The National Forest & Beyond is the place to do all those things that you’ve always dreamt of. As Horace once said in his Latin poem: “carpe diem”, or rather, ‘seize the day’. Make your dreams come true. Stroll through beautiful countryside, take fantastic walks and visit award-winning attractions, set within the wooded backdrop of The National Forest. The dream of creating a new ‘forest for the nation’ is happening across 200 square miles of Leicestershire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. A massive 8 million trees have now been planted, trebling the woodland cover, creating habitats for wildlife and a beautiful landscape for people to enjoy. The ultimate goal is for woodland to cover around a third of the Forest area and to link the ancient forests of Charnwood and Needwood. You can help to create this ‘forest in the making’ through our plantatree scheme. You will be invited to a special tree planting day and receive a certificate. This makes a great gift! Whether you prefer a cosy family-run guesthouse, a campsite in a peaceful forest setting, a timber lodge nestling in its own woodland glade, a modern, environmentally-friendly YHA or a luxury hotel, the National Forest & Beyond has a wealth of choice in places to stay. Why not give ‘glamping’ a go in the heavenly canvas cottages at Dandelion Hideaway?

A walk to the top of Beacon Hill is rewarded with fantastic views from its craggy summit. Stroll through the park’s Native Tree Collection to Outwoods, where the display of bluebells in May is simply breath-taking.
See hundreds of graceful deer as they roam free through the bracken and ancient trees in Bradgate Park. Fish for sticklebacks or just paddle in the stream that meanders by the ruins of the home of Lady Jane Grey – the nine day queen. Enjoy a guided tour around the rare and spectacular plant treasures at Bluebell Arboretum. A specialist tree and shrub nursery is attached to the gardens. Walk through meadows bursting with summer wildflowers at the National Memorial Arboretum and Billa Barra near Markfield.
Keep your eyes peeled to spot ospreys, owls and otters, which have become regular visitors to Sence Valley Forest Park. This thriving wildlife haven is unrecognisable from its opencast past. shoot it. Our woodland craft experts Greenwood Days and Funky Monkey will show you how. Rosliston Forestry Centre has a whole host of activities for you to try including archery, climbing, indoor and outdoor play, crazy golf, laser clay and laser combat.
