Hope you are doing well. There are lots of autumn bike events this month that you don't want to miss. Biketoberfest turns 25 in Daytona Beach, FL and Thunder Beach turns 17 in Panama City Beach, FL. Be sure to get your bikes ready for the trip by getting it serviced at your local dealer or retail shop owner. You don't want to have a mishap on the road. Be sure to have all your documentation handy in case you get involved in any traffic situations. These items are current drivers license (make sure it hasn't expired and has a motorcycle endorsement), auto or motorcycle insurance card with current dates, vehicle registration and current tag. Make sure you have a DOT helmet if you are traveling through states that require a helmet. If your schedule allows, consider taking the lesser traveled roads and visit the smaller towns, look for restaurants and shops the locals frequent. We are typically in such a rush to hurry up and get to our destination that we miss out on so much these smaller gems have to offer. One of those small town on my favorite list is Tellico Plains, TN. This town is located at the beginning of the Cherohala Skyway which takes you into Cherokee, NC.This is a great road to travel by motorcycle. There are little stops along the way for gas and food and souvenirs to take home to loved ones. The beauty of this area is absolutely breath taking. Water falls, lake views, mountain views and rivers offer something for everyone to appreciate. Bald River Falls is well known in this area for photography and hiking down to the pools. It can be viewed from the car but it is better to hike a short way and experience it first hand. For a complete guide, visit www.Tellico.Plains.com. If you are looking to buy a house or property around this area, contact me at 865405-6989. Oct 15 is the 10th anniversary of the Tennessee National Guard Toy Run starts at TN National Guard Armory in Maryville TN and ends at Bootlegger Harley-Davidson in Knoxville TN. It will be an escorted ride with a $15 donation or an unwrapped toy to benefit the children of East TN Children's Hospital at Christmastime and for our injured TN Guardsmen and Guardswomen. Raffles and door prizes from some awesome sponsors will be awarded. The BIG NEWS is the Kid Rock Tribute Band Cowboy will be performing for this event. You will not want to miss this one!

We Remember 9/11, We Will Never Forget By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
N III Blue Knights LEMC and the Red Wolves of the Blue Daos held their annual 9/11 Remembrance Ride to honor those that lost their lives on September 11, 2001and those that continue the fight against terrorism today. Over 300 plus rider arrived at the World’s Fair Park in Knoxville TN to support and remember that tragic day 16 years ago. Prior to the ride, the ceremony began and all that were in attendance remembered and many had tears in their eyes and hearts pounding as taps was played by a lone trumpeter. Then the riders mounted their motorcycles where they carried a handlebar hanging card containing a photo of someone lost during the New York 9-11 tragedy. Escorted by many officers including KCSO’s Tango Squad, the riders enjoyed an hour-long ride to their ending destination at Bootlegger Harley-Davidson in Knoxville. A celebration of life to remember those lost took place with live music, tasty food and a 50/50 drawing took place to raise even more funds for charities. Proceeds from the event went to the Blue Knights COPSRUN, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, Blount County Rescue Squad and the Knoxville Public Safety Foundation. We remembered the Americans that died that day; we remembered the heroes who chose to stay behind, attempting to save lives and their own comrades; we remembered those soldiers who carried the fight to the enemy and lost their lives; we remembered the soldiers that still carry the Sword of Justice for us all today. We Will Never to Forget. “Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.” Winston Churchill “You can have peace, or you can have freedom. Don’t ever count on having both at once.” Robert A. Heinlein

A year later, the Volunteer Defender’s Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club kept his memory and legacy alive with a motorcycle ride and car show in his honor at Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson in Maryville. Over 700 people from all over the area and other states came to participate in his honor. “We just wanted to be able to show his kids that, we haven’t forgotten about their dad. We haven’t forgotten the officer that we lost here in the local community”, said Defender’s organizer Nathan Way.

