who has philosophy, knowledge and expertise in conducting humanitarian projects. What the Rotary will receive is the funding for the projects and the opportunity to spread the word of the Rotary’s philosophy among the public companies. By involving Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the Polio eradication program is a great example of how the private sector can be involved in projects with Rotary International. Let all fellow Rotarians reach out to the private sector and get their involvement. Let executives in the public companies you know that we would like to help with their CSR program. Be a gift to the world.

April : Maternal & Child Health Month Back in the days when I started my own family and had children. The happiness occurred with anxiety. We all know that life is not easy but to take care of a little child’s life to grow up amid social and environment that changes every day is much more difficult especially without preparation and readiness. The readiness is multifaceted but the most important for me is the availability of knowledge and right understanding. It is essential to be careful of the wording “someone said that..…” because many times we found that it became “he told wrong” which makes us misunderstand and those mistakes may cause mischief beyond cure in particular the maternal and child health from birth to childhood that may affect a person for lifetime. The effort to enhance the right understanding for the health of mother and child is an investment to get maximum benefits because when mother is perfectly healthy, the fetus will receive appropriately. With the health care of children from birth to preschool correctly and consistently, children who will grow up in future will become certainly human resources and an asset to society. In other words, it is the short-term investment worth while at the best benefits for life. Promoting the maternal and child health has been also involved with people and environment. It needs support and cooperation from many parties. I would like to thank everyone, organizations and fellow Rotarians to attach importance and devote to hold activities for mother and child consistently and ensure that there will be more joint supporters who will see the benefits of short-term investment but long-term returns to have happiness in producing the qualified personnel and delivering them to social more and more. My Fellow Rotarians, Under Membership development, most of your clubs have done well in recruitment, as our district has increased 366 Rotarians from 1st July 2015 till 11th March 2016, which is about 13.57% against RI goals of 10%. However, our net increase is only 134, which is only 5% from 1st July 2015 to 11th March 2016. This is because of the poor retention rate, whereby our district have lost 230 Rotarians. As I have explained, membership growth & development will consist of the following: 1. New Members Recruitment 2. Existing Members Retention 3. Club Strengthening 4. New Clubs Development I will like to congratulate the following clubs, who have done well in both recruitment and retention, as well as club strengthening. 1. RC Bangkok Nawamin 2. RC Singburi 3. RC Singburi Veerachon 4. RC Watsing 5. RC Dhonburi And many others, which I am unable to mention all. With the changing world and technology, Rotary is also changing and we will need to concentrate on Customer Experience, instead of Customer Satisfaction. This is because with good Customer Experience, we will be able to develop loyal advocates for Rotary. Let us go back to the basics to work on and concentrate on our Club Service and develop a strong fellowship among Rotarians and urge them to “Engage Rotary, Change Lives”. We have another 3 months to go before ending the current Rotary year. We will have to concentrate more on Club Strengthening, as well as New Clubs Development when opportunity arises, so that the Membership Growth and Development for this year will be complete. Our target for the coming 3 months will be chartering 5 New Clubs with at least 25 charter members each. With this we will be increased another 125 members for our district and hopefully we can achieve our target of 3,000 Rotarians for D3350 RI by the end of 30th June 2016, in order to “Light Up Rotary” and “Be a Gift to the World”, as “Rotary Serving Humanity”. Taking Care of Their Children

Fellow Rotarians, There is an idiom in Thai, saying “àÍÒÅÙ¡à¢ÒÁÒàÅÕé§ àÍÒàÁÕè§à¢ÒÁÒÍÁ”. If we were to translate this, it would be "Bringing up another man's child is like keeping another man's savoury in your mouth". It may sound strange, but let us see how this idiom has to do with our Youth Exchange program, and what Youth Exchange Committee has to do. We are one of the committees that work across the Rotary years. Before your children travel for an exchange in another country, we have already worked a year in advance, starting from the registration process. If your children apply this Rotary year, your children will have the exchange period in the next Rotary year. The applying period is the whole month of July, and during this same time, exchange students who applied the previous Rotary year are preparing for their departure. There will be an orientation for exchange students who will depart in which call these students “outbounds”. Moreover, we also help host families to get ready, including providing necessary information to Rotary clubs and local schools that will be looking after exchange students travelingin. There will be a seminar called Triangle Seminar. In August, it is the period of examinations and interviews for the next group applied while students applied the previous year will be leaving. Before leaving, there will be an orientation once again called “Pre-departure” to review the duties and responsibilities of exchange students as well as rules and regulations. These rules and regulations are very strict and can be sent back home once they are broken. When the exchange begins, your child leaves but you will get a child in return. During this time, Suvarnabhumi Airport will be very chaotic, because a lot of Rotarians are going to the airport to warmly welcome the incoming YE students – including other Rotary Districts too. If there are flights coming from the US, there will be a lot of banners with photos of the YE students. We call YE students traveling in from overseas “Inbounds”. Once Inbounds arrive, exchange students from Thailand that went for an exchange the previous year also return home. Some may return since June and July. We call the returned students “Rebounds”. In the beginning of September, Inbound students will be attending the orientation to be provided with basic information to get ready to live in Thailand, rules and regulations as well as basic knowledge about Thai culture. There will also be a seminar for Rebounds to exchange experiences about their exchange year that will be beneficial to future exchange students.

