Happy New Year!

The time of giving is upon us and we feel it more in our household than we have ever felt before. Delivering presents to children and families to their homes, charity events or even to hospitals, giving some extra money to people you know are really needing it or just holding hands and hugging family members and friends; the joy I get from doing these things is just indescribable. The older I get the more I really can see, it’s not about the presents you receive, it’s about the time you spend with those you care about, those you love and those that need help and caring for from time to time. You might not know it, but it could make the difference in someone’s life just to talk to them. Please too, remember our soldiers that will not be with their families this year as they protect the very freedoms we enjoy every day. I love the thought of paying it forward and the feeling I get when I do it or even witness it happening. The tears of joy and the warmth in my heart is a very welcome relief from the daily struggles of life. Our family has been blessed with two new grand babies, Branson Gracy and Anna Beth Douthit. The joys of having these new additions in our lives just mean so much this time of year. Spotlight on People Involved in the CCRF Custom Bike Build By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

he Tennessee National Guard’s C.C.R.F (Combat Casualty Relief Fund) got a huge boost of funds from a bike build and fundraiser that raised well over $20,000 to aid the soldiers and airmen of the TN National Guard who need help after returning from combat. Recently at the Fall Tellico Biker Rally, a female Tennessee soldier won the drawing for the custom CCRF built bike. How Did The Bike Come to Fruition? The conversation began among friends, Mick Fouts, Mike Denniston, owner of Thunder Valley Cycles and Dan Cane one afternoon trying to ﬁgure out a way to help boost the CCRF and do a fundraiser for the charity. After several ideas, the conversation centered on a bike build, a light bulb went off and the build was on. Now the task to get volunteers, builders, parts donations and funds to get the bike built lay ahead. It took many people to make this happen, but especially the ones personally involved in building the bike. I’m here to give them a shout out and thank them personally for all they did to make this fundraiser happen. The build/fundraiser event would culminate on the stage at the Fall 2013 Tellico Biker Rally. The build team consisted of: Mike Denniston, Dan Cane, Mick Fouts, Newual Nance of Bikes to Trikes and Doug Smith. All four owners of TBR (Mick Fouts, Mike Thompson, Wesley Rowland and Wayne Grayson) were in full bore and started with donating the frame. The engine was donated by DJ & David Brown, owners of the Knoxville Harley-Davidson dealerships. The main ingredients were in for the

making of the bike and parts began to pour in from all over the state including funds to help with things needed for the build. The next thing to ﬁgure out was the design of the bike’s custom paint job. Enter Mike Snetsinger of Gatlinburg Signs who met Mike Fouts by chance and said he would be honored to paint the bike’s tins with whatever design the group came up with. A couple months later and the tins came back with the dog tags of those TN Guardsmen who lost their lives in combat along with a military custom paint job. The Combat Casualty Relief Fund (CCRF) has been established to offer assistance to Soldiers and Airmen and their families as a means to offset ﬁnancial hardships incurred as a result of combat related casualties incurred during a deployment while serving in the Tennessee National Guard. very man and woman wants that good looking, great feeling pair of blue jeans. Most of us have our favorite pair we wear whenever they are clean. As a motorcycle rider, I have always had a problem with getting on the bike and my pants pulling under me (plumbers crack) and not feeling comfortable during the entire ride; NOT anymore! I met up with David Hall at a recent motorcycle show and saw he was vending some blue jeans. I looked them over and told him my displeasure with everyday jeans when riding. Lady Vols Coach Holly Warlick Rides to Champion a Cause

asketball season has begun and everyone associated with college basketball programs know there is no time for the weary. So true is it in the life of University of Tennessee Head Basketball Coach Holly Warlick of the Lady Vols. Practice, study ﬁlms, coaches meetings, public events, overseeing the program, recruiting, phone calls, games, etc; free time just never is around it seems, except when it comes to something close to her heart... breast cancer. Holly got with David, DJ and the Brown family at Knoxville HarleyDavidson and rode the 2013 Tennesse

part for the Champions for a Cause Ride called TN4PINK. Hundreds came out in support of breast cancer awareness and donated towards the Champions for Cause charity. Many years back, Holly along with Nikki Caldwell, former Lady Vol, assistant Lady Vol coach and now Coach for the women’s basketball team at LSU founded Champions for a Cause, a non-proﬁt charity to aide several breast cancer charities and centers. How far would you ride for $1,000,000?

