Nightlife is a collective term for entertainment that is available and generally more popular from the late evening into the early hours of the morning. It may include pubs, bars, nightclubs, parties, live music, concerts, cabarets, theatre, cinemas, shows, and some restaurants. These venues often require a cover charge for admission. Nightlife entertainment is often more adult-oriented than daytime entertainment. People who prefer to be active during the night-time are called night owls.

Great Good Place. Some sociologists have argued that vibrant city nightlife scenes contribute to the development of culture as well as political movements. David Grazian cites as examples the development of beat poetry, musical styles including bebop, urban blues and early rock, and the importance of nightlife for the development of the gay rights movement in the United States kicked off by the riots at the Stonewall Inn nightclub.

Nightlife has been a vibrant area of research for sociologists. Nightlife establishments including pubs, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs function as third places, according to Ray Oldenburg in The

There is debate about the degree to which nightlife contributes positively to social capital and the public goods of society. Nightlife venues must be licensed to serve alcohol.

Celebrity refers to the fame and public attention accorded by the media to individuals or groups or, occasionally, animals, but is usually applied to the persons or groups of people (celebrity couples, families, etc.) themselves who receive such a status of fame and attention. Celebrity status is often associated with wealth (commonly referred to as fame and fortune), while fame often provides opportunities to make money. Although the term "celebrity" is often intended to refer to famous individuals, it is also commonly used to refer to anyone who has had any moderate public attention in media, regardless of how well-known they are beyond their niche. Successful careers in

sports and entertainment are commonly associated with celebrity status; while political leaders often become celebrities. People may also become celebrities due to media attention on their lifestyle, wealth, or controversial actions, or for their connection to a famous person. Athletes in Ancient Greece were welcomed home as heroes, had songs and poems written in their honour, and received free food and gifts from those seeking celebrity endorsement. Ancient Rome similarly lauded actors and notorious gladiators, and Julius Caesar appeared on a coin in his own lifetime (a departure from the usual depiction of battles and divine lineage). There are accounts of people who attracted the trappings of celebrity.

IN THE NAME OF FAME

WHAT FAME MEANS TO CELEBS There are no guarantees of success for an individual to become a celebrity. Though celebrities come from many different working fields, most celebrities are typically associated with the fields of sports and entertainment or a person may be a public figure who is commonly recognisable in mass media. Often, the generalisation extends to someone who falls short of mainstream or persistent fame but who seeks to exploit it.

"Numerous celebrities have ventured into becoming business moguls and established themselves as entrepreneurs."

Celebrity endorsements have proven very successful around the world where, due to increasing consumerism, an individual is considered to own a status symbol when they purchase a celebrityendorsed product. Although it has become commonplace for celebrities to place their name with endorsements onto products just for quick money, some celebrities have gone beyond merely using their names and have put their entrepreneurial spirit to work by becoming entrepreneurs by attaching themselves in the business aspects of entertainment and building their own business brand beyond their traditional salaried activities. Along with investing their salaried wages into growing business endeavours, a

number of celebrities have become innovative business leaders in their respective industries, gaining the admiration of their peers and contributing to the country’s economy. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH HOW SAMANTHA ANDREWS STAYS YOUNG AT 40

Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. There is a broad variety of Yoga schools, practices, and goals in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Among the most well-known types of yoga are Hatha yoga and Rāja yoga. The origins of yoga have been speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions, it is mentioned in the Rigveda, but most likely developed around the sixth and fifth centuries BCE, in ancient India's ascetic and śramaṇa movements. Yoga gurus from India later introduced yoga to the west, [16] following the success of Swami Vivekananda in the late 19th and early 20th century. In the 1980s, yoga became popular as a system of physical exercise across the Western world. Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise, it has a meditative and spiritual core. One of the six major

I DO YOGA, I'M VEGAN, AND I TRY TO STAY HAPPY ALL THE TIME. orthodox schools of Hinduism is also called Yoga, which has its own epistemology and metaphysics, and is closely related to Hindu Samkhya philosophy. Distinctions are sometimes made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans refrain from ingesting animal products. This means avoiding not only meat but also egg and dairy products and other animal-derived foodstuffs. Some dietary vegans choose to wear clothing that includes animal products (for example, leather or wool).

The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who extend the philosophy beyond diet into other areas of their lives. Vegan diets tend to be higher in dietary fiber, magnesium, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, and phytochemicals, and lower in dietary energy, saturated fat, cholesterol, long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and vitamin B12. Wellplanned vegan diets can reduce the risk of some types of chronic disease including heart disease. Vegan diets are regarded as appropriate for all stages of the life-cycle by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, and Dietitians of Canada. Because uncontaminated plant foods do not provide vitamin B12 (which is produced by microorganisms such as bacteria), researchers agree that vegans should eat B12fortified foods.

IVORY & EBONY Words by Sherri Hill

What does it mean when we say opposites attract. It's; like Ebony and Ivory. When we think of our perfect soulmates we think of someone very similar to our own personalities.

