The weather here in the southeast has been rainy and riding time has been put on hold for a while until it clears up. Looking toward warmer weather, our first big event coming up is the 78th Annual Daytona Beach Bike Week March 8-17. We love this event along with hundreds of thousands of motorcycle riders from around the world converge on the Daytona Beach area and enjoy the World’s kick-off to the 2019 riding season. It’s a place where memories are made, friendships are renewed and making new friends is as easy as a hello. We’ll be hitting some of our favorite places like riding the Loop, riding the coast to Flagler Beach and Finns Beachside Pub, cruising down Main Street at night, going down US1 to Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona and all the saloon establishments. LiveWire Arrives

he LiveWire electric motorcycle by Harley-Davidson has finally been released and dealers are taking orders. I originally wrote about the HD Project LiveWire many years ago and the Milwaukee Company has finally brought it to the motorcycle market. It is the inaugural unit introduction into the electric motorcycle market and a lot is at stake with success or failure. At this year’s 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Harley-Davidson unveiled the production motorcycle and its specs. From the outset the HD Company wanted and needs this LiveWire motorcycle to be a hit so they’ve spared no expense to getting it right. They’ve been testing this project for a few years so most of problems that have plagued other electric motorcycle units other companies have brought forth have been worked out and then some.

The fit and finish on this LiveWire look awesome to me. It will come in two colors, orange and black. The sound will leave you stunned as it is comparable to a cross between a jet engine and a turbo charger. It’s very appropriate for this machine. Now, on to the specifics:

1. Zero to 60mph in under 3.5 seconds: Instantaneous power means the rider can immediately get 100% of its rated torque the instant the throttle is twisted, and 100% of that torque is always available. No clutch to release. No gears to run through. All you do is flick your wrist and take off. This will be appealing to novice riders as well as other riders interested in this form of transportation. The more you twist the throttle will knowingly drain the battery more than regular use, but how exactly much we don’t know yet.

3. Two ways to charge your LiveWire: You can use the onboard Level 1 charger and power cord to connect to any standard household outlet and get a full charge overnight or for a faster charge, visit any public Level 3 DC Fast Charge station.

4. H-D™ CONNECT SERVICE: With Panasonic’s® cellular LTE-enabled Telematics Control Unit, you can connect remotely through your smart phone using the latest version of the HarleyDavidson™ App. You can check bike vitals like battery charge status, see its location on a map, see the nearest charging stations and get security alerts if it’s been bumped, tampered with or moved.

Harley-Davidson has confirmed that its navigation system is turnby-turn through H-D Connect. They’ve also provided a top speed: 110 mph. More specs will be provided as the bike ends its preorder stage and heads to showroom floors. The beginning price is $27,799. It’s a bit pricey but still in range of consumers buying it. Their competition, Zero Motorcycle’s ZF14.4 is a comparable electric motorcycle for about $10,000 less, so why would a person buy this HD LiveWire? …It’s a Harley! And dealerships are located everywhere should problems arise.

At the CES in Las Vegas, Harley also showed off a pair of smaller electric concepts; an electrically powered mountain bike and an electric mini-bike. This could be the next new thing in the HD arsenal and will most definitely bring in a different clientele. From Harley’s website: “We intend for the all-new LiveWire motorcycle to be followed 2. 110 mile range on single charge: with a high voltage battery by an exciting that produces incredible acceleration. It means plenty of range and portfolio of twotorque on tap for unlocking the city. How fast and quick you ride wheeled electric will shorten the distance. Travis Pastrana Named AMA 2018 Motorcyclist of the Year

Racer, daredevil, philanthropist shined positive light on motorcycling

he American Motorcyclist Association 2018 Motorcyclist of the Year is Travis Pastrana, a professional motocross racer turned action sports daredevil and charity fundraiser. Awarded annually, the AMA Motorcyclist of the Year designation recognizes the individual or group that had the most profound impact on the world of motorcycling in the previous 12 months. For one night in July, Pastrana captured the imagination of millions worldwide as he completed three motorcycle jumps in Las Vegas. The jumps were inspired by similar attempts by legendary daredevil Evel Knievel in the late 1960s and the 1970s. “Few things or people in motorcycling today capture the fascination of today’s youth like Knievel did for me as a boy,” AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman said. “Travis Pastrana’s performance no doubt captured the attention of young people in a way that hasn’t been done since the days of Knievel.