2018 Indian Chieftain Limited Review By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
W
hile up at the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run Rally, I got a glimpse of the new 2018 Indian Chieftain Limited and just could not pass up test riding it for a review article. I signed up and the instructor said, “Let’s put it to the test.” The brilliant blue finish is just awe-inspiring as are the many new standard features and optional upgrades. After throwing my leg over, right away I noticed a good low seat height where both of my feet touch the ground with a little knee bend. It was nice to get comfortable right away. The instructor gave me the once over about controls and the 100 watt Ride Command® infotainment system (the largest, fastest, most customizable infotainment system on two wheels). After a brief go over, I touched the keyless start button, put it in gear and off we went. The curved roads he took me on were like the Cherohala Skyway near where I live so they wouldn’t be a problem. The smoothness of the gears gave an added plus as I ran through them while maxing out the Thunder Stroke® 111 which produces 119 ft-lbs of torque. Every gear had extra power I loved as I twisted the throttle. Even with the big 19–inch front wheel, there was always a feel of the road and complete control that you normally get riding a small motorcycle. The steering geometry of the Chieftain® Limited was engineered to deliver light, responsive handling, whether ridden solo with no cargo or two-up with full saddlebags. At a higher rate of speed, I raised the power windshield to block a little more wind that was coming over into my helmet. That was a nice feature! Going thru a few twisties and even a 180 degree turn, the Chieftain

Limited kept its composure with the ABS braking system and enough throttle response to keep up with the instructor. Returning to the fairgrounds I noted a lot of accessories attached this machine: Remote-Locking Hard Saddlebags, the 10-spoke 19″ contrast-cut wheel and dual front brakes, the flared front fender, the premium genuine leather seat, the wires were neatly sent inside the handlebars to give it a custom look and more. The remote locking saddlebags are a nice touch when leaving your essentials while you go eat or walk around an event. I gave the Ride Command® System a closer look to review its features. With just a swipe or a tap, you activate anything you need (even with your gloves on). The seven-inch display gives you turn-by-turn directions, plays Bluetooth® audio, checks the motorcycle status, plus a whole lot more. And with the new split-screen technology, you can get directions and see which song you want at the same time.
performance air cleaner, a boost to you audio system with saddlebag mounted 100 watt speakers and a set of mid-rise handlebars (apes) that are 4” above stock handlebars. My wife Kristin took off on the willow green/ivory Chief Vintage and fell in love with it. She too loved how light it felt and the control she had while riding it. We both gave these new 2018 Indians an A+ and maybe a future addition to the family. The Classic starts at $23,999 but for the upgrades you get for the extra $1,000 choose a Limited...trust me, you'll love it.

1st Annual Freedom Ride Honors Heroes By Jeff Burkhardt
he first annual Freedom Ride was held at Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson in Maryville, Tennessee hosted by the Red Knights TN7 Motorcycle Club who did an outstanding job of embodying the impact of September 11, 2001 had on first responders and military personnel. The ride had over 300 riders and countless spectators who showed up to attend the opening ceremonies that included The Honor Wall, opening prayer, pledge of allegiance, National Anthem and moment of silence. Full escort of the procession and static displays topped off this event demonstrating the time and efforts put forth by the Red Knights to ensure something this important was accomplished properly.
T
forget the blood spilled in the defense of our country, attempts to tear down monuments, rewrite history books and sweep under the rug things some find offensive does nothing more than erase who we are. The Freedom Ride serves as testimony to those who swear an oath to serve, protect and defend this great nation of ours. Next time ensure you attend this event to bow your head in a moment of silence, reflect upon the sacrifices and pledge to help carry the torch Freedom.
Guest speaker was Retired CPT Mike Everett from the FDNY gave a firsthand account of the sacrifices and heroisms displayed that day by our heroes and did not hesitate to run head first into known danger to save as many lives as possible. Sadly, most of them would never make it home to their families. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. The fighting spirit of the American people is always there and it shines the brightest when the world is dark. We as a nation have an inherited gene of patriotism going back to the Declaration of Independence signing when our forefathers decided to stand up against tyranny and fight at all cost for freedom. Those few who dedicate their lives to the service of our beloved communities, state and country are the best we have to offer, these Americans answer the call when many others are unwilling to step up to the challenge. I am a currently serving member the armed forces and I was on duty the day the world stopped turning. The feelings of shock, disbelief, anger then eventual sorrow that forever left a scar on my heart and soul will be forever carried with me. I believe we must never

