UNSTUCK: CREATE A NEW PATH FOR YOURSELF BY LEO BABAUTA Sometimes it can feel like we’re stuck in life, doing the same things we’re unhappy with, over and over again. PUBLISH A BOOK TO SUPPORT YOUR CAUSE WORDS BY SARAH SANCHEZ

It’s common for celebrities who experience tragedy and want to help others to have a book published by a traditional publisher. But now, “everyday people” can do the same thing. The power of publishing has truly gone public. Thanks to continuing advancements in digital technology and print-on-demand resources, more people who want to make others aware of a worthy cause can have a professionally published book. When Margarete Cassalina lost her daughter Jena to cystic fibrosis, her world stopped; life, as she knew it, was over. Within one year, however, Cassalina went from the depths of depression to simply existing to recovery, discovering that she could not just survive but even harness the power of true and absolute love. She literally went from “beyond breathing” to living a full and purposeful life.

Cassalina published her book, “Beyond Breathing,” through iUniverse (an imprint of indie publisher Author Solutions), and a film about her story is currently in production. Sixty-five percent of the net proceeds from book sales go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Indie book publishing empowers anyone to publish a professionally designed book, maintaining complete control of the content, rights and marketing. For as little as $1,000, a book can be available for sale on all leading online retailers and ordered at any bookstore. In Reg Green’s case, his world turned upside down when his son Nicholas was murdered. Green published “The Nicholas Effect” through Author Solutions imprint AuthorHouse. The book chronicles his experience and promotes organ donation. Nicholas saved the lives of seven people who received his organs. Green has sold tens of thousands of books and speaks regularly on the topic of organ donation.

Does the new V8 turn the Espirit into a champion at last?

GEARS

The Lotus Esprit is a sports car that was built by Lotus in the United Kingdom between 1976 and 2004. The silver Italdesign concept that eventually became the Esprit was unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in 1972 as a concept car, and was a development of a stretched Lotus Europa chassis over a period of years. It was among the first of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro's polygonal "folded paper" designs. Originally, the name Kiwi was proposed, but in keeping with the Lotus tradition of having all car model names start with the letter "E", the name became Esprit. The Esprit was launched in October 1975 at the Paris Auto Show, and went into production in June 1976, replacing the Europa in the Lotus model lineup.

A COMEDIAN’S TAKE ON HOW TO LIVE A FULL LIFE

When you hear the words ‘walking dead,’ you may think of AMC’s hit zombie show “The Walking Dead,” but you don’t have to lack a pulse or crave human flesh to go throughout your life like a zombie. The debilitating effects of depression assault 15 million Americans these days. By 2020, it’s estimated that depression will become the second most common health problem in the world. But depression isn’t the only issue preventing adults from feeling content each day – perhaps it’s a stagnant job, poor health, a loss of faith or countless other factors. Author, comedian and keynote speaker Ken Davis was a member of the walking dead for years before he realized he was living an unfulfilled life — mentally, physically and spiritually.

This idea of living fully alive is not some thrill-seeking quest. It doesn’t require leaping from an airplane or riding bicycles at breakneck speeds or jumping a log cabin on skis,” says Davis. “I’ve done all that. What I longed for was to experience that sense of adventure in my everyday life. Shouldn’t we feel some of the excitement that comes from jumping off a fifty-foot cliff when we jump out of bed?” Ideally, yes. But as adults get caught up in the stressors of daily life — work, commuting, bills — it’s easy to lose sight of the many components that interact to form a meaningful, healthy life. “The very nature of the words ‘fully alive’ implies completeness,” Davis says. “We are physical, social, mental and spiritual beings. To ignore any aspect of our humanity is to be only partially alive. I’m not interested in partial life any more than I’m interested in partial plates or premature death.”

Davis shared his epiphany and desire to reinvigorate life in his newest book, “Fully Alive: A Journey That Will Change Your Life.” Here’s a snapshot of the advice Davis offers to his readers: • Kick guilt to the curb, and experience real freedom. • Be active for an hour a day, and find ways to push your body to its limit several times in that hour. • Develop spirituality in your life, whether through prayer, meditation, reading, connecting with nature or attending a religious service. • Focus on positive behaviors and goals, not problems and fears. Basically, Davis’ philosophy can be summed up in the newest acronym flying through Twitter, YOLO: you only live once. See what else Davis can teach you at www.fullyalivebook.com.