“He drew positive attention to motorcycling through mainstream media in a manner that helps to promote motorcycling and the motorcycle lifestyle,” Dingman explained. “It is for this reason that the AMA Board of Directors has named Travis Pastrana the 2018 AMA Motorcyclist of the Year.” In addition to his high-profile Las Vegas stunts, Pastrana raised awareness of the devastation caused to Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria and helped raise money to rebuild motocross tracks, homes and a school playground. Pastrana’s career: He won his first AMA amateur national championship at the AMA Amateur Motocross Nationals in 1994. He has won five AMA amateur titles before being awarded the AMA Motocross Horizon Award in 1999.

he 2018 AMA Championship Banquet, which honors the national champions in all disciplines sanctioned by the AMA, took place recently at the Hilton Columbus/Polaris in Columbus Ohio. The AMA sanctions thousands of motorcycle and ATV races every year on dirt, sand, asphalt, ice and snow. The racers attending the banquet placed in the top three in their class and are among the elite amateur motorcycle racers in the country. AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman stated, “We are young and old, men and women, the naturally talented and the hard-working,” he said. “It’s that love of racing that we share as AMA members. All of you, the individual riders and racers who carry that AMA card proudly and know their AMA number by heart are the past, present and future of this organization.” The big winner of the night was Ryan Sipes who was recognized as the AMA Athlete of the Year for 2018. The AMA National Championship Series recognized his competition and his ability to race competitively in several disciplines in 2018. He competed on the U.S.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

ISDE World Trophy team that finished in second place at the 2018 FIM International Six Days Enduro. He also competed as a member of Team Puerto Rico at the 2018 FIM Motocross of Nations, scored a top-10 finish in an AMA Grand National Cross Country Series event and won the American Flat Track Buffalo Chip TT. “It was a busy year,” Sipes said. “I have to thank my wife for holding down the fort at home. We have three kids and that’s not easy. I had an opportunity to try something crazy and different and went for it and it went pretty good.”

The NH Motocross Horizon Award was presented to Derek Drake of San Luis Obispo, CA and the NH Road Race Horizon & Flat Track Horizon Awards were presented to Dallas Daniels of Mattoon, IL. The 2018 AMA Athlete of the Year from Grand Championship events was Daniels. Kacy Martinez received the AMA Lifetime Achievement Award for becoming the first female off-road champion in all six off-road disciplines; 2007 AMA Hare Scramble National Championship Series, 2008 & 2009 AMA West Hare Scramble Championships, 2014 & 2015 AMA Grand National Cross Country title, 2016 AMA National Enduro Championship, 2018 AMA EnduroCross National Championship. She also is a two-time recipient of the AMA Female Racer of the Year Award. Other winners were: Jordan Jarvis - AMA Female Racer of the Year, Destry Abbott - AMA Vet Racer of the Year, Caden Braswell - AMA Youth Racer of the Year, Kenneth Held AMA Sportsmen of the Year. During the evening’s banquet, the topthree finishers were recognized from seven regional championships and 24 national championships, representing all disciplines of AMA-sanctioned competition. Other award winners announced at the banquet were: AMA Motocross Organizer of the Year - Lincoln Trail Motorsports, AMA Off-Road Organizer of the Year Mid East Hare Scrambles, AMA Track Racing Organizer of the Year - Flat Out Friday, AMA ATV Organizer of the Year Racer Productions, AMA Recreational Road Riding Organizer of the Year Lebanon Valley Motorcycle Club Inc., AMA Recreational Off-Road Organizer of the Year - Wisconsin Dual Sport Riders, AMA Club of the Year - Lansing Motorcycle Club, AMA Media Award - Mark Kariya.

