words from the publisher

MARCH 18, 2017

Hello Folks,

Hope everyone is doing well. I usually start my emails/text messages/ letters off with this statement because I sincerely hope and pray the best for everyone. As a little girl, at night before going to sleep, I would say my prayers and asked God to help those who are suffering. It pained me to imagine the children and animals that are hurting and I asked God to help them. I still say those prayers and added to keep my family and I from harm. The world we live in today is much different than the one I grew up knowing. It can be harsh and uncaring; it can also be kind and loving. My prayer for today and the New Year is for everyone to be nicer and more patient with others and to show kindness and love The world will be a much nicer place if everyone did this. We wish everyone a very Happy New Year for 2017!

BMW Unveils Their Vision Next 100 Concept By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy “The vehicle will be so safe that you cannot fall over, and accidents will be a thing of the past”, said Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president at BMW Group Design. “We imagine all the downsides of riding a motorcycle to be gone.” And so, it goes without saying, BMW Motorrad has indeed made the leap into the digital age, and the future… is now. This motorcycle concept incorporates a self-balancing which keeps the bike upright that, by automatically adjusting banking angles, while a set of “smart glasses” scan for hazards ahead and alert the driver in advance. “BMW claims it will protect the rider from any accidents and liberate them from the need to wear a helmet.” To steer the bike, the rider moves the handlebars left to right instead of turning just the front wheel. This moves the entire frame, while the stabilization system ensures that it doesn’t topple over. It also has zero emissions. The bike was designed from an original 1932 BMW R32. It’s triangle frame was interpreted and redesigned with hidden bearings and joints to appear as a one-piece frame. The cover, wings and seat components are made of carbon fiber. The suspension is derived from the custom tires that adjusts to suit different ground conditions. Marking BMW’s 100th Anniversary, this motorcycle is the final concept released and it represents the company’s prediction for the future of motorcycle design.

Harley-Davidson & Indian Performance Add-On The Best Engine Cooler in the World By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

H

ot weather, black pavement and traffic lead up to one thing… overheating Harley-Davidsons. Ever been in standstill traffic on a hot day and your H-D just can’t take it? Ever been to Texas in July and 105 degree temps all day and try to ride? Ever been in a parade and your motorcycle just about quits on you from overheating? Well, I have on three counts and more and have often wondered what I could do to help this situation. I came across an invention that sounded too good to be true, but after receiving my unit and installing it on my custom 2004 Ultra Classic, I have joined the crowd and I’m endorsing this product. I truly believe the best cooling system I have found on the planet for all air-cooled Harley Davidson’s are the Love Jugs electric cooling fans. Love Jugs was the brain child of inventor and President of Hammerhead Engineering, LLC, Dave Sandel. He gathered his team of engineers and after sixteen prototypes, Love Jugs was born and the company has never looked back. The unit is a dual set of hefty electric fans that when activated, will help to cool down those big V-Twins. Steve West, the company’s CEO says, “Our products are the most powerful and effective fans available for Harleys.” And they are 100% waterproof. They’re rated at 252 CFM, which is said to be twice as much air as the nearest competitor. Having two fans allows them to be aimed directly at the individual cylinders and heads. The fan body is aircraft-quality stainless steel, polished to a high luster, and unlike painted or chromed metals, it can’t blister, chip, or rust. There’s also no welding used in the manufacturing process, which helps avoid metal fatigue in a high-vibration environment such as on a Harley engine.

the engine via the horn mounting bracket replacing the stock H-D vibration damper. “Read the instructions” first and depending on your skill level, you should be able to install it within well under an hour. Some models require temporarily removing the gas tank to install a very effective vibration control device that will eliminate 90%-plus of your horn mounts vibration. So, take that into consideration too. If you’re not sure about it, let your local Harley-Davidson dealer or independent motorcycle mechanic take care of it for you. When the fans are switched on, they build up speed gradually until a strong flow of air is sent across the engine. On the road, the fans cannot be heard but you will definitely feel the cooler comfort difference and see the performance difference as well. With an only mere 3.2 AMPs being pulled with both fans on, the engine and the oil stays cooler, the performance of the machine increases and the old heat you were getting off the engine, is gone.

surprise result was noticed by Nic Shultz of H-D of Madison (Wisconsin) on his customer’s police motorcycle. He saw first hand that Love Jugs not only cut down on the heat, but it also cut down on heat related engine repairs and extends the life of the engine. Love Jugs are available in bright metal or black finishes, in Bullet, Slot, and the new Cool-Master style. And oh, by the way, Love Jugs works great on Indians and they do ship overseas, too. For more information, contact the CEO Steve West at steve@love-jugs.com or 561-499-0974.

