WORDS FROM THE PUBLISHER
‘Tis the Reason for the Season, Christmas time is approaching quickly as is the season of giving. This year, our family will continue our tradition of a great Christmas dinner and traveling to see family and friends, celebrating the birth of Christ and enjoying each other’s company. This Christmas hit us a little hard this year; we lost our dear friend and fellow Daytona Beach Southern Biker Mag representative, Liz Cunningham to cancer. We want to send thoughts and prayers to McKayla and the rest of Liz’s family. We understand this Christmas will be a hard one, but Heaven has gained a tremendous Angel. Hold the ones you love close and let them know how much you love and appreciate them. Tomorrow isn’t promised and those great memories will last a lifetime. There are folks out there less fortunate and if you’re like us, you are going on as many toy rides as you can and making lots of donations or you may be gathering coats, food, etc. and handing those out with CONTACT US SOUTHERN BIKER MAGAZINE

others. Maybe you’re looking for something to do this holiday season to be helpful. If so, get involved in the many rides, food drives, clothing drives or food deliveries to less fortunate folks. The feeling you’ll receive is the gift that Christmas is intended. What are you thankful for this year? I, for one, am grateful for my husband, my children, my family and awesome friends. I’m thankful for what we have and not what I wish we had. I’m also thankful that we live in country that is protected by our awesome military and we do not have to live in fear. I’d also like to say how thankful I am to all the officers in the Thin Blue Line. Without you all, the protection you give us goes beyond words. Thank you for being on the job while we celebrate our Lord’s birthday. It’s also the season for cold weather riding so layer up or get electric. We have heated pants, coats, gloves and socks so we can continue riding through the winter months. Stay safe out there too. We wish you nothing but the best for the rest of 2019 and a very Happy New Year to come. “Keep Your Knees In The Breeze” ©

2021 HARLEY-DAVIDSON PAN AMERICA
U N V E I L E D
U N V E I L E D By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
T
he EICMA Milan Show in Milan, Italy was attended by over a half million visitors and it had over 1,200 vendors. None more on the eye of adventure touring riders as… Harley-Davidson? That’s right; Harley-Davidson has entered the adventure touring motorcycle market with its very own model, the 2021 Pan America. First announced in Southern Biker Magazine in 2018, the Motor City Company has come out swinging in this market. Fresh off the heels of the success of Harley-Davidson Scramblers (Sportsters transformed over to adventure models) produced by private companies and individuals looking to ride their H-Ds in the woods and on the trails, Harley is jumping into a market they’ve never touched before and in a big way. The H-D Pan America will be powered by a new powerplant, a brand new 1200cc Revolution Max liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin engine. Harley used a 60-degree design for its 2001-2017 HarleyDavidson V-Rod VRSC models. Not much is know just what this machine has in it or on it, but a few other things were revealed. The reason for the design is to provide space for dual down-draft throttle bodies, which help maximize airflow and increase performance. These Revolution Max engines produce some serious power: • 1250cc: More than 145 horsepower and more than 90 ft/lbs of torque • Specially designed braking; Harley collaborated with Brembo to create a new radial four-piston caliper that “combines sharp edges and softer curves”. • Specially designed tires; Harley partnered with Michelin to create co-branded tire. For now, this is all we have on the Pan American, but the photos and the videos put it in an adventure class that few thought Harley-Davidson could ever achieve. Look for it coming late 2020 and make sure to do a test drive on it. You will be amazed at the handling this thing will possess.