RACING NEWS Angelle Sampey Joins Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Team

Three-time NHRA world Champion Angelle Sampey will join the HarleyDavidson Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team for the first four rounds of the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series adding to the team of veterans Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec. This is shocking news in the racing industry and Sampey is looking forward to the challenge. Angelle is the most successful female in motorsports, period… and her addition to the team makes it the #1 team going into the 2019 season. “It’s surreal to be getting ready to race one of these Harleys after lining up against them for so many years,” said Sampey in a prior interview. “I’m so motivated to get out there and see what I can do on the same bike as Eddie and Drew.” Vance & Hines founder Terry Vance added, “I’m truly thrilled for Angelle to have this opportunity to run with us on the Harley-Davidson Street Rod. No question, Angelle has been one of the toughest riders we’ve battled with for so many seasons out on the track. I have so much respect for her and what she has accomplished in this class, and I’m really looking forward to seeing her give the boys a run for their money on the Harley.” The team now boasts 12 NHRA championships and 137 national event titles between the three riders.

AMA Supercross

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross is off and running with many new faces and exciting racing between veterans and rookies. Some big news comes in the form of location of the races this year. The AMA Supercross has several new locations from last year and one very new one, Nashville, Tennessee where the Tennessee Titans play, Nissan Stadium. Fans are already excited about this news and tickets are going like gangbusters. This will be Nashville and Tennessee’s very first hosting of this huge event. Also back on the schedule after a 20year absence is the Mile High Stadium in Denver, CO. These two changes in venues should be a welcome addition to fans in those areas that do not normally get to see a Supercross event LIVE!

Supercross Triple Crown returns for 2019: AMA Supercross has once again added a new twist to this season. The Triple Crown Championship will be inside their already AMA Monster Energy Supercross Championship; for three rounds at Anaheim II Jan. 2, Detroit Feb 23, and Houston Mar. 30. The format will change from traditional heats, an LCQ, and a main event to three shorter races with the overall winner based on Olympic-style scoring, i.e. the lowest score wins. These are more than just cash and prizes, they pay championship points! The change in format is this; Three sprints (6, 10, and 12-minute main events in the 250cc class; 8, 12, and 15-minute mains in the 450cc class) will pit top riders against each other three times instead of splitting them up in heat races.

Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne Breaks Collarbone; to Miss 4-6 Weeks of Supercross Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team Zach Osborne is out 4-6 weeks due to recuperating from surgery from injuring his collarbone in a practice run before Anaheim I. Osborne had just extended his contract with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team and was set for his inaugural year in the 450 class and to be teammates with the reigning champ Jason Anderson. “I am extremely bummed at the timing of this injury,” Osborne says. “I feel that I have reached a level of riding that I never had in my career, on a bike that I’m so very comfortable with. I know that everything happens for a reason and I’ll be back as soon as possible!” Osborne joined the 450SX class following two 250 East AMA Supercross Championships, and a 2017 AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

Bauman and Bronson Bauman to its 2019 Wrecking Crew. Additionally, former Wrecking Crew rider Brad “The Bullet” Baker returns to the team as technical advisor and rider coach. After back-to-back AFT championships in 2017 and 2018, Mees returns to the 2019 Indian Wrecking Crew with Crew Chief Kenny Tolbert, Mechanic Bubba Bently and Jimmy Wood on suspension. Dick Tibbits also returns and will aid all three Wrecking Crew riders with nutrition, fitness, and mental preparation. Team operations for Briar and Bronson will be conducted by Paul Langley and S&S, while Dave Zanotti will serve as crew chief. Michelle DiSalvo has signed on as Briar’s mechanic, while Bronson’s mechanic will be named at a later date. The 2017 Wrecking Crew swept the season standings, finishing first, second and third. The team earned Indian Motorcycle Racing’s first Manufacturer’s Championship. In 2018, Wrecking Crew riders and Indian Scout FTR750 privateers swept the top nine positions in the final standings, securing the Manufacturer’s Championship for Indian Motorcycle Racing two years in row.