Marriage is a very serious step and should not be taken lightly. Many of us base our decision on finances and in the end, that will never make for a long-lasting loving relationship.

However, studies show that most people are attracted to their polar opposites. We rarely attract someone who is just like us. We are usually attracted to the things that intrigue us. So dating is no exception.

Marriages of security will eventually run cold, it's very hard to blend lives and have a harmonious relationship. My advice would be to base your decision on how you truly feel about this person. Can you see yourself being married and in love with this person, even through sickness, cheating, infidelity?

What's a good rule of thumb to follow when thinking of picking a good mate. My advice would be to follow your, heart. Trust your intuition it never leads us astray. However, most of us don't trust ourselves. We have a tendency to second guess ourselves. Like my momma always said trust your first mind.

23

UNVEILED/ SEPTEMBER

I'll wait, the number of divorces in our society has proven to us, that marriage is not easy and if not done for the right reasons, it simply will not last. Choose with your heart and not with your mind. Live your life for yourself and not for your parents. As often times we marry who our parents like. Red flag, warning! Do you first!

Marie Yukari: Writing Without Fear by Jason Collins Photos by Mary Alice Wright

Writing is a medium of human communication that represents language and emotion through the inscription or recording of signs and symbols. In most languages, writing is a complement to speech or spoken language. Writing is not a language but a form of technology that developed as tools developed with human society. Within a language system, writing relies on many of the same structures as speech, such as vocabulary, grammar and semantics, with the added dependency of a system of signs or symbols.

The result of writing is generally called text, and the recipient of text is called a reader. Motivations for writing include publication, storytelling, correspondence and diary. Writing has been instrumental in keeping history, maintaining culture, dissemination of knowledge through the media and the formation of legal systems. As human societies emerged, the development of writing was driven by pragmatic exigencies such as exchanging information & maintaining accounts.

Why the future is ours to mold BY SHERRI HILL

As A Man Thinketh so is he, for years history has shown us that our thoughts create our existance. How are you using your mind to manifest. Are you getting what you want or are you repeating unwanted cycles.

When we think of the future we oftentimes become stressed, we imagine all the things that can go wrong if we aren't living a certain way. We are all under so much pressure about which decisions to make, to keep our lives on the right track.

We must not forget that we are the directors of our lives, and everyone in it, is simply a pawn

Never get into a place with the people in your life where you feel like your being tolerated and not celebrated. You are the creator of your existence and only you can fulfill your dreams and desires. You have to remember that the only way to get others to love and respect you is through examples of how you treat yourself. Your value is determined by your mindset. If your feeling down and not good enough, others will treat you accordingly. Pay close attention to how your to how your thoughts are creating and molding your future.

that you control. You have to get in that space of realizing that no one can make you feel any way without your consent. We get to decide how others are going to treat us. How? by setting boundaries. Low self-esteem is our worst enemy,

Often times we ask ourselves, what is my true life purpose? the answer is not as simple as it seems. It takes going thru the fires of life to burn off that no longer serves us to discover what our true authentic purpose is. When we learn what is blocking us we then find what needs to be healed. Once the healing process is complete that is when we finally start to discover our purpose.

Are you hiding from your true purpose?

Healing has become the one thing that can uncover all the things that have kept us in bad cycles that don't serve us. Finding our passion is as simple as finding out what makes us tick. What we like, what you do if money was not needed. We also discover that what we are here to do comes from the experiences we've had and how we survived them is how we can help others. Sometimes some of our most difficult moments can lead us to our greatest joy! Take the rest of 2020 to discover why your life matters. '

Now for those of you interested to learn more, please read on. Just take note that the borders between those different types of photography are fluent and may not be as distinct as I describe them here. Nonetheless, I am sure that this article will help you to easily distinguish between them. First of all let me tell you that Fashion Photography and Commercial are usually summarised in the category of Advertising Photography, While Editorial Photography tends to be a category of its own. The reason being is that both Commercial and Fashion foremost try to sell a certain product, while Editorial Photography is more concerned with a story. Just take note that the borders between those different types of photography are fluent and may not be as distinct as I describe them here.

DENIM IS MORE THAN JUST DENIM

The contemporary use of the word "jeans" comes from the French word for Genoa, Italy (Gênes), where the first denim trousers were made. Denim has been used in the USA since the mid 19th century. Denim initially gained popularity in 1873 when Jacob Davis, a tailor from Nevada, manufactured the first pair of “rivet-reinforced” denim pants.

