Canadian friends had a baby in January and the idea of giving them a thick, extra-warm blanket appealed to me. I also added a bit of a ruffled edge for fun. The pattern is simple and easy, two stitches alternated to form a thick basketweave, with a decorative fan border around the whole. The finished result is very thick but still light, is a nice size for parents with a baby in a stroller/car seat/carrier, and (big plus!) is machine washable. Details: Technique: crochet Size: ~36" square Hook: 4.5mm crochet Yarn: Patons Beehive Baby Sport (5 ply Nylon, Acrylic), light blue; ~3.5 skeins (~1250 yds) Optional: ! ribbon for border, wash and dry satin