Several Law Enforcement departments in America have equipped their motorcycles with these units and have found unbelievable results against the heat. A

Hollywood Heads to the Isle of Man to Begin a New Motorcycle Racing Movie By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

R

umors abound about a new Hollywood production movie being filmed about the Isle of Man TT race. We have tried to get all the information, but most of it is shrouded in secrecy. Rumors that Matt Damon and Liam Neesom would be staring in it, two-time Isle of Man TT racer Cameron Donald would be Matt’s double and even that Honda would be providing bikes (including its new CBR1000RR Fireblade) and technical assistance on the movie. Well, rumors are hard to prove when everyone is keeping it close to the chest. What we know is that Ben Younger, a former professional rider himself, finished writing the ‘Isle of Man’ story back in 2008. Now that financing for the movie is complete, the story will unfold as an American motorcycle racer comes out of retirement to take on the TT one last time.

perished in both TT and Manx Grand Prix races since competition begin there in 1911. Only 141 were competitors during official practices or races, but that means at least one person has died every year that the race has been held. “I’m thrilled to be partnering with Bold Films on what is an absolute passion project,” said Younger in a statement. “The TT is the last, great, dangerous race on Earth and I am excited by the idea of bringing this new world to a general audience. Over 200 racers have lost their lives on this Island. I want to do their stories justice.” I watched the Isle of Man TT race and all I can say is, “Not I, said the short, fat, bald man.” I am one of those guys that knows his limitations. These racers, on this course…are looking for theirs. I’ll be in line when it hits the theatres. The next TT is in late May/ early June of 2017…extra racing footage will be filmed from the race.

Ben Younger

If you are not familiar with the TT, it is perhaps the fastest, most dangerous motorcycle race in the world… ever. Speeds are so fast through the towns and country sides that a lot of the time, the bikes leave the asphalt, spinouts are anywhere and deaths are a certain in most races. To date, 246 riders have Matt Damon & Liam Neeson

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inducts Eight New Members for 2016 By the Mag Man, Randy Gracy

T

o just be a part of such a great event is honor. To watch these eight, great people in the motorcycle industry be inducted into the 2016 AMA Hall of Fame is just amazing. This group was full of talent from several different forms of racing and industry importance. The 2016 class who received Hall appointments are Jeff Cole, race frame designer and builder, Miguel Duhamel, championship road racer, Charles Franklin, designer and creator of the Indian Scout, Chris Haines, racer, tuner and mechanic, Jack Johnson, desert racer, Ronnie Jones, professional dirt-track racer, Dennis Mahan, team manager for several Hall of Fame careers and Gloria Struck, pioneer for women riders. Hall of Famer Dick Burleson was recognized as an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend. Master of ceremonies Perry King and host Laurette Nicoll presented the compelling stories of the 2016 class to the audience, which included the inductees’ families, friends and fans. “Whether establishing new boundaries of speed and skill, tuning machines or managing teams to their maximum potential, charting unknown territory as captains of industry, or spearheading movements that have altered the course of motorcycling, each of these trailblazers has earned a place in history,” King said. “Their legacies are preserved in the Hall of Fame,

lighting the way for future generations to lay it all on the line and become the best that they can be.” The inductions followed the Hall of Fame Dinner and included videos extolling each honoree’s achievements, as well as the official presentation of their Hall of Fame rings. What a great time to attend such a prestigious event and I am so looking forward to next year’s event and once again, be a part of the induction of some outstanding people from the motorcycle world. The Freedom 100 Ride By Liz Cunningham

T

he inaugural run of the Freedom Ride 100 took place in Florida around the Ormand and Daytona Beaches. Organizer Randy Tipton and volunteer staff set up stops at several businesses for the ride; the Cabbage Patch, Beaver Bar, Iron Horse Saloon, and Bart’s. Roberta V helped nominate a local veteran, Dave Tamboia, that the ride supports during Christmastime. Over 75 bikes and over 100 riders including the V-Twins MC and supporters came out and helped raise over $3,000. Extra funds from the ride also went to a needy family to provide a Christmas for them and to purchase more bicycles for kids who don’t have one. A huge thank you to all the riders and sponsors who helped support those in need and gave their time to help others. Ride safe and look twice.

Pack Light Kathy Tolleson CEO ROAR Motorcycles, Inc.