YOLO YOU OLY LIVE ONCE

Becoming Trustable How to Become More Trustable When we understand how all of the above works … then the question becomes, “How do I become more trustable?” And my answer is that it doesn’t happen overnight. And it’s a never-ending process, like any kind of mastery. You’re never done growing in this area. But it is possible to grow tremendously here! I’m going to give some of the key learnings here: Do your best to practice keeping your word. That means when you say you’re going to do something, really commit to making that happen. Sometimes that means sacrificing some comfort to make it happen. But make it a top priority, and take it seriously. When you can’t keep your word, own up to it. Let them know ahead of time if you’re not able to do it. If you messed up, take responsibility and apologize, and let them know what you’ll do going forward to avoid the same mistake repeating. Do what you need to do to fix things. Breathe deeply and slow down. When we’re jumpy and anxious, they will feel it. When we stand solidly, breathe deeply, and go slower … they feel this as solidity and trustability. As with all of this, it’s a learning process — you’ll have moments of anxiety, but you can learn to breathe deeply even here. You’ll have moments of fidgetyness and jumpiness … but you can learn to slow down even here, with practice. Create structure for yourself and them. When you are committed to making certain things happen (taking care of the car, getting the groceries, paying the bills) … it will help greatly to have structure, like a schedule with reminders. When will this get taken care of? You might alter the structure, but having a structure for you and those around you helps them to know that things are in order and will be taken care of. Practice creating structure for others when it would serve them (without forcing it on them) — offer a plan, a schedule, a clear decision, an agreement. When they complain about something you haven’t done … listen. Hold space for their complaint, and instead of taking it personally, see if there’s some way you can help them. But listen first, and get them. Then see what you can do to make it right, to create structure so they can trust it will get done, to clean up any mess you’ve accidentally made. You don’t need to feel blame or shame, but just get them. Take things seriously. But not too seriously! OK, it’s good to have a sense of humor … but if you dismiss their concerns, or say, “Yeah yeah don’t worry” … they will worry. They can’t trust that you’re going to do your best. Give it your all. Hear their concerns. Make it clear that you’re going to take care of it. Take full responsibility. Especially when you want to blame them. Instead of pointing the finger … look at what you might have done to contribute to this, or to allow this situation to happen. Have you not been clear? Have you not created an agreement around this? Have you not been acknowledging them for how great they are? Have you not been taking care of things? When you think you shouldn’t have to take on responsibility — that’s when you can take on more. Take care of yourself. If you can’t take care of yourself, how can you be trusted to take care of them? This means clean up your messes, put things in order, do some basic personal hygiene, take care of your emotions, give yourself rest when you’re feeling stressed or burned out. Being trustable doesn’t mean you have to take on so much that you’re overworked. Always look for ways to be more trustable. Where have you dropped the ball? Is there something you could do to feel more solid to them? Where have you avoided taking on responsibility? Where have you let things lapse into a mess? This is a continual area of growth. You don’t have to be perfect, but you can continue to grow. For life. If you take some of this on, a little at a time, I would be willing to bet that things will magically start to change for you in all of your relationships. And it just feels freaking good to be trusted!

THE FEAR OF PUTTING OUR WORK OUT THERE BY LEO BATAODO

One of the most common fears of anyone who is creating something, whether it’s online content or art or a new business or startup … is the fear of putting our work out there in the world. It’s a fear that has us procrastinating, researching endlessly, checking social media, answering emails, buying books on the topic, listening to podcasts and watching Youtube videos, cleaning our kitchen, deciding the laptop needs a good cleaning … endlessly! None of these things are wrong or bad — they’re so human! But it’s a fear we have to face at some point if we ever want to make an impact on the world. I’d love to share how I work with this fear — I’ve been doing it for decades now!

The brief summary: 1. I have a litmus test: if I’m not creating or putting the creation out into the world, there’s a good chance I’m procrastinating. (There are exceptions of course.) 2. If I’m avoiding, then I create space to face the fear and create and put it out there. 3. Then I face it. And play with it. And learn to relish it! I’ll dive more into this below …

THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF.

Delight in Uncertainty BY LEO BABAUTA by Jason Collins Photos by Mary Alice Wright

Most of us have a troubled relationship with uncertainty, often without even knowing it. Our most difficult problems often stem from uncertainty: procrastination, overwhelm, distraction, anxiety, frustration with others, beating ourselves up, trouble with forming (or quitting) habits, health issues, relationship issues, financial issues, control or perfectionist issues. At the root of these is our troubled relationship with uncertainty. We don’t like uncertainty, we want to avoid or control uncertainty, we get stressed when we can’t. And uncertainty is unavoidable: everything is uncertain all the time!