Jeff Ward, a seven-time AMA Motocross champion, AMA Supermoto champion, IndyCar and NASCAR racer, Motorcycle Hall of Famer and one of the most versatile and successful competitors in the world of motorsports, will return to the racetrack to compete in American Flat Track events in 2019. Ward will compete in the AFT Singles division at all five TT races and maybe even a short track or two aboard a KTM 450 SX-F machine. AMRA Under New Management

Marty and Jayne VandenHeuvel have decided to sell their interest in the AMRA to a group of four racers that will continue the AMRA traditions of racing.

The group consists of Bert Baker, Greg Baugh, Bill Rowe and John “JT” Toth. All have raced themselves and want this American V-Twin drag racing sport to continue with a sanction dedicated to the sport they love. Unlike when the AHDRA closed its racing doors, the AMRA, its racers and loyal fans want to see this racing series continue. For 18 years, Marty and Jayne VandenHeuvel headed up one of

Lorenzo Leaves Ducati for Repsol Honda

MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo is finally free of his Ducati contract and ecstatic to be aboard his new Honda Repsol machine. The five-time world champion, after ending a tumultuous two-year spell with Ducati, got first taste of the Honda RC213V in post-season and had plenty to say as the statue of limitations on his Ducati contract silence was over. After his testing in Valencia he said that he feels safer aboard Honda’s MotoGP bike. “One of the things that impressed me most was the ability of the Repsol Honda team to react, providing what you ask for,” Lorenzo continued. “I was quite clear, Honda took note of all my indications and within a few days they had everything I needed.” Lorenzo’s teammate in Repsol Honda garage will be reigning champion Marc Marquez who has taken five of the past six MotoGP titles.

Sons of Speed Race Set for March 9th

Sons of Speed motorcycle race has set the date for Daytona Bike Week on March 9th at the New Smyrna Speedway. It’s a motorcycle race inspired by early 20th-century board-track racing.

Featuring stripped-down bikes with pre-1925 American V-Twin engines and a steeply banked racetrack, Sons of Speed hearkens back to a wide-open, full-throttle, thrilling style of motorcycle racing. Founded by veteran motorcycle builder Billy Lane of Discovery Channel’s Biker Build-Off and Monster Garage, the Sons of Speed race will feature some of the sport’s most accomplished riders, builders, and enthusiasts. The Sons of Speed race is featured on New Smyrna Speedway’s half-mile, paved, banked racetrack, with nine riders in several different heats. Winners of the heats will advance to a championship round. Each racer will sit astride identical hand-built racing chassis holding pre-1925 1000cc American V-Twin engines, and most racers will customize their machines by fabricating handlebars, exhaust, fenders, foot pegs and fuel/oil tanks.

since the U.S. territory was devastated by Hurricane Maria, the community is still very much in need. Thanks to tremendous backing from amazing partners such as CBDmd, support from the fans, the motocross industry, the motocross community and several sponsoring companies; Global Disaster Outreach, NeWave Construction, and Road to Recovery, Team Puerto Rico Team Puerto Rico put money raised to good use. During the relief mission, the team’s busy schedule ran from sunrise to sunset. On day one the team focused on getting a motocross facility back to running condition with work that includes setting up a track awning, a finish line jump stage, flagger stands on jumps, and a community ride day to break it in properly. The second and third days were focused on rebuilding homes with work that includes new concrete slab roofing, new windows and doors, repairing cracks in the floor work, beginning needed electric work, pressure washing the interior and exterior of the houses, and hiring a waste management service to haul trash out of the neighborhood. On day four the crew went to a school that is in need of care. They began to build a play feature, make necessary repairs to the school pavilion, conduct a large book donation for the school’s library, build soccer goals and donate new soccer balls, donate school supplies such as backpacks, pens and pencils, children’s t-shirts and sweatshirts, and end the day with a pizza party. On the final day of the relief mission, the team set up a Supply Distribution location at a local community center. Basic necessities such as water, diapers, hygiene products, dental products, and more will be available in a central location so the surrounding community can get what they need.

he AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame inducted six new members at the 2018 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Hilton Columbus/Polaris. The 2018 inductees are four-time AMA National Enduro Champion Terry Cunningham, stunt rider Gary Davis, flat track and road racing tuner Skip Eaken, MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden, flat track racer Clifford “Corky” Keener and pioneering motorcyclist Mary McGee. Ceremony emcees Perry King said, “Each one of us has been inspired in our lives by motorcycling, and, from that inspiration, arises our passion to race, to ride, to design, to build, to make a living in this industry with this wonderful community of people,” King said.

Terry Cunningham

Terry Cunningham is a champion off-road rider who played a significant role in the growth of off-road racing in the United States in the 1980s. His efforts anchored the success of the Husqvarna Motorcycle Company throughout the decade.

Gary Davis

Gary Davis has spent more than 30 years in show business. He performed, coordinated and directed stunts in more than 280 films, 250 television episodes and 190 commercials. His longtime contributions have showcased the thrills of motorcycling to millions through the reach of Hollywood. Some of Davis’s credits go back decades to the 1977 Evel Knievel film “Viva Knievel!” Davis’ motorcycle career began as an AMA professional dirt-track racer in 1969, but soon shifted to showmanship, however, and he began exhibition motorcycle jumping in 1971, setting aside his racing career. In 1972, he entered the Guinness World Records for clearing 21 cars, bettering Knievel’s 19-car mark. After three years of jumping and more than 300 public jumps, he began doing stunt work.

Skip Eaken

Skip Eaken was a motorcycle racing tuner who began building competitive and reliable flat track racers in the 1970s. He notched his first Grand National victory in 1983 with Ted Boody riding an Eaken-prepped Harley-Davidson. Eaken is best known as the mechanic who worked on AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bubba Shobert’s factory Honda motorcycles in the 1980s, when Shobert won three AMA Grand National Championships, collecting an AMA Superbike title and 28 Grand National flat track wins. He passed away in 2012.

Nicky Hayden

Known as “The Kentucky Kid,” Nicky Hayden was a force on the American motorcycle racing scene before taking his talent to the world stage, ultimately winning motorcycle racing’s grandest championship, the FIM MotoGP title in 2006. Hayden raced flat track and road raced and with the full support of his family, especially parents Rose and Earl Hayden, Nicky Hayden’s story was a classic tale of an American grassroots racer accelerating through the ranks. In 1997, he capped his amateur career with the firstever AMA Horizon Award, presented for his triumphs in flat track. The award signified that Hayden had proven himself to be the amateur racer with the brightest potential for continued success in the pro ranks. He turned pro at the age of 16. As a professional, Hayden competed in the AMA Grand National Championship, the pro flat track series, as well as in AMA Pro Road Racing. He signed with American Honda’s support team, Erion Honda, in 1999 to race the AMA 600 Supersport class, winning the 600cc championship that same year. Honda moved Hayden to the factory AMA Superbike team in 2000, and in 2002 he captured the AMA Superbike Championship. At age 21, Hayden became the youngest champion

in the history of AMA Superbike racing. Hayden then moved to the Repsol Honda MotoGP effort for 2003, earning his first MotoGP win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., in 2005. He won there again in 2006 while on his way to winning the MotoGP World Championship. Tragically, Hayden was hit by a car while training on a bicycle in Italy on May 17, 2017. He succumbed to his injuries five days later, on May 22.

