words from the publisher
Hello SBMag Readers, Lately we have been caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Events here, events there, rides for charity, etc. and we love every minute of it including meeting new people and hanging out with old friends! And we love hearing from our readers and what they are doing. You can find us on Facebook/SouthernBikerMagazine/ or at www.southernbikermagazine.com. Drop us line and show us your new motorcycle or accessory or paint job or what’s going on in your neck of the woods. My husband’s father, Bill Kemper, passed away recently and it hit the family pretty hard, including my husband. I just want everyone to hug their family members or good friends today and mean it. We lose too much time on other stuff instead of visiting family and when loved ones depart this world, we wish we had sat and talked more, hugged more, visited more. If it’s friends, you can do motorcycle stuff together as a group. Hang out and talk about old times and make new memories. Same goes for family; visit more and talk more. Keep the ones you love close and always stay in touch. The peak of summer season is coming and that means HOT weather is approaching. There are several things to do to keep your knees in the breeze and make the ride more comfortable. Stay hydrated is the first; water, Gatorade, etc.; keep those fluids and electrolytes flowing for the long ride. Next, consider buying a cool vest. We have them, love them and wear them often. Dampen them with water (I prefer soaking it in an ice cold water bath) and ride for up to four hours and stay cool. ike shows are becoming more and more prevalent and a common part of motorcycle rallies and events. People want to see the unique and customized bikes. Bike owners like to compete to see if their bike has what it takes to get the top billing. It’s a totally interactive event that brings event goers together with bike show participants. Participants love to share information about their bikes with others and learn ideas for the next project. One tip from a bike show judge is if you spend a large amount of time and money on the most awesome paint job you can imagine hoping to bring home that prized trophy, make sure the bike is clean and polished. Sure you ride your bike, not just take it to shows, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get the polishing cloths out and remove the dirt and make it shine. Also if you have a stock seat on a custom bike, spend the extra money by adding a custom seat to bring it all together. You will be glad you did.

arch is the kick-off month for the riding season; both street and dirt. The 2017 March Moto Madness came to the hills of Tennessee, bigger and better than ever. From the obstacle course, to the bike games, to trail rides, to the hill climb and back to the nightly campfire for the days recap, riders from all over the US and beyond made their way to Tellico Plains, Tennessee for a March riding adventure.
There were three divisions, each with its own hill climb course; the lighter the bike, the more difficult the route up the hill. We even had a couple ride up together and made it! I found out later the rider in charge was none other than GS Trophy American Team member Tom Asher who also held classes on riding and going up the hill.

Feeling Big & Rich at the Back Porch on the Creek K By Ms Mag Man, Kristin Gracy
noxville has needed a new kind of place where motorcycle riders and the general public can enjoy some top entertainers as they perform their hits on the big stage for a long time. Well, at Bootlegger Harley-Davidson, they have built just that… “If you build it, they will come”, as the saying goes. And so, The Back Porch on the Creek was designed, built and opened. Big & Rich came to town to sing their hit songs and perform some of their new stuff in front of hundreds of folks and the Back Porch on the Creek was chosen. The huge stage is something you would find large acts who perform in Nashla ville or Atlanta; lights everywhere and the sound system echoes out of the stage area like a dream. Big & Rich sounded HUGE and POWERFUL.
Additional VIP seating directly in front of the stage offers an idyllic location to watch the great acts perform. Some of the vendors offered up delicious food and cold beverages that kept the crowds full and thirsts quenched. My SBMag Road Crew person at the event was Cheryl Malagon. We talked to folks, took pictures, got with the important folks to set us close to the action. We were treated like VIPs and given the red carpet to take care of business and then to enjoy ourselves. We met some new friends there and hung with some old ones during the concert. It was like a good ‘ol motorcycle friends’ reunion.
If you haven’t been to Bootlegger Harley-Davidson’s Back Porch on the The perfectly sloping (towards the stage) parking lot can handle a couple Creek, find an event there you want to attend and prepare to enjoy thousand plus folks and the 1st, 2nd the day or evening. The Cannonball Run, More Than Expected By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
he Cannonball Run was exciting, eventful, and joyous in celebration plus a lot more than I was expecting. Smokin’ Joe Ball and I teamed up to do the run that benefited the Sean Summerfield Memorial Scholarship and who was a past employee of Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson. This young man left a lasting impression on everyone he met in public and riding on his Harley. While at SMH-D since he was 15 years old, he absorbed everything about Harley. He was the inspiration behind the high school bike build off project and was a key member in the development and promotion of the SMH-D Scrambler Project. The ride was in his honor and who we rode for. Over a hundred riders came to participate in this unique ride. Everyone came away happy; there were no losers in this ride. Depending on distance and place, you scored certain points and as you made your stops at these points, a photo had to taken with your entire and the sign or place in the background with your team number showing. Top point getters received prizes but I believe nearly everyone came away with at least a new t-shirt.

3rd Annual Spring Redneck Rumble By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
M
other Nature tried to put a squash on the 3rd Annual Spring Redneck Rumble, but how can you hold back so many folks and so many rednecks? Ya just can’t, and so the event took off like gang busters. The James Ward AG Center in Lebanon, Tennessee got invaded by every rat rod, every slammed, rusted, custom-made car truck, can, diesel, motorcycle and in one case, a beer hauler known to man. “Voodoo” Larry Grobe was on hand doing a videotaping for his show and brought along a SWEET sled known as Voodoo Sahara. You just have to see her in person to believe this ride! Then, you can see all the creations from the ground up that a lot of folks from around the U.S. brought to this event. Some just defy gravity and father time. Trophies were awarded in each and every division and lots of folks found some stuff they just had to buy and take home. Scooter says, “THE REDNECK RUMBLE is the south's biggest, baddest hot rod, custom car and rat rod show, swap meet and lifestyle show, plus demolition derby and live music.”

SWSR CMT/ABATE Charters were there promoting "Don't Ride Fried". There were several games with special eye glasses to test your skills while intoxicated. 1 drink, put the shaped blocks in the ball; 2 drinks, hit a dart board; 3 drinks, toss a bean bag into the hole (corn hole).
Then there was a course made of orange cones where you had to ride a 3-wheel bike around the course & put a tennis ball on top of the 3rd cone, make the u-shaped turn & stop at the stop sign.

The motorcycle show was packed with vintage rides to new custom painted creations. Trophies were awarded to the top vote getters and everyone seemed to have fun at this new venue. There was a separate area for food & nice restrooms in both sections of the building which made for a nice atmosphere for everyone. Extreme fun was had by all, especially me.