BILLY LANE’S
SONS OF SPEED
By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy
VINTAGE BOARD RACING
B
oard track racing was a type of motorsport popular in the United States during the 1910s and 1920s. Competition was conducted on circular or oval race courses with surfaces composed of wooden planks. High banks would allow from some great competition and passing but the boards soon gave way to asphalt. Vintage racing seems to be catching on from the racers side of it and also, from the fans now as more and more folks want to see board racing from yester-year. It brings back great memories from the past and it really makes cool new ones today. It consists of Stock 45’s, Stock 61’s and Hot 61’s that have been “souped up” to go faster than originally intended. The real time speeds are fast for the engine sizes, but not like riding new motorcycles. These are the good ol’ days of skinny tires, single cylinder engines and the two wheel sounds our grandfathers were brought up hearing. Remember, these are the original engines made for that time of the motorcycle, just cleaned up. Daytona Biketoberfest is not only the place for concerts, vendors, bike shows and rides; it’s now also getting a new kind of lift from board racing at the New Smyrna Raceway. Billy Lane, aka Choppers Inc., has brought back what many believed to be a thing of the past; vintage racing at its best. 30+ riders and their teams vied for the top three spots to take home those one-of-a-kind trophies Billy Lane is known for. Our SBMag Road Crew reporter and photographer, David & Donna McKale took on the infield where the action was hot, fast and tremendously fun. “Had a great time at the race and the rain held off until 15 minutes after the final race. Got to meet the man himself, Billy Lane, too”, said David McKale. The action on the track was also very enjoyable to watch the racers and their teams, but make no mistake, everyone racing wants to win. After all the heats and the final races, the checkered flag showed the way for just two racers; Ebay Jake and Roxie Hanna taking the Stock 61s on a motorcycle Billy built for her. Said Jake, “(I was) feelin it! Departure Bike Works had the Curtis Venable bikes rippin’. I took two hot laps before the event started and we thought we were in for a special night and it was 1st place in every heat and main taking home both the Hot 61 and Stock 45 Championships for Team Wearcrete. I’m very grateful to be a part of this event and thankful for everyone who takes part in it one way or another.” This is racing like it used to be and Billy Lane and his staff have done a great job bringing back those days when racing was in its infantcy. Make sure you put this down on your to-do list for the 79th Daytona Bike Week. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

19th THUNDER BEACH
FALL RALLY
By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy Photos By Bill Tomerlin, Elegant Angels Photography
T
he Fall Thunder Beach Rally returned to the Gulf coast that is Panama City Beach. After a brief relocation in 2018 to Pensacola, FL due to Hurricane Michael, the Thunder Beach Fall Rally brought in thousands and thousands of riders from all of the country and beyond. The final numbers aren’t in, but I’m guessing close to 100,000 came during a 10-day period, as some folks came early and others stayed later than the scheduled rally to soak in all the sunshine and ocean as this is the last big rally for the year in the southeast. Motorcycle riders from around country come to enjoy this Emerald Coast of white sandy beaches. Thunder Beach Productions and their staff do an outstanding job putting together one of the most enjoyable motorcycle rally events in the US. Top headliners played in front of thousands at Frank Brown Park and other Official Thunder Beach Venues had other great acts as well; John Michael Montgomery, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jasmine Cain, Mustang Sally, Buck Wild, Night Train – Guns & Roses Tribute Band, Tobacco Road and so many more! At Frank Brown Park the Tim Dyson FMX Freestyle Moto-X Stunt Show kept everyone entertained with his high flying stunts aboard a motorcycle to go along with live music. There were also a ton of vendors there with everything from food to motorcycle accessories to trailers (I think I even saw a kitchen sink!) Other vendors, official merchandise and motorcycle manufacturer demo rides were set up at official Thunder Beach venues all of the beach area: PCB Harley-Davidson, the Cross Roads venue, Hammerhead Fred’s and Sharky’s. Every one of these venues were packed with people enjoying themselves. The Southern Biker Road Crew (Robbie & Freida Thomas, Gordon & Sharon Olliff, Cindy ‘Sunshine’ Williams, Amber Rowe and Kim Norred) was taking in all the sights and venues around Panama City Beach like Buster’s Beer and Baits, Dat Cajun Café, Ms Newbies, Sisters of the Sea, Outlaw BBQ and our every night destination before turning in, Hershey’s Ice Cream Parlor. Our host hotel the Legacy by the Sea Resort also hosted all the top acts and VIPs so it was cool to hang out with a few of those folks outside of work. Cartel Baggers put on the Urban Rides Bike Show on Friday. Lots of cool bikes took home top prizes. Also taking place was the Official Miss Thunder Beach Pageant where 25-30 ladies took part to win the coveted top spot as Ms Thunder Beach Fall Rally 2019. The Best of Thunder Beach Bike Show was hosted by yours truly, Southern Biker Magazine. Mother Nature came our way and hour by hour, the weather changed to eventually clear the way for the show to go on. The rain kept many from coming to participate, but 30+ came to take home a custom laser engraved 14” surfboard or one of the top prizes, full size