In October, we organized Thai lessons for Inbounds and took them to participate in RYLA. Inbounds had great fun and made lots of Thai friends, and Thai students had a chance to practice English as well. Thank you to AG Patsri Suwimol, RYLA Organizing Chair for providing the opportunity for Inbound students to attend RYLA activities. At the same time, YE Committee begins to find places for your children. Inbound students and host parents must attend Host Rotary clubs’ meetings every month to report updates and school results, and meet counsellors. YE Committee members will share their tasks by individually looking after each Inbound student, visit their homes and talk to the students. The visit will mostly be made towards the end of the (calendar) year, because the YE will miss their home countries as it is near Christmas. In the new (calendar) year, YE students attended Thai Rotary Day event at the end of January. We have prepared the performance for the event, the study and rehearsal took place for 3 weeks. The outcome was impressive. Thank you to PP Rungkhachee Nitteranont, performance preparation person. In February, YE organized English Camp in Angthong Province for local Angthong kids to help improve their English skill, and YE students acted as group leaders. After that District Youth Service Chair, PP Salakjit Nopakun, and I attended NAYEN2016 (North America Youth Exchange Network) in Cincinnati, USA. This meeting was both a classroom and an exchange forum for YE Committee around the world. There were 472 attendees. The meeting was also the place to find placement for future exchange years, which this year we have more new placement from America. Around this time, we also prepared performance for District Conference, which Thai YE that will depart next Rotary year also attended. In March after DC, there will be bus trip to the South in the tourist area. We will be going up North during Songkran Festival. In May, Outbound students start to prepare to return home while the next group of Outbound students prepare to depart for an exchange. Outbound students will receive an orientation from YE Committee and Rotex (former YE). At the end of May and the beginning of June, there will be a farewell party for Inbound students. Apart from all these tasks and solving problems of both Inbounds and Outbounds, there are other tasks as well such as Short Term Exchange that we do with many countries like Japan, German, Italy and France; and now we have new program called New Generation Short term Exchange (NGSE). It is an exchange program for youth aged 18-26 who want to have an internship in the overseas. All tasks have been successfully achieved by the commitment and sacrifices of personal time and money of all YE Committee members, and I must take this opportunity to thank them. The working process of YE Committee is clear and certified by RI. We still need a lot of help and support from all of you for the future of the nation, of District 3350 and Thai Youths. Let us help them to improve their potentials and grow to be the future of the nation. (¹Â.ÀÒ³Ø ÂÈàÁ¸Ò ¼ÙŒá»Å)

by PP. Sirichai Simaskul: District International Service Chair. Fellow Rotarians, I hope all of you may recall the visiting of DG. Kim Gap Jong and his team from District 3590, South Korea, who came to sign Sister District Agreement during early July last year. This signing ceremony also accompanied by IPDG. Dr. Jin Jong Bu, the person who is behind this signing Agreement. And during March 11-13, 2016 DG. Kim with his District Leaders also came to participate at our District Conference at Cha-am, Petchburi. These have shown that DG. Kim has the strong intention to be Sister District, but the most important things are the participation of mutual Humanitarian Projects—the Global Grants in Thailand. District 3590 have set aside the DDF Fund of US$200,000.00 for our District. And if this amount of DDF is being matched by TRF, it will be jumped up double, which will be more than Bht. 15 millions for all the projects. To show our appreciation to DG. Kim, DG. Chaivai Poonlapmongkol has led a team of District Leaders to visit District 3590 at Jinju, Korea during March 23-28, 2016. Our District Team was warmly welcomed by DG. Kim Gap Jong and his District Leaders starting from the Busan Airport, all banquets including Presidential Bagquet by invitation. DG. Kim has sent a few Rotarians, who was Past President to take care all of us starting from the Airport until we left Korea. He also sent a Senior Student who can speak English fluently to be our translator. At this mission, DGE. Jason Lim and his Rotary Ann Merry including DGND. Nakarin Ratanakitsunthorn also joined the trip. This is to confirm that the relationship of our both District will still be continued. What DG. Chaivai mentioned is that this year he is not worried about the fund to apply for the Global Grant Projects, but what he worried is the Global Grant Projects to be proposed to District 3590. A tremendous credit must be given to PP. Jay Chung and his Rotary Ann Darin Pongpawat, of Rotary Club of Pranakorn, who have helped to make all these good things happened. A great applause to PP. Jay and Khun Darin.

Dear Fellow Rotarians, First of all, I would like to congratulate to every Club that pass the requirements for Presidential Citation Award. The deadline to submit the record for the Citation through Rotary Club Central has just ended on April 1. Since this is the ďŹ rst year that all clubs have to ďŹ ll up the targets and achievements by themselves, not just send reports to District Secretary like in the past, many clubs still do not understand the process. And many Rotarians have diďŹƒculties to sign into My Rotary, sometime they can sign in but some other time they can’t. Our District has set up My Rotary committee to provide training and consulting to those who are interested. I wish the successful clubs in this year will help providing knowledge to other clubs so that our D.3350 will receive more Citation Awards in the future. Anyhow, we’ve just gotten the latest great news from R.I. President about the Citation adjustments to honor the efforts of many more Clubs that have worked so hard toward their Rotary goals. The Citation will be modiďŹ ed and issued in three levels: Gold (Achieved 7 goals), Silver (Achieved 6 goals), and Bronze (Achieved 5 goals). And even if some Clubs do not achieve the Citation but they still actively Service Above Self, attend the Rotary Meeting regularly, and continuously work on humanitarian projects, their efforts will be taken into consideration and rewarded by District Governor to honor and to encourage their good deeds. In the last issue, I didn’t put any photos of District Conference during March because there was not enough space. Therefore, I put in 4 pages of beautiful photos in this issue for those who have attended the event enjoy the memorable moments and to share the impressive event for those who have missed. In April, there are 5 consecutive holidays during Songkran festival, Thai New Year celebration. For this year, we are encountered with inadequate water crisis, so I hope that we will enjoy the festival with proper use of water. For those who will spend their vacation elsewhere, please take care and have a safe trip. Happy Songkran Festival! Yours in Rotary. Trong Sangswangwatana RC. of Bangkok Suwanabhum