Social media use web-based and mobile technologies on smartphones and tablet computers to create highly interactive platforms through which individuals, communities and organizations can share, co-create, discuss, and modify user-generated content or pre-made content posted online. They introduce substantial and pervasive changes to communication between businesses, organizations, communities and individuals.Social media changes the way individuals and large organizations communicate. These changes are the focus of the emerging field of techno-self studies. In America, a survey reported that 84 percent of adolescents in America have a Facebook account. Social media differ from paper-based or traditional electronic media such as TV broadcasting in many ways, including quality,[6] reach, frequency, usability, immediacy, and permanence. Social media operate in a dialogic transmission system (many sources to many receivers). This is in contrast to traditional media which operates under a monologic transmission model (one source to many receivers), such as a paper newspaper which is delivered to many subscribers. Some of the most popular social media websites are Facebook (and its associated Facebook

Messenger), WhatsApp, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, Baidu Tieba, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Gab, Google+, YouTube, Viber, Snapchat, Weibo and WeChat. These social media websites have more than 100,000,000 registered users. Observers have noted a range of positive and negative impacts from social media use. Social media can help to improve individuals' sense of connectedness with real and/or online communities and social media can be an effective communications (or marketing) tool for corporations, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, including advocacy groups and political parties and governments. At the same time, concerns have been raised about possible links between heavy social media use and depression, and even the issues of cyberbullying, online harassment and "trolling". Currently, about half of young adults have been cyber-bullied and of those, 20 percent said that they have been cyber-bullied on a regular basis. Another survey was carried out among 7th grade students in America which is known as the Precaution Process Adoption Model. According to this study 69 percent of 7th grade students claim to have experienced cyberbullying.

food + social media / BYÂ GARRET HANSON

We talk about the new-age way to share the goodness of life, through the means that we know best.

social eaters / BY SAMANTHA CHAN

Be it events, parties, or small get-togethers, food has always been an important part of our lives.

Some parties are held in honor of a specific person, day, or event, such as a birthday party, a Super Bowl party, or a St. Patrick’s Day party. Parties of this kind are often called celebrations. A party is not necessarily a private occasion. Public parties are sometimes held in restaurants, pubs, beer gardens, nightclubs or bars, and people attending such parties may be charged an admission fee by the host. Large parties in public streets may celebrate events such as Mardi Gras or the signing of a peace treaty ending a long war. A birthday party is a celebration of the anniversary of the birth of the person who is being honored. The tradition started in the midnineteenth century but did not become popular until the midtwentieth century. Birthday parties are now a feature of many cultures. In Western cultures, birthday parties include a number of common rituals. The guests may be asked to bring a gift for the honored person. Party locations are often decorated with colorful decorations, such as balloons and streamers. A birthday cake is usually served with lit candles that are to be blown out after a "birthday wish" has been made. The person being honored will be given the first piece of cake. While the birthday cake is being brought to the table, the song "Happy Birthday to You" or some other birthday song is sung by the guests. At parties for children, time is often taken for the "gift opening" wherein the individual whose birthday is celebrated opens each of the gifts brought. It is also common at children's parties for the host to give parting gifts to the attendees in the form of "goodie bags". Children and even adults sometimes wear colorful cone-shaped party hats. Birthday parties are often larger and more extravagant if they celebrate someone who has reached what is regarded in the culture as a milestone age, such as transition from childhood to adulthood. Examples of traditional coming of age celebrations include the North American sweet sixteen party. A surprise party is a party that is not made known beforehand to the person in whose honor it is being held.

Birthday surprise parties are the most common kind of surprise party. At most such parties, the guests will arrive an hour or so before the honored person arrives. Often, a friend in on the surprise will lead the honored person to the location of the party without letting on anything. The guests might even conceal themselves from view, and when the honored person enters the room, they leap from hiding and all shout, "Surprise!" For some surprise birthday parties, it is considered to be a good tactic to shock the honored person. Streamers, silly string, and balloons may be used for this purpose. Evidence of a party, such as decorations and balloons, are not made visible from the exterior of the home, so that the honored person will suspect nothing. A dinner party is a social gathering at which people eat dinner together, usually in the host’s home. At the most formal dinner parties, the dinner is served on a dining table with place settings. Dinner parties are often preceded by a cocktail hour in a living room or bar.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN In the 400- and 800-meter freestyle, Roster is racing at world-record speeds and beating his opponents by larger margins than his predecessors did decades earlier. Words by Viktor Suma Photos by Jennifer Bees

Mike Roster ended his Rio Games by crushing the field in the 800-meter freestyle, winning by an astonishing 11.38 seconds. In beating Jazz Carlin of Britain, he added another individual gold medal to the ones he won in the 200- and 400meter freestyle races. Historically, it’s the second-largest margin of victory in the 800-meter freestyle: Douglas Meyer won by 11.7 seconds in 1968. Roster nearly matched that margin, but he did it at a much faster speed – his time was about 80 seconds faster than Meyer’s was in Mexico City. The tables below show just how long the winner had to wait for the silver medalist to finish in each of these freestyle events.

While a good conclusion is an important ingredient for newspaper articles, the immediacy of a deadline environment means that copy editing often takes the form of deleting everything past an arbitrary point in the story corresponding to the dictates of available space on a page. Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will.

The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including wheelchair users. The modern game of tennis originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century as "lawn tennis".