Championship Belts. We finished our show about 45 minutes early seeing the forecast and thunder storms approaching fast. Door prizes donated by some of our proud sponsors were quickly called out including every entrant received a Cherokee Blue Ridge Run Rally t-shirt; other prizes included t-shirts, a light system and three very nice Invicta watches. Our judging was done by Jim Trachta out of Daytona Beach, FL, Mick Johnson from Louisiana and one secret judge we always have. We continue to have different judges so none of the same ideas and thoughts on what motorcycles should look like at each show. With our three judges, the scores averaged up and the results are as shown in the chart (at right). Bob McNally from Lawbike.com presented the trophies and the Championship Belts to the People’s Champion and the Editor’s Choice. After the show, we treated our entire staff to dinner at Bricks & Barleys Pizza and then cold beverages at Buster’s Beer & Baits. The 22nd Annual Spring Rally is scheduled for April 29 – May 3, 2020. We again will be hosting Best of Thunder Beach Bike Show and the top prizes will be those coveted Championship Belts for the People’s Champion and the Editor’s Champion so get those motorcycles cleaned and ready to win! And go ahead and put on your calendar, the 20th Thunder Beach Fall Rally October 21-25, it’s sure to be one for the books. And always remember, when going to Thunder Beach and you buy merchandise, make sure it’s OFFICIAL merchandise. If it doesn’t say Thunder Beach on it, it’s just another bogus t-shirt you’ll end up tossing out or using it to wipe off your greasy hands while fixing stuff. No one would put a Honda emblem on a Harley, so make sure you buy the real thing and we’ll see you in the spring!

ith near perfect weather, folks rode in by the thousands to take on Daytona Beach and their 27th Annual Biketoberfest. The World’s Most Famous Beaches brought out warm weather and lots of sunshine for some 200,000+ folks to enjoy themselves on one of the biggest, sandy playgrounds attendees have ever seen. The SBMag Road Crew kicked off our week at Media Day Press Conference located at the Daytona International Speedway hosted the Daytona Beach & Convention Bureau. SBMag’s representative Jim Trachta handled all the duties of the week including hosting a few VIPs from out of town at his home in Daytona Beach. Riders from all over the country and the world attend this event every year. Other SBMag Road Crew members attending were Debra Herman, Terry & Cathie Mapes, Dave & Donna McKale, Jeff Stolowitz and host of others. Main Street began the week off and it was packed from A1A to the intercostals. Places were buzzing with great entertainment like Main Street Station, the Legendary Boot Hill Saloon, Dirty Harry’s, Full Moon Saloon, the Bank, Froggy’s and others. Outside of there, great places like the Iron Horse Saloon, the Beaver Bar and Saints & Sinners were packed. The Ruff Ride charity ride we sponsor was greatly attended and what a great event to save animals it was. We also attended the Sons of Speed vintage motorcycle racing put on by Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. And we always hit

Vendor sections seemed to be active 24/7 with folks buying everything want; Rossmeyer’s HarleyDavidson, Beach Street at Indian Motorcycles of Daytona, Cackleberry Campground and other places. Some of the hot eating spots in Daytona we went to included Finn’s Beachside Pub, Racing’s North Turn, the Ocean Deck, Racing’s First Turn and Bruno’s Pizzeria. Let’s not forget the awesome entertainers that we come to see here. They keep us hoping and partying until the wee hours of the morning; Warrant, Molly Hatchet, Hayfire, Jasmine Cain, Miss Intent, Big Engine and more. Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Bike Show had every kind of old school motorcycle there is. My good friend Brian Buttera took top honors as the best Pan Head. The bike shows would not be complete without the Rat’s Hole Bike Show at Indian Motorcycles of Daytona. We enjoyed the entire Biketoberfest event and looking forward to Daytona’s next event, the 79th Annual Bike Week that will be held March 6-15, 2020. Make sure to get your room and what you want to do list filled for the world’s largest Bike Week on the planet. For more information on it you can go to www. daytonachamber.com/daytonabikeweek/. STRSS

September Tellico Rooster Scooter Scramble
T
he inaugural STRSS motorcycle event is in the books and it had riders from all over vying for the points championship. This was a 4-day event that encompassed all motorcycle manufacturers with off road capabilities, including the newest form of off-roading, the Harley-Davidson Scrambler (produced by individual companies or folks wanting that off-road riding adventure while still on a Harley. A 2-day points race encompassed 160-180 mile scramble by reaching destinations. There was also field challenge events for street bikes, Dual Sport and Scramblers plus a bike shows for dual sport & scrambler motorcycles. The event was for Mental Health & Suicide Awareness. With PTSD, Depression & the Suicide Epidemic sweeping our nation, these good folks made sure attendees were educated and had some information on just such important issues.
QPR classes and information available from TN Vet 2 Vet & other organizations were on site during the event for folks to talk with. The annual 2019 VI3ION ride road in from several dealerships to the event and the event grew even larger. The hill-climb was the main attraction for the day. Saturday night consisted of music in the Tellico Mountain Saloon, good food and recounting the events activities by the huge fire pit. A great event that should be on your list to attend whether you ride or maybe have someone you’d like to bring out to enjoy some great camaraderie.