Clifford “Corky” Keener

Clifford “Corky” Keener was a professional flat track racer during the 1970s. Known by the nickname “Mr. Dirt,” he worked as an electrician for General Motors Corp. while he was getting his racing career started eventually leading him to become a factory Harley-Davidson rider. Keener won five AMA Grand National races during his career. He raced during a talent-filled era that often had him banging bars with the likes of AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers Kenny Roberts and Jay Springsteen. Keener raced through the 1980 season.

Mary McGee

Mary McGee was among the first women to race motorcycles in motocross and road racing events in the United States. McGee was introduced to auto racing by her husband, Don, in the 1950s. In 1957, she learned to ride motorcycles on a 200cc Triumph Tiger Cub she bought from a friend and later took up motorcycle road racing to try to improve her car racing skills. Switching to dirt riding in 1963, McGee started her off-road career by riding a 1962 250cc Honda Scrambler in an AMA District 37 enduro. She began riding Baja events in 1967 and, in 1975, rode solo in the Baja 500. Also during the 1970s, McGee worked for Motorcyclist magazine and joined editors Jody Nichols, Brad Zimmerman and Rich Cox for a 24-hour road race in Las Vegas, in which the team changed riders every hour on a 650cc Suzuki. In more recent years, she has returned to competing in select vintage races, while speaking out in support of women racers and recreational riders getting started in motorcycling.

HOT BIKE Magazine Ceases Publication

ith the change in motorcycle culture, age of ownership, having the funds to purchase a motorcycle and motorcycle riders in general, the industry as a whole must change. Motorcycle manufacturers have to look in different, new directions to accommodate a changing consumer climate, as do motorcycle publications. Hot Bike Magazine, which began in 1994, one of the more popular V-Twin motorcycle magazines, ceased operationsas of January 10th as Bonnier AB sent out a press release. Issue #6 that is on the stands now is the last one that will be printed. Bonnier Corporation, Hot Bike’s parent company announced it will condense its V-Twin coverage into its other magazine products; Cycle World, Motorcyclist, and Motorcycle Cruiser. They also said that their Hot Bike Tour will continue but at this writing there is no information to confirm that. Parent company Bonnier AB in 2018 also ceased production of Street Chopper and Baggers, Dirt Rider, Sport Rider, ATV Rider, and UTV Driver magazines. They have also reduced their Motorcyclist magazine from twelve issues annually to six, and Cycle World from twelve to four. “We can’t thank Editor-in-Chief Jordan Mastagni and his team enough for making a great magazine,” said Bonnier Motorcycle Group Editorial Director Mark Hoyer. “But as media and ad spending

Unfortunately, two significant reductions in ad revenue from an OEM and large aftermarket company hurt the print brand.” On social media, former Hot Bike’s editor-in-chief of 10 years, Jeff Holt stated, “With mixed emotions I post about the demise of @hotbikemag. I was handed this brand pretty much on life support (10 years ago). Most thought it was already dead and not worth saving. I spent countless hours and years breathing life back into it only to get let go in return for all my hard work. To think of all the great people I worked with, met and forged life-long relationships on this book making motorcycle history together is something I always cherish and will never forget. Now it is all for naught due to corporate greed and mismanagement. Sure it will live online with re-hashed content and press releases just to juice unknowing advertisers out of money, but with no real editor or any kind of substance. All I can really say is I told all you at Bonnier Corp that it wouldn’t last a year without me. And it sure as hell didn’t. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.”