V13ION 2017... Even Bikers Can Get the Blues
V
By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
13ION 2017 had separate rides on the same day beginning at different Harley-Davidson dealerships from across the state of Tennessee. They road separate but ended together at the same place as it did last year; at the facility for the Tellico Bike Rally in Tellico Plains, TN. Bringing awareness of PTSD and suicide prevention together with riding motorcycles and with the help of dealerships across the state and beyond (many other dealerships across the country have their own rides), makes for a great feeling of accomplishment for Chuck Lambert.
Chuck Lambert: “I lost my oldest son Chad “Chubb’s” Lambert to suicide on his 36th birthday on May 22, 2010. Chad was a tattoo artist and avid motorcyclist. After losing Chad I wanted to get involved in trying to raise awareness for suicide prevention. I attended several suicide “Out of the Darkness” walks, went to several survivors’ meetings and they were just too depressing. I didn’t want to see doves released and hear harps playing and I sure didn’t want to re-live a funeral service each time. I wanted to celebrate life and help show folks that life is worth living and that NO ONE should ever feel alone and helpless. Since Chad & I shared the love of two wheels I decided I would put something together in the motorcycle & tattoo community to help fight the epidemic, instead of mourning, we could celebrate life doing what we love… riding motorcycles.”
have in 15 years of both the OEF & OIF wars. If we want to stop the epidemic, we must get involved and “do something”, said Chuck Lambert. Many things were happening this year; the burnout pit sponsored by Thunder Creek H-D. There was a Smoky Mountain H-D Scrabble event for those ready to ride dirt and thru water and Keith Holden and his team at Thunder Creek H-D took home the V13ION 2017 trophy. Hundreds of riders attended and rode in the event with thousands of dollars being raised. If you are at the point of where you feel there is no hope, just know that there is someone out here…someone that cares…someone that will listen… someone that will help. Our prayer is that no one ever takes their own life and that there is always someone there to help them.
“Chad’s favorite number was 13 so I created V13ION in his honor to raise awareness for depression, PTSD and suicide prevention. We lose more lives to suicide than we do to homicides or auto accidents. We lose more veterans in a single year to suicide than we October 2017

CHEROKEE IS BACK! By the Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
he Cherokee Blue Ridge Run made a THUNDEROUS return to the mountains of Cherokee, NC. Event Director Mark Cresswell and his staff left nothing to chance and brought the HOUSE! Three days of top entertainers, stunt shows, rides, high quality vendors and so much more!! That’s not even mentioning the $23,000+ payout for the bike shows that took place!
“The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians had been looking to revive the town’s long tradition of holding motorcycle rallies for a while,” explains Mr. Creswell. “Cherokee is, after all, a tourist destination, with thousands of motorcycles every year coming through town… Once the tribal staff contracted with an experienced North Carolina based event company, it was just a matter of when to fit the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run in with everything else that goes on there and work with the motorcycle industry’s schedule.” Needless to say…CHEROKEE IS BACK! Headlined by Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat, the live entertainment went from opening each day until way passed closing. Other bands included Jasmine Cain, Big Engine, the Michael Allman Band, All My Rowdy Friends (Hank Jr Tribute), Hypersonna and more! For $15 you could see all these great acts in concert! Other entertainment going on all day was the Wall of Death Show and the high flying motorcycle trapeze act of Circus Una. Chris “Teach” McNeil was stunt riding with his BMW’s;

an adventure bike and his S1000RR. Then one of BMW’s area managers showed up with the new BMW 1600 Bagger that’s not be released yet. Yep, he stunted that bike like nobody’s business. Indian and Yamaha manufacturers were there to demo all of their 2018 models hitting the dealerships. The Grease & Gears Show was streaming live each day with informative building techniques from all the builders. We were glad to see our longtime friend Jay Allen as he emceed the entire event and kept everyone informed of what was going on. The bike shows were off the chain! The BikerPros, CustomBikeShows. com & Kustom Kulture Artisan Show featured the country’s top custom bikes and were on display for all three days competing for over $23,000 in prize money and a place in the World Championships. Cycle Source Magazine put on an Old School Choppers show with custom trophies. Dave and Jody Perewitz brought their highly touted Custom Paint Show and brought with them some spectacular hand painted trophy prizes. Sothern Biker Magazine stepped up for the lady riders and put on a Ladies Only Bike Show with custom laser engraved trophies by John Johnson at Etchalot Laser Designs and we gave away a cruise for two! There was also the Paint Slinger Shootout with 20 custom painted Simson helmets on display and competing for big prizes. Makoto Endo painted some outstanding motorcycles on canvas. There was (continued on page 23)

motorcycle something going on every day, all day. “This is a family-friendly event,” explains Mark. “It’s a motorcycle and music festival where we are encouraging the next generation of enthusiasts to discover today’s great sport of motorcycling.” I’ve been to bike rallies all over the country and I’ve walked around looking for things to do or see. This wasn’t one of those rallies. At Cherokee Blue Ridge Run you had to decide on what you wanted to see as things were going on all the time. If you sit down, it’s not because you’re bored; it’s because you’re tired. Do not miss next year’s event that is already in the works. It promises to be bigger and better than this inaugural event…CHEROKEE IS BACK!