SPIDERMAN SETS NEW WORLD RECORD OF 263 MPH By The Mag Man, Randy Gracy arry McBride, otherwise know to drag Lagain racing fans as Spiderman, Has once entered unchartered territory. With
the fastest pass, quickest pass and with no cob webs in his way, the Spiderman didn’t just break the record, but shattered it with a 5.607 sec, 263mph run during the Man Cup Nationals at the Rockingham Dragway. The previous record was his too at 5.61 sec/258mph. McBride said, “We have been after this for a long time. “It’s hard to put into words how much this means to my team and I; it’s
unbelievable. We didn’t think we were going to Rockingham to set a new world record. We were just trying to win the race. The guys at the Rock did an amazing job with the track. (The bike just) took off so hard and just kept pulling. On the shutoff is when you know you are going really fast. When I activated the parachute I noticed how hard it hit. I never felt it hit that hard. We are

treading in waters where people have never been.”
After suffering his worst start to a race season in more than 20 years, McBride now heads to the biggest race of the year, The Man Cup Finals from Valdosta, Ga. Nov. 21-24 with the world’s records and the points lead. “The Nitro gods smiled on us this weekend,” McBride said. “We have a powerful motorcycle. I think we can go even quicker.”

anus Motorcycles came from a couple guys, Devin Biek and Richard Worsham, Jrelocated who met in 2017 in Elkhart, Indiana. There passion, high end mopeds. They to Goshen after the recession for these models hit and found success designing exhaust pipes that unlocked extra sound and power from the engine. The company moved into its small-town headquarters, a former drive-thru Laundromat and the shops that make its various components are not much larger. The motorcycle parts are made by individuals or small companies they came by, by word of mouth. The motor, a 229cc single-cylinder, 14hp engine, can be traced back to its roots to a Honda motor half its size from the 1970s. A noname supplier in China supplies the durable power plant. From these humble beginnings and parts partners, the duo assembled a working staff. With a total of 11 people, 150 to 200 parts turn into a single, cohesive machine. Today, the company makes three separate models; a scrambler, an early 1900s Gran Prix-style bike and a classic motorcycle all powered by the same 229cc single-cylinder motor. Last year, the company sold 160 motorcycles; by the middle of July 2019, Janus had already moved 94 bikes out the door. From small town beginnings, this new motorcycle manufacturing company has its sights set on expanding and making this product continue for years to come.

What to do if you are involved in an accident
T
he holidays are upon us. You and your family are traveling all over the place, to work, holiday parties, family members’ houses, and going out with friends shopping. With so many people on the road, the more likely the unthinkable might happen: you or a family member gets into an accident. Here are a few tips if the unthinkable happens: 1. If you are not seriously injured, turn your hazard lights on and if your vehicle is still operational, move it to a safe place, out of the flow of traffic. 2. If you’re able to, check on the others involved, even if you are not at fault. This is a very traumatic and upsetting situation, however being kind and courteous to everyone involved will go a long way in the ultimate resolution in your claim. 3. Call 911. If you or someone else is injured, even if it appears relatively minor, it is imperative that EMS checks you out. Something minor can turn serious, just nip it in the bud instead of letting it sneak up and bite you later. Even if no one is injured, its important to report the accident as most insurance companies will need the accident report to resolve your claim. Now be sure not to admit fault. The police will be sure to question everyone involved and any witnesses that might be around to objectively determine what happened and who is at fault. Once you file your claim, your insurance company will also conduct a fault evaluation. 4. Trade and gather information. Get the name of the driver and any of the passengers. Trade insurance information and copy down the license plate
number, along with the make and model of the vehicle. If there are any witnesses, get their contact information; you might need their help later to give their account of what happened. Take pictures. Pictures will help you tell your side of the story later. Also, be sure to get the name(s) and badge number(s) of the officer(s) that respond to your accident. This will help you retrieve the accident report later. 5. Report the accident to your insurance company. You don’t have to do this while waiting at the scene, but it is important to start your claim sooner rather than later. Starting your claims process will speed up your car getting fixed and put money back in your pocket for medical expenses you might incur. What about an out of state accident? Do everything above, but before you travel out-of-state familiarize yourself with the laws of that state. Each state is different and something legal in Tennessee might not be legal in another state, such as talking on your cellphone. No matter what, in state or out-of-state, remember to call your local at home attorney after the accident. Your local attorney can guide you through the turmoil of having an accident, regardless of whether you’re not at fault or at fault. If you’re out of state, don’t call an unknown attorney, call your local attorney and let him help you find someone who will look out for you and your family. Your local attorney will answer any questions you have, help guide you through the insurance process, and help you recover what your insurance company won’t get back for you.