With another motorcycle media outlet gone, motorcycle dealers, shops and retailers will have a smaller sample to choose from to get their message out to the consumers. The largest target market for motorcycles still loves getting their motorcycle news with print, but those that add on-line presence and change content that is interesting to its new readers while still writing informative articles for its base readers are the ones that will continue to operate. We at Southern Biker Magazine noted this trend several years ago and began to accommodate other businesses for advertising as well as adding additional content that readers want and expanded our circulation amount and our distribution area into eight states with the same publication. We also are on-line and produce other products in order to make it happen. Our readership and interest have increased, so we will continue to bring the best news from the motorcycle industry, VIP interviews, reviews, event happenings, photos and much more as we continue to change with the motorcycle industry landscape.

Triumph Rocket Spotted

he British motorcycle maker, Triumph, let out a glimpse of their new Triumph Rocket at a Triumph dealer conference this past October. They flashed up a concept rendition of the machine on the big screen and then an individual rider rode the prototype across the stage in front of it. Several illustrations have been published, but this was the first actual Rocket III prototype seen. Since then, the buzz has been about the Rocket III and some spy photos have been taken of a rider(s) testing what appears to be the new model. This leads us to believe that this new Rocket III will indeed be in the pipeline for production in 2019.

Extra noticeable items include a single-sided swingarm encasing a driveshaft and sprung via a modern monoshock rather than the traditional twin shocks and dual-sided arm of the original. There is a suggestion that the new Rocket III could be part of Triumph’s planned “TFC” (Triumph Factory Custom) range, which will focus on making relatively low-volume or limited-edition bikes using higher-spec components than the mainstream range. The firm intends to announce plans for that lineup, which will be spearheaded by the upcoming Thruxton R TFC, on January 24, when we might also discover more about the future of the Rocket III.

The bike is newly designed but still has that massive in-line triple but it appears to be larger than its processor, the 2.3L engine. The new engine is believed to be a 2.5L with power in excess of 160bhp. Photos show to have a list of new tech on it including the full color TFT dash from the Scrambler 1200, so it’s likely it will have the same Google maps and GoPro integration. *Sources: MCN and Motorcycle.com

Advice from Your Attorney “I don’t need an attorney for my accident…” nfortunately, many of us have been in an accident and likely dealt with an insurance company or two, but did insurance U really make you whole? Would the outcome have been different if you hired an attorney? Could an attorney secure a better recovery?

When there is only property damage with no injuries, you can normally handle this with the guidance of your insurance agent. Insurance companies keep records of the current values of cars, motorcycles, boats, etc. (similar to Kelly Blue Book) and they know what the present value of your ride is. You may have paid more for your bike, but like many other items, the value depreciates overtime and often times the insurance company is only going to pay you what the current value is. An attorney may be able to negotiate a higher return for your ride, but you have to remember the attorney is going to get a cut of the recovered value or charge you an hourly rate. If you feel the insurance company is offering you too little, it is always the best practice to reach out to your local motorcycle attorney and see if anything can be done to get more. When negotiating your property damage settlement don’t forget to include items such as your helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. Your personal affects that were also damaged in the wreck, if any, are all a part of your property damage claim. When you are hurt in addition to your bike being damaged, it is always best to work with your local motorcycle lawyer. Attorneys are well suited to negotiate with insurance companies who in general do not have an incentive to settle your case for much over your medical bills, if not less than your medical expenses. In addition, they have the knowledge and experience to go up against the insurance company which is something the average person does not have. The agent will act like your friend but they are not. An experienced attorney understands the ins and outs of the insurance industry and normally can negotiate a higher settlement from an insurance company. Generally, the greater the injuries the greater your settlement is. If an attorney is unable to negotiate a higher settlement, the attorney has the option to file a lawsuit against the person who caused the accident. An attorney will also be able to advise you about issue of comparative fault (whether you are partially at fault for the accident) or to determine who was at fault for the accident. What if I am at fault for the accident? If you find yourself at-fault for an accident be sure to contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Your insurance company will provide you with an attorney if an injured party files a lawsuit. If you do not have insurance be sure to contact an attorney about representation. When in doubt, contact your local motorcycle attorney for guidance.