Scott Ressmeyer, co-owner of Country's Barbecue or the ﬁfth year in a row, I got to be a part of and supported Scott’s Ride for Miracles, a cross-country motorcycle trip that raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). For his 50th birthday, Scott Ressmeyer of the Blue Knights Georgia V decided to ride his 1999 Harley-Davidson Wide Glide through all forty-eight continental United States, raising money and awareness of CMN at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. In 2009, he set a goal of raising $1,000,000 knowing it would take several years to achieve that goal. Last year eleven riders joined him for what has become Scott’s Ride for Miracles; 12 riders covering 9,000 miles and all forty-eight contiguous United States in 21 days. They did all this to raise funds to support children’s hospitals in and around Columbus. The 2013 ride raised $280,000, putting the total to just over $650,000. This year there were 12 riders including four Blue Knights(r) on the trip: Ressmeyer, Mike Jolley, Rick Stinson, and Ray Eckel. In addition to taking time off

work and funding all personal expenses associated with the ride including hotels, meals and gasoline, each of Scott’s Miracle Riders raises at least $2,500 to participate in the ride. This has always been about the babies compared to what some of these little ones endure every day. Their strength and perseverance are what inspire us 365 days a year but, particularly, over the twenty-one days when we are on the road. We battle for those who need a little extra help in their fight, and maybe someday, they will get to hop on a motorcycle or run in a race or write a check or organize an event that will do the same for someone else. The Miracle Riders stopped at three CMN children’s hospitals along the ride, as well as a stop at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The ride has the beautiful views and the mindless tedium that any long-distance rider is familiar with, but the true highlights are the chances to meet people and learn their stories, Stinson says. “I’ll never forget coming up on a traffic jam on a highway somewhere in Indiana. Traffic was backed up and completely stopped for as far as we could see. People were out of their cars, talking and wondering what the hold-up was,” Stinson says. “We got off the bikes and started talking to people, telling them why we were riding cross country. Parents unstrapped their kids’ bicycles from the carriers and set up pictures. I walked up to one car and said we were raising

13th Annual Boss Hoss National Rally & Mid-South Motorcycle Festival

he 2012 Boss Hoss Rally rolled into beautiful Paris Landing State Park Resort with lots of V8 powered motorcycles taking center stage. The Kentucky Lake in North West Tennessee was the back drop for one of the best run city rallies in the nation. With miles of breathtaking scenic highways around the area and the entire city of Paris opening its arms, these motorcycle riders and enthusiasts enjoyed some southern hospitality for the entire event. “Hosser’s” from around the world (9 foreign countries and 33 different States across the U.S. represented) enjoyed this international affair of horsepower. Three action packed days of entertainment, Boss Hoss demo rides, daily motorcycle events, vending, parades, musical entertainment, nightly social functions, and the drawing for a 2012 Boss Hoss Trike supporting the Shriners Hospitals for Children, the event was astounding success from the get go. Next year’s event is already in the planning stages and this would be one of those great weekend getaway rallies to attend. Make your plans early and get you motor running, head out on the highway and get to Paris without having to ride on a ship.

23rd Annual Catoosa County Toy Run

aking care of some 1,000 children in the North Georgia area at Christmas time is quite a feat in itself. With the help of hundreds of riders from as far away Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina, the large group of Georgia riders welcomed them all as they rode together for the spirit of giving and showing support for the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Ofﬁce and their efforts to raise toys for needy children. Riding down from East Tennessee was Don Porter with his wife Sherry, Bryan Bates meeting up with Pete and Abbie Stokes. “Despite the cool weather it was a great ride and excellent time and a special thanks goes out to Mr. Gerbing for making the products that kept me toasty warm all

day”, said Mr. Porter. Big thanks to the CMA for the much needed hot coffee for everyone! Many riders brought several toys for a lot of different ages. Bikes were packed with toys in saddlebags, on back racks and seats, strapped down with bungee cords and rope. Everyone seemed to have that heartfelt Christmas spirit and we at Southern Biker Magazine were proud to be able

to be a part of this great toy ride and to help someone else this glorious season.

