20th Leesburg Bikefest By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

etting VIP treatment from organizers at any event is always an awesome plus. And the Leesburg Partnership along with some of their staff Rachel O’Ryan and Amber Schlaefer made our groups Bikefest extra special. There to cover the event for the #1 Event Magazine in the South, our Southern Biker Road Crew took in all of the Leesburg Bikefest action. Located in downtown Leesburg, Florida, the town’s roads are blocked off and only allow motorcycle traffic. Over 300+ vendors from all over the nation

were there and they had plenty of folks to take advantage of all the merchandise they had for sale. We were there to cover the event and have fun and the largest three-day motorcycle rally didn’t disappoint. For example, 80+ concerts meant there would be lots of bands performing great music. Headliners for other events were there each night entertaining everyone; Bret Michaels, Everclear, Molly Hatchet, the Outlaws and more made for large crowds at the Leesburg stage sponsored by Gator HarleyDavidson.

Here at the Leesburg Bikefest, there was something for everyone, every day. Even the Leesburg Police Department had a fundraiser going on where you could get your picture taken in the Leesburg Police “Jail” and help support community events. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the nation and other countries were there to take in the poker runs, the biker games, the huge tattoo expo, the bikini contests and even some old school car shows. The motorcycle shows were especially awesome to attend and enter to win. I The Rat’s (continued on page 10)

The Boogie Hollar Spring Fling By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

T

here’s just something to say about a couple who can really turn it up when it comes to rallies; Herbert and Amber Clark are two such people. The Boogie Hollar Rally in the middle of West Tennessee has taken hold and hundreds of folks are enjoying a weekend long adventure on 127 private acres. Biker Bob is quoted as saying, “This place was a zoo on Saturday night. (It had) rocking bands, tons of contests, two complete afternoons of some of the best bike games of any show I’ve been to this rally has it going on!” The four days of entertainment included bands like the Rockin’ Country Nights, Brother Raines, Mighty Sideshow, Evil Twin and the Toxic Pistols. The girls of the Hollywood Knockouts straight out of Sturgis kept the action going with all girls’ oil wrestling. An in-facility poker run was a great new idea as some of the contests that went on around Amberland. The bike show, loud pipes contest, the burnout contest and motorcycle field games kept the V-Twins and few scoots running the entire time. Vendors had everything from food to jewelry to clothing for folks to shop and buy. Campers, trailers, RVs, tents and several golf carts helped folks rest and party the entire four days. The Fall Boogie Hollar is almost finished being put together so get yourselves ready for round two of the 2016 Boogie Hollar with top musical groups and tons of entertainment.

Thunder Beach ...Just Awesome! By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

T

he 2016 Spring Thunder Beach Rally was everything you would expect from a great motorcycle rally and more! The Gulf Coast has one of the best rallies on the planet, thanks in large part to the folks at Thunder Beach Productions and their professional staff. They set us up at the awesome Twin Palms Condominiums on the beach and in the center of everything. The entire event is so organized that a person CAN see all the events that are going on for the week (using the Thunder Beach pirate map), do a little exploring on their own and get some beach time too. I know, we just did it all! Thousands of motorcycles converged on Panama City Beach to enjoy 70+ degrees

14 - Southern Biker Magazine

weather, sunshine, the beach and lots of motorcycles. It was an absolute gorgeous week for Thunder Beach. The Southern Biker Road Crew members, Kristin and I were everywhere. Frank Brown Park, PCB Harley-Davidson, the Boardwalk Beach Resort, Hammerhead Fred’s, Sharky’s, the Wicked Wheel and Pier Park were loaded with people enjoying all the things that Thunder Beach rolled out for them. Great food was everywhere including the food vendors at the venues. Those people can cook! Ms Thunder Beach Bikini Contest was one of the toughest contests in some time. It was loaded with lovely ladies from around the southeast. We also hit some of our

favorite night spots at Buster’s Beer & Bait, SIK Motorcycles, Ms Newbie’s, Billy’s Oyster Bar, Capt. Anderson’s and the always outstanding All American Diner. We brought over 400 SBMag Road Crew shirts and we brought home none. Yep, lots of folks have now joined the Road Crew! The Baddest Bagger contest had some amazing motorcycles and the motorcycle LED night contest was cool to see. Lots of money went into to some of those bikes for lighting up the night. Our focus for the end of the week was highlighted by the Best of Thunder Beach Bike Show we hosted. Motorcycles from all over America came to the event. This year we included a Distance Traveled trophy which was won by John Gallagher who traveled 1,265 miles just to get here. Motorcycles with two and three wheels entered to win the coveted 14” laser engraved wooden surfboards by High Caliber Laser in Knoxville, Tennessee and receive door prizes from Southern Biker Magazine, Deer Screamer, Invicta watches, Raci Babi helmet liners and Custom Dynamics products. Judging is a tough job but we always have different judges so none of the same ideas and thoughts on what motorcycles should have or look like are the same each show. With our three judges, the scores averaged up and the results are as follows:

June 2016

Class 1st 2nd V-Twin #105 Andrew Hawkins #107 Shawn Steele Three-Wheel #201 William Conley #204 John Cawd Harley Touring #308 Chris Thomas #305 Thomas Messer Harley Cruiser #402 Gary Mossner #401 John Gallagher Harley Softail #503 Steve Mays #504 Don Huskey Harley Sportster #603 Danette Rowland #602 Carter Lally Metric Street Bike #701 Tony Simmons #703 Aaron Wolfe Metric Cruiser/Touring #804 Ron Doyle #805 John Tyson Radical Custom #910 Tim Martin #904 Chris Randolf Antique #1001 Bryan Goguen #1003 Aaron Wolfe Custom Paint #1208 Gary Mossner #1213 Fritz Disch People's Choice #903 Scott Wilson Editor's Choice #907 Eddie Foster

The People’s Choice and the Editor’s Choice received authentic six-foot custom painted surfboards by Robert Rivera Jr from the shop of Kotic Kustoms out of Woodstock, Georgia. Both winners were ecstatic but getting those surfboards back home on a motorcycle would be a challenge. “I want to thank you for an outstanding bike show. It was organized and the people loved seeing the bikes and I loved winning the big surfboard. It maked my whole week”, said Eddie Foster. The crowd was huge for the entire event and some got to compare notes and products with bike show contestants. Bob McNally with LawBike.com was on hand and giving out lots of LawBike swag and deliver the trophies with winners. The fall Thunder Beach rally (October 19th-23rd) will again have our phenomenal Championship Belts for the People’s Choice and Editor’s Choice. Who will take home the straps? You’ll have to be there to see it. Bring your best and compete with the best. It’s the only way to know if you will be the coveted Champion of the Best of Thunder Beach. And remember when going to Thunder Beach on beautiful Panama City Beach and you buy merchandise like a commemorative t-shirt, if it doesn’t have Thunder Beach on it, it’s just another bogus t-shirt you’ll end up tossing out or using it to wipe off your greasy hands while fixing stuff. It’s kinda like buying a Kymco motorcycle and putting Harley-Davidson emblems on it; it’s just not the real thing, LOL. See you in the fall!

Cold Motorcycles Were Unfrozen at the 14th Annual Spring Thaw

S

By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy

cooter at Both Barrels Productions hosts this bike show and swap meet every year as one of the several awesome events he produces. This year he changed it up a little turning this into a one day event. He relocated from the location from Murfreesboro, TN to the Nashville Fairgrounds. This I believe was a welcome change as hundreds of folks came out to shop and enter and watch the bike show. This year, the trophies were off the chain! Scooter always does a nice job with them but they sure did catch a lot of attention. Lots of prize money was handed out as well because everyone likes the green stuff. Vendors sold their items and did some old school swapping to everyone’s delight. It was a great time to get out and see some choppers, rat rods, rat bikes, custom bikes and very nice custom paint jobs. Can’t wait until the next event as I’m in the stages of building my own custom, home-built bike.

Sound Advice from Your Attorney

hen is the last time you modified your bike? Now, think about how you modified it. Did you spend a lot of money modifying it? Would you be surprised if I told you that your insurance may not cover your modification? That's right, depending on what you did to your ride, you could be left under Marcos Garza insured. Motorcycles, like cars, can be infinitely customized, but just because you purchased insurance when you bought your ride, doesn't mean your provider will cover your new chrome muffler or handlebars if you are in an accident, or someone rides off with your bike. Now, I bet you are wondering what sort of modifications affect your insurance? Well, I wish I had a one-size-fits-all answer, but unfortunately I don't. Each insurance plan is so different that some may cover your modifications and others may not. Even though it's a relatively small modification, that little change may be enough for your insurer to refuse to pay the price of the modification. That being said, your insurance should still pay what your ride is worth before modification, but maybe not a penny more.

JD Vincent Bike Info: '00 H-D 1200C, 06 H-D FXDWG Wideglide, '09 H-D FXSTC Softail Custom Occupation: Chrome Consultant at Knoxville HarleyDavidson (11 years) Interests: Customizing Harleys & Mustangs, playing competitive pool and hanging with my friends at Ridge Runners

How do you avoid this potential pitfall? Well, fortunately, that is pretty easy. When you insure your ride, ask your insurer if you need to notify them about any modifications to your bike. If they say yes, then as soon as you make that modification, or even before you make it, you may want to give your insurance company a ring and let them know about the new leather seat you just put on your ride. If they say no, it still can't hurt to give them a call and let them know about the change. Some modifications may not need to be reported to your insurance, but how can you know what needs to be reported and what doesn't without asking? The rationale behind this is that when you insure your motorcycle, the insurance company places a value on your ride. However, as soon as you make a change to your bike it changes the value. With an increase in value, it could mean that your new investment isn't protected as well as you thought. The best way to avoid a situation of under coverage is to call your insurance company and tell them about the change. Your premium may go up a little, but it's better to go up now instead of waiting until something happens and the insurance company saying they won't cover it. If you're having trouble talking with your insurance company, feel free to reach out to your neighborhood friendly motorcycle attorney for assistance.