A

nother thing you learn when riding is how to pack light. You can only fit so much in your saddlebags. From traveling overseas, I have learned to pack very light. Even then I make it a habit to pack and then take out a few things because I've learned I really can make do without those items. It makes traveling so much easier. That's one of the great things about riding It's so simple. You can't over pack. It's you, your bike and a few things in your bag. Sometimes our lives are too cumbersome. We carry baggage from the past, things we haven't forgiven and let go of. We are also busy loading up our lives with too much stuff and too much activity. Sometimes we have to examine our lives and simplify. I can over extend very easily, because there's a lot to be done in this world and I enjoy helping people and being productive. However, I have learned that every so often I have to re-evaluate and cut some things loose. Even as business people, finding a niche and staying in it is usually so much more effective than trying to be everything to everybody. It simplifies your business

model, your marketing message and your focus. One of the ways I like to de-clutter my mind is to make a list. I can feel very overwhelmed but put it down in a list and suddenly it seems manageable. Pack Light. Another key to packing light in life is to really know your priorities. Another key to packing light in life is to really know your priorities. What are you packing simply out of guilt, habit, false responsibility, or trying to make other people happy? As a family we decided to de-stress holidays. We discussed what was really important and kept those traditions, started some new ones, got rid of some others and now everyone is happier. Simplify your activities, your surroundings, your priorities and pack light. I guarantee you'll have a lot more fun. We are ready to start a new year. Unpack a little in life; the ride is so much better! Excerpts from Hear My Roar; Women, Motorcycles and Mental Health by Kathy Tolleson. Available on Amazon.

he Forgotten Child Fund is a nonprofit charity that was created by some Chattanooga (TN) Fire and Police Officers who witnessed first-hand children who had nothing for Christmas. They set out to make sure there were no children in the Chattanooga area that were going without a Christmas. The 2016 Forgotten Child Fund Toy Ride began and ended at Thunder Creek Harley Davidson with a 65-mile ride route. Lots of toys and funds were raised with the help of this years event.

Motorcycle USA Closes Its Digital Publication Via MotorcycleUSA.com

E

ffective today, Motorcycle USA, with offices in Medford, Oregon and Irvine, California is beginning the process of winding down operations for the digital publication. Digital publishing has faced growing obstacles in recent years as paid vs nonpaid sites are continuing to find the right balance of content production and monetization. As a result, MAG Media Group has been exploring numerous options for the business over the last year which culminated in this decision to wind down. The Motorcycle USA website will remain active for an extended period of time in order to continue to serve readers the well-written and highly informative articles, as well as the quality videos and photography that has accumulated over the years. Started in 1996, Motorcycle USA became a prevalent and sought after source for all things related to motorcycles. The founder, Don Becklin, saw a need and fulfilled it in a meaningful way.

Sound Advice from Your Attorney "I don't need an attorney for my accident..."

U

nfortunately, many of us have been in an accident and likely dealt with an insurance company or two, but did insurance really make you whole? Would the outcome have been different if you hired an attorney? Could an attorney secure a better recovery? When there is only property damage Marcos Garza with no injuries, you can normally handle this with the guidance of your insurance agent. Insurance companies keep records of the current values of cars, motorcycles, boats, etc. (similar to Kelly Blue Book) and they know what the present value of your ride is. You may have paid more for your bike, but like many other items, the value depreciates over time and oftentimes the insurance company is only going to pay you what the current value is. An attorney may be able to negotiate a higher return for your ride, but you have to remember the attorney is going to get a cut of the recovered value or charge you an hourly rate. If you feel the insurance company is offering you too little, it is always the best practice to reach out to your local motorcycle attorney and see if anything can be done to get more. When negotiating your property damage settlement don't forget to include items such as your helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. Your personal effects that were also damaged in the wreck, if any, are all a part of your property damage claim. When you are hurt in addition to your bike being damaged, it is always best to work with your local motorcycle lawyer. Attorneys are well-suited to negotiate with insurance companies, who in general, do not have an incentive to settle your case for much over your medical bills, if not less than your medical expenses. In addition, they have the knowledge and experience to go up against the insurance company which is something the average person does not have. The agent will act like your friend but they are not. An experienced attorney understands the ins and outs of the insurance industry and normally can negotiate a higher settlement from an insurance company. Generally, the greater the injuries the greater your settlement is. If an attorney is unable to negotiate a higher settlement, the attorney has the option to file a lawsuit against the person who caused the accident. An attorney will also be able to advise you about issue of comparative fault (whether you are partially at fault for the accident) or to determine who was at fault for the accident. What if I am at fault for the accident? If you find yourself at fault for an accident be sure to contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Your insurance company will provide you with an attorney if an injured party files a lawsuit. If you do not have insurance be sure to contact an attorney about representation. When in doubt, contact your local motorcycle attorney for guidance.