SSG. Christopher W. Swanson Poker Run T

he first annual SSG Christopher W. Swanson Poker Run began at Knoxville Harley-Davidson and ended up at Three Jimmy’s Restaurant in Gatlinburg, TN. There were many door prizes, free food, live music and more. Over $1000 was raised on this first year event. SSG Christopher W. Swanson was just 25 years old, serving his third tour in Iraq when he was killed by sniper fire in July of 2006. If you asked him how he felt about the men he led and served with, he would tell you, “They are my life and my family right now. I would do anything for them even if it means giving my life to save theirs.” Kelly & Gary Swanson wanted to do

something to keep their son’s memory alive by starting the SSG Christopher W. Swanson Support Charity for Veterans and Their Families Inc. The charity provides aid and endowed scholarships to soldiers and their

Chuy’s A fairly new place has opened at 9235 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, TN called Chuy’s. I had to give it a try. Chuy’s serves up a blend of tex-mex with a unique flare. They offer seven signature sauces. You have got to try the creamy jalapeno for dipping the fresh chips. The crew ordered up the big burrito, a 12” tortilla stuffed with re-fried beans, cheese, fajita beef, green chile rice and covered with spicy green chile sauce. It’s a great choice for $9.29. The Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom is another favorite. Freshly-roasted, hand-pulled chicken & cheese with boom-boom sauce, green chiles, tomatillos and green onions at $7.99. My vote goes for the Elvis green chile chicken at $8.99. A large chicken breast breaded with Lay’s potato chips, deep fried and smothered in green chile sauce with cheddar cheese. It comes with green chile rice and re-fried beans. Chuy’s is open Sunday-Thursday, 11am-10pm and Friday-Saturday 11am11pm. Call 865-670-4141 if you want take out. he 33rd annual North Georgia Toy Run was an astounding success. Hundreds of riders came to participate in the annual toy drive beneﬁting many underprivileged children in North Georgia. The ride began at Kroger in Macedonia and went to the Royal Order of Moose Lodge for a great meal and then north to Jasper for total of 45 miles through North Georgia. Several law enforcement and municipalities escorted and did trafﬁc control to ensure a safe ride.

Music City Motorcycle Show

ranklin, TN's Williamson Ag Expo Park played host to the ﬁrst annual Music City Motorcycle Show. Tons of vendors were on hand to sell and show their products to the hundreds of show goers. A wide variety of products from detail sprays to leathers and clothing to motorcycle parts and custom built bikes were on hand for everyone to see and buy. Custom Bike Builder Don Gray was on hand for photographs and autographs and he had some of his creations on hand for everyone to see including the Tennessee Titan custom chopper. Live music, antique motorcycles and the new 2014 Indian Chieftan were also on site for everyone to see. You could even see Cool Springs HarleyDavidson put a new Harley together during the show from crate to showroom condition. The show was a great success and will be even larger next year. TENNESSEE

anding in Chattanooga for this huge event, Ms Mag Man and I rode down with my baby, Gracie, making her ﬁrst long distance ride on the bike. Needless to say, she enjoyed some great scenic roads we explored before we found ourselves in the midst of Rock-N-Roll and Harleys at Thunder Creek H-D. The AC/DC tribute band, Back In Black looked and sounded like the real deal. Vendors were there delving out their products including some great food from Buds Sports Bar. We got to catch up with a lot of old friends (and some new ones too) since both of us are from Chattanooga. We gave some SBMag swag to throw out to the crowd by George, Danny and the good folks at Steelhorse Law. Before it was all over, Scott Chase of KZ-106 read out the name of the winner for the beautiful new candy orange Dyna Fat Bob Thunder Creek H-D gave away. 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 1 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crust 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed Directions In a large pot, place the can of sweetened condensed milk with the label taken off, in the pot and cover with water. Cook on high until water comes to a boil, then turn on medium/high for 4 hours, only adding water to keep the can covered. Carefully open can and pour into pie shell. Cool pie in refrigerator.