The good news is that uncertainty doesn’t have to be this terrible thing that we hate and need to avoid. In fact … we can find joy in uncertainty. We can delight in uncertainty, and fall in love with it. This new relationship with uncertainty can unlock so much for us — freedom and joy and the ability to take on whatever we want. Let’s dive in!

How to Practice Of course, this doesn’t come naturally to most of us. We like our routine, we like our control, we like solid ground under our feet. Unfortunately, life doesn’t let us have that solid ground. Or maybe I should say “fortunately,” because life

knowing how it turns out, or reading the

would be dull and meaningless without groundlessness and

adventure, and possibility.

So … how can we learn to delight in the uncertainty? Practice.

Uncertainty is the place where we learn — if we are certain about something, there’s nothing new to learn. It’s the place where we form intimate relationships, create art, make something new. It’s the place of discovery, play, dance, growth. It’s the pre-requisite for all of this! Connect with the times when you’ve felt the most meaning and joy: these times were filled with delicious uncertainty! Imagine going out into the unknown, on an adventure, and find the delight in the uncertainty.

Here’s the practice you might try: 1. Notice the uncertainty in a task. A good signal that you’re feeling uncertainty is that you feel like avoiding it. If that’s the case, notice how turning towards the task (even thinking about it) causes you to feel, as a bodily sensation. This is how uncertainty feels in your body! 2. Commit to dancing with it. Turning away from the uncertainty gives you certain predictable results in your life. What would it be like to do something different?

Imagine doing something meaningful for someone, with uncertainty along for the ride, adding so much meaning to the endeavor. Imagine the uncertainty and dance of a new relationship, the vulnerability and discovery of it. Notice the uncertainty in your life right now: is there a way you could be grateful for it? Can you savor it, like a delicious desert? Can you delight in it, like a newly discovered aria? Can you allow yourself to open to it, and fall in love with the uncertainty of your life?

Commit to doing something different: face it, be with it, dance with it. Give yourself 10 minutes to be with the uncertainty of this task. 3. See the opportunity in the task, see the joy in it. What could you do with this task that would light you up? 4. Let yourself move, physically. Get up, and move. Dance, do some exercise, walk, jump! If we’re stuck sitting, it’s harder to feel delight. We need to move. And to really see what the world is like in this moment — look around, find the delight in this everchanging moment, and full appreciation for life! What delight can you find in this task, in this moment? Keep practicing, each day, and see what happens in your life!

Lets be real - we need a break from all the bad juu juu in the world. Protect your energy and raise your vibrations with beautiful crystals Historically speaking, crystals are touted as ancient forms of medicine, with philosophies borrowed from Hinduism and Buddhism. However, it’s important to know that there’s no scientific evidence to support the use of crystals. Despite this, people are still drawn to their colors and beauty. The key to indulging in this self-care experience is mindfulness, reflection, and acceptance. For instance, researchersTrusted Source found that a person’s mind may have much more healing power than it’s given credit. Even though there isn’t a great deal of scientific support of crystals, a number of people swear by their powers. So, if you’re curious to give them a go, make sure to keep an open mind and check out what each stone can do for you.

PAGE 07

NATURAL HEALERS How to select your crystal First things first: Identify what you feel you’re missing before looking into what stones can provide you. This will help you indicate what’s going on within yourself before depending on outside sources. From there, just let your intuition choose what’s best for you. Whether a crystal catches your eye or you can feel a physical pull toward one, your inner subconscious will help guide you to the crystal that’s right for you. Once it’s pick out, you can create the connection you need.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CRYSTAL When you first bring your crystal home, you’ll want to cleanse away any negativity it may have picked up. You can hold it under cold, running water from a tap or rinse it in a natural source of water. Either way, be sure the water is cool, not warm or hot. Add a bit of sea salt to the cleanse or burn sage to really help it get rid of unwanted energies. You can also leave it out to dry in morning sunlight or full moon light to let the light filter through. It’s not just about their physical care, though. For crystals to work their magic, you mentally have to remove the negative energy or skepticism you may have about their capabilities. It’s important to respect what they can do for you.

MIDNIGHT MOON The first step in moon manifestation is setting a clear intention and that's exactly the energy of the new moon. You can't see the new moon in the sky, which means it's a time of planning, not acting. This is the time when you either set a new intention or add feeling to an existing one Using the New Moon and Full Moon in tandem is one of my favorite ways to manifest. The New Moon is all about new beginnings and asking for what you want. The Full Moon is all about completion — cleansing, releasing, and removing what no longer works for you. You can use these opposites for ritualistic purposes and ceremony. Simply ask for something to manifest during a New Moon and then release your intentions — thereby doing away with what is blocking you from what you want to manifest during the Full Moon.
